《5SOS Sickfics》(AU) Michael- Midnight Talks
Advertisement
The lads of 5 Seconds Of Summer had recently added a new member to their record label, Hi Or Hey Records. They had needed a new opening act for their next tour, so had turned to their researchers to find a unique young Australian performer or band to join them on the road. They had gone through many people, many bands, but had finally decided on one person.
Their name was Alexis Oliver.
When they had first found her, she had seemed like a normal girl, except for the crazy brown curls on top of her head. The research team had found her on twitter and had traced her to an instagram, wattpad (which was full of 5SOS fanfics, a good sign), and a smule sing account, where they first listened to her voice.
They had clicked on the first one that had been a 5sos song, which was Jet Black Heart. Her voice was unique, and sounded brilliant. They liked how her voice was different, and she had to be the one for the job. The crew had spoken to 5SOS, who also agreed that she would be the opening act. All sorted. Now to actually get in touch with the girl.
They started by following her with the Hi Or Hey Records twitter. They then messaged her, asking whether she would like to be part of the Hi Or Hey Records team. At first, she had thought that it was just a joke, a scam, but once she had actually looked at their twitter and seen that they were who they were, the only way that they could describe her reaction was 'fangirling'. Which they found quite amusing, to be honest.
She couldn't believe her luck. She had always dreamt of being noticed, and here, Hi Or Hey Records asking her to be part of the team! This just doesn't happen. What the hell? But in no way was she complaining. This was... unreal.
It started with asking some questions, the usual, then the record company asked to meet Alexis in order to sort it out properly. She wasn't going to say no. Especially when they said 5SOS would be there. Well.... The only problem was trying to convince her parents that this was a good idea. That was going to be difficult.
Eventually she had convinced them, and Hi Or Hey Records had flown her out. After sorting some things out, they introduced her to 5SOS and they hit off immediately. The four lads found that she was quite weird, and less girly than they expected, but it worked perfectly. Which was a good thing, they were going to be sharing a tour bus for about 6 months.
They soon learned that Alexis had a few... abnormalities, if you may. First, she was an insomniac, but that didn't bother them much, as their very own Michael also suffered from the condition. The second thing was that she wasn't exactly happy with her own life, she considered herself depressed, never diagnosed as she had never gone to the doctor about it. It had greatly impacted her home life, she had cutted for a while, even to the point of suicide.
The lads had huge sympathy for her, it was what the lads had been trying to stop, or at least minimise, with their second album. They told her that she could talk to them if she ever needed to and she was very grateful for that. They then told her that she was going to be coming to LA with them to record and the conversation changed tone completely.

She asked what was going to happen, with recording and whatnot. They said she would be recording some songs, she should choose her best. They flew to LA the next day, Alexis extremely excited as she had never been to America and she had always wanted to go. They wrote and recorded her album over the next month, as well as finishing 5SOS3.
They released Alexis's album, Waterfall, a month before 5SOS3. They released tour dates a month later, the tour starting in Sydney another month later.
The tour began, and Alexis kept swapping who she was sharing the hotel room with. Weird, but, oh well. It was about 4 concerts in that she was sharing with Michael. She was looking forward to it.
After the concert that night, the pair tumbled up to their hotel room, exhausted, but both knew fully well that they probably were not going to sleep. When they were in bed, there was about half an hour of silence. Michael broke it.
"Alexis?" He whispered into the darkness. She flipped over to look at him with a hum of response. "You awake?" She rolled her eyes.
"No, Michael, I'm fast asleep." She said sarcastically. "You idiot." Michael chuckled.
"I think I already knew that."
"You needed to be reminded, so your ego didn't surpass your stupidity." Alexis sassed.
"There's too much stupidity. Even Calum's ego couldn't surpass it." Michael laughed quietly.
"True true." She laughed with him. "So... how long have you been staying up for who knows how long each night?"
"Too long." Michael mumbled. It had been so long, he forgot.
"Yeah, it's only been about a year now, but it still seems too long for me." The 15 year old sighed. "It doesn't seem like it's ever going to end."
"It should. Do you know why it started?" Michael asked curiously.
"I was reading up late every night and eventually it just became natural, but then I found I wasn't able to sleep most nights at all." Alexis answered.
"Oh, so it was kinda where staying up just became routine and your sleep patterns just got messed up?"
"Basically, but also my brain just decided not to let me sleep at all." Alexis chuckled slightly.
