《Brother of Wind {book 4: The Tournament of Elements}》chapter 18

As the thunder of dragons flew over the ocean, the sun was lighting up the scene.
"Chen and his Anacondrai army have a day's start on us. Be prepared for anything and everything." Lloyd announced.
"How did we lose so much time?" Kai asked, Skylor clinging to his shoulders.
"You know, you took an oath never to leave a man behind." Dareth called from Zane's dragon.
"And we're not all quick learners. Mastering your fear to create Power Dragons takes time." Jay said.
"Especially when someone who had one all along never taught us how!" He shouted.
"Okay, okay! I get it. I don't tell you things. Even I need time to do things." Morro shouted.
"Well, we're running out of that. There's Ninjago City. Hurry." Nya shouted, pointing ahead as she held onto Jay.
"Hurry's my middle name. Hyah!" Griffin rushed off on his dragon.
"Remember, whatever happens down there, we're stronger united. We fight as one." Lloyd reminded.
"Let's do this!" Jay shouted, going for a dive.
The people of the city gazed up at the colourful array of dragons flying above the buildings. Kai landed in a square to check on the roads when the people spotted Skylor.
"Serpentine!!" A woman shouted. The people started to flee.
"I wish I still had the power to change." Skylar looked at her hands.
"You have changed. You're with us now." Kai reassured.
"If we're the first ones they see, where's Chen?" Garmadon asked as Kai jumped off his dragon.
"And why hasn't he attacked?" Garmadon went on.
"We have to get you and my father off the streets before we alarm everyone." Lloyd turned to Skylor. "Everyone else, stick together and watch over the people." Lloyd yelled, the alliance taking flight.
Skylor looked at her hand. It shifted back to it's original colour... Strange.
. . .
''Why is the spell wearing off?!" Chen shouted as his hand shifted back.
"If we attack now and turn back to normal, everything will be for nothing!"
"Eh, about that...uh, we read everything on page 149, but lo and behold, the spell continues onto the next page." Chope flipped the page of the spell book.
"You slithering klutzes! What have I told you about attention to details? I knew I should've had Clouse read the spell." Chen exclaimed.
"In order for the transformation to become permanent, one must obtain the essence of a true Anacondrai." Chen read.
"Where are we supposed to get that? There aren't any real Anacondrai left!" He shouted.
"Eh, but if there's any out there, we'll find it." Kapau filled Chen.
"There's another problem, Master. The ninja and their friends have arrived." Zugu informed.
"Oh, why must conquering Ninjago be so difficult?" Chen threw his hands up.
"Fine. We change plans. It's not like I don't have something else up my sleeve." He starters.
"And what's that, Master?" Zugu asked.
"This!" Chen threw the book in Zugu's face.
"Now come on. We have some scheming to do." Chen smirked.
. . .
Nya had lead the ninja to the samurai x base. The falcon flew and perched on Zane's arm.
"And hello to you, my old friend." Zane smiled.
"Ah, you're all back!" Wu exclaimed.
"Zane, look at you. You're all...shiny."
Zane laughed.
"Father. Sorry for leaving." Morro hugged Wu.
"You did well, my son." Wu said.
"But where is your father?" Misako asked Lloyd. The ninja moved out of the way.

"It's me, Misako."
Misako gasped. Cole moved aside more.
"Don't worry." Skylor said.
"We have reason to believe the spell may be wearing off." Skylor showed her hand.
"But if that's true, it only makes Chen more desperate to act now. Everyone, this is Skylor, Chen's daughter." Kai said.
Skylor bowed a little.
"You're amongst friends, Skylor." Misako reassured.
"Thank you for looking after my Misako." Garmadon said to Wu.
"As any good brother should." Wu said.
"Yes. A... Good brother."
"What's going on there?" Morro whispered to Lloyd. The green ninja sighed.
"Uh, when they were younger..." Lloyd started.
"Your dad wrote this--"
"Letter?" Morro asked. Lloyd widened his eyes.
"Yeah, how'd you know?"
"I was there when the letter was written. Then later, after I was kidnapped, I saw Garmadon walking away with that same envelope in his hands." Morro said.
