《Two Wastes of Space- J.C》Effy's Downfall
Advertisement
Katie, Thomas, JJ, and I left Effy's house after she invited us to a party, but I hadn't seen her at all. We went back to my house that night.
"What's going on with her? Do you think everything's ok?" I said as I grabbed some snacks from the fridge and pantry.
They all just shrugged...
Katie and I were getting dressed for the street festival. The makeup and outfits were very excessive, but Katie wanted me to do it, and I had nothing to do that day, so I agreed. Everything was going well. It was pretty fun up there, watching everyone dance and scream.
All of a sudden, I could've sworn I heard someone calling mine and Katie's name.
"Katie! Bri!" I looked down and saw Effy. She looked completely distraught.
Katie noticed too because she extended her hand out, "Climb on!"
"Freddie! Freddie!!" I yelled out as Katie was holding onto Effy. Freddie found us and we hoisted him up.
"What's going on?? Is she alright?" Katie and I were asking, beyond worried.
"It's ok. Let's get her out of here," Freddie said.
We managed to get out of the festival and went back to where Freddie's grandfather was. His grandfather told us to take Eff to the dining hall for a cup of tea.
"Come on, Eff. Everything's alright," Katie said as we made our way towards the dining hall.
"I have to use the toilet," Effy said. That was the moment that I always wished I told her she couldn't, but of course, I didn't.
"Ok," I said. She went inside and the two of us waited for a while. I thought I heard what sounded like slicing something, "Eff, everything alright?"
"Eff?" Katie said. I tried opening the door, but it was locked.

"Shit!" I said, running back into the room where Freddie was, "Freds, Effy won't come out of the toilet!"
"You mean you've left her alone?"
Freddie and I ran back to the bathroom and he burst the door open. What I saw next sent shockwaves through my body. Effy was on the floor, her wrists were slashed open and blood was on the floor.
"Someone help!!" Freddie cried. His grandfather was surely getting help, I rushed out of there, my head spinning as I vomited on the pavement. I was pretty sure I was having a panic attack.
"Bri? Bri!!" I looked up and saw Katie, her eyes teary as well.
"I can't breathe, Katie! What if she dies??" I said, sobbing into her shoulder. We both stood there for a few minutes, hugging each other, and crying.
I couldn't help but wonder if this was partially my fault, for not realizing the signs earlier.
