"Nya! Where are you?!!" Kai yelled. The search for his sister continued. A small noise of foot steps was heard behind Kai.
"Nya? Is that you?" He whisked around to see. No response.
Kai lit his hand up with fire.
"Whoever's there, I'm fired up!" Kai yelled. An orange gi poked out from behind a tree.
"It's just me." Skylor said.
"Oh." Kai shook the fire out of his hand.
"I see you didn't pick up any of Chen's special treats either." Kai said.
"Of course not, like I'd ever trust him. And I wanna find her to help you get the spell and stop Chen once and for all." Skylor said.
"Maybe we should be together." Kai said the immediately rethought his words.
"Aah, that didn't come out right, heh. I mean, it's a big island, so maybe if we were a couple—Arrgh! No. Uh, heh. What I'm trying to say, is, um..." Kai trailed off.
"You want me to help you find your sister. Of course, I'll follow you." Skylor said.
"Heh. It's good to work with people you trust." Kai sighed.
"Yes, I couldn't agree more."
. . .
"Two fighters down, six remaining." Clouse said, walking in the mobile base with Neuro restrained.
"Chen. You won't get away with this!" Neuro glared at him.
"Are you serious? Where have you been? I've been getting away with it time and time again. Oh, take him away, he's boring." Chen shooed.
Clouse handed the master off to Eyzor, the head warrior.
"Arrgh. You'd think they'd create a trapdoor in this thing." Chen fiddled with the buttons.
"Master, Skylor is with Kai." Clouse said.
"Good!" Chen said.
"But we still don't know where Morro, Lloyd and Garmadon are." Clouse said.
"Bad! Find them, Clouse. While you're at it, round up the rest of them." Chen said.
. . .
"
Father, I don't understand. You trained under Chen, yet you fought beside Wu in the wars. What happened to the truce?" Lloyd asked, going back to the serpentine wars.
"When Chen said 'Never trust a snake,' he was right." Garmadon said.
"A few weeks after I helped Morro escape, the Serpentine struck first."
The serpentine tribes of all attack ked Jamonacai village. Flames at the base of buildings as people were fleeing.
"The alliance of the Elemental Masters fought back."
The masters of fire, water and shadow stood atop a roof. The fire elemental and water elemental shot their powers at the serpentine, pushing them down. Shadow disappeared into the dark then kicked a few warriors back, reappearing. The water elemental clapped her hands then raised the water out of the fountain onto the fires around the village.
"But they had never seen the likes of an Anacondrai warrior."
The purple snakes charged, swords in hand as they clashed against the water master's sheild.
"They were bigger, smarter, natural leaders on the battlefield."
A group of people armed with weapons ran into the field, fighting. The swords clashed but the anacondrai pushed them back.
"The Anacondrai were a proud tribe who fought with every ounce of venom. There was no greater warrior in the land. And with them in command, they proved to be too much for the alliance to handle."
The serpentine warriors raised their swords on the captured people of the village.

"Charge!!" The master of gravity yelled, keeping himself in the air with his power.he flew through the crowd of serpentine, a large one, the one Clouse called "pet" hissed at the master.
"We've taken the village, General Arcturus." The venomari general bowed.
"Good. Only one can remain." Arcturus said menacingly.
"Chen stood to gain more if he sided with the snakes and wanted me to help him. Though the evil in my veins tempted me, I wouldn't fight a war for him."
Garmadon's eyes turned red for a second when he shooke it off.
"I would only fight to see Misako again. From then on, Chen and I went our separate ways so that I could join my brother in battle."
Garmadon hesitantly looked back at Chen's monastery, or whatever he would call it. The young Garmadon walked away.
"We were the sons of the First Spinjitzu Master. And together, with the Elemental Alliance, we stood a fighting chance."
In the birch wood forest, the elemental alliance marched in the snow, Wu and Garmadon at the front. The Anacondrai gathered just before an invisible line.
"WRAAAH!!" Garmadon yelled, running to battle.
The two sides collided and the anacondrai started to fall back. The master of fire threw his flames forwards when the master of gravity stopped the line of motion.
"But Chen's influence changed all that. He found a way to turn the alliance against each other."
The master of gravity changed the weight of the rocks below, rising them up and at the alliance. The anacondrai turned around and charged again.
"The battle was all but lost. But in our darkest hour, we found hope. And hope found a way to end the war."
Garmadon stopped at a small village he saw a snake charmer using a flute to sway the small serpent into being more docile.
Riding upon dragons, the elemental masters split up, each with flutes that could pierce the ears of the serpentine, disarming them.
The water elemental played the flute to free a small group of hostages from the venomari.
"The Serpentine were divided and locked away in tombs."
The water master sealed up the venomari as the fire master sealed up the anacondrai with a familiar snake the ninja could all recognize today.
"Chen and Clouse were exiled."
The two men were forced onto a ferry with the elemental masters forcing them. I'm a court house, a gavel was slammed into it's post.
"We ask for mercy." Arcturus pleaded.
