Capricorn
"I will see you tonight." I kissed my mother goodbye, walking out to my car with only one person on my mind: Virgo. I remembered our rendezvous at the mall only too well-we had decided to watch a movie. It was a horror movie, and Virgo was tremendously frightened by the scenes of the movie. No, she was scared. I really had to start working on sounding more... colloquial. Casual, not colloquial. I had held her close for the remainder of the film, feeling an explosion of emotions whenever she flinched and moved closer to me.
I decided I would go and pick her up-Virgo usually walked. I thought it would be thoughtful for me to offer her a ride to school. I pulled up in front of a whitewashed brick house, complete with a neatly kept garden bearing beautiful flowers. The greyish-white door swung open, revealing Virgo, clad in a brown coat and dress, stepping out delicately, her brown heeled boots brushing against the neatly pruned bushes. "Capricorn?" She walked up to me gracefully, smiling. "Well, I'm guessing you're here to give me a ride, so..." She hopped in.
"Away we go!" I drove off, watching how the wind toyed with Virgo's hair out of the corner of my eye.
.....
"Look, I get you're with Scorpio, but I need a ride to school!" Sagittarius whined, looking at Libra with an expression of mock sadness. "Well, I'm sorry, I recall you having a driver's license?" Libra arched an eyebrow at Sagittarius. "But I'm too lazy, Leebs! I want to go in the limo!" Aries rolled her eyes, grabbing Sagittarius by the arm. "You dolt. Leave Leebs be." Sagittarius chortled. "Leave Leebs be... try saying that five times. Fast." The two walked away, leaving Virgo and I with Libra and Scorpio. If I was being honest, I somewhat admired Scorpio. He did his best to keep his family together by working so many part time jobs.

Libra, on the other hand, was one of the people I disliked. She was a brainless, ditsy, clueless girl. In urban terms, an airhead. She had a tendency to 'string people along' and broke a lot of hearts. Realistically, she seemed to have no brain, and yet she got better grades than me at times. I wouldn't be surprised if she'd manipulated someone to change her grades for her. Of course, I felt horrible for thinking in such a way about a fellow student. I just couldn't help it.
"Stop gawking at my girlfriend, you geek." Scorpio snarled. I looked away, murmuring a 'Sorry.' Libra nudged Scorpio gently, frowning. "He didn't mean that, did you, Scorpio?" Scorpio shook his head sincerely. "I did not. I think... you're..... very, um, diligent." Scorpio looked uncomfortable. "Oh look, it's... Gemini! Let's go talk with her!" Libra took Scorpio's hand, dragging him away from us. "Well, that was weird," Virgo laughed. "I'm off to Trig. See you, Cap!" She walked off.
I made my way to my locker to collect my books, running right into a huge quarterback on my way. Leo offered me his hand. "You good, man?" I was off the floor now. "Oh yeah, I am... good." Leo chuckled. "Bruh, loosen up, man!" He snorted, seeming to think this was very amusing. "Excuse me, you are blocking my locker. Kindly move." Leo chuckled. "Aight, I'll move, man." He whistled, walking away with another group of idiotic jocks.
Leo was probably the most stupid person I had met in my whole life. That boy could not solve a math equation to save his life. God may have given him the brawns, but Leo had no brain whatsoever. He was everything I hated in a person: arrogant, showy, proud and stupid. Honestly, he would go so well with that brain-dead Barbie Doll, Libra. I opened my locker, grabbing my textbooks and heading to first period.

.....
"But Virgo! Don't just... leave me by myself." Virgo rolled her eyes at me. "Look, Capricorn, you can come and hang with the squad." I frowned. "What is wrong with your punctuation?" Virgo winced. "I know, it's just... lingo, I guess." She walked off, lunch tray in hand, toward Libra and her group. What did Virgo see in those..... nothings? Those people would never amount to anything.
Ten years down the line, that dumb quarterback would have a drinking problem, the Barbie Doll would be on some sort of good-for-nothing reality show, that Sagittarius guy would be out on the street and the Aries girl... I didn't know about the Aries girl. The only decent person sitting on that table was Scorpio. Virgo smiled at Libra, who was laughing at something Leo had said. How hilarious. I forced a growl back down into my stomach, unable to watch Virgo destroy herself like this.
"Okay, that's it!" I stomped over to the table. "Virgo! What are you doing, 'hanging' with these people? You know how they are!" Virgo blinked in the same, clueless way as Libra. "Why are you trying to fit in with these intellectually challenged people?" Libra frowned. "Especially Libra! She's nothing but a stupid, brainwashed Barbie Doll!" Scorpio growled. "What did you just say about my girlfriend?" Libra patted his shoulder. "And... And Leo! The idiotic hunk? He couldn't pass a math test to save his life!" Leo put his hands on his hips like some character from Mean Girls.
"I'll have you know I have an A- average!" I rolled my eyes at him. "And this prankster who dresses like a hobo!" I pointed at Sagittarius. "Hey, what do you think you're doing, jerk?" Aries pushed in front of Sagittarius. "Honestly, Virgo. Why are you wasting yourself?" Virgo looked dumbfounded. Still trying to act like Libra. Scorpio took a step forward. "You done?" I flinched. "That's what I thought. If you ever insult Libra again, I will break your bones, starting with your-" Libra pushed Scorpio back.
"Actually, I have a thing or two to say myself, Capricorn." I feigned a gasp, surprised at how bold Libra was being. "You can't just barge in and insult everyone I care about. You think we're stupid, don't you? That we're just spoilt little brats who sit around, doing nothing?" Libra took a step closer to me. "Well, newsflash: we're not as stupid as you think we are. Leo has colleges asking him to attend in two years' time on a football scholarship. Sagittarius has the highest grades in the year for English. And I was Student's Choice last year, as well as freshman class rep."
She came up right next to my ear, speaking so that only I could hear her. "And we're not the ones who look stupid right now. You are." She smirked at me, grinning like a villain. "Well. I'm sorry, but we have to go. Toodles!" She blew me a kiss, sashaying away with the whole group, including Virgo. I looked at their receding figures, thinking about how horribly I had miscalculated them. Then I remembered Libra's last words, realisation and dread crashing down on me. Libra just started a war against me-a war that I definitely can't win.

An Unwavering Craftsman
Given the hereditary nature of classes, everyone expects Damien—the child of two high-tiered adventurers—to be granted a high-tier combat class of his own. Expectations are betrayed, however, when Damien finds himself instead saddled with a crafting class of the lowest possible tier: [Neophyte Tailor]. Left practically crippled compared to those with better classes, Damien wants to avoid becoming a pawn in the machinations of the nobility, desiring only to grind his level in peace while wondering why the usual rules of inheritance were broken. Was it his desire to excel by his own effort, rather than an unearned blessing from a god? Did the Five take offence at his opinions on the unfairness of hereditary classes? Or maybe it was something to do with the alien voice that intruded on his ceremony? A voice that offers great power, and freedom from the tyranny of the Five, but that never names its price. This story is litRPG-lite. While the class someone possesses controls most of their lives, people don't get dinged at for every level they gain, nor can they see their status without undergoing a special ritual. The MC has no romantic interest. Crafting is merely a way to game the system, and doesn't feature heavily in the story, aside from a few descriptions on how they're carrying out the system abuse. There is, on one unfortunate occasion, maths. The pace is quick. This was a participant in the Spring 2022 writathon. (i.e. it was posted as-written at high speed. I may give it another editing pass in the future.)