"Ok. So, what do you do all night? Laying staring at the ceiling is pretty boring, as you probably already figured." Michael asked, being really nosy now.
"I don't mind talking with you, but we can watch some youtube or something on my laptop?" Alexis suggested.
"I quite like just talking, but if you want to watch youtube we can?" Michael said kind of awkwardly.
"Well... I'm too lazy to get out of bed, so maybe just talking will do?"
"Ok. So.. what we talking about?"
"Hmmm... favourite member of 1D?" Alexis asked the first thing that came to her tired mind.
"Ummmm.... Louis? Probably."
"I thought you'd say Niall, but mine's Liam anyways." Alexis giggled.
"Ok.. my turn to ask a question. How did you find us? Like, our music?"
"Basically through 1D. I'd heard of you guys before, but wasn't really interested. But then my 1D fanfic got deleted by a hacker and I lost my 1D spirit and you guys happened to appear, I don't remember why, but you were there."
"You write fanfics?" Michael teased. Not that he really cared. It was cool.
"Yeah, about sex with you." Alexis teased back, laughing silently.
"Moving on. You ask a question now." Michael muttered hurriedly.

"Er... sexual preferences?" Alexis asked, genuinely curious.
"Next question." Michael said, blushing a bit.
"Michael. Answer. The. Damn. Question."
"I'll pass on that one." Michael told her, not wanting to give an answer. He didn't even know why he was being so awkward.
"Alright, I'll change it. Are you straight?" Alexis smirked, he was not going to avoid the question just like that.
"Oh, for gods sakes!" Michael said. He didn't say no, but he didn't say yes either.
"Michael answer the question before I get out of my bed and jump on yours."
"I'm straight." Michael answered hurriedly. That could be because of the threat though.
"That's a shame. Which one of you is gay?" Alexis asked, she needed at least one of them to prefer boys, her fanfictions depended on it.
"None?" Michael said, though it seemed like a question.
"Damn you and your media training." Alexis groaned, genuinely annoyed.
"Why though?" Michael asked, confused now.
"Just because."
"Are you trying to out us for the news or something?" Michael pressed.
"NO! Why would you think that? I just want some inspiration for my fanfics!" Alexis almost screeched, earning a bang on the wall from the room where Luke and Calum were.
"Okay! My turn for a question. Umm... What do you write in these fanfics?" He asked, having always been to scared to read them himself.
"Well, it depends on what I feel like doing. But most of the times it's sickfics." Alexis answered, knowing that Michael most likely had no idea what the hell a sickfic was.
"That totally answered my question. What the fuck is a sickfic?"
"Where I write about you or one of the other three being sick and how you get healthy again." Alexis answered the question she knew was coming.
"Why? Do you want us sick or something? How do you even know what we are like when we're sick?" He asked, honestly worried about this.
"I have no idea what you are like when you are sick, I use my imagination. It's just how I learn about a lot of things, through fanfiction and writing. It's just weird really."
"Okay.. Learn about what sort of stuff though?" Michael asked, wanting to know, but not wanting to either.
"Basically everything I probably shouldn't know, from gay sex to mental illnesses. I learnt about depression and suicide through fanfiction and now that I think about it, it probably set me off onto a downward spiral." Alexis answered truthfully.
"You shouldn't read it then. And why are we featured in a fanfic about gay sex? Like what the fuck?"
"Michael. Think about it for a second. Your fans are all hormonal teenage girls that are mostly fucked up in the brain. Why the fuck WOULDN'T you be in a fanfic about gay sex. Not just one either, there are a couple hundred, maybe even thousand books about you and your bandmates having sex. I can't believe you are so damn naive about this shit." Alexis ranted.
"This conversation just got really awkward and has scarred me worse than Liz when she came on tour with us." Michael said, looking... I don't even know..
"It's only awkward because you made it be. I'm perfectly fine talking about this shit."
"I have one very important question though. Who dates who?"
"You literally all date each other, though fan favourites are Cake and Mashton. Or really anyone with Luke." Alexis laughed at Michael's question.
"Ok. Umm.. next question. Who would you date from my band?"
"I've literally thought this through like 50 million times, so here comes a longish explanation. Right, so I'd originally get with Ashton because he's in constant Daddy mode, but then I'd probably cheat on him with Calum and then you'd sweep in and take me from both of them. All the while there is so much fucking sexual tension between Luke and I and it gets to us while he is playing peacemaker and I end up with him." Alexis explained extremely fast and none of it really made sense to Michael, because it would never happen.
