You called me on the phone last night

to tell me you weren't coming.

The wedding was canceled. 

The doctors appointments are online.

There isn't a reason anymore.

I told you it would be all right.

I wasn't going in the fall.

It was dangerous to travel.

And I didn't want to risk anyone's health.

Spending Thanksgiving and Christmas alone would be fine.

I'm a picky eater anyway.

And Christmas hasn't felt the same in years.

We'll go into another year,

separately and further apart.

I won't say anything

because I don't want to be a burden.

But the loneliness is creeping in.

And I want to be your reason.
