《Brother of Wind {book 4: The Tournament of Elements}》chapter 15

Nya opened here eyes. She was cianed back to a pole in the middle of a chamber surrounded with skulls and bones. Nya yelped.
"Nya, are you all right?" Garmadon asked.
The samurai looked to her side. There were two other poles, one empty and one, Garmadon was chained to.
"Yes. What--What happened?" Nya asked, looking around.
"We have to get out of here." Garmadon pulled against the chains that blinded his wrists.
The door to the champed opened up and Morro was pushed in. Clouse pulled him towards the third pole in the room as Chen and Skylor walked in.
"Morro!" Nya shouted.
"Hi." Morro said in an enthusiastic but annoyed voice as his arms were pulled behind his back.
"What's the matter?" Morro asked Chen.
"I'm too good for your- Argh!!- for your fancy ceremonies?" Morro asked, shouting as his hands were pulled further.
"Hmpf. You escaped once. It would be bothersome if you ever had the chance to again." Clouse said, walking to the front.
"Ah, good to know I'm a pain." Morro grinned.
"Hahah. You are indeed." Chen said.
"Unfortunately, you will no longer have a chance to annoy me. As you know," Chen started.
"Only one ca--"
"Only one can remain, I know!" Morro shouted. Nya and Garmadon were debating making Morro stop talking to not aggravate Chen, but they both kept their mouths shut.
"Ah. You really are annoying. Here we go." Chen slammed his staff on the ground and a light blue wave flew over Morro.
The wind ninja dropped down to one knee and gritted his teeth.
"K-AAARGH!!" Morro yelled, the sage green aura being sucked out of him. He dropped to the ground. Completely drained of energy. Nya tried to get to him, but alas, the chains kept her restraint.
"No. Morro!" Nya cried.
"I'm okay, I'm okay. I think. I'm pretty sure." Morro propped himself up on one knee.
"My pet loves the smell of fear." Clouse smirked.
"Where is my son?" Garmadon demanded to know.
"What have you done with--"
"I have your son. But his power will become mine at the ceremony tonight. I'm sorry you didn't get an invite. I'm still a little hurt when my pupil decided to betray me so long ago." Chen glared at Garmadon.
"But how did you defeat him?" Nya asked.
"Oh, I had a little help." Chen said. Nya gasped as none other than her brother walked in. Kai held his head low, and spotted Morro kneeling on the ground. Morro glared at Kai and the spiky haired boy looked up.
"You pitted the ninja against themselves, just as you did the Elemental Masters." Garmadon exclaimed.
"You're no better than him." Morro motioned to Chen.
"Deceit, lies, using deception against your teammates." Morro narrowed his gaze at Kai.
"Why, Kai? How could you do this?" Nya shouted.
"Chen holds all the power. Lloyd alone never stood a chance. I had to think about what was best for us." Kai said.
"He'll let you go if--"
"I'd rather be snake food!" Nya screamed and it echoed in the chamber.
Garmadon jumped and grabbed Skylor, holding her in a head lock.
"Untie us!" He shouted. Chen and Clouse started laughing.
"Or what? You've changed, remember? You're Sensei Garmadon. You're a good guy. Threats don't frighten me." Chen snickered.
Garmadon's face went pale.
"Uncle," Morro said. Garmadon looked down at Morro.
"Let her go." Morro said as Skylor gasped for breath. Garmadon pushed Skylor away and she went to stand by Kai, rubbing her neck.

"My pet may be napping, but she's always hungry when she wakes up." Clouse said as a large gate opened up.
"You had a good run, Garmadon. Must I say, you too, Morro. But all good things must come to an end." Chen said as he left the room. Clouse followed, then Skylor.
"This isn't you, Kai. Don't do this." Nya pleaded.
"Sorry, sis. This is the way it has to be." Kai said, slowly leaving. Before he did, Kai turned back and winked at Nya over his shoulder. Nya and Garmadon's face lit up.
Kai waved his hand behind his back and threw Morro's retracted staff before he left. Nya was able to kick it up and toss it to Morro.
"He's still with us! Did you see that?" Nya exclaimed quietly.
"Then why'd he hit me so hard." Morro sighed, pushing himself against the pole to stand up.
"Have the factory prepare a feast in honor of the ceremony, Clouse. I'm in the mood for noodles." Chen told Clouse and he quickly parted away. Kai grabbed Skylor's hand to stay behind.
"This is how your father treats you? It doesn't have to be like this." Kai said.
"But he has the staff. There's nothing I can do about it." Skylor shrugged in response.
"But what if I can?" Kai convinced Skylor.
"Lloyd doesn't stand a chance alone, but if Chen trusts me, I can get close to the staff and then--"
"Why would you tell me this after I betrayed you?" Skylor asked.
