《Grimm Season 6 Episode 14: In the Nick of Time》Chapter Ten

Trubel parked her motorcycle in the underground lot and made her way to the elevator with an armful of Grimm books. When the doors opened and the men guarding the gate greeted her, she nodded and walked straight to her room. She would leave the books there.

She left her room and twisted her way down various hallways until she reached the door of the room that she was instructed to go to. It had once been a conference room, but Trubel wasn't sure if it still was. She knocked on the door and heard a British voice respond, "Come in." It didn't sound familiar.

Trubel walked into the room and saw two men sitting opposite of each other at one end of a long table. They both looked up as she entered the room. The man with a scruffy face and piercing blue eyes walked over to greet Trubel. He had lighter hair than the man who had been sitting across from him. Trubel suspected that it had once been blonde but has since faded to a light brown. The man held out his hand and said in the same voice that had asked Trubel to come in, "Hello, Theresa Rubel. My name is Ian Harmon. I am the new leader of the Portland Compound." In other words, he was Meisner's replacement.

Trubel knew the day that Meisner was forgotten was coming, but any day still felt too soon. Trubel tried not to think about it.

"Call me Trubel," she said bluntly, shaking Ian's hand.

"And you can call me Ian," he responded. "This is Alexander," he added casually, motioning to a man with dark, slightly curly hair and sharp features. Alexander stood up and walked over to shake Trubel's hand. "It's nice to finally meet you, Trubel," he said.

Finally? Had he been waiting long?

"I'm surprised I haven't heard more about you," Alexander added. He had a British accent like Ian did.

"Why?" Trubel asked. Her eyes narrowed with confusion.

"You're friends with Burkhardt, yes?" Alexander questioned. "And his friends?"

Trubel looked suspiciously back and forth between Alexander and Ian. She didn't like it when people asked her about her friends. It made her feel protective of them. She remembered how she intentionally hadn't told Chavez that Nick was a Grimm.

"What did you want to talk to me about?" Trubel asked, ignoring Alexander's question.

"Have a seat," Ian said. Alexander walked around the table and sat where he had been sitting before. Ian pulled out a chair at the head of the table for Trubel to sit before moving to sit in the chair he had been sitting in earlier. Trubel sat down and waited for them to answer her question.

"I was just talking to Alexander about what our next moves should be for Hadrian's Wall and the Wesen Council."

"But the Wesen Council is wiped out," Trubel said, confused.

"Not entirely," Alexander said. "I am the single remaining member. I was the only one to survive the attack from Black Claw."

"And now that Black Claw is mostly extinct, Alexander and I have been working together to decide what our goals for the future should be," Ian said.

"Then, why do you need me here?" Trubel asked.

"We heard about some of your achievements. Your work for HW has been impressive," Alexander said.

"And we know your friends," Ian added.

"You know them, too?" Trubel asked Ian. Who were these people?

Ian, though he was usually talented and keeping his emotionless and business-like mask in place, let a handful of mixed emotions contort his face. "I have met Nick, Monroe, and Rosalee. I used to be a member of the Resistance and often worked with Rosalee's brother Freddie. Rosalee and I also used to be close."

Trubel wondered how close, but knew that Ian wouldn't get into detail.

"The point is," Ian continued. "With who you are, what you are, who you know, and what you've accomplished, we were wondering what your goals for the future were, and if they would have anything to do with ours."

"You want to know if I still want to work for HW?" Trubel guessed.

"To some extent," Alexander admitted. "But we are also curious about what you would be willing to do for us in the future, now that stopping Wesen violence isn't as imperative as it used to be."

Trubel needed to get a few things straight before answering the question. "Wait a minute," she said. "What is it that HW's going to be doing and how is that different from what the Wesen Council will be doing."

"That's what we are currently working out. Ian and I believe that both will be geared towards stopping Wesen terrorism and both groups will collaborate frequently and share resources. However, many Wesen would probably prefer having their matters dealt with by Wesen only as they likely believe that Kehrseite and Grimms cannot understand Wesen enough to make reasonable or fair decisions on their behalf." Alexander explained.

"That makes sense," Trubel admitted. "I wouldn't want normal people making decisions that affected me if I were Wesen."

"Exactly," Alexander said. "So cases violating most of the Wesen laws and rules established by the council will be dealt with by the council alone. We will have jurisdiction over purely Wesen matters such as the abolishment of blood purity organizations, or the protection of Wesen culture and history."

"Like the mummy case that Nick told me about," Trubel said.

"Yes," Alexander agreed.

"But will the Wesen Council still send out hit men to kill violators of Wesen law?" Trubel asked.

"You basically worked as a hitman for HW," Ian pointed out. "So why does it matter?"

"The Council put a hit on Nick," Trubel said angrily. They had sent a Manticore, a lion-scorpion Wesen, to kill him for getting too involved in the Council's business.

