《Consequences Of Actions》Chapter 10: Call me Chris

I sat on the comfortable passenger seat of Harrington's car, staring outside as he drove to the destination he had in mind. I didn't ask him where. I simply didn't have the energy to ask or argue with him. So I decided to trust him.
I had held his warm jacket tighter around me, unconsciously inhaling deeper to smell more of his good-smelling expensive cologne. He was fast to wrap it around me again when I got out of the club's backdoor, clad in a t-shirt, jeans, and a thin jacket on top.
To say I was shocked by his new behavior toward me was an underestimate. Maybe he was not that heartless after all. But what had shocked me more was how much I felt safe around this new Harrington. The moment he hugged me to his chest it was as if a great wave of relief had washed over me and I could finally breathe better after long as if everything was going to be fine.
"We are here." said Harrington softly as he pulled over and parked the car. I looked outside and my mouth gaped at the sight of the beautiful building of the hotel in front of me. And not any hotel. The name Harrington Hotel was shining brightly at top of the sliding front doors.
I looked at Harrington beside me confused. "Here is for my brother." he explained with a hint of pride laced with his tone. "The other day, he was mentioning that they were hiring waiters for the hotel's restaurant. I'm sure based on your work experience he will hire you. Besides, we can use a bit of favoritism here."
He gave me a lopsided smile before winking and getting out of the car. We began to walk toward the sliding front doors.
"Here." I gently put my hand on his arm, trying to gain his attention to give back his jacket. I watched him confused as he jumped slightly at my touch and looked at my hand on his arm shocked.
I blushed a bit and pulled away my hand before clearing my throat and he looked up into my eyes. "Thank you for the jacket." I said with a weak smile.
He gulped and took his jacket slowly and nodded. I nodded back and began to walk ahead of him, but this time, he grabbed my arm gently and stopped me.
"Eleanor." he called and I looked up at him. God, I loved the way my name was rolling off of his tongue. It sounded ten times more beautiful.
"Don't be nervous." he said while staring into my eyes with his beautiful jade eyes. "My brother is a good man. Nowhere like the asshole who I am"
I watched satisfied as the nervousness in her eyes faded away and her shoulders relaxed visibly. "Let's go now." I said and walked toward the front doors once she nodded her head. I hardly controlled myself to not take her small hand in mine again.
I didn't know what the fuck was wrong with me. I just know that I had this deep desire to hold her hand after the time I held her hands while kneeling in front of her. It just felt too right to have her small hand in mine. It just fitted well with mine.
I watched from the corner of my eyes that Eleanor began to look around her in awe when we walked past the sliding doors and into the shiny and crowded lobby. People and workers were walking around, carrying suitcases or stuff or waiting for or getting out of the elevators.

This time I didn't hold myself back and gently grabbed Eleanor's hand and tugged her toward a corridor at the end of the hall. "This way." I said softly. "There is a private elevator for staff and managers at the end of that corridor."
She nodded and held my hand a bit tighter as if she was afraid of losing me. Something inside of me purred in delight as she scooted closer to my side while looking around a bit lost. I grabbed her hand tighter, trying to fill her with a bit of comfort as we walked into the corridor.
No one stopped us. The staff knew who I was and would greet or nod to me as we passed them. Soon we were inside the elevator, going up. I watched as Eleanor looked at the mirror and her eyes widened a bit and her cheeks tinted pink, suddenly realizing that we were still holding hands and our shoulders were practically touching.
I wanted to grunt loudly in annoyance as she let go of my hand quickly and discreetly made distance between us. I couldn't help this fucking feeling. I wanted her close to me so I could make sure she was not nervous or sad.
But of course, I didn't say a word for fear of making the situation more awkward than it already was. For Fuck's sake, just two hours ago I was her worst nightmare. I couldn't act like a protective caveman around her suddenly.
We waited for a minute in awkward silence and both sighed in relief once the doors opened. I gestured for her to go out first, like the gentleman I was. She mumbled a thank you and walked out, trying to hide her face behind the curtain of her hair. But I had already seen her blush deepen and couldn't help but smirk slightly.
