《Eden's Alpha》Chapter 17

I don't believe it
The wolf just transformed into the injured body of Finley
Oh no
I step back, in shock, Finley immediately rushing away from my grasp. He's scratched up but seems okay. He has a look of surprise on his face and won't take his eyes off of my own.
Before I can do anything, he's quickly on his feet running to the wolf I first injured.
"Zeke, get up!" he says, leaning over the first wolf.
Zeke? No, not him too!
I glance at the unmoving third wolf. Who could that be?
Turning back towards Finley, I watch him shake the wolf. The wolf stirs as it's moved around, beginning to stretch out. It's head lifts slightly, it's eyes locking onto my own.
Does he know?
I look down at myself to notice I'm still in wolf form. They don't know who I am.
I need to get away from them.
I can tell Finley is surprised I let him go so easily, so hopefully, they'll just let me go.
I back away slowly and eventually turn around entirely. As I slip into the shadows I freeze hearing a growl. I turn around and connect eyes with the first injured wolf. He sees my wolf figure retreating and gets up slowly.
Before I can react he charges at me, Finley getting lost behind him. The last thing I remember is being hit with a turbulent force strong enough to shake a building.

"Wake it up!"
I am shaken roughly, my wolf body trembling under strong arms.
I open my eyes to find myself back in the safe house, laying in a corner of the rusty room
Around me stands Finley, Zeke, and James, looking disheveled and furious. Finley has red scratch marks on his body, tinged with blood. I look over at Zeke and see his head wrapped in a bandage. I'm not sure where Isaiah is.

"Where is she! Where did your pack take her!" Zeke yells at me, closing me in further into the corner.
I shake my head, confusion spreading throughout my shaking body.
In all honesty, I have no idea who to trust. If Zeke and Finley are wolves, does that mean Isaiah is one too? Does James know about them being wolves?
"Where did you take Eden!? She was right here! Speak wolf!" James says.
Oh, that's right, they don't know it's me.
I try to shift into human form but for some reason, my body won't let me. Maybe it's because I don't have enough room.
"SHIFT!" Finley says approaching me, I show my teeth telling him to back off. There's no way I can shift with them yelling at me.
They don't seem to understand my message, only closing in tighter. BACK UP!
All of a sudden my head starts pounding and stars start darting in and out of my vision. I can feel my blood rushing through my body and pressure beginning to build underneath my skin.
What is happening?
As if told to do so by my gut, I let out a roaring and ear-shattering howl. Behind this howl, a wave of power and force radiates out, knocking all the guys to the ground.
They sit up in shock and stare at me, mouths agape.
I need to shift, now.
Now having enough space, my body begins to shape itself back to normal. I feel my chest and legs expanded until suddenly I'm laying on the ground as myself again.
"Oh my gosh!" I feel arms around me, pulling my face out of my arms. "Eden, is that you?!"
I can only nod at Finley's stricken face.
"How can this be?" James asks, pushing Finley aside to see if it really is me.

Zeke stares silently, on hand on his bandaged hand, the other over his mouth.
"No way," Finley comes forward once again, this time pulling off his T-shirt and giving it to me to put on.
I pull on his gray shirt, the guys all turning away. When I'm dressed I cough slightly, signaling my decency.
"Eden, you've got some explaining to do. I don't know how or when this happened but I swear if you're working with Baylor's pack..."
"I'm not, Zeke," I say standing up with my back against the wall, "and why should I be explaining! I think it's a mighty good idea for you to start talking."
Zeke holds his hands up, "Alright, alright. But not here, let's go inside the tent." James helps me away from the wall and we move slowly into the tent.
I look up at James as we walk, trying to figure out what he knows. For some reason, I have a gut feeling he already knows all about Finley and Zeke being wolves.
Suddenly it hits me, "You too, James?"
He looks down at me and nods, "Isaiah as well, I guess we're all wolves."
We're all wolves. I look around, "where's Isaiah?"
"Sleeping. He hasn't completely recovered yet from being attacked."
I hang my head. This is all my fault.
James helps me inside the tent and onto the ground, my back pressed against a rod.
"Alright," I say, "explain."
"Well first off, let me start out by saying that we're not the bad guys here, Eden. I want you to hear us out before you react. Okay?" I nod my head at Finely before he continues.
"Before the Black War, Isaiah and I were in a pack together. He was like a father to me, one that I never truly had. As I got older, we both discovered I was going to be picked for a warrior role in the pack, something that I refused to have." He talks quietly, his voice barely audible.
"We ran from the pack after that, meeting up with Zeke and James on the road. They had both been exiled from their packs after a miscommunication. We were okay and lived good lives independent from any pack. But that was all before the war. Once the fighting started, there was no true side for us and we only were looking for a way out. That's when Isaiah found you." Finley is now looking at me, his eyes telling me much more than what he was willing to say.
"He convinced us enough to take you with us and protect you. Isaiah saw something special in you, Eden. We all did. We made a pact as a group to never speak about our wolf backgrounds because, to us, we believe in the importance of humanity."
"So you didn't tell me because...."
"We didn't tell you because you weren't ready to know," Zeke says, jumping in. "Eden, there's lots you don't know about us."
"What are you hiding from me? Why should I believe a word you say!" I yell, growing frustrated.
"You can trust us, well, because we work for a rebel group fighting to end all pack systems."
"In other words," Zeke says, cutting off James, "we work for Rogue."