"Mercy? Never heard of it!" Mystaké exclaimed. Garmadon looked to his brother. Wu nodded of approval and Garmadon opened a spell book. He recited a chant.
"And the Anacondrai generals were given the strictest sentence: banishment to the Cursed Realm so that they will never set foot in Ninjago again."
~ ~ ~
"Even after all this time, you never told Wu about your past with Chen?" Lloyd asked.
"What would I have said?" Garmadon asked.
"I would have lost your mother, as well as my brother, your cousin, not to mention—"
"Someone once told me you need to control your fear, and not let fear control you." Lloyd smirked, jumping over a fallen tree.
"Hm, you're right. Once we put all of this behind us, I'll make things right. But first, we need to find Nya. Come on." Garmadon said.
. . .
Cole scribbled on a paper and after a few seconds, crumpled it up and threw it behind him.

"Arrgh. Okay, so maybe rolling ourselves up into giant egg rolls isn't the best plan. Anyone else have another idea?" Cole asked, sitting on top of a conveyer belt.
"Karlof used to be aeronautical engineer back in Metalonia. Work on Roto Jets. Just one could take out entire army." Karlof said.
"Oh, great idea. But two things: we don't have a Roto Jet, and what good is a jet if we're underground!?" Cole yelled. The conveyer belt started moving and Cole fell off.
"Okay, don't mind me, carry on whatever important business you're all doing." Dareth said, holding a spare lightbulb in his hands.
"Sure, we were only using that to hatch our escape. Dareth, what are you doing?" Cole asked.
"Well, if there isn't a machine that makes puffy potstickers, by golly I'm gonna make one." Dareth replied.
"That's it! Dareth, you've solved it." Zane exclaimed.
"How are puffy potstickers gonna help us?" Cole inquired.
"We'll use machine parts to build the Roto Jet. Karlof, do you still remember the schematics of it?" Zane asked.
"Of course." Karlof said.
"Then it's set. Karlof and I will create a blueprint. Everyone else, find parts." Zane instructed. Everyone scattered to look.
"But we're underground!" Cole yelled.
. . .
"Wrists tired. Must keep looking." Jay said, making his way through the jungle in his electro mech. Jay looked down and saw the samurai x symbol.
"Ah! Nya!" Jay exclaimed.
"I'm sorry, your search ends here. Your time in the tournament is over!" Clouse said, his hands full of dark magic. He shot Jay back and vines started to wrap around him. Thanks to the mech, Jay was able to get back up.
"Magic's for wussies. I'll stick to good old nuts and bolts with a little ingenuity." Jay scoffed. He fired charges at Clouse.
"You want ingenuity? Try this on for size!" Clouse created a stone mech to use against Jay.
"Magic versus nuts and bolts." Clouse said.
Clouse struck first, punching Jay's left wing on the mech, with Jay quickly countering.
Nya was carving another sign when she hear Jay.
"Ha! Is that all the hocus-pocus you got?"
"Jay? Jay!" Nya yelled.
"Nya! I've got my hands full at the moment. Did you find the spell?" Jay asked.
"Yes, it's right here!" Nya exclaimed. The fighting was too lough to hear anything though.
"Chen plans to use everyone's Elemental Powers to--"
"What!?" Jay yelled.
"Silence, girl!" Clouse yelled. He threw a boulder at Nya.
"Go, Nya! Tell the others! I can't hold him for long!" Jay yelled. Nya quickly ran off.
Clouse ripped out the wires of Jay's mech.
"Primary power obstructed. Automatic self-detonation in five, four--"
"Hehe, that's unfortunate." Jay said.
"Three, two--"
A large explosion.
"Aah! That could be Nya! Come on!" Kai told Skylor. He started to jump on the stone a to cross the river.
"Let me, I have a faster way." Skylor's hand lit up with light blue frost. Kai gasped.
Skylor froze the river and started to glide across it.
"What are you waiting for? Your friends could be in trouble." Skylor said, waiting for Kai.
"How did you just do that?" Kai asked, just barely standing on the ice.
"I can absorb Elemental Power." Skylor said.
"But the ice. Zane's never been in the tournament." Kai said.
He had a moment. And Kai could barely believe it.
"You're the spy! You've seen Zane! You're working for Chen!" Kai yelled. Skylor stepped back, her shoulders raising.
"I had to obey my father or else--"
"Chen's your father?!" Kai slipped on the ice.
"Yesssss!!" Chen exclaimed, appearing it if smoke.
"AAAAHH!" Kai pushed himself away startled.
"And now your time in the tournament is over, Master of Fire." Chen announced.
"Take him, Skylor!"
"Okay, dad." Skylor ran to Kai. The ninja jumped up and just avoided Skylor's attack. She went for a kick, Kai caught her leg, pushing her away. Kai pinned Skylor down by her shoulder.
"Morro was right to suspect you! The reason you didn't have a tattoo was because you used the power of Form!" Kai's hand lit on fire.