We walked toward Jax's office at the end of the corridor. His secretary wasn't at his desk so without interruption, we stood behind the mahogany door that had a golden palette with 'manager' written on it.
I knocked and soon Jax's deep voice came, letting us in. I turned the knob and opened the door. "Hey, Jax!" I called and put a hand on Eleanor's back and gently pushed her inside.
Jax looked up from his laptop and his eyebrows shot up as he took in the sight in front of him. "Hey, man." he said and then looked at Eleanor and smiled at her although his eyes were confused. "Hello, missy. Are you not the girl from earlier this morning in the hospital?"
"Um, yes," she answered shyly and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, and smiled slightly. "Hello, Mr. Harrington. I'm Eleanor James."
"No need for formality, sweetie." answered Jax and pointed to the sofas in front of his desk, completely ignoring the glare I threw him at hearing the pet name he gave Eleanor immediately.
"Call me, Jax." he said as Eleanor and I sat on the opposite sofas. "What can I do for you two?" he finally looked at me and frowned. "Shouldn't you be at home resting? Mom was worried."
"Sorry. It's my fault." said Eleanor quickly and glanced at me with guilty eyes, assessing my body as if she could see my wounds through layers of clothing.
I rolled my eyes. "It's not your fault, Eleanor." I said and then looked at Jax. "And I'm fine. I will go home and will rest when we are done here."

"And what is your business here?" asked Jax and clasped his hands in front of him on the desk.
"Are you still searching for waiters for the restaurant?" I asked, eager to know the answer.
"Well, yes." answered Jax. "As much as I know. We still need four people."
"Brilliant." I beamed happily at Eleanor, making her eyes glimmering in hope. I turned to Jax again. "Hire Eleanor for the night shift."
"Whoa, whoa, hold the horses, little guy." answered Jax and turned his head to Eleanor. "Are you even 18? No offenses, but we hire those who have experience."
"I have experience." Said Eleanor and sat at the edge of her seat excitedly. "I have worked in a diner for almost five months now. I was working there for one shift every day and two shifts at the weekends. I know what to do and I'm 18."
"That's great." said Jax with raised eyebrows. "May I ask which diner and why you are leaving there?"
I cringed at hearing the question and saw Eleanor's mood dampen as well while she looked down at her hands in her lap, biting her lip nervously. "The manager fired me." she answered quietly, but Jax heard her and frowned. "I'm currently working in a supermarket and somewhere else."
"I was the reason she was fired." I gulped as Jax's intense eyes snapped to me and his frown deepened. "You can be sure that had nothing to do with her skills as a waiter."
"Chris Harrington." said Jax sternly with a bit of anger laced with his tone. "What the hell have you done this time?"
"I know I fucked up, okay?" I glared back at him but my eyes softened when they landed back on Eleanor who still had her head down. I looked back at Jax with determined eyes. "And I'm trying to right my wrong. Now tell us, will you hire her? At least give her a chance to prove herself."
Jax sighed and leaned on his chair. He looked at Eleanor with concern in his eyes. "No offenses, but why are you working this hard?" he asked softly. I knew his brotherly and soft part had come out because of her. "You say you are working in two places now. How about school? Do you even have time for it?"
Eleanor's head shot up at hearing Jax's question. But before she can answer, I beat her up to it. "That's why you should give her the night shift." I stated and looked at Eleanor who was watching me wide-eyed as I continued, not breaking the eye contact. "Because she has school in the morning."
Eleanor took a deep breath before turning to Jax. "I need the money for my family." she explained softly.
"Eleanor you don't need to explain." I grunted not happy that she was exposing her life story to someone who was considered a stranger to her. I knew how protective she was of her life story based on the fact that no one knew about her life at school.
"He should know." she reasoned. "It's his right. He is going to hire a teenager."
She then turned to Jax again. "As you saw this morning, my mom is in hospital." she began again. "I need money for my siblings and myself and also hospital expenses. That is why I work hard. I can work morning shifts as well if the night shift is not available. Also, I would like to work extra on weekends if that's possible."
Jax was silent for a moment before he spoke. "You are hired." he said and Eleanor's eyes lit up with happiness. "You can work in night shift that starts from 4 in the afternoon and ends at 11. Your salary will be 3000$ each month and if you like, you can work extra at weekends in morning shifts. You will have insurance and a few other bonuses for staff as well. Is that fine with you?"
