《Crossroads (Lesbian Stories)(gxg)》Chapter 27: Downs and Ups

Kayla's POV
I decided to go to the dance with Jesse since he told me relaxing with him for a bit would take my mind off the break up and to let loose and have some fun. Bad mistake because everyone assumed we were a couple and there was a bunch of pointing and whispering whenever we walked past them.
"Well if that's what the people want, shouldn't we give it to them?" Jesse said while pulling me closer by the waist.
"Jesse could you please stop?" I said while breaking off the body contact he initiated. "I told you I don't want to be with you like that."
Jesse backed away from me but still had a cocky smile on his face. "Don't worry babe, you'll be back for me." He adjusted his bow tie on the tuxedo and gestured for me to walk up the stairs to the balcony since it had been 20 minutes after the boat started moving.
Up in the balcony, the view was absolutely amazing, we were just starting to go under the Golden Gate Bridge which was dimly lit in the evening and it was so beautiful. A soft breeze blew as the slow moving boat cruised through the waters of San Francisco Bay.
"This is honestly so beautiful." I said while stepping closer to the balcony.
"Eh it's alright. If you want to see an amazing view we should go out on my family's yacht and go on a trip. What do you say?" Jesse said while grabbing my hand.
Then I see Christy and Natalie walk up to the balcony. Christy and I make eye contact for a brief second before she sees Jesse and I holding hands and she looks away and walks to the other part of the balcony. I quickly let go of his hands and pretended not to stare at Natalie. However I made sure I was standing in a position where I could talk to Jesse and keep my eye on Natalie and Christy.
Christy was wearing a black cocktail dress that exposed her back and hugged the curves of her body. She was wearing black wedges and curled her hair slightly so it was wavy. Damn did Christy look good.
Natalie on the other hand, was wearing a black button down, black jeans, grey shoes, with a white tie. A white tie?! Grey shoes?! She could've at least matched with Christy by wearing a black tie and black shoes. Shit I probably would've looked better than Natalie in a tie.
"Kayla? Did you listen to a word I said?" Jesse said while tapping on me slightly, breaking me out of my train of thought.
"Um sorry I was thinking about something. What did you say?" I said in an unapologetic tone.
"I asked you if you wanted to grab something to eat after the dance. You know like some Denny's or IHOP." Jesse said a bit annoyed.

"Oh yeah sure."
Suddenly, Christy's laugh filled the air. It wasn't like those small giggles you get when someone tells you a small joke but like a genuine laugh full of happiness. The laugh that I haven't heard in ages. Then she smiled her signature wide smile that I haven't seen in a long time.
It broke my heart to see someone else making Christy laugh and smile the way I made her smile and laugh. Maybe I deserve it though, I did cheat on her. But I want her back so badly.
I looked away from them and drew my attention back on Jesse. "I heard they have a chocolate fountain downstairs. Let's go check it out." I grabbed his hand and walked down the stairs to the main dance floor and into the smaller room where the food was.
Jesse dipped a strawberry into the fountain and then brought it up to my mouth. He placed it in my mouth but it didn't have the same excitement or romantic feelings I got when Christy did it.
"Let's go take a photo together." Jesse said while walking toward the photo area where people were taking photos with their date.
Surprisingly, there was no one there so there was no line, except for the couple that was currently taking their photo. That couple was Natalie and Christy.
Natalie's arm was around Christy's waist and Christy's arm was on Natalie's chest. The pose that we used to do when taking a photo.
"Now can the happy couple smile? Ready, 1, 2, 3!" The photographer said and he snapped the photo. "Your photo should be coming out in a few moments, just wait here and it should come out of the printer. Next!"
Christy hadn't noticed me yet but when she did, she was staring at me. I could swear I felt her eyes burning into me.
"Pose!" The photographer said as he brought up his camera.
Jesse wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me very close to him. I didn't place on my hand on his chest however since I was too distracted with Natalie and Christy leaving.
The photographer snapped the photo and it actually turned out quite nicely.
"Hey I'm going to use the restroom really quickly. I'll meet you on the dance floor."
I rushed into the bathroom in need of some private time and to calm myself down from all this shit that's happening. Well obviously luck wasn't on my side because Natalie was at the sink in front of the mirror fixing her tie.
"Having a good time?" She asked as she wrapped the tie around her collar of her shirt.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I spat out bitterly, spinning to face her.
"Woah dude calm down. I just wanted to know if you were having a good time." Natalie said while taking a step back.

