I had been visiting Effy regularly at the mental hospital. She was doing a bit better, but I was still a little worried about her. Meanwhile, Cook and I were better than ever. And my mum liked him, which made it so much better. We'd been together for a month so far.
"Mum, when you were with dad, were you at your happiest in your life?" I said to her.
"Well yes, of course. Your father and I met after university, and I had never felt happier because I was with someone who loved me. And then we had Sid and you,"
"Then why did you leave us? Without even saying goodbye?" I said as I recalled the memory. Sid was grounded for nearly failing his coursework but still managed to sneak out, and I was blasting my headphones to drown out my parents fighting that whole night. The next morning, she was gone when Sid and I came home from school, my dad absolutely shattered.
"I don't know, Bri. But it wasn't your fault. I needed some time off. But I came back, I'm here now," she said, pushing my hair out of my face.
"Yea, after Dad kicked the bucket."
"Brianna Louise, I love you so much. I promise I won't leave you ever again. And I know you were upset that I moved on so quickly, but I wasn't thinking straight. I still love your father, always will, but sometimes people grow apart," she said as the door opened, "Oh, hello James."
"Hi there, Liz, how are you today?" he said. Mum told him to call her Liz, so it wasn't rude or unusual at all.
"I'm good. Um, I'll leave you two alone. I need to tidy up upstairs," she said, walking upstairs.

"She alright?"
"Yea, we just had a personal family talk but other than that, she's ok," I said. Suddenly, he smirked at me and pressed his lips to mine. I kissed back immediately as he pushed me onto the couch.
I lifted his gray shirt off his body and threw it on the floor as he did the same to mine. Our tongues met as we continued to make out. I could never get enough of his kisses, they were so passionate. We were so busy that we didn't hear footsteps coming in through the main hallway.
"Bri?" Shit. I forgot, JJ was coming over. Cook was still on top of me, so we broke away from the kiss and looked up. JJ was staring down at us and had another girl next to him. We broke away and I frantically put my shirt back on.
"Sorry about that, JJ. Almost forgot you were coming over. Um, who's this?" I said, standing up and straightening my hair out.
"This is my girlfriend, Lara," JJ said.
"Nice to meet you! I'm Brianna, but you can call me Bri," I said, smiling at her, earning a smile in return.
"And this is your boyfriend, I take it? Cook, right?" Lara said, pointing at a still shirtless Cook.
"Yup, this is my boyfriend," I said, wrapping my arm around him, "I'm sure JJ's told you all about us already. Um, I was just about to make some bagels, anyone wants some?"
Everyone nodded, "Cook, want to help me out in the kitchen?"
He put his shirt on and followed me into the kitchen. While I was cutting the bagels in half, Cook wrapped his arms around my waist from behind and lightly kissed my neck, making me giggle.

"Don't do that, you're distracting me," I said in a slightly playful tone, "Lara seems nice, how did they meet again?"
"At the store where they work, he seems to have fulfilled his goal of having a sexual relationship with a woman."
"Yeah. Well, good for JJ!" I said as I put the bagels in the toaster. When the bagels were ready, JJ and Lara came in. We enjoyed ourselves, and I grew to like Lara a lot. She seemed like a nice girl for JJ.
After they left and my mum had gone out, we went up to my bed, clothes came off until we were out of breath and naked.
"You are so beautiful," he said as he kissed down my stomach, "And I love you."
"I love you too," I said, bringing his face up to mine.

All you can rely on are mundane medical procedures to help you get back on your feet. And those don't come cheap! What kind of dungeoneering community springs up in an atmosphere where a simple cut can mean lethal infection? How do dungeon crawlers find workarounds when conventional combat proves too dangerous? A veteran warrior who senses his time is near puts to pen a final record, a shocking tell-all about his adventuring career...