"Yes, Yes it's great." answered Eleanor happily. "Thank you so much."
I felt a surge of happiness inside of me at the sight of a beautiful smile appearing on her lips and seeing her eyes finally glinting with happiness and excitement. God, they were mesmerizing and I was under some sort of spell as I stared at the sparks in her ocean blue eyes.
"Great." said Jax happily. "I will call one of Hr staff to prepare your contract. Although it will be experimental for one month and if your manager will be satisfied with you, it will be for a year. You can sign it tomorrow after school and you can also start tomorrow night."
"Tell them to prepare two contracts. Both the same." I said suddenly and they both looked at me confused. But my eyes were fixed on Eleanor. "I will work here as well and I would like my income to transfer into Eleanor's account."
Her eyes widened like saucers and she shook her head profusely. "No!" she squeaked quickly. "You can't do this. You don't need this job or the money. I don't want you to waste your time because of me."
"Actually, I can, darling." I answered firmly, ignoring Jax who was staring at me with his jaw practically on the ground and his eyes as wide as possible. "I'm 18 too and can work just like you."
"Okay, work if you like." she said. "But there is no way I would accept your salary and also there is no need for you to work as hard as me. You don't need to work at the weekends. What about your football practices then?"
I scratched the back of my head and opened my mouth to answer her, but closed it when I didn't find any responses. What about football in fact? I hadn't thought about it.
"There is absolutely no problem." answered Jax, startling both of us. "He can start working later on the days he has football practice. We will decrease his salary a bit."
I glared at the satisfied face of the fucker. I knew there was a party going on in his mind. His rebel brother was finally doing something good. There was nowhere in hell he would lose this chance that I was willingly wanting to work. Especially now that he knew I wanted to help Eleanor to redeem myself.
"He can work, but he can't give me his salary." said Eleanor sternly. "You can't let him do this."
"Actually he can, sweetie." smirked Jax and glanced at me. "He should just write your bank account in the contract. It's his choice and we can't do anything."
Eleanor looked at me daringly. But I could see how much she was fighting with herself. I could see she wanted to decline working here just to decline my offer. But she needed the job as well.
"Eleanor." I said softly but stared into her eyes sternly. "Let me do this. Please. Let me make it up to you for all the hell I caused for you."
Thankfully, Jax only frowned but didn't open his mouth and looked back at Eleanor who was biting her bottom lip and was staring directly at me.
"Okay." she finally said defeated. "But only until my mother's surgery. And I will pay you back all of the money you will give me."
"Good," I grinned, not planning to accept the money back ever. I looked at Jax again who had a faint smile on his lips. "Make the contracts two, but make mine a bit flexible for my football practices."
"You've got yourself a deal, guys." he chirped happily.
"Thank you." answered Eleanor gratefully. "It's an honor to work here."
"It's our honor to have a hardworking girl like you here, Eleanor." responded Jax softly. But his soft smile turned to a devilish smirk when he turned to me. "And it's an honor to be able to kick my dear brother's ass as his boss. See, dear bro? As I always would say, I'm the boss."
"Why don't you throw yourself down from the fucking window?" I snapped annoyed but then I smirked wickedly too and leaned back casually. "It won't be bad for you by the way, will it? You will have dear beautiful Emmy nursing your ass in the hospital."
Jax not faltering a bit leaned back on his leather chair too and returned my smirk. "Why so?" he said wickedly. "When I can beat you up and throw you on the hospital bed instead and act like a brilliant big brother who is so worried for his little whiny brother and make Emmy like me more?"
I frowned and opened my mouth to snap at him but the most beautiful sound I have ever heard stopped me and made me turn sharply to Eleanor. I watched in awe as she giggled with her eyes closed and a hand on her mouth, trying to muffle the melodic sound that was coming out of her mouth.
I was fucking ready to step on my ego and let Jax make fun of me over and over if it meant for her to laugh that beautifully. I marveled at her finally carefree face and couldn't help but smile widely when she opened her sparkling eyes and glanced at me, still having that beautiful smile on. I felt drowned in her beautiful eyes immediately.
