《》Chapter 14: Chase

Everyone stood still, frozen to the spot. Alice zoomed over to Carlisle and Genesis, the rest following suit. "I didn't see them. They were passing through when they heard us." Alice rushed out. "Who's them?" Genesis asked worriedly. "Nomads. Bella, Genesis, Let's go." Edward ushered them to his car. Carlisle shook his head, "It's too late."
Rosalie stood in front of Genesis, messing with her hair, Edward doing the same with Bella. "I shouldn't have brought you here, I'm so sorry." He told Bella. The group huddled together protectively around the two humans. Genesis grabbed Bella's hand and shielded her behind her, Edward and Rosalie shielding them both. Carlisle stood in front of them, showing himself as the leader of the coven. Esme and Chandler stood on either side of him.
Three vampires made themselves present in front of Carlisle, the supposed leader standing in the middle of the other two. He held the ball in his hand, twirling it around as he examined the group. "I believe this belongs to you." He stated in an accent. He threw it at Carlisle, who caught I with ease. "Thank you." He replied.
"I am Laurent. This is James and Victoria. We heard you playing and thought we would check it out. It's been many years since we have come across others." Laurent explained. "We maintain a permanent residence here. I'm afraid your hunting habits have been causing quite a disturbance." Carlisle said, obviously trying to seem normal.
"Ah, my apologies. We were just leaving." Laurent apologized. "We lead the humans east, you should be safe." Victoria commented. Carlisle pulled a fake smile and nodded, "Excellent." James was still examining them when he caught Genesis's eyes. She looked into his and held his gaze, trying to be as intimidating yet peaceful as possible. His stature seemed to soften involuntarily and he looked down, now seeming uninterested in the family.
"Could you use three more players?" Laurent offered. Carlisle pulled yet another fake smile, "Of course. Three of us were just leaving." He looked back at Genesis and she understood that she would see him later. Edward began leading them away when the wind blew, the human girls scents hitting the three.

Instantly, the Cullen's were in front of the girls defensively. Genesis shielded Bella once again, standing her ground as the vampires glared at them. "The girls are with us." Carlisle seethed. The once peaceful man was ready to pounce. Laurent stood and backed away. "I can see that the game is over. We shall take our leave." He stated. Victoria stepped back as James stared hungrily at Genesis. She was a fighter, and he liked that.
Edward could read his thoughts and could have thrown up if he was able to. The vile things running through the mans head about Genesis made him wonder if Victoria was even his mate. "James," Laurent warned. James winked at Genesis and licked his lips before running off with his two companions.
That little stunt did not go unnoticed by Carlisle, and Edward knew it. Edward looked back over at Carlisle to see his eyes black. He knew what he was about to do, and he wasn't going to let him do it alone. "Carlisle don't-" Carlisle started to make a dash for the three vampires. He was going to kill James for even so much as looking at his mate. She was not some piece of meat he could bite into and screw around with, and he was going to teach him that brutally.
Thankfully the boys could catch up with him and tackle him down. They didn't expect him to fight against them, but they couldn't blame him. Esme sped to them with Genesis on her back, planning to get him to calm down. Genesis hopped down and moved closer to them. She could tell that Carlisle was just about to be free from the four boys grips, his strength unstoppable because of his rage.
"Carlisle," The girl said softly, "It's going to be okay, I promise." She said. Carlisle stopped struggling and closed his eyes, calming himself down. The bus let him go and he stood to his feet. Genesis instantly pulled him into a hug, calming him down more. "I'm sorry." He whispered. "It's okay." She assured him.
"Carlisle. We need to get them somewhere safe. I read James's mind. He's going to hunt them." Edward stated. Carlisle was once again infuriated. "Hey, hey! We're going to be okay, okay? Calm down." Genesis soothed him. "We need to go to Seattle."