"You spared me for a reason. And you know I'm far too fetching to resist." The red ninja winked.
. . .
Zugu approached the elemental masters working on the roto jet in the factory. Karlof whistled and Jay quickly threw the cover overtop to hide it before hiding away with Cole and Zane.
"Uh, please, almost done. Soon, noodle machine will be firing on all cylinders." Karlof pushed Zugu back.
"No, make now. Master Chen wants noodles for the big ceremony." Zugu said.
"What ceremony?" Griffin asked, adjusting his red tinted glasses.
"Chen defeated the last ninja. Now no one in Ninjago can stop us." Zugu laughed.
"Look at the bright side. At least all your jobs just became permanent."
Karlof ran in front of Zugu to stop him in his tracks.
"Uh, there's a few minor kinks." Karlof warned. Zugu laughed and pushed Karlof into a flour bin.
"Give me that sheet. Huh? That's not a noodle machine!" Zugu exclaimed, pulling the sheet off the reveal the jet.
"Uh, that's the kink. Now!" Karlof yelled. As he gave the signal Cole kicked a guard off the catwalk, jumping down into the jet's cockpit.
"Cole? He's here!" Zugu exclaimed as the jet started to turn and whirr.
"I'd get out of the way if I were you." Zane said, leaning in a crate.
The guard ran away as light bullets shot out of the roto jet's gun, firing all over the place. Cole destroyed machines and mechanics, blowing up crates and boxes. He almost hit multiple people.
. . .
"Just look at us. We're escorting the big dogs now." Chope sneered.
"Heh. Like I said, Kapau and Chope moving up the ranks." Kapau replied, pushing Lloyd to his place and scurrying to their own.
Kai walked up to Lloyd.
"Why would you help them?!" Lloyd said through his teeth.
"Don't worry." Kai started. Clouse walked over.
"It won't hurt! That much. Mue-heheheh... Uh." Kai patheticly imitated an evil laugh as he walked away.

For some reason, Lloyd believed it. Anyways--
"All right, first thing's first. Daughter!" Chen yelled, making Skylor jump. She looked back at Kai who nodded.
"I offer my power to you, Father." Skylor said. The wave of light flew over Skylor as she cried out. Kai reached his hand forwards as if he were to hold her.
"Only one can remain." Chen said, the orange aura flying out of Skylor and into the staff's crystal.
Nya tried to pull herself out of her chains to no success.
"Some help you are, Kai." Nya sighed.
"You thought we would give us more that just this." Morro said, looking at his staff in front of him.
"Be thankful he didn't give it to Chen. That took a while to make." Nya scoffed.
The large serpent crept out of it's passage way and raised up above the three.
"Morro, Nya, it's karma." Garmadon said.
"After personally destroying the biggest snake Ninjago has ever seen, it's only reasonable the second biggest would exact its revenge on me." Garmadon said.
The snake circled Garmadon, creeping it's eye right to his face, then circled Morro. The sage ninja pushed himself away from the snake. He wanted to get as far away as he could from that thing. Finally, the snake made up it's mind.
It rose up and faced Nya. It started to move in when an explosion behind lit up the room. Large boulders hit the chains and poles, letting the three go.
In came a roto jet and Cole firing like crazy. Cole hit above the snake and crushed it with a cave in.
"Woo-hoo! We did it!" Cole yelled, jumping out of the cockpit.
"Aha! Well, hello master of earth!" Garmadon exclaimed.
"Ah! Don't forget master of lighting!" Jay beamed.
Morro hand was grabbed as he got helped up.
"I'm fine, I don't need any--" Morro looked up.
"Zane!" He exclaimed, hugging the nindroid. Zane smiled.
"Oh, this is nice." Morro said.
"It is too to be here!" Zane said.
Nya got up from the ground and ran. Both Cole and Jay opened up their arms, but Nya ran right past them.
"Zane! You're back!" She yelled, jumping onto the shiny new nindroid.
"What? What is on my back?" Zane asked, turning his head around to check.
Everyone laughed. Zane still didn't understand jokes. Something's never change.
"Karlof, why isn't this thing off the ground yet?" Cole asked.
"Two hands can only work so fast." Karlof replied.
"Well you're gonna fix it. You know why?" Cole said.
"Sure."
"Positive thinking!" The elemental masters yelled.
. . .
Skylor dropped to the ground and held her head as she walked to the side.
"And now, for the final element!" Chen approached Lloyd.
Lloyd gasped. Kai quickly glanced away.
"Only one can remain!!" Chen slammed the staff on the ground, sucking the power out of Lloyd.
"AAAAAAARGH!!" Lloyd yelled, dropping down.