"Whipped." mumbled Jax and my head snapped to him. The asshole should just ruin the perfect moment for me. He covered his smug smirk with a cough and turned to Eleanor. "You both look tired and I have some work to finish before going home. I will see you tomorrow then."
Eleanor getting the hint, stood up quickly. "Thank you, Jax." she said softly. "For giving me this chance."
"Your welcome, sweetie." he answered and then looked at me with an odd glint in his eyes. "Believe me, I'm benefiting more from this contract."
Rolling my eyes at him I stood up as well, although the look of pride in his eyes had made me proud of myself as well. "Thank you, man." I said as we walked toward the door. "See you tomorrow."
Eleanor and I walked toward the elevator. This time the silence was not awkward at all as we went down. Soon we were out of the hotel's front doors. I stopped in my tracks when I realized Eleanor was not following me toward the car.
I frowned and turned to her. "Thank you, Harrington." she said softly with a beautiful smile. "For helping me. And sorry for keeping you up all this time when you needed to rest. I will see you tomorrow."
I walked to her and grabbed her hand and began to drag her to my car. "There is nowhere in hell I let you go home alone at this time of night." I said sternly.
"But I don't want to bother you anymore." She said as she wiggled her hand a bit, making me hiss in pain and halt as pain shoot up from my injured arm.
Her eyes immediately widened and she quickly but gently placed both of her hands on my arm a bit down from my left hand that I had put on my wound.
"Oh my God," she said panicked. "I'm terribly sorry. Did I hurt you? God, I'm sorry."
"It's okay." I said reassuringly as I stared into her panicked eyes, not liking to see the happiness leaving her eyes and at the same time, feeling oddly satisfied to see her worried for me. "It just stings a bit. Now get in the car and please don't argue with me. See? I'm hurt."
I opened the door for her and gestured for her to get in.
"Thank you." she mumbled shyly and sat in the car.
"Your welcome, darling." I said and smirked as I saw her cheeks turn to a rosy color immediately after hearing the endearment. I couldn't help it. It was so satisfying to see I had such an effect on her.
She gave me the address and soon we were parking in front of her house. It was a small two-story house in a not-rich neighborhood. But it at least seemed safe. I felt good when I see all houses looked reasonable with trimmed grass in their yards. It looked like a good neighborhood.
"Thank you, Harrington." she said while unbuckling her seatbelt. "I really don't know what to say or do to show my gratitude."
She gave me a soft smile that melt my insides. God, She looked like an angel.
"Please don't embarrass me anymore." I groaned and scratched the back of my head. "This is the least I could have done for you."
"Harrington." she said softly. "You are forgiven. What you did tonight for me, was more than enough for me to forgive you. Thank you."
"That was not even close to enough." I mumbled and looked at her. "I'm really sorry for what I did again. The pain and the hell you suffered cannot be compensated by anything I do."
"I told you. You're forgiven." she said. "You saved me."
I smiled at her. I was shocked by the number of smiles I did in one day. I usually would smirk not smile. But today and with her, I had smiled so many times in a matter of two hours.
"I will come and pick you up tomorrow morning." I said and she frowned a bit. "You will come back to school tomorrow. I'm not good at any of the subjects, but I think you can use your friends to help you to catch up."
I watched another beautiful smile grace her lips and she looked down while smiling. Her eyes were too happy that made me happy too.
"Thank you." she thanked me again for the hundredth time and looked up at me. "But I had to go to the supermarket I'm working to resign. I will come to school myself."
"So I will come around 7 and will pick you up." I said determinedly. "First we will go to your job to resign. Then we will go to school together." I quickly held a hand up to stop her from arguing. "And Please don't argue with me. I won't change my mind and my arm will sting."
She adorably giggled at my pouted lips. God, why hadn't I seen this goddess before? And fucking look at me. Pouting like a fucking brat to make her giggle. Shit! What Chase would say?
"I hope I will be able to make it up to you one day." She said softly and opened the door to get out.
"Don't embarrass me more," I said, and then suddenly an idea popped into my mind. "Though, there is one thing you can do that will make up for everything I have done."