"And you didn't tell him?" Lloyd asked.
"Being betrayed by someone you trust like that, it can shatter you. I didn't want that happening to my father." Morro said.
"You should've at least--" Lloyd got cut off.
"We don't have much time if Chen's making his move soon." Morro said, gathering everyone's attention.
"Uh, right. Our friends are on standby, but w don't know where Chen will strike first." Lloyd walked over to the computer.
"And if we're not all there to stop him when he first attacks..." Cole trailed off.
"Ninjago will succumb to war. Our greatest fear will come true." Garmadon finished.
"Then the greatest victory will be that which has no battle." Wu said.
"But how do we prevent a war? How do we stop an enemy we know so little about?" Jay asked.
"We need experience. Anacondrai are great when in numbers, why Chen has an army, but alone, they're not that strong as your first encounter." Morro said.
"And you know this, how?" Kai asked.
"We don't know every fact about anacondrai but there is someone who does..." Morro said. The falcon flew over to the computer and clicked onto the screen, kryptarium prison.
"Are you kidding? No." Lloyd waved his hand.
"I dunno, Morro may be right." Nya said.
"He's the only one we can ask." She said, the other boys looked a little confused.
"So, are we really that desperate?" Lloyd asked.
"Maybe we are." Morro shrugged.
. . .
The ninja we're flying over and out of the city to their next destination.
"Kryptarium prison." Garmadon announced as they landed.
"Home of Ninjago's worst of the worst."
"I don't get it. Who's gonna help us here?" Cole asked.
"If one must learn how to fight a snake, one must talk to one first." Wu said.
The guards opened the door and the team walked in.
"Sorry I had to confiscate your weapons. Here we try to foster what I call an environment of encouragement." The warden said.
Lasers, spikes, fire cannons and spike balls shut down in the hallway.
'That's a way of taking precautions." Morro noted.
The warden lead the ninja team through the main room.
"Ninja ain't popular around these parts, considering you put most of them behind bars, hmm. But who you're looking for, he hates ninja the most. Last cell on the left." The warden directed as shouting and threats directed towards the ninja were metaphoricaly thrown.
"Hmm, why yes, Pythor, this may very well be the greatest cup of Tea you've steeped. Oh, you flatter me, Rodrigo, but do go on." A small bleached anacondrai sipped a small cup.of tea while using his tail to to hold up and basketball with a face on it.

"We need your help." Lloyd kneeled down. Pythor jumped and shut the blinds to his little house he was in.
"Help you? The ninja? You fed me to the Devourer, defeated every army I've aligned with, even forced me to swallow your shrinking pill! Haven't you done enough damage to my diminishing ego?" Pythor shouted in his high pitched voice.
Morro placed his hand over his mouth.
"Pft. That's entirely your fault." He snickered. Cole slapped his arm.
"We're tryna get him to help us, remember?" The black ninja turned Pythor's doll house prison over to see the snake face to face.
"Well played. I suppose this is about that culturally insensitive noodle baron and his ilk that are now Anacondrai. Impostors, if you ask me." Pythor scoffed.
"You are the last remaining Anacondrai. You must know how to stop them." Jay said.
"I'm not going to say another word until you can figure out how to make me big. And don't ask me to trust a ninja." Pythor turned his back.
"Would you trust a snake?" Garmadon leaned in. Pythor turned around.
"Garmacondrai? Oh, now my interest is piqued. Let's make a deal, shall we?" Pythor flipped his hand in the air.
Zane looked up.
"I thought you should be aware that someone has been poking around at the Kryptarium database with an interest in your, shall I say, little friend." Pixal informed.
"Chen?" Zane asked. He walked out and scanned the area.
"I don't know, but be on your guard. You may be expecting unannounced visitors." Pixal said.
A knock at the gate alerted the watch guard and his binoculars floated over.
"Oh, thanks." He said.
"Wait--" the watch guard was knocked out after an anacondrai reappeared from hiding and punched the guard's face. The gate was let open and another anacondrai slithered in.
The warden looked up. An inmate uniform was floating in front of his desk.
"That's strange."
"OooooOoooOooOooOOoo."
the warden raised his hand to push the alarm button but was stopped by the disappearing anacondrai.