"Behold! Every Elemental Power, all in my control!" Chen exclaimed, showing off the staff.
"Do you feel the power? I do!" He shouted.
"All of you who bear the mark of the Anacondrai, it is time. We will shed our skins for new ones, and be the most powerful force in all of Ninjago!" Chen said. Clouse placed his hand on the staff, reading the spell book.
Kai nodded at Skylor.
"Father, let me stand beside you." Skylor waked up.
"Yes. Yes. Join me. After today, not only will Master Chen be Ninjago's number one noodle house, but Ninjago's number one ruler!" Chen yelled, embracing Skylor.
"Hey, Chen!" Kai yelled. They faced Kai.
"You forgot one element. The element of surprise!" Kai shouted. Skylor kicked the staff away from Chen. Kai kicked away Eyezor off the platform.
"You betray me?!" Chen growled at Skylor.
"Runs in the family!" Skylor yelled kicking Chen down.
Kai jumped and rolled to get the staff.
"Get him!" Chen yelled. Two guards blinded Skylor, but Kai used lighting to shock them away. He then freed Lloyd from the chains.
"That was all an act?!" Lloyd shouted.
"Don't worry. I had it all under control. Well, almost." Kai said.
Clouse pulled a lever and green acid dropped down from the snake statue overtop Lloyd. Kai threw his arm forwards and a green barrier of energy surrounded Lloyd, protecting him.
"Ice!" Kai yelled, freezing Clouse into a solicitor ice cube.
Eyezor was running up when he fell down a trap door. Kai looked to his left to see Skylor holding a lever. Trap doors, huh.
After that... Well, Kai started to feel something. Like an infection crawling up his hands and into his body. But it felt good, and it felt powerful. Like nothing Kai had ever felt before.
"Hurry, Kai! You must destroy the staff!" Lloyd ran up to the red ninja.
"Chen was right!" Kai exclaimed, pulling away from Lloyd.
"This thing's awesome!"
Kai used the power inside the staff to blow away the cultists.
"Kai! It holds too much power! Destroy it!" Lloyd yelled. Kai's eyes turned red and filled with rage.
"The power is corrupting him!" Lloyd said as Skylor ran to him.
"If we don't get that staff out of his hands--"
"No one is taking my staff!!" Kai shouted, his voice sounding distorted. His eyes turned a vibrant red and seemed to glow almost. Lloyd and Skylor backed up in fear.
"You had all that power. Now it's my turn!!" Kai shouted. His eyes shifted back to the normal colour.
"Ah, what am I saying?" He asked himself. Kai's eyes turned red again.
"Nothing I don't already feel!!"
"Yes. Yes... Embrace the power!" Chen watched from afar.
"I can't-- I can't control it! I don't want to control it!!" Kai turned back to Lloyd.
"I SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE GREEN NINJA!!" The staff lit up with the powers.
"No, Kai! Don't!!" Lloyd yelled. There was a loud explosion and the snake statue fell down. Luckily, everyone avoided being crushed.
In flew the roto jet and the elemental masters.
"Did anyone order some kung-pao?!" Cole shouted, opening the cockpit latch. Even without their elements, the alliance had regained their strength and could fight well.
Nya, Morro, Garmadon and Jay flipped down to join the fight. Zane grabbed a warrior and spun him around, throwing the guy onto others. Zane stopped spinning and held his head back in place.
"Zane! Good to see you again, buddy!" Lloyd exclaimed.
"And it's good to be back!" Zane shouted with glee.
Kai helped himself up. He saw the fighting, and the staff lying on the ground. Kai was free of that power, but he needed to get rid of it for good. Chen raced to get it, but Kai was not far behind.
He jumped and rolled, Kai just barely managing to grab the staff. The power just crept up Kai's hands again, but the ninja was ready in motion. Kai swung the staff up, and threw it to the ground.
"No!!" Chen cried.
Kai smashed the crystal and streams.of colour flew through the air. Each on went back to their master as it restored their power and clothes, giving a fresh new start.
Kai's flames, returned to his fists, burning bright as his hood was flipped on. Cole raised his arms, the strength filling up inside him as the ground shook from the black ninja's landing.
"Haha!" Jay yelled, flipping his hood on as sparks filled his hands, ready to strike with his lighting. Zane's hands glowed with light blue ice, his titanium figure chilling with the cold.
Lloyd's hands glowed green. The energy filled his body and ran through him. Morro lifted his hands, a cool breeze blew around his feet as he landed.
Karlof put on a sheet of metal around him.
"Now bad guys in big trouble!" Karlof shouted.
The ninja regrouped. They raised their hands.
"NINJA-GO!!!" They yelled, all pulling their hands down. The boys spun into six coloured spinjitzu tornadoes, pushing back Chen's forces.