Bella and Genesis had argued with Edward about going to get the tracker off Charlie's case and Bella had an idea. "We need to leave him like mom did." She said. Genesis looked at her like she was crazy. "Are you insane?" She exclaimed. Bella looked back at her, "What Else are we supposed to do?" She asked. "Follow my lead."
Genesis and Bella made their way inside the house. "Hey dad!" Genesis smiled. "Hey girls, how was baseball?" He asked. "Great! Alice and Rosalie invited us to stay the night though, so we came back to get some clothes." She explained. Charlie nodded, "Have fun, but not too much fun." He made a face. "Ew dad, gross." Bella said.
The two girls went upstairs and packed a bag. "See? No need to break his heart." Genesis said. The girls made their way downstairs and out the door, "Bye dad!" They said before getting in Bella's truck. Bella drove anxiously down the road, wondering where Edward had went. Just then, a bang was heard on Bella's side, making her swerve and Genesis scream.
Edward opened the door, "Why don't you let me drive?" He offered. Bella nodded and scooted over to Genesis. Then, another bang was heard from the back of the truck. The girls screamed and Genesis pulled Bella to her protectively. Edward was quick to calm the girls, "It's okay. It's just Emmett." He assured them.
Bella stayed in Genesis's arms, her protective embrace soothing her. Genesis looked out to Emmett and they looked at each other. Genesis nodded her head in appreciation. Emmett gave her a sympathetic smile. Genesis and the Cullen boys were oddly close. Well, she was already oddly close to all of them, but all of their bonds were special.
The boys all collectively saw her as their sister they must protect and the girls saw her as the sister they must be there for. They believed she didn't deserve all the worlds heartache. Everyone who knows Genesis would agree that she's too good for this mess of a world. The Cullen's had actually thought she was a literal angel sent from God because he took pity on them. If you asked them today, they'd still believe it.
And here she was, in danger and still thinking of others around her. She'd take a bullet for any of them, and that terrified everyone around her to the core. One wrong confrontation, and she would be gone, because she would protect them, even though they're literally indestructible.
They were finally at the Cullen house and headed inside, Genesis leading the way. Upon entering, Genesis sees Laurent descend down the stairs. Genesis moved herself protectively in front of Bella and the two vampire boys, shielding them from the man. "Genesis, it's okay. He came to warn us about James." Carlisle assured her. She immediately relaxed, trusting Carlisle's judgement.
"I apologize for James's behavior. I have become tired of his games." Laurent said. "He is very persistent. I haven't seen someone like him in all my three hundred years." He sighed. "And the woman, Victoria, don't underestimate her." He warned. "Thank you, Laurent." Carlisle said. Laurent nodded at the five and left. Genesis huffed and hugged Carlisle. He held her tightly, squeezing his eyes shut.
"Carlisle. We have to get them out of here." Esme said. Carlisle sighed and grabbed Genesis's hand, leading her down to the garage where everyone was getting ready for their next move. "I can take Bella and your could take Genesis as the others searched for him." Edward suggested. Genesis shook her head. "He'd know you two wouldn't leave us. He'd follow us." She sighed.
Carlisle nodded his head, "It's true. He'd pick up on our scent and come after us." He said. "We could take them into Seattle while you guys lead him away." Alice suggested. Carlisle nodded, not seeing any other choice. "How would we lead him away?" Emmett asked. Genesis had an idea. She slipped off her jacket and hat, handing it to Rosalie. "Will you wear these?" She asked her. Rosalie nodded, understanding her plan.
"Good idea."

Child of the Ancients: An Apocalypse LitRPG
It all started in the middle of Dante's nap. He wanted to sleep his life away, but the system denied his request. Instead, it began to transform the Earth, integrating it into the multiverse by granting everyone stats and skills. He was talented, or so the system thought. And that meant he needed to be challenged. After being sent into a deadly cavern, Dante strives for the future he's always desired. But when he learns about the secrets hidden within him, he's shaken to his very core. He wishes for the nightmare to end until something goes wrong. [The world will end in one year.] Instead of everyone receiving a relatively gentle tutorial, the people of Earth are deemed redundant. Dante makes it his goal to save as many people as he can before the world ends, but with billions of lives at stake, he might have to turn into a monster before he can become a hero. Planned updates (2500+ words): M/W/F. 12pm AEST/ 9am EST. M-F during Writeathon. [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Author's Note: All system apocalypse novels seem to jump straight over the apocalypse itself, which I find very sad. I don't want this to turn into a typical fantasy novel in about ten chapters. Instead, I hope to explore the destruction of society and how things would look if superpowers suddenly appeared in the real world. Before the real apocalypse happens, of course. There will be base building, and likely romance once things settle down. Also dragons, because they are awesome :)

One to change the light bulb and one to observe how it symbolizes an incandescent beacon of subjectivity in a netherworld of cosmic nothingness," he said. The room was silent still, until you laughed. His eyes looked up at yours in confusion. "Wouldn't they sit in the dark and hope that the bulb decided to light again?