"Ahah. So gullible." The anacondrai holding the inmate uniform reapeared.
"Everyone knows there's no such thing as ghosts." He took the keys.
"Then you get the spell book and I'll tell you their weakness and then--" Pythor was cut off from explaining his deal by an announcement.
"There's been a breach in sector two. They appear to be... A- anacondrai. And-- uh, oh. They're coming my way! They see me talking on the intercom. Oh, boy. Here they come! Why am I still talking on this thing?!"
All the inmates were cheering, banging on the doors.
"You led them to me? What have you done? There's no escaping an Anacondrai!" Pythor ran to the wardrobe but it was just a solid piece of wood.
"Curse this fraudulent furniture!" He grabbed a lamp shade and threw it over his head.
"Tell me! How do we stop them? What is their weakness?" Garmadon shouted.
"Don't you get it? There is no weakness! They're Anacondrai!" Pythor yelled.
"We may be able to fight off if you let go." Wu told Morro.
"No way. Not again." Morro said.
"Guys? We got company!" Kai shouted.
"I'll handle this!" Cole threw on his hood. He jumped up and punched the watch tower.
"Earth!" Cole made the bricks fly over to the anacondrai. One ducked while the other cut through to blades with it's sword. The bricks banged onto some prisoner's bars.
"We're trying to keep the inmates in, not let them out!" Jay shouted, as he and Kai came running up to Cole. Garmadon grabbed Pythor and pulled the lamp shade off his head. A drop of sweat from Pythor dropped onto Garmadon's hand and it shifted back to an anacondrai's.
"Your hand!" Zane exclaimed as Jay was thrown across the room.
"Your hand. That may be why they've come for Pythor. What if he holds the key to making their transformation permanent?" Zane suggested.
"That's why Chen hasn't attacked." Wu deduced.
"Then we have to get him out of here. If he's the key to preventing a war, we can't let him fall into the wrong hands. Literally." Lloyd flipped on his hood.
"Oh, I get it. It's literal because of my size. Haha, very funny. But I'm a little sensitive to all the size references." Pythor said.
"Oh, a little sensitive?" Morro asked.
"Okay, I stepped right into that one. Curse you."
"Zane, keep them busy." Wu instructed. Zane nodded and flipped on his hood.
"Argh!" Kai shouted, on top of an anacondrai.
"What do you think we've been do--" Kai was thrown away.
"Get out of here already! It's not like we can hold them all day!" Jay shouted, restricted by the anacondrai's tail.
Zane slide kicked to get Jay out of the hold. But then Zane was thrown across the room. The warden was able to hit the lock down button and the lock down program started.
"Kryptarium's on lockdown. If we don't find a way out, we may never escape." Garmadon started rushing towards the exit along either Wu and Lloyd.
"I'm coming with you! I'm not fighting those serpentine." Morro ran after them. The family slipped under the door.
Kai was hit away, Zane was grabbed in a neck hold, Cole was avoiding attacks and Jay was... Getting beat up.
"It ain't fair. Why is it they've got weapons but we don't?" Cole jumped back, avoiding the slash of an anacondrai blade.
"Everything's a weapon in the big house!" Jay reached through the bars of a cell and grabbed a tooth brush.
Jay pushed Zane aside and aggressively brushed the anacondrai's teeth.
"Oh, some heroes you are. And to think there's only two of them." Pythor rolled his eyes as Lloyd, Wu and Morro jumped over the spikes in the hall. Wu shut off the security defence.
Pythor was thrown over to Lloyd.
"Sensei Wu said the greatest victories--"
"Has no battle, blah, blah, blah. Well, if they're impostors, you're cowards." Pythor interrupted.
"Real or not, they look like anacondrai. I don't want to fight them." Morro said.
"And what about you?" Wu asked.
"There's a reason we never trust a snake." He threw his hat and shut off the spike ball defense.
"First the Anacondrai betray the truce in the Serpentine War, then the attack at the monastery, then you tricked Lloyd--" Wu was cut off.
"What attack on the monastery?" Garmadon asked.