"And now I'll use the power of Smoke." Skylor evaporated and phased through Kai, kicking him down. Kai raised his hand again, he readied. Skylor grabbed his hand.
"Do it and we'll both go in." She warned. Kai lit both his hands up with flames.
"No!" Skylor cried.
"Ninja-go!!" Kai yelled, using spinjitzu to break the ice.
"What are you doing?!" Skylor yelled. Chen fell into the water.
"Ahh! Skylor, help me!!" He pleaded. Apparently, Chen can't swim.
"Dad!" Skylor ran to pull him out.
Kai started to run away. He needed to find help.
"Enough of this!" Chen used the master of nature's power and held Kai's ankle with vines. More started to wrap around Kai's arms and torso, making him immobile.
. . .
Nightfall had come as the moon had just risen. Nya ran through the jungle, trying not to stop. She ran into Morro.
"Morro!" Nya yelled.
"Nya? What's going on?" Morro asked.
"Morro! Where are the others? Are there any more people left?! Have stopped Chen?!" Nya bombarded Morro with questions.
"Hey, slow down. Take deep breaths." Morro said. Nya bent river and placed her hands on her knees, trying to calm down.
"Is that the spell?" Morro asked. Nya handed Morro the rolled up paper. The wind ninja read it, shocked at what it was for.
Morro grabbed Nya's hand and turned around. He quickly found the father and son.
"Garmadon, Lloyd!" Morro called.
"Morro? Nya!" Lloyd exclaimed.
"You found her!"
"That's not the only thing we found." Morro handed Garmadon the spell.
"You guys are the only ones left! The only ones who can stop it!" Nya yelled.
Garmadon unrolled the scroll. He couldn't believe his eyes.
"What? What does it say?" Lloyd asked.
"A transformation spell. It's can't be." Garmadon said.
"Transformation? Into what?" Lloyd pulled the spell to see.
"An army of anacondrai." Garmadon said.
"The tournament may be over, but the next serpentine war may have just begun." Garmadon.
"We cant let this happen. We need to stop it. Right now. As soon as possible!" Morro yelled. Lloyd looked up to see Morro's determined yet scared face. He nodded. This needed to be stopped.
. . .
Kai was thrown into the back of the mobile base with all the other masters.
"Don't worry. The brothers are gonna come for us. I know it." Jay said.
"I'm planning on it." Chen laughed, shutting the door. Skylor met eyes with Kai. She turned away. Kai didn't know what to do.

Unstable and weakened, will he be more hindrance than help? Can he become the warrior he once was?A Monk and a Monkey journey across a world...... where the remnants of technology are seen as magic, while pockets of humanity strive to drag themselves out of ignorance.... where the descendants of animal-human hybrids, once created as instruments of war, now seek to dominate the world as demons.... where beings who call themselves Immortals and Gods preoccupy themselves with selfish pastimes, ignoring everything else. Among other things, a story about growth, grit, and being better than the person you were yesterday. Here's my rambling on why I'm writing Journey West 5000. Journey West 5000 is my crazy ambitious writing project to adapt a classic epic called "Journey to the West" for a global, modern audience. It's a sci-fi story disguised as fantasy, and has some road trip + monster of the week elements (as does the original Journey to the West). No system, definitely no harem, gradual power progression. Hmm, what else can I put here so potential readers know what to expect? My writing style for now is mostly "show don't tell", because I believe that readers don't need to have everything pointed out to them, and that they should be allowed to make up their own minds about characters based on the actions of those characters. I'm also trying to be less long-winded (a weakness pointed out by some friends) in order to write according to something Neil Gaiman said, which is to write as though I'm the one who has to pay for every word, not the reader. This will bring down my chapter word counts, and might drive away potential readers, but I believe there's value in learning to compress and be concise. All chapters posted here will have been edited. Constructive criticism, comments, and feedback would be very much welcome and appreciated. Please, please help point out any typos or grammatical mistakes, I'm striving to minimize those as much as possible. Above all, I hope you enjoy my story.

Unwitting Champion
"In stories this is always easy. There's magic and powers, and quick steps to claiming that power for one's self. This doesn't feel true for me. I'm supposed to be a Champion, whatever that means, and yet I don't feel important. I don't have all the bells and whistles, which honestly feels familiar even in a new world. But what was I expecting? I haven't had the worst life - there are people with worse problems than mine - I've known what it is to struggle, to be pulled down instead of being helped up.This is nothing new."When in great peril, the Kingdom of Althor has no choice but to send a call into the void, beseeching the Fates to bring them a man who would save them from the coming darkness. Unfortunately the path the Fates chart is often unknowable to men and the Champion who appears is not what the kingdom expected.Unwitting Champion is a story of a guy displaced, dealing first and foremost with trying to survive in a world where he is no longer a person but a tool, and - at least from the reaction of those around him - a shoddy one at that. His major goal is to survive long enough that either he can run or find a way home, because as exciting as the possibility of learning magic might be, he would rather have a boring life than a short life.
