《Brother of Wind {book 4: The Tournament of Elements}》chapter 12

The round started on a blip. The remaining fighters were in the air, high above the island. Tensions were high between everyone. Jay was sus of everyone.
Lloyd was trying not to make contact, Kai was staring at the floor, Morro was longingly looking out the window and Garmadon was deep in thought.
"What are you looking at, Zippy?" Jay glared at Griffin who was eyeing the blue ninja.
"The next one out of the tournament." Griffin replied.
"Why so scared to show us your back, Shadow?" Kai pressed.
"Worried we're gonna find a tattoo and know you're working for Chen?" Kai said.
"I hope this next fight is between you and me, because I'm gonna put you on your back." Shade shot out.
"Tensions are high." Garmadon observed.
"Figuratively? Or literally. I prefer the second." Morro said with a soft smile, gazing at the clouds.
"We can hardly see the island from here. What do you suppose we're doing?" Lloyd asked.
"Ah, I've had enough of this." Neuro stood up and made his way to the piloting area.
"I can't stand heights. Where's Chen?" Neuro opened the piloting door to find no one there. He inhaled through his teeth in worry.
Chen's image showed up on the screen.
"How do I know if this thing's on? Oh, oh, oh, I see, the light. Oh, oh, I'm on? Right now?" Chen fiddled on the other side of the screen. The masters gathered to see.
"Ahem, ahem. Hello, final eight. I see you are all eager for the tournament to commence so one of you can win my Staff of Elements. Instead of fighting for a Jadeblade, today you will be fighting for something different." Chen announced. The video changed to see a girl with shoulder length black hair and red samurai armour.
"Nya!" Kai exclaimed.
"You know her?" Skylor asked.
"That's my sister." Kai replied.
"We have an uninvited guest on the island." Chen started.
"And she must be holding the proof that will stop Chen." Kai went on.
"Find her and you will automatically move on..."
"The spell he plans to use when he takes our powers." Kai said.
"...to the final round!" Chen yelled.
"He wants us all to hunt her down? She won't stand a chance." Jay said.
"Then we have to find her before anyone else does." Lloyd finished, flipping on his hood.
"Let's hope that we can. Knowing Nya, she can stay hidden." Morro flipped on his hood.
"In ten seconds, the bottom will drop." Chen explained. Everyone gasped.
"But to show you I'm not a bad man, I've given you eight parachutes." Chen went on. Eight parachutes dropped down from the top compartment in the passenger are. The masters rushed to the parachutes.
"Sensei Garmadon is there? Shoot, that makes nine. Oh, well, I was never good at math. Heh. Toodle-oo." Chen finished his video.
The bottom slowly opened up.
"That guy's love for trapdoors is seriously GETTING ON MY NERVES!!" Lloyd yelled. The bottom fully opened up and the drop commenced.
Everyone flew in different directions, the parachutes flying away from reach. Shade was able to grab one. Jay looked to his side to see the green ninja flailing in the air.
"Lloyd! Use your energy dragon!" Jay yelled. Lloyd tried, but he failed.
"I can't!" Lloyd yelled.
"I can't get it to work!"
Skylor got a parachute, so did Griffin. Jay fell onto Griffin's net and slid off.
"Get your own shute, lead foot!" He yelled.
"Jay!!" Morro yelled. The blue ninja looked up to see a parachute falling his way.
"Got it! Thanks!" Jay opened it up, holding it like a stuffed animal. Morro had a chute, but he didn't open it yet. Lloyd was just in reach of one.
"Your powers don't work because you aren't controlling your fear. Focus. Control your fear. Don't let it control you. Center yourself." Garmadon coached. Lloyd accidentally kicked himself away from the chute, far away from it.
Kai got one, but Neuro charged at him, stealing it away. Kai used his powers to propelled himself towards the chute that Lloyd kicked away from and opened it.
"There's only one parachute left." Kai said, looking down and.
The father and son grabbed onto the last one.
"We'll share!" Lloyd said.
"They're only built for one. This is an easy decision." Garmadon said. Lloyd took a deep breath.
"Then hopefully I chose correctly." He pulled the string and the parachute opened up, Garmadon on it. Morro opened his chute beside him.
"What is he doing?" Morro asked.
"Morro! Save my son! I fear he won't find his center in time to reach the ground!" Garmadon cried. Morro started to grab his glider.
"No, not that! You know what I mean!" Garmadon yelled. Morro glanced down. He sighed. And let go of his chute.
