《The Golden Girl》19. You are a rainbow but he is colorblind

Her eyes sung stories with sad endings,
I wanted to wrap her in a blanket and tell her...
She'd be safe forever,
And so...
I did.

"I heard that you have been avoiding Kyle since yesterday..." Someone said from behind as Faye took out her books from the locker.
Turning around, she found herself looking at Aubree and Madeline, who were standing there with a frown.
"I saw him making out with Stacey yesterday... it's just... hard " Her voice was shaking, breaking and her eyes were turning red as yesterday's event ran through her mind.
"I swear, I will kill that bitch one day..." Madeline swore under her breath, anger erupting through her veins.
"I don't think she is the only one to blame... Kyle is responsible too. I mean, that guy is blind." And Faye along with Madeline turned around to face Aubree.
"You know what? I agree with Bree, he will have to be really dumb to not figure out your love for him." Madeline said, agreeing with Aubree.
"It is finally starting to feel like I wasted the last three years for nothing. He will never notice me... I am just someone who he goes up to when his heart breaks." Faye whisperer, loud enough for the two to hear.
"Do not blame yourself Faye, never blame yourself... trust me, he does not know what he is missing out..."
And before Faye could say something else, the warning bell rang, making them walk to their classes.
"Will meet you at lunch..." And bidding goodbyes to Faye, both Aubree and Madeline started to walk towards their classes.
And now she was all alone, all alone to be killed by her own thoughts.
Unwanted images flash in front of her, making her shiver.
The way they were holding each other, the way he kissed her, like their are no tomorrows, the way he looked at her.
It somewhere made her feel like she lost him, she lost him forever and that they will never belong to each other. Somewhere it made her feel like she will have to let him go.

Sighing, she walked towards her first class, ignoring each and every stare, wave and smile that was darted towards her.
"Faye..." And she forced a smile on her face, before looking up to meet the familiar face.
"Hey Justin." She breathed out as she found him looking at her.
"You, alright?" Justin asked, concern laced in his voice.
"Better..."
"You should know Faye, I will always be there for you, always." He said, smiling.
"I know, I know you are..." She smiled along, walking up with him to their class.
"Ah, by the way, the weekend is here... So, I guess I will pick you up tomorrow..." He trailed, stopping in his tracks.
"Oh yah, sure..." She nodded.
"Alright, so, I will pick you up at 7?" He asked and when she nodded, he breathed out a sigh in relief.
"Well, I got something for you..." And he ruffled through his pants, before taking out a small white rose from his pocket.
"I know you are not ready... I heard that white rose stands for friendship... I do not want to rush things... I know you need time Faye, I know very well. Do not think of it as a date, it will just be a night dedicated to friendship. I want us to be more than friends, I want you to fall for me, very hard. But right now, I do not want anything but your friendship." And after handing her the rose, he walked through the hallway, blending with the swarm of students.

"I just want you to get a rough copy of everything that was discussed today. Make sure to talk with the drama class about their upcoming play that they are gonna perform next month. And yah, let's not forget the meeting with Miss Marilyn, we need each and every detail of yesterday's match."
"Yes president..."
"That's it then. Farewell Warren, hope you have a great weekend. Once again, thank you for everything..." She said waving as he walked towards car, "You too, president." He shouted back, grinning.
"What took you so long?" And Aubree's voice took her by surprise.

"Had a meeting. Forgot to tell you about it... where is Madeline?" Faye asked, rubbing her temples.
"That bitch got detention." She said leaning on Madeline's car's hood.
"What did she do this time?" Rolling her eyes, Faye asked.
"She was making out with a guy in the class. Teacher didn't appreciate the PDA, so, well..." She shrugged, nonchalantly.
Faye shook her head at that before saying, "What are we gonna do now, then?"
And both took a look at the parking lot, trying to find someone who can give them a ride.
"That is River's car, isn't it?" Aubree asked as soon as she spotted a red Lamborghini.
"Yah... but Zach told me that they have soccer practice."
"Ugh. I do not want to walk." Aubree whined.
But before Faye could say something, River Blake in all his glory walked out of the campus, a smirk plastered on his face.
"Ladies..." He trailed as soon as he reached near them.
"What are you doing here?" Faye's eyes narrowed by a fraction.
"Going home..." Raising his eyebrows, he said.
"You had soccer practice. You should be practicing out there in the field. Get out of here." She glared at him.
"It got cancelled. We are gonna be practicing in the weekend. Plus, Zach skipped school with some girl. We were just hanging out anyway. What's up with you girls, though? Do not have a ride?"
"Yah... we do not. But now since you are here, the problem is solved." And grinning, Aubree ran towards the car leaving Faye and River behind.
"You coming?" He asked as he himself started to walk.
"You and Bree, both are talking? So... I guess you ended everything in mutual understanding?" Faye questioned with an eyebrow raised.
"Oh... about that, well... we kind of talked yesterday and realized that we should not break our friendship just for some silly reason... So, yah, we are good now, I guess..."
"That's great." And Faye smiled making him mirror her action.
"I heard about yesterday though..." He said, scratching the back of his head, shifting from one feet to another.
"And?"
"Well, you should know, you are a rainbow... and it isn't your fault that he is colorblind."

"Kyle tried to talk?" Aubree asked once they were settled in the passenger seat of the car.
"Not really." Faye said, shaking her head.
"You both do not mind if I drop by Starbucks, yah?" River asked as he looked at them through the rear view mirror.
"As long as you buy me a drink, I do not mind." Aubree said in a perky voice as they stopped near the Starbucks.
"What about you?" He asked Faye after getting out of the car.
She shook her head, declining his offer.
"Alright then." And he walked away.
As soon as he was out of the sight, Aubree turned towards Faye, "Hey, you okay?" She asked, concern laced in her voice.
"I just cannot bring myself to hate Kyle." Faye breathed out.
"Because you think he is perfect."
"What... what do you mean?" Faye asked, puzzled.
"Faye, try to look at him for the guy who did not even respect you, try to look at him for the guy who lost you for someone who did not even care when he broke, try to look at him for what he really is."
"I don't understand..."
"You are blinded by his good qualities that you cannot see his flaws. You have already pictured him for something that he isn't."
She was right, Faye knew she was. She wasted too much of her time on him, she knew it was time to finally let him go.
Faye was just about to say something, when a knock in the window made her turn around.
It was River.
"What?" She asked, sliding down the glass window.
"There you go, your drinks." And River held out two cappuccino for her to take.
"But I did not ask for anything." She said, narrowing her eyes.
"I know how much you love caffeine. So, shut up and take it."
