《Colliding Ambition》Chapter 21

It's been about over a week and I can officially say that Katherine is avoiding me. And also according to Chase, Reid and Kai she's also avoiding them.
I know why she's avoiding me but not them. I've texted her multiple times but no answer. Called her, no answer. I have seen her a couple times but when I try to talk to her she makes excuses and walks away.
And she's changed. Her once bubbly, sarcastic and out going personality is gone and what takes it's place is a stranger.
But what's happened hasn't affected her hockey performance. If anything it seems she's going harder...?
We've had about 2 games since that night and we did loose one of them but that wasn't because of her. Most of the goals in the games and in practice are her shots or were assisted by her.
And the worst part is Cohan is still going to school, acting like nothing happened. Going around, laughing, hanging around other people, girls. I've damned near killed him multiple times but Kai has stopped me each time.
The sound of the shower next to me being shut off interrupts my thoughts. I look over and see that I'm one of the last guy showering so I finish up and wrap a towel around my hips and go to the locker room.
"Hey Rohan, want to go to the Coffee Café?" Kai asks as he slips on his jeans. I grimace which makes him chuckle, "Not for you, for me, dipshit."
I roll my eyes, "Yeah, yeah I'll go." I say slipping on boxer briefs.
Then the door opens and the room falls silent, I look over and see Coach Davis with his arms crossed over his chest. "What's going on with Mitchell?"
I look over to Kai. Only me, Kai, Chase and Reid know about the party, so no one else on the team knows about it or why she's acting different.
"I don't know, maybe something personal happed?" Gavin Veranda says.
"Breakup?" Another teammate says.
"Fight with boyfriend?" Another says.
"Bad hookup?"
I've had enough but I can't seem too eager or pissed, "Maybe she's on her period?" I say dryly. That shuts everyone up but Coach still looks skeptical.
"Mhm, well be here tomorrow for gym." He says before leaving.
After he leaves the team starts to talk about what's going on with Katherine and I can tell from Kai, Chase and Reids' faces they want to pipe up, hell so do I but I shake my head at them because it's not for us to tell.
Kai and I leave the arena and take my truck to Coffee Café which is a local coffee shop close to campus that almost every student goes to.

I'm also sure this is Katherine's favourite coffee shop, if I remember correctly.
The counter tops are white and the counter underneath is wood panelling. There are tables and chairs around the café as well as high tables in front of the front window. There is a huge black board behind the counter above the wall with the menu.
As we walk in the immediate smell of coffee clogs my senses. The shop is packed since classes ended about 2 hours ago, but students are still lingering, some studying.
Kai ends up ordering a black coffee with 1 cream, I just order a hot chocolate. "You don't like coffee but you'll drink hot chocolate?" Kai asks trying to not laugh.
"Fuck off, it's a literal a hot chocolate drink." I argue as we go to the counter where you get your drink.
In the corner of my eye I see a girl approach us, "Hey Rohan, haven't seen you in awhile." I look and see Audrey standing in front of us. She's wearing low rise jeans and a loose shirt under a short leather jacket, her hair is loosely over her shoulder.
I absently run my hand over my mouth, "Yeah, hockey and school take up time." Is my curt response. Some may say I'm always rude and that may be true but girls don't care which is all that really matters.
"We should hangout tonight or something." She says in a sultry voice, while twirling her hair around her finger.
Every instinct in my body is telling me to say yes and fuck her to get out my pent up frustration but that's not how I fuck and it's a sign that I shouldn't fuck her if that's my instinct, and I shouldn't fuck a girl if all my thoughts and worries are on another━Katherine Mitchell.
"Can't Audrey, midterms are here and I'm busy so maybe later," I say not as a question but a statement.
Her smile doesn't falter because she probably thinks I'm joking, to play 'hard to get' but I'm not. "Okay Ro, I'll call when they're over." She says before walking back over to her friends.
"Bro did you just turn down sex?" Kai asks, when I look over I can see him trying to hide a smirk or a laugh whichever it is.
"Shut up, I'm not feeling it right now."
He raises his brows, "Your never not feeling it." He points out. I just roll my eyes because he kind of is right except right now, I am not feeling it and I don't know why.
Looking at me there is no doubt about how I spend any of the free time I have when I'm not playing hockey, but when you look at Kai you'd guess he's innocent from the way he acts towards anyone━which is polite as fuck no matter who he's speaking to━and the way he acts in general but being his bestfriend I know what he's actually like, he's literally me but a polite version.