Diving down to Lloyd, Morro tucked his staff in his belt. The wind ninja grabbed Lloyd with his right hand and pulled him upwards.
"What?" Lloyd asked with little shock. Morro went into a kneeling position, placing his left hand out.
Sage green glowing wings spread away from Morro's hand, as the rest of the figure formed.
Kai and Jay looked down and their jaws dropped.
"What the--" Kai started.
"Since when did he--" Jay stuttered.
"WHEN DID MORRO HAVE A DRAGON!?!?!?" The two yelled.
A glowing dragon appeared from thin air, an aura like when Morro used his full potential. Morro pulled Lloyd closer and the green ninja grabbed Morro's shoulders and braced himself.
The dragon pulled up, Morro holding a rein with his left hand as he knelt down on the body of the dragon. A swift landing later, and Lloyd steadily got off as Morro dispelled his dragon. Jumping down, Morro shook his hands a little, sighing.
Nya looked up to see blue parachutes falling.
"This doesn't look good." She said to herself. Nya turned around and ran.
Everyone landed in different areas. Kai was by a volcano, still a little shaken from another one of Morro's secrets being revealed. He just barely escaped the lava. Jay landed in a tree and fell on his back.
"Ah, that did not feel good." Jay sighed.
Shade walked around for a bit when he found a bow and arrow.
"Hail, combatants, I have left a few treats to help you in the hunt. I hope you use them wisely." Chen announced from speakers placed on the trees. Shade snatched up the bow and quiver of arrows and ran off.
"Clouse, why have I never had a mobile base? It's my new favorite toy. Hoo, hoo. There's so many buttons and surprises." Chen exclaimed, playing with the stolen D.B. express.
"Like I'll ever trust a treat from you, Chen!" Jay scoffed.
"Ouch, ouch, ouch!" Each step he took pained his leg. Jay looked to his right. A big electro mech was just sitting there.
"Okay, maybe just a small treat. Ouch, ouch, ouch!" Jay eventually jumped in the mech.

"Welcome, Master of Lightning." The colour of the mech shifted to blue.
"Aah. Suddenly, my leg feels much better! I'm on my way, Nya!" Jay yelled.
Morro gripped his writs and played with his hand a little. The master of wind looked up and jumped back a bit by Lloyd's expression.
"SINCE. WHEN. DID. YOU. HAVE. THAT?!" Lloyd yelled.
"Hey, keep it down. We don't want others to find us." Morro sushed.
"When." Lloyd said.
"Since I was around 7 or 8...?" Morro hesitantly said.
Garmadon found his way to the brothers.
"Did you know he had!!" Lloyd zipped around to his father. Garmadon nodded. Lloyd was in disbelief.
"And you've only decided to use it now." Lloyd turned back to Morro. Morro shrugged. Lloyd took a deep breath.
"We'd better start looking." Lloyd said.
"If we're going to find Nya before the others do, we got a lot of ground to cover." Garmadon said.
"Look, Nya's footprints." Lloyd pointed.
"Hmm, Nya is more clever than that. No, she wants everyone to follow these tracks." Garmadon said observing the steps.
"And she's want us to see this." Morro pointed to a tree with a carving on it.
"The samurai x symbol.
Lloyd took another deep breath.
"I can give you a lift now." Lloyd said making a small light in his hand.
"Save your energy. It's best not to draw attention." Garmadon said.
"I'll run ahead. I'll be following the symbols, don't worry. Less people, less attention." Morro ran off, following Nya's symbol.
"Come on." Garmadon called for Lloyd.
. . .
"Nya, come in. Dareth? Can anyone read me?" Misako desperately called from the samurai x cave.
"Still no word?" Wu asked, coming up with some tea.
"Ah, nothing. We've lost all communication." Misako said.
"How can you be so calm? My husband, my son are out there all alone." She said.
"As are my brother and my son. My pupils as well." Wu replied.
"But we must not let fear cloud our thinking. Sensei Garmadon is there to guide them through this. I have to believe so." Wu said.
. . .
"Still no sign of Cole and that metal man?" A guard asked down in the factory.
"They still haven't escaped the island. We'll find them. Search the labyrinth and lock this place down." Zugu said, leaving with the other guards.
Karlof looked behind him as the door shut.
"All clear."
Zane and Cole popped out of barrels. Cole was covered in flour again.
"Okay, back to our plan to all of us getting out of here." Cole started.