"For the record, I tried to stop that, but no one was particularly interested in what I had to say. However, I am going to rebuild the Council, and it will be better than it ever was before. It will support Wesen-Grimm relationships and will work harder at providing information to those that want it," Alexander promised.

"But, back to the point," Ian interrupted. "We want to know if you would still be willing to go on worldwide assignments for us."

"Are you asking everyone this question?" Trubel asked. She was trying to figure out if Ian and Alexander had talked to everyone or if they were only concerned about her for some strange reason.

"Yes," Ian admitted, "But we have a special interest in you."

"Why?" Trubel asked. Whatever these people were getting at, they should just spit it out.

"We want you specifically to help us with the development of a new branch of HW," Ian said.

"Which is...?" Trubel asked.

"A Grimm branch," Ian said. "If our fight with Black Claw has shown us anything, it's that the world needs more tolerance. We want to start a Grimm training program and we want you to be one of the leaders."

"You would be a perfect candidate," Alexander continued. "You and Burkhardt are not only tolerant of Wesen, but even befriend and understand them like no Grimm of the past ever has before."

"Nick should be getting all the credit. He's the one that told me what being a Grimm meant," Trubel said. She was starting to feel a little sentimental so she took a deep breath and waited for the others to start talking again.

"So you know what methods work to convince a Grimm that we aren't monsters. We want to teach the Grimms of the world to be friends and protectors rather than executioners," Ian explained.

"I will be teaching Grimms to be more open minded towards Wesen?" Trubel asked.

"And you would be teaching them fighting skills and everything else that comes with being a Grimm," Ian said. "Any Grimm initiate of HW would have to go through this training. We don't want any judgment here from any side."

"But what about Wesen?" Trubel asked. "From my experience, they aren't too crazy about Grimms. They'll start fights even if the Grimms don't, and I'm not training any Grimm to be a sitting duck," Trubel said protectively.

"At HW there will be Kehrseite, Wesen, and Grimm branches that will all receive specific training. And, as I mentioned, the Wesen Council will also work towards changing the Wesen opinion of Grimms," Alexander said.

"What about what happened with me? I didn't know I was a Grimm until Nick found me. Is HW going to do anything about that?" Trubel asked.

"Actually, we haven't thought of that," Ian admitted. "Which is another reason why we need perspective from someone like you. What do you want to see happening?"

"Black Claw had agents in hospitals, child protective services, police precincts, and everything else. I think HW should do the same thing and should have the education that would allow them to identify Grimms and Wesen. For example, in the foster parent system, Grimms and Wesen could be identified and placed in appropriate houses with parents that would know what to do for them," Trubel explained. She wished that that kind of life had been available to her when she was growing up. She could have dodged the mental institutions, the jail time, and her life on the street.

"I like it," Ian approved. "But you still haven't told us what your plans are."

Trubel had a big decision to make. Would she keep running around, trying to save people and risk her life? Would she keep coming and going to wherever she ended up? Part of Trubel wanted security and another part of her thought that was selfish. "Do you need me to travel around the world to new locations? Do you need me for any assignments that would require me to risk my life?" she asked.

"There are fewer and fewer assignments like that every day. We need you to lead the Grimm branch and you can do that at any location. In fact, you could probably remain in a single location for most of the time and collaborate with other sections of HW from a distance," Ian offered. "You can do whatever you please."

"Then, I want to stay in Portland," Trubel said quickly, without even thinking about it. "I'll work for you, but I want to do it here."

"We will make the necessary arrangements," Ian said happily. He stood up, and so did Trubel. He shook her hand and thanked her.

Trubel nodded and shook Alexander's hand - he stood up, too. "Say hello to Nick and his friends for me," Alexander said.

"And for me," Ian added.

"Got it," Trubel said. She walked out the door. She was going to head back to her room but decided against it. Suddenly, she wasn't very tired anymore. She made the choice to wander the compound. It was put back together again after the attack form Black Claw, but it still wasn't very populated. The only people that were there were either asleep or in meetings.

Trubel walked through the quiet halls and unintentionally found herself in the control room where Meisner had died. She hated that room and hadn't bothered to take a look at it since finding Meisner's body. Now she was there, looking at the room and noting how everything looked exactly the same. If she didn't know what happened, she never would have guessed that so much violence, and betrayal, and death had taken place there. For some reason that she couldn't determine, she walked into the room. Her fingers trailed along the desks as she moved past them. Trubel stopped when she reached a shiny metal object that was built into the wall. She eyed it for a moment until she finally realized what it was.

In memory of the brave men and women that gave their lives for the salvation and reconstruction of a better world.

Martin Meisner

Katrina Chavez...

The list went on and on and on. Trubel recognized all of the names and wondered if she was ever going to let herself grieve.

Not now.

She walked back to her room and decided to get some sleep. She would read some of the Grimm books tomorrow.
