《✓ I Chose Dauntless ↠ Eric Coulter | Divergent | #Wattys2015》Chapter 3

Things in Dauntless just got harder and harder by the minute and all because of one person.

Peter.

He made all the girls uneasy with his inappropriate behavior but of course we are too weak to actually stand up for ourselves. For some reason, he chose to bother me the most.

"Hello," he drawled as I walked into the training area. I was usually one of the first people in there but not today.

I ignored Peter as I began punching one of the dummies. I thought he would give up but I was mistaken, like usual. He spun me around and pushed me against the dummy, pressing his lips roughly against mine. I tried squirming away but I couldn't. He tried to force entrance into my mouth but I kept it firmly closed. He bit my lip before getting his way.

Suddenly, Peter was ripped away from me.

"Don't you ever do that to a girl, do you hear me?" Peter gave a smug grin.

"So I can do it to a guy then?" Eric socked him in the face, a trickle of blood oozing out of his nose. I gave an inner cheer.

"Are you okay?" he asked. I nodded, pulling down my shirt and redoing my pony tail. He reached out and ran his thumb over my lip.

"You're bleeding," he said softly. I just shrugged.

"I'll just say I ate too fast, no problem." He facepalmed himself.

"That makes you sound weak." I gestured to myself.

"You do realize that what just happened is because I'm weak, right?" I said lightly. He sighed in annoyance.

"Get ready. The other initiates will be here soon." As if on cue, Hemy and the ebony girl, Christina, walked in.

"Okay, initiates, this is the matches today."

Hemy v. Christina

Al v. Peter

Conner v. Will

Molly v. Gabriela

I broke out into a sweat. Molly was evil and loved to try and kill you. Yeah, that was the point of the fighting but she was a damn she-devil.

I watched Hemy fight Christina first. Since they both were friends, they didn't do cheap shots but didn't go easy on each other. Neither wanted to become factionless. In the end, Hemy won. I smiled at her since cheering was frowned on.

Next was Peter and Al. Of course Peter won since Al was just not doing well. He hasn't been since day one. Not saying that I've been either but he was below me on the rankings.

Will won against Conner and finally it was my turn.

"Ready to die, whore?" I raised my hand and looked towards Eric. He gave me a bewildered look.

"Yes, Nose?"

I pointed at Molly. "I would like to point out that Molly uses cheap shots all the time but doesn't get docked for them. Can I too?" Eric sighed, a smile tugging at the edge of his lips.

"You may, Nose." I chuckled and walked up onto the platform. We did the cliche' thing, circling each other with our fists raised.

"Come at me bro," I said. A chuckle came from Hemy. Molly wasn't going to win. End of story. The bitch needed to die.

I stampeded towards her then dove left, knocking her down with my right arm. She squirmed under me but I didn't let up. I flipped her over, not loosening my hold, grabbing her pony tail and repeatedly smashing her face into the ground.

"You -smash- little -smash- bitch -smash- will -smash- die -smash-" she said, her mouth becoming full of blood. I chuckled at her. She can't get me now, can she?

"Enough," Eric called, walking up behind me.

"Winner is...Gabriela!" I stood up, giving a curious look towards Eric. He didn't call me nose.

The next morning was visitor's day for the initiates. I didn't think anyone would visit me but I was wrong.

"Daddy!" I yelled, running towards him. He embraced me into a hug then pulled away, looking me up and down.

"You're in one piece, it looks like," he said, a smile in his eyes. I pulled him down the hallway, going into the mess hall.

"Ah, I remember this," he said, looking around. I took it in too even though I had been living here. I noticed a depressed looking Eric taking sip after sip of alcohol. I couldn't dwell on him, though. My dad was here.

"Mom didn't want to come, did she?" I asked, getting the topic out of the way.

"Actually, she did but she wasn't feeling well." I gave a disbelieving look. "It's not a cover up, Gab. You're mom has morning sickness." I thought about it for a minute then it clicked. Mom was pregnant.

"Wait, I'm going to have a sister or brother?" He nodded, smiling.

"We didn't want to tell you that we were in case it made you want to stay in Erudite. And we're glad. It seems like you are getting along fine." I nodded. He brushed a piece of my brown hair behind my ear, then kissed me on the forehead.

"Erudite has a meeting in an hour. I've stayed too long already, I'm afraid." Tears smarted at my eyes. My dad was leaving.

"I love you," he said, taking me into his arms. "I want you to get into Dauntless then find a husband that you love but not just anyone. Have kids. I know you'll miss us but it's your life now. Live it." I nodded, a tear escaping my eye. He kissed me on my forehead again before walking down the hallway. I turned over to Eric who was watching me.

"Want some?" he finally asked, raising the vodka. I nodded, sitting across from him. He handed me the bottle, not even pouring a shot. I took a large gulp, my eyes burning, but I managed to keep it down. And that's when things got fuzzy.