"Why? Cause you're having such a good time with Christy right?" I said while rolling my eyes.
"Yeah she's a fun girl to be around."
"Look Natalie, if you think you could just come here and steal my girl you should-"
"Wait, hold the fuck up. One, I'm not trying to steal your girl Kayla. Second, she's not even yours anymore. You let her go. I'm just trying to give her a good time at boat dance." Natalie said in a calm tone.
"How dare you even say that?! What do you mean you're not trying to steal my girl? She's still my girl." I said angrily.
"I mean that once you cheated on her with Jesse, she wasn't your girl anymore. You broke the trust she had in you Kayla. You hurt her really badly."
"Do you think I WANTED to hurt her?!" I nearly shouted.
"No I don't. But you don't hurt the people you love." Natalie said in a monotone.
There was a long pause before I spoke. "Please tell me how I can get her back." I said softly.
"There's no guarantee she'll take you back. The relationships Christy are in are built on a foundation of trust. Once you break it, it's hard to earn it back from her, especially since you cheated on her. Just show her that you're there as a friend for her too. Don't push the boundaries too much since the wounds are still fresh. Admit your wrongs to yourself and accept the fact you fucked up and need to fix things. If you do manage to win her back, I swear to god if you hurt her again you'll be dead."
"Thank you so much Natalie I-"
"Also stop hanging out with Jesse. You guys claim you're nothing but you still constantly hang around him and that doesn't look good for the girl you're trying to win back. I mean you fucking cheated on her with him. Cut all ties with him." Natalie said. She looked at me for a moment and walked back out to the dance.
**
That same week, I was able to show Christy that I still cared for her and would just love her as a friend. It had been storming the past few days and Christy caught a cold and didn't come to school. I found out from some friends that she was at home sick and during lunchtime, I drove to the supermarket and bought her some chicken noodle soup, tissues, cold medicine, orange juice, cookies, and her favorite candy bar, Twix.
With my bad luck, it was storming that day also and I didn't have an umbrella AND the street Christy's house was on had street cleaning so I wasn't allowed to park on her street. I had to park three streets away and walk to her house in the pouring rain to get to her house. Oh well then it'll be worth it if it made Christy feel better.
I walked in the pouring rain and finally reached her house. When I did, I was literally dripping wet from head to toe. I noticed there were no cars in the driveway and I mentally cursed myself for being a dumbass and not parking there. I rang the doorbell and waited for an answer.
When Christy opened the door, she looked at me with wide eyes. "Kayla? What are you doing here?" She said in a raspy voice.
I held up the grocery bag which somehow didn't get entirely soaked since it was one of those plastic durable ones. "I got you a few things that I thought would make you feel better."
She looked at me before realizing I was soaked. "You're soaking wet! Come in and take a shower. I'll bring out some clothes for you to wear."
I set the bag of goods I bought for Christy on the kitchen counter. "No it's fine really I just planned on dropping this stuff for you off and leaving." I said while walking toward the front door.
"You'll catch a nasty cold like me. Get into the shower. Now." She said with her cute little raspy voice while point toward the bathroom.
"Okay madam." I said while walking to the bathroom.
I hopped in the shower and took a quick 5 minutes shower. I opened the bathroom door slightly to call Christy for some dry clothes only to see a tshirt and a pair of shorts neatly folded in front of the door.
I walked outside to see Christy pouring the soup into two separate bowls.
"I bought that for you to eat. Not me." I said with a small laugh.
"Sit down and eat. Besides it's lunch time too." Christy said softly as she sat down on the dining table and I sat down on the opposite side of her.
We ate in silence with not an awkward silence in between us but it wasn't necessarily comfortable either.
"Thank you for bringing me all the medicine and goodies." She said softly.
"No problem. I should go, I have to get back to class." I said while getting up and heading to the door.
"Wait take this umbrella with you. Thanks again Kayla."
"Thank you. See you later." I said while leaving.
"See you later."