"Umm.. right. Well, remind me not to date you because you're so confusing." Michael laughed, trying to make sense of what had just been said.
"Eh, as I said, Luke's the one I'd probably end up with. You would just be a filler. In more than one sense." Alexis smirked.
"Oh god! Sorry but nah!" Michael exclaimed, forgetting that he was supposed to be quiet.
"Can you two please shut up?! There are people in this building who don't have trouble sleeping and would like to!" They heard a shout, presumably Calum, from the room next door.
"Nah! We're gonna be as loud as possible so you can experience the pain we feel every night." Alexis laughed.
"ERGHHHHHHH!" The two people in the neighbouring room groaned.
"Suck it!" Michael shouted.
"I hate you!" Luke shouted.
"Love you too, honey!" Alexis sassed back.
"Ugh." Luke groaned, before silencing. Michael looked back to Alexis.
"We should stop talking about these fanfic things. It's weird. And the thought of sex between the band is just...ugh. Lets.. umm.." Michael said, trailing off as he had no idea.
"Talk about us, like... who we actually are?" Alexis asked. "Like, you don't actually know that much about me, and I barely know anything about you."
"That sounded so deep. Okay, yeah, though, let's do it. You start?" Michael said, nodding.
"Umm... like, maybe re-introduce myself or what?"
"Re-introduce yourself. Start completely from scratch."
"Alright. Hi, I'm Mi-Alexis Oliver, I'm 15 years old and I write fanfictions about 5 Seconds Of Summer for fun." Alexis stuttered slightly but brought herself back.
"Who are 5 Seconds Of Summer?" Michael joked. "No, seriously, what were you gonna say?"
"Oh, nothing. Just slipped." Alexis blushed.
"Come on! What were you gonna say?" Michael pressed.
"Nothing. It's nothing."
"Are you sure?" Michael asked, realising that she was being serious and he was teasing her.
"It's... it's a secret." Alexis knew, right as she said it, that it would set of even more questions from Michael.
"Is it serious? What it is about?"
"It's just.. I dunno how to say it without this whole thing being weird." Alexis turned onto her stomach, burrowing her face into the pillow.
"Things are only weird if you make them weird. You don't have to say, but if you do, I won't judge, and you know it." Michael told her, smiling.
"Can you come cuddle me? Just until I wanna tell you, I'm not ready yet."
"I sure can." Michael grinned, getting out of bed and padding across the room to Alexis'. He got in beside her and put his arm around the girl.
"Thanks." Alexis hummed, taking her head out from the pillows and facing Michael. The pair cuddled in a comfortable silence for a few minutes.
"You okay?" Michael asked. Alexis nodded, her eyes now closed. "You ready to tell me?"
"I guess." Alexis sighed. "If I don't do it now, I'll never do it."
"Go Alexis. You know I support you, no matter what." Michael smiled and Alexis nodded, taking a big breath.
"What I was going to say was... Hi, I'm Michael Oliver." Alexis confessed and Michael took a step back for a second.
"That's my name? Well, Clifford, but you get what I mean." Michael said, seeming really confused.
"You don't get it, I knew you wouldn't get it. Why was I stupid enough to tell you when I knew you wouldn't get it?" Alexis rambled, burrowing her head into her pillow once again. Michael put his arms back around her.
"I don't get what you're saying right this second, but explain and I will. I will understand, I promise."
"Argh, fine." Alexis groaned, pulling her face up to look at Michael. "I.. um.. I identify as male and the name I identify with is Michael."
"Okay.. so... " Michael trailed off, understanding but being unsure of what to say. "I don't really know what to say, except for I do understand and I definitely support you."
"Thanks." Alexis smiled, placing her head onto Michael's chest. "What time is it?"
"Umm..." Michael said, pulling out his phone to check. "4:23"
"Alright. Do you think you're gonna be able to sleep? I think I might be able to and I don't want to make you stay awake without me." Alexis asked.
"For once, I think I could probably sleep. Do you want me to go back to my bed or..." Michael asked, checking if she still wanted to cuddle or not.
"Can you stay? You're making me more comfortable than normal." Alexis asked.
"I sure can stay. I was hoping you were going to say that. This is comfortable."
"Goodnight Michael."
"Goodnight.. Michael?"
"Yeah."