Zane projectes a network of sewers. "Now, if we all tried to tackle the labyrinth, some of us would be sure to get lost, so that's not an option. But Zane here, he analyzed the sewer network." Cole said.
"Sewer network? Isn't that stinky?" Karlof asked.
"Hey, I'd blast my way out of here if I could, but all of our powers are gone." Cole defended his plan.
"The sewer network is old and can only sustain so much weight. But after adding up all of our combined masses, the pipes will hold by the slimmest of margins." Zane said.
"Did anyone else understand that?" Karlof asked.
"He means it'll work." Cole six.
"It'll work!" Everyone repeated in glee.
The door opened up and someone new that thrown in. Dareth.
"Get to work!" The guard yelled, slamming the door behind him.
"Don't worry, boys. The Brown Ninja's here. But before I rescue you, can anyone show me how to make a puffy potsticker?" Dareth scanned the area.
"Cole, you're here. And Zane. Is that you? Boy, have you changed."
"When metal friend say slimmest of margins, how slim?" Karlof asked.
"Ugh, it won't work. Back to the drawing board." Cole mentally threw his plan away. Zane sighed.
. . .
"You said before that Master Chen was your Sensei, but nothing else." Lloyd said to his father as the continued down the path.
"Son, there are things from my past that I am not proud of. Perhaps it's time for you to know the truth." Garmadon sighed.
"After the Devourer bit me when I was a child, it took years for all of the evil to fully consume me." Garmadon started to explain.
In a monastery similar to where the ninja had originally trained, a young Garmadon and a young Clouse held wooden swords as they dueled in the courtyard. Garmadon jumped onto a training device and ran on it, avoiding the obstacles. Clouse ran after him and the two eventually fell to the ground.
Garmadon jumped on top of Clouse to pin him down, but the young sorcerer was persistent.
"Good Garmadon. Good Clouse." A man with bright red hair and a black gi walked out. Chen.
"But you're both holding back. Might I add he who wins this fight shall become my right hand and be granted lordship?" Chen sneered.
Clouse kicked Gamradon off of him and he slammed into the training equipment. Clouse used his magic to bring the plank pillars to life and attack Garmadon. With no other choice, the young Garmadon used his spinjitzu and a purple tornado appeared, destroying the equipment and knocking Clouse off his feet.
"He cheated, Master. You told us Spinjitzu was forbidden!" Clouse cried as Garmadon gazed down on him.
"He did what he had to do to win. Congratulations, Lord Garmadon." Chen said as Garmadon smiled at his triumph.
"It was a time in our history when man and Serpentine were not getting along. As our sides clashed, we hoped for a truce. But not Chen."
"Oh, peace is so boring, but conflict and turmoil is so unpredictable and exciting." Chen said, looking at a map of Ninjago.
"But, Master Chen, even the Anacondrai are making concessions." Garmadon said.
"There could be a truce. There could be—"
"Never trust a snake, Lord Garmadon. Remember that. Oh, don't look so sad. I've intercepted something that will make you feel better." Chen pulled out a small envelope.
"A love letter. Apparently your pathetic brother feels the same about that girl you admire." He placed the envelope on the table. Garmadon gasped.
"Misako."
"His words are so heartfelt. They could sway how she feels about one of you." Chen said. Garmadon started to read what Wu had written.
"I didn't write this. I shouldn't be reading it." Garmadon held the letter away from his face.
"Didn't you? It could be your name on it. Certainly you feel the same." Chen pushed a quill Garmadon's way.
Garmadon hesitantly grabbed the quill and wrote his name as Clouse watched behind the door.
~ ~ ~
"Mom thought that letter was from you!" Lloyd exclaimed.
"As I've told you, there are things in my past I'm not proud of, but I have no regrets. You wouldn't be here otherwise." Garmadon said.
"My fear of losing Misako controlled me and led me down a dangerous path. A path I hope to one day make peace with."
. . .
"Master, if our men couldn't find her, why do you think they will fare much better? If the girl gets that spell to the ninja, all of our plans will be jeopardized." Clouse said as Chen fiddled with all the buttons kn the stole D.B. express.
"Oh, Clousey Clouse. There's a reason why I'm the Master and you're my pupil. Why should I worry about the remaining fighters rising up against me, when after today there'll be no fighters remaining?" Chen playfully said.
"The little treats I gave them are tracking their every move. This little game isn't about them hunting the girl, it's about hunting them." Chen laughed, spinning around in his chair.
"Master, you are a devious one." Clouse said, sharing the laugh.
. . .
Lloyd clenched his fist.