"It always brings tears to my eyes when I see the old gang back together." Nya said to a warrior who stepped back either his hands up.
The battle was almost finished and Garmadon walked to the side. Foot prints made from a water pool tracked to a hidden door.
"Ugh, they have all the power!" Chen yelled.
"For now, Master. But not for long." Clouse said. A few guards were brought with them as Skylor remailed tied up, looking glum.
. . .
The gates opened to reveal the sun shine. The rest of Chen's servants were tuned up and brought outside.
"No sign of Chen. And no sign of Skylor." Garmadon informed. Kai sighed.
"it weren't for her help, we wouldn't have control of the island. We'll find her, brother." Nya reassured.
"It's funny. I came here to find an old friend..." Kai turned to the ninja. Zane flipped his funny switch.
"Hello, my baby, hello, my honey, hello, my rag time gal!!!"
"...I just never thought we'd make new ones." Kai sighed at the elemental alliance.
"We'll find her, Kai. And we'll find Chen." Garmadon said. In the mean time, Kai left for the ninja to have a good time.

What seems like an innocent game trope turns into a nightmare. This is a story of tragedy and the path to ultimate power. All in the hopes of an uncertain survival. _________ This fiction has NOT been abandoned. I made a haughty promise earlier to not worry because I'll continue this series, and with things lately, I've only proved myself a liar. Further promises dwindled, and I've lost trust. So many things have been going on recently that I've been booked. I will refrain from making any future guarantees or promises as my busy schedule will stay with me for a long long while. Time for me to actually spend on writing and revising won't appear until at the least November 19. I won't say expect that's when I'll restart, but you can expect expecting it to maybe happen. That's really shallow. But with everything going on, I've let my small reading base down. I apologize. I still stick by my statement though that I won't abandon this project. I plan to stick it to the end, no matter the delay. Most importantly, thank you everyone; readers who both like and dislike my work. I appreciate your time spent on my dumb imagination. Stay toasty my readers in this winter season. Cheers. UPDATE: We're back on track. Thank you for your patience. Any future readers, heyo! Glad you're here. UPDATE 2: So far it's been 21 days since I last uploaded a chapter. The best thing done for any fiction, no matter how good it is, is that it continues, and I have a bad history with that. 1 fiction on hiatus and already more delays with less than 20 chapters in this fiction. I've been very preoccupied with adding more things to do in my life rather than actually committing to any particular thing. That applies primarily to this. I cannot abandon this, as busy as my future looks and will look as I get busier and busier. Someday, I hope, I will be able to sit down and just write. just. write. But for now, I ask for patience. I suppose I'm glad this fiction hasn't picked up so that I don't disappoint too many people if any really. But I need to commit and it's going to happen sometime and sometime soon. No more flowery words. I'll see you later. UPDATE 3: It's very evident I won't be able to pick up this story for a while. With AP Testing, competitions, and other things I am busier than ever. But I must complete this fiction. I have too. Until next time. UPDATE 4: It is now the summer. I owe everyone an apology. Chances are, nobody's around to see this, and that is okay. I only blame myself for this sort of brokenness of a fiction, not that it is actually that bad but I am just exaggerating it for dramatic effect. But what's not exaggerated is the severity of my broken promise. I apologize for my naive claims about finishing a novel that I couldn't finish and that I didn't have the discipline to finish. Nor the skills, really, I was and am still an immature writer. What is to place now? I want to make it clear I understand this is my fault. I will man up to this. And I will accept any criticism. I understand I messed up. Reading Stephen King's On Writing made it clear to me that I need to do two things:Read lots. And write lots.I have done neither. If I don't have the time to read often, how do I expect to write? I need to become more experienced. I need to become a serious writer. So if I want to dream of continuing, I need to at least fulfill both requirements. I enjoy writing. I haven't written seriously outside of school in a while. I planned to write this summer and finish this. I made a lot of promises that I didn't keep.So there's that. I won't enact any self-pity, or be foolishly obsessed. What I did was wrong, and I must deal with it. I let down readers. And I apologize.I hope I can find forgiveness. This is a writer's sin.I won't promise I'll finish this. I intend to finish this, at some point, because writing is fun and I want to write. But how things are don't reflect that. Maybe I'll finish this at some point. Maybe I won't. I won't be naive to make that promise.I thank everyone who has read this if this is the end. If not, and hopefully not, I thank everyone who is to read future chapters. I thank everyone who allowed me to live in the miniscule little dream of mine as I passed my days. I thank everyone who cares enough to read this. Until next time, peace everyone. Thank you. You are all great readers and great people. I wish everyone the best in whatever reading/writing endeavors follow you henceforth.