"Oh, just the one where I my father and I almost got killed by an anacondrai if I didn't... Uh." Morro said.
"Didn't what?" Lloyd asked.
"Not important!" Morro shouted, jumping over the next obstacle.
"Are we still talking about the Serpentine War? The Anacondrai had every intention of honoring the truce. It was Chen who told us your kind was going to betray us." Pythor explained. Garmadon disarmed the laser wall either his tail.
"We had no other choice but to attack." Pythor said.
Wu lodged his staff between the two crushing walls letting everyone through.
"Chen said you were going to betray us!" Garmadon exclaimed.
"Ugh, sounds like Chen was playing both sides." Lloyd said.
"A manipulator for the war in general." Morro added.
The family made it to the court house of sports, or whatever. On top of the walls, more anacondrai warriors in mechs and hover copters.
"Again I say...cowards." Pythor said.
"Protect Pythor." Wu instructed.
"Ninja-go!!" Lloyd shouted, using spinjitzu to attack.
"Ah! I lost him!" Lloyd exclaimed, looking at his hand.
"GAAAAHHH!" Pythor shouted as fled from a large mech.
"What do you mean you lost him? Find him!" Garmadon hit away an anacondrai.
"Argh! Why did he have to get in the way of that pill?!" Morro shouted, flipping over the crowd.
. . .
"Fire!" Kai shouted, throwing flames. The anacondrai ducked and avoided.
"Lightning!" Jay electrocuted the snake. The spear was picked up by an inmate and opened all the cells. The ninja were backing up in the center as all the inmates started to close in.
"Uh, guys, I think we're about to serve some hard time!" Cole shouted.
The giant stone warrior that Lloyd beat using rock paper clam knowledge jumped down. The ninja were in for a real treat.

8 129No More Respawns
Synopsis: The first time Allen died, he was forced back into a living hell where death is temporary, and power is all that matters. With evil and depravity as the rule, tragedy becomes comedy and life becomes an act. Only a deal with a shady god can get him back to his old life, but what happens if there’s nothing left to save? Maybe hell isn’t so bad if you have infinite lives… until you don’t. Needless to say, it’s all fun and games until there’s no more respawns. Foreword: This story is meant primarily as an action adventure and secondarily as a dark and nihilistic comedy. It may not be readily apparent in the beginning, but that's what I have planned (I feel the need to emphasize the dark; don’t rage at me if it gets too ‘traumatizing’ or something). I’m going to take my time with this, so it won’t immediately inundate you with doom and gloom. This is also a comedy, remember? On that note, if for some cursed reason you just can't handle either the references or the jokes, I am willing to battle in the comments. Anyway, I still put a significant amount of effort into the system, so I hope you enjoy that part. It is a little bulky, I'll admit to that, but I wanted to try something new and its more fun when there's more depth to it. Regardless, I still have a lot of fun doing math in the middle of writing a fictional story (/s). I also want to see if I can keep from messing up the pacing. Many times, I end up going too fast because I'm afraid of the story getting boring, which tends to ironically have the opposite effect. I'm still learning I suppose; we'll see how things go. Lastly, please leave reviews and comments, they really mean a lot to me and (usually) help me improve considerably. I'll be asking for feedback in the polls and I do still check the old ones from time to time. Notes: The story takes a bit of time to develop; give it time if you're here for drama, grimdark, or antihero. The system is all blue boxes and I'm not half-assing the numbers. Chapters will be between 1k and 2k words usually. I always use the oxford coma, fight me. Might drop if rating falls below 4 stars, idk. It depends on how my life is going. Cover drawn by yours truly in MS paint. (I have skill, I know)

The day I was cast out of my home and family, for being different. For I am a Gatherer. There are other names for people of my profession, Soul Catcher, Reaper, none of them accurate. In my twenty-five years I have seen many horrors. I have seen other Gatherers cut down as they worked, people tortured and mutilated to strengthen the life force released. I have seen the aftermath of a troll attack, on humans and Eldritch alike. In death we are all equal. I fear my end and yet I welcome it as a release from my responsibilities. But I will not waver; I will strive to the last for I, Ryshel Huntress, am a Gatherer. And I know nothing else.