"Have another question, son?" Garmadon asked.
"I don't know if I should ask, but I know Morro won't give me an answer." Lloyd started.
"He said he got kidnapped. Uhm..." Lloyd trailed off.
"You want to know what happened." Garmadon said. Lloyd nodded.
"Hmpf. It is true Morro would not give you an explination, I might as well do the best I can to tell." Garmadon sighed.
"After I had mailed the letter, I returned to Chen's monastery."
Young Garmadon walked down the halls, clearly conflicted about his actions. He heard small tapping coming from a room. Curious, Garmadon opened the door to find a small boy with a sage green gi, black hair and a strange green streak.
"Morro?" Garmadon asked. The little boy stumbled back a bit. He made a little smile. Garmadon walked in the room, shutting the door behind him.
"What are you doing here?" Garmadon asked.
"Not by choice, if that's what you wanted." Morro replied. Garmadon tilted his head in annoyance.
"Okay, I was kidnapped." Morro said.
"I need to get back! Sensei was going to test me for the green ninja tomorrow." Morro exclaimed.
"Really? Shouldn't he be looking for you now?" Garmadon asked.
"I spend all most of my time outside the monastery, so no. The guy with the magic put a spell on here, I can't get out." Morro said.
Garmadon thought a while. He didn't want Morro to be involved with Chen's antics.
"Wait until night, then escape. I will make sure Clouse's enchantments are dispelled." Garmadon said leaving the room.
~ ~ ~
"You helped him escape?" Lloyd said.
"I made sure Clouses's spells were inactive, but I don't know how Morro escaped himself. I did not see him leave." Garmadon said.
"He does know how to hide." Lloyd said with a little shrug.
. . .
Nya ran fast. Shade was after her. The samurai lived into a bush to just escape.
Shade ran pretty far behind, but came to a stop at the sound of the tournament jingle river the speaker.
"Your time in this tournament has expired." Clouse said walking up with a few warriors.
"So the ninja were right all along. Chen was never gonna hand over that staff." Shade narrowed his gaze.
"Only one can remain. And it will be Chen!" Clouse yelled.
Nya watched in terror as the warriors apprehended Shade. She had to find the ninja and quick.

However, this also means that the further you read, the more connections will begin linking up and the more the story will start building up.OP MC: The MC in this novel is extremely powerful from the very beginning. If this appeals to you, then check this novel out.Crafting/Farming Warning: This is a warning to say that if you are looking for a novel that focuses entirely on a crafting system or farming, then I have to say that this novel does eventually move on from the whole farming premise, getting much larger in scope overall.===Doever Writing Quality Guarantee===I can give a solid guarantee that the writing quality of this novel is of the highest tier on this website. Even though I would like to go through many of the initial chapters for a proofread, I still believe the writing quality is top notch for this website. There will be very few mistakes, and the few that do slip by me will not affect readability at all. Now, you may not agree with how the novel develops, but I can at the least guarantee that you will have no trouble actually reading what happensOf course, I am not perfect, so please feel free to point out mistakes and problems and I will be more than happy to fix them! But most importantly, whether you have criticisms or enjoy the book, thanks for reading!

But when an object of great and malevolent power promises to make good on all the promises the mages broke to him Mar is thrust into the world of magic. Mar will find that fate had something more than a life confined to the library planned for him after all. Authors Notes: I consider this to be a comming-of-age Sword and Sorcery story based mostly on the style of classic western fantasies. So if that's your thing then I encourage you to take a peek. Something I want to mention though is that the main character starts of pretty wimpy, and that might not be your thing. That being said, if you stick with him he's got a long way to grow. Also, while this version of the story is meant to be fully readable, more dicerning readers may want to wait until I move out of rough draft phase. There may be some inconsistancies with character and plot while I am still in the rough draft phase. I'm sorry for this, but this is my first web novel and from what I've read the best way to get a good novel out is to write write write, and then edit ruthlessly after you're finished with the book, so that's the plan I'm going to follow. Again, this is a rough draft. Everything you are reading is subject to change, including the name, title, and cover photo. This may no longer be the case once I've decided I know where this fiction is going and I have a reasonable understanding of the characters and their behavior. You're reading what comes off my keyboard as it's made, with very limited editing. There will be mistakes in the text. I do a quick spell check to take out the worst of the errors, but there will be some I miss. You can point them out in the comments if they are particularly confusing or glaring and I will try to fix them, however I am not overly concerned about minor errors as this is not the final draft by any means.
