《Two Hikers》Chapter 2 Part 3

Ryan and I were now laying on the ground talking about random things when the conversation turned to a Mexican restaurant, "Hold on, there's a guy in a gorilla suit. Does he also jump off the cliff and into the pool?" I ask through laughter that is breaking through
"No no, he chases a guy in a banana suit, THAT guy jumps off the cliff and into the pool" Ryan responds also laughing lightly.
"Im sorry this is a Mexican restaurant?" With the way it sounds there is no way that this is a restaurant; it doesn't sound real.
"Ehh nominally, the food is, well, terrible, but its Gabe's favourite place. I tell ya he's the oldest twelve year old I know." He talks about him like he's still here, I can't even think what its going to be like to live without your best friend.
For a few moments its quiet, the only sound that can be heard is the wind blowing gently through the trees; its so peaceful up here and the view is amazing. I could stay here forever.
"Can I ask you something?" Ryan is now sitting up leaning on his hand and looking down at me. Should I be worried. "Of course"
"How did you know what to say? Like to calm me down." And there it is. Fuck it. I might as well; it was going to come out eventually.
"There's something you should know about me, and it's gonna be easier to show you than to explain it." I turn to face him but don't look him in the eye straight away. "This is gonna seem a little weird at first, then really weird. Do you trust me?" He responds with a little nod of his head showing me I can continue. "Okay. Think of something that just scares the shit out of you, really focus, until you feel it."

He leans forward so he is sitting up properly and exhales lightly. "Mac, Typhon, all of it. You're afraid you won't be able to handle it without Gabe." That's what he's afraid of, didn't think it would be that but I can understand it.
"Never knew anyone so good at getting in and out of trouble. Man, this one time..." A golden glow starts to surround him. I've never seen this before. He's lightly laughing so it must be a good sign.
"Whatever it is you're thinking about right now, don't stop, okay." I move slightly closer to him as if that will help me understand it more. "Keep going."
Ryan goes back to laying down on the floor with his knee up. He is still laughing but this time it's a bit louder and more frequent. 'What emotion is this?'
When I 'look' deeper, I start to feel it, joy. I feel it surround me and it starts to take over my body, and soon enough I can feel it as if it was my own.
I slowly start to piece it together and all of this happiness is about Gabe hitting a goose with his car and Ryan making him bury it by scaring him, then pranking him by making him dig the grave. I can see why Ryan is laughing, it seems like a great memory
"So did you finish burying the goose or not? Okay, also, Property of the Crown, really?" I can't help but giggle at that.
"They are technically protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act" And with that we both start laughing profoundly. Ryan sits up very quickly and asks "But... how?" There it is.
"There's something wrong with the way I process other peoples emotions. It's only ever been the bad emotions before, but that was pure joy."

"Who else knows?" Well Alex but that's because she has it too. "Alex. But she's the same as me, I found out when we went to save Ethan, she saw his fear as well as me, but other than that just you. I've never told anyone until now. And I'm guessing that's how Alex knows Mac is terrified of Typhon, he reported Gabe's call and they ignored it. I don't know anything else but we can ask Alex when we see her next."
"Someone had to make the decision to let the blast go off, seems like finding out who would be a good start." I didn't know Gabe well but part of me wants to know why he had to die and if that means going after Typhon that's that's what I will do.
"So you're going after Typhon?" I guess so "You'll need help." No shit.
"You don't have to." He really doesn't, I don't want him being caught in the crossfire. "You're stuck with me now" I can't help what I do next but I go in and hug him but to little shock he puts his arm on my back to hug back.
"You're welcome, I guess." "Yeah thanks. Thank you." I can't say that enough. "No, thank you."
We just sit and talk then for I don't know how long.

Mistbound: Eternity
The world is said to be formed out of duality of man. Good and evil, right and wrong, light and dark. And with duality, comes conflict. A meaningless clash of ideals results in pointless wars. Azlan is wanderer who doesn't falls in either category. Tired and done with the redundant world, he lives his secluded life, hunting monstrosites for coin in the crumbling province of Mountaliya, situated in the land of Forsa. The premise follows Azlan as he explores the province, experiencing the culture and its people as they try to stand unshaken amidst a cold and unforgiving world. The story is a dark fantasy that is a balance of action and world building but most importantly, it follows the people going about their daily lives. The world has entered a state of stasis, there are no high stakes, no glory to be had, only a decaying realm of ice remains. Everyone awaits for Heaven's descent, an event prophesied to bring the world out of stasis, by granting the champion of the event a wish. Heaven Shall Descend. I wanted to write a high fantasy story that doesn't focuses too much on Magic and Swordfights, but rather interactions between people, a bit of politics and ideals. This is my first attempt at writing something this huge, please let me know if you see mistakes or any problems in general, so I can learn from them. (The cover picture is from the year 1818, "Wanderer Above the Mist" by Caspar David Friedrich). I also write Short stories set in the same shared universe.
