《Pantala High School》Cricket 3

Cricket started her afternoon with confidence. She had received a text from Katydid asking her to babysit Bumblebee for the evening, as Cricket's grandmother, Cadelle, would not be available to do so. She would make a simple meal and make sure Bumblebee didn't throw herself out the window. Very simple. Nothing complicated. Super easy.
Katydid picked Cricket up and dropped her off at home. She would be back at nine. Not late at all. Cricket would probably still be up doing homework when she got home.
Entering the house, Bumblebee just got up from a nap. So far so good. Cricket put her in the living room with a few toys and started thinking about supper.
She knew how to make pasta, and there was some sauce in the fridge. Pasta it is!
Trying to keep one eye on Bumblebee, Cricket started boiling the water. Bumblebee started fussing and Cricket gave her a piece of dried mango. Everything was going fine.
Twenty minutes go by and dinner is ready, Cricket eats a bowl before trying to feed Bumblebee. It went downhill from there.
"Bumblebee! Just eat your peas!" Cricket said, exasperated. Bumblebee just flicked them onto the floor. "I'm not giving you any mango until you eat your peas." Cricket said seriously.
"Mango!" The toddler laughed and clapped her hands.
"After peas!" Cricket encouraged, holding the spoon out to her. Bumblebee made hilariously disgusted face squinted at Cricket.
An idea found it's way into her head and Cricket calmly walked over to lean on the counter. She picked up the bag of dried mango and pretended to eat it.
"Mango!" Bumblebee cried in outrage.
"Yep! Mango is so good! I'm eating some because I have already eaten! Mmmm!" Cricket emphasized. "Better eat your peas quickly, before I eat all the mango..."
Bumblebee ate those peas so fast, Cricket almost missed it. After which, she happily handed her a piece and Bumblebee ate it almost as quickly.
The rest of the evening went smoothly, and Cricket went to bed laughing at how well her trick had worked.

The Last Marshal
Weird West Fantasy Noir Once the Republic Marshals brought order to the chaotic lands along the Frontier, facing dangers both human and supernatural with ancient wisdom and a six-gun —but that was a long time ago. Destroyed by conspiracy and betrayal, all that remains of that secretive order is one nameless man on a trek though the West seeking revenge on the woman he blames for the Marshals' fall and his disgrace. When a visitor from our world joins him on his journey, they together must confront the horrors of a strange land, the mysteries of the past and the real meaning of their quest for justice. The world of Tellus is what 19th Century Earth would have looked like if the stories of Poe, Ambrose Bierce, Lovecraft and William Hope Hodgeson were real. History in this world moves slower. The old faiths persist and civilization never conquered the dark corners of the map, at least not without being inextricably changed. Technology and culture takes a little longer to evolve in this land, as people here tend to spend more time pursuing their elaborate revenge plots or trying to avoid being the next sacrifice to the Outer Gods rather than advancing science or statecraft. Imagine Cormac McCarthy by way of Edgar Rice Burroughs, though a little less testosterone-drenched than that description would imply. Three caveats: First, there are deep mysteries here, including how such a world came to be and who controls it. Second, this world is not wholly unconnected from our own. There is a historical point of divergence, but in the distant past. To paraphrase Twain: history in this world is not a repeat of our own, but it does often rhyme. And finally, this is not a setting that lends itself to happy endings.