"Rohan? Kai?" I hear a soft voice behind us. I turn and see Lexi holding 2 cups of coffee in to-go cups. If I had to guess, one of those coffees are for Katherine.
I look down at her outfitLexi and Katherine's outfit styles are completely different, while Kathrine wears a lot of leggings, sweats, swatshirts, tanks tops, tees and long sleeves━Lexi wears a lot of skirts, jeans, sweaters, dress pants and dresses. But today Lexi's wearing sweatpants and a ribbed tee under a jacket.
Which gives me the idea she didn't really plan on coming here and just left her apartment in a spur of the moment.
"Hey Lexi." I say, stuffing my hands into my pocket. "How have you been?"
She shifts on her feet, "I'm good. Uh, how are you doing? Chase and Reid too?"
"Were good." Kai says.
Then there is silence. It draws out until I've had enough, "How is she?"
Lexi releases a breath, "Honestly, she's not okay. She doesn't talk to me about what happened, she barely talks at all. All she's doing is throwing herself into stuff, hockey, working out, school, she stays up most nights to finish assignments, she blasts music, she's avoiding what happened and I'm worried what's going to happen when she comes to terms with what happened."
"Has she talked to her parents?" I ask.
She shakes her head, "She has but not like what your asking. She hasn't told them about it, her conversations with them are short. She hasn't even talked about the other team offers she's gotten or who she's choosing."
"Kai!" The coffee guy calls as he places our cups onto the counter. We grab them and move to a sitting area in front of a fireplace, Lexi follows.
"Has she contacted you, any of you?" Lexi asks as she bounces her leg. She places what I think is Katherines coffee onto the table and takes a sip of her own.
I take of sip of mine, "No, I've tried calling her so many times but nothing."
She nods her head, "So that's you who she's been not answering. I hear her phone ring, and I wait for her to answer but she doesn't...I thought it was Cohan but I'm glad its not." She says the last part with blanten disgust which I can relate too.
"Does he call?" Kai asks with the same disgust in his voice.
She scoffs, "I hope not, but god it's been hard seeing him in class. Just sitting there, laughing, acting like he didn't..." She pauses, "...do what he did."
"You said something about contract offers? How many has she gotten?" I ask leaning back in my chair.
She nods again, "First the Boston Prides, then Chicago North Stars, Buffalo Beauts, uh and Connecticut, she probably got others but haven't told me." She shrugs.
And she hasn't accepted any of them?
"Did you get any offers? Kat didn't mention if you got any yet?" She asks wrapping both hands around her coffee, or hot chocolate, I have no idea.
I nod this time, "Chicago Blackhawks and the Kings but I'm in the middle of signing with Chicago."
"Already? Not taking into account other teams?"
I shake my head, "Nope, Chicago has been my dream since I was 6. I mean I have looked at other teams but it's been Chicago all my life."
She chuckles, "Katherine's always wanted to be on the Boston Prides but now she's taking into consideration every team. I think she realized that Boston wasn't the only team out there even though her dad was on the Bruins."
Wait? She hasn't even accepted the Prides' contract yet...
Lexi's attention turns to Kai, "You said your going to take over your dad's business? Not hockey?" She asks him.
He tilts his dead side-to-side, "I don't know if I want to take over his business, I'm kind of getting ideas of opening my own," He shrugs, "I don't know yet, still have 2 years to decide."
"That's sounds fun." She remarks while taking a sip.
Then I hear a phone ring and Lexi pulls her phone from her jacket pocket and answers, "Hey....yeah I'm still here....yeah I got your coffee..." She rolls her eyes as she laughs, "No it's not cold, and if it was you could microwave it.....yeah I'm on my way home now, bye Kat." And she hangs up. She looks at us as she grabs Katherine's coffee and hers, "Sorry I got to run boys, she didn't sleep all night and we don't have coffee in the apartment," She makes a show of the other coffee, "So I gotta bring this to her."
She stands up as well as me and Kai, "Okay well tell her if she needs anything calls us or at least answer our texts." I say.
She nods, "See you tomorrow, if I don't I wish you luck with your Harvard and Yale games this weekend." She says before leaving.
