《parties // billie eilish》Chapter 73: Lies

Kevin and Billie just solved their beef, I guess because they are sitting on the couch, talking like before.
''Is everything okay now?'' Julia asks them and they nod.
''Yeah. I understand why Kevin doesn't want to call the police, I was just stupid,'' Billie says.
After that, they keep looking at Travis note, having some conversation about the lake. Julia is sitting on the floor and I'm sitting in the armchair next to her.
''We can call the police when they leave,'' Julia whispers, making me bite my lip while nodding. It feels so fucking bad to lie, but we will not find Travis without calling the police.
Julia orders some pizza and we spend the night just talking about where our best friend could be. I realise more and more that it's impossible to find him, so Julia's idea seems okay, even though I hate lying to the ones I love the most in the world. Some people think that lying could be good sometimes, but I think that I disagree. If you lie someone to help them, you have still betrayed them in a way.
After a while, our best friends leave and me and Julia immediately make our way upstairs to call the police. I sit down on her bed, grabbing a pillow before resting my head on it.
''Are you sure about this?'' I ask as Julia deals the number.
''Yeah. There's no other way,'' she mumbles.
''It feels so fucking bad to lie,'' I say, making her pout as she looks at me.
''I know, but we need to find Travis,'' she explains, making me nod slowly.
''Fine,'' I say, making her smile slightly. What if Billie gets to know about this? I try not to think about that right now as Julia raises the phone to her ear.

Julia explains everything to the woman on the phone as I feel a pain in my stomach. This feels so wrong, but why? Julia said that we need to do this and why would she lie? As she talks about Travis sadness, I almost break down.
After a while, she puts her phone down and I look at her intensly, wondering what the police said.
''He is reported missing now. They will begin with the search immediately. They want to talk to all of us early tomorrow,'' Julia explains, making me take a deep breath before nodding.
"But then Billie and Kevin will realise that we called them!" I say, biting my lip.
"We don't have to say that it was us! Let's just say that the police realised that he was missing and wanted to talk to his friends," she says immediately.
''Are you sure about this?'' I ask, furrowing my eyebrows. Julia puts a hand on my shoulder, squeezing it softly while pouting.
''I know that it sucks not to tell them, but they wouldn't let us contact the police and we would never find him," she says, keeping her hand on my shoulder.
"You're right," I sigh.
The flight made me really tired and the day has been long overall, so I just lay down in Julia's bed without bothering to pull the blanket over my body. After a while, I fall asleep from the exhaustion.
I open my eyes but close them again when I realise that it's really early in the morning. The sun is desperately trying to slip through the purple curtain and I groan before turning around. I discover Julia sleeping next to me, her mouth slightly open.
''We gotta go to the police station,'' I mumble, shaking her shoulders softly. Her eyes shoot open in fear but when she realises that im the one who woke her up, she smiles at me sligthly.

''I didn't think that I would be the one to wake up after you,'' she says with a chuckle, making me smile a bit.
I'm really tired today and I'm not in the mood for talking to cops so I simply put on a gray hoodie and a pair of shorts before walking downstairs to get something to eat. It really feels like I'm in Julia's family because well, I've lived here for the passed months and I start to feel comfortable being in her house.
After eating some breakfast, we get into Julia's car before driving towards the police station. Julia haven't told her parents about the disapperance, but they will probably get to know about it soon because of our upcoming conversation with the police.
''This is a bad idea,'' I mumble, leaning against the car window as I can feel how Julia turns around, looking at me.
''Why? Is it bad that we're going to find Travis?'' She snaps.
''That's not what I meant and you know it,'' I say. ''You know that we won't be able to participate in the search, right? We're not adults, so they can't risk us finding anything disturbing.''
Julia bites her bottom lip as I utter the words, turning quiet.
''I didn't think about that,'' she finally mumbles, tapping her fingers against the steering wheel.
''Of course you didn't,'' I snap. ''Let's just hope that they can find him because if they can't, it's our fault for calling the police.''
I feel how the anger builds up inside me, but I know that nothing will get better jsut because I'm mad at Julia for doing this. I try to take as many deep breaths as I can, knowing that we will be forced to lie to Kevin and Billie when we arrive at the station.
After a while, Julia pulls over by the police station where Billie is sitting on a bench, looking at her phone. Her hair is in a messy bun and she's wearing all black clothes, porbably representing her current state. As soon as Julia turns off the car, she exits the veichle before walking over to Billie.
''How did they know?'' Billie asks as soon as she sees us, creating a lump in my stomach.
''I have no idea, did you guys call the cops?'' Julia asks as I keep quiet.
''No, why would we?'' Billie says, walking towards me before hugging me, kissing me on the head quickly before giving Julia a hug as well.
It doesn't take long before Kevin arrives as well, talking about how insane it is that the police know that Travis is missing while I keep quiet. No one seems to care about me not talking and that's good, because I just can't handle lying to my friends.
