《The Call (Lucy/Caspian)》Chapter 4

"There is a city." Peter stated.
"Yes, after the four of you left I wasted no time in announcing to the Telmarines that if they did not accept all Narnian races than they will be banished. Most of my uncles soldiers traveled to the Wild Lands of the North. And even as far as Harfang. According to our scouts." Caspian continued.
"When the Cair was rebuilt, people immediately settled. In the past three years, there have been a large number of humans coming from both the northern and southern borders. Making a large increase the nation's in the nation's population.
Edmund interrupted. "And are there any creatures in the city?"
"Of course, however, there are more humans than creatures in this city."
"And what is the current population?" Peter asked, his shoulder squared, voice confident, and it brought tears to Lucy's eyes when she could already notice he was starting to sound more like a King than a college student.
"Fifteen thousand, according to this years census." Caspian replied.
As they journeyed through the village right off the bay next to the cliff which Cair Paravel sat upon, everyone started shouting each of the Pevensies' titles. Lucy could not keep from smiling and laughing as she rode through the streets behind Caspian and Peter. It made her feel uttterly and hopelessly happy when she saw that Narnia had deeply missed their Kings and Queens of Old.
The Narnians shouted many terms and titles with joy, and she saw Peter and Edmund beam with pride every time they heard someone shout.
"High King Peter The Magnificent! Long may he reign."
"King Edmund The Just, of The Great Western Woods. Long May He Reign!"
And then she heard someone shout towards her. She turned and saw it was an older boy.
"Look it's Queen Lucy The Valiant!" The child said pointing towards her.
"The Loyal, The Patient, and The Courageous are her names, Long May She Reign!" The boy threw his fist up in the air as he shouted these words. The crowds in the streets heard this and all joined in and too threw up their hands in respect.
"Long Live Queen Lucy! Long Live Queen Lucy!"
Lucy knew she was blushing, but oh how good it felt to know she was missed! She smiled and laughed and waved to the crowds, and Caspian turned around and gave her a wink, making her smile even bigger. Oh it felt good to be home.
There was a lower half of the city that rested on the bay, and then there was what appeared to be an upper half separated by a stone wall where the upper class lived. The upper half of the city winded up the cliff and on top, crested Cair Paravel, facing the magnificent Eastern Ocean. And since the sun was setting, the castle looked breathtaking, because when the suns rays hit, the whole castle glittered like diamonds. As their party approached the castle gatehouse, They were astounded at how big Cair Paravel actually was up close.
"Oh Caspian it looks exactly the way I remember it. I can't even tell a difference."
Lucy choked out as she felt tears surface.
"It is beautiful." Peter said sincerely, his voice raw with emotion, and Lucy knew he was reliving many memories of his day as high king. She looked over at Edmund and knew that he too was remembering the Golden Age."
Caspian gave a brief nod. He was so happy they approved, but his heart nearly broke as he looked at their faces. He could not imagine being ripped from his home like the Pevensie's were during their reign. Having to go back to a world where they were only looked upon as young children. He knew he had never been to their world, but from what he had heard, it did not seem like a reasonable realm. His thoughts were interrupted when the gatekeeper saw them and began barking orders for the door to be opened. As soon as they reached the courtyard, they were greeted by stable hands and horse masters.

"Thank you." Caspian said gratefully as he dismounted and handed his reins to a stable boy.
He turned around and saw Peter and Edmund dismount first, and being the gentlemen they were, he watched the brothers help Queen Lucy dismount.
"Thank you." She said gratefully to her brothers.
"Em, Caspian, can we freshen up and get out of these dirty clothes before supper perhaps?" Lucy asked as she gestured to her now baggy, ripped dress with mud stains all over her arms and face.
"Of course, we shall meet in the dining room for supper in one hour. I will escort you to your rooms." Caspian answered.
"If it's alright, I think Pete and I would like to find our own rooms, if we can manage it." Edmund said with a smile.
"Of course." Caspian answered with a grin.
Edmund and Peter did not waste any time in searching for their quarters, which left him and Lucy together. "And will my room be where it used to be?" She asked him smiling.
"Yes it will, next to Susan's."
Susan
Why was she not here? He hadn't thought of her in years. He was actually surprised he had not even given her a thought when the three of them had returned and she hadn't. Well he was not exactly surprised he had forgotten about Susan Pevensie, because he had moved on completely. But would that change if he ever saw her again?
"Wait where is Susan?" He asked her, but immediately regretted it when he saw the sadness in Lucy's eyes. She took a deep breath before answering.
"Caspian, she isn't-" she heard a squeal behind her.
"Father!" Lucy turned around and saw a toddler with dark brown curls run toward Caspian, and not far behind, a flushed maid trying to catch up with the boy.
"Rilian." Caspian smiled as he bent down to pick up his two year old son.
"I've missed you." Caspian said as he tickled him.
"I missed you too!" The boy replied with fits of laughter as he got tickled uncontrollably.
"Your majesty, my deepest apologies, I could not catch him." The maid told Caspian.
"It's quite alright." Caspian smiled at the maid before looking back at Lucy who, to Caspian's amusement looked very confused.
"Lucy, I would like you meet Rilian. My son. "
Lucy froze. Caspian had a son? Why didn't he mention he was married and had had a son. But if he was married, where was his wife? She wanted answers but knew that now was not the time.
"Hello there I'm Lucy." She said with a dazzling smile. The boy responded by pushing his head into his fathers neck, as if to say he was done with having so much attention.
"He is quite shy when it comes to meeting new people." Caspian said as he smiled at her.
"Well he will get over that." Lucy said happily. "Because when I was a little girl, I always got attention, and he will get the same because it's quite wonderful."
"And you still get too much attention." He said with a grin.
"I do not!" She said defensively as she crossed her arms and gave him a look that would have any man bolt, but not Caspian, he knew she would not hurt a fly.
"You do." He said smiling.
"Oh really," She scoffed. "because if you had not happened to be a king, your head would be rolling across this marble floor as we speak for insulting Queen Lucy, The Valiant." she smirked.

"Touché." He said surrendering.
"That's what I thought." She huffed and started off towards the west wing. But not before she heard Caspian laugh heartily, making her shake her head with annoyance. "I'll get him." she smiled to herself.

Oh how he loved Lucy, she was like the sister he never had. He loved to tease her and make her angry, but he was completely blind at how different she actually was. She had a slim waist with soft curves, and had long auburn curly hair, which at the moment, all he could see was a tangled nest of hair, and a ripped dress with mud stains to where he couldn't see her figure at all, nor could he see her glorious mane of hair, and he most certainly couldn't see her beautiful high cheek bones and soft pink lips, for dirt covered her entire face from traveling so much in two days. No you can't blame Caspian for not seeing Lucy the way she was, but I can assure you his feelings and his eyes were soon going to change.
"Come Rilian, let us prepare for supper." Caspian said smiling at his son, and turned away from the retreating figure of Lucy and went in search of some clean clothes.

As Lucy approached the hall where her and Susan's rooms were, she almost fainted with sheer disbelief. "I cannot believe I'm here." She subconsciously mumbled. She was standing in long hall at least three stories high, with gold curtains and beautiful gold and silver wallpaper. There were two grand doorways in the hall. On the left, was Susan's room and Lucy's was on the right, across from Susan's. Her throat tightened as she thought of all the times Susan and her would walk together laughing through the castle and would stay together until they got to their rooms. How different that Susan was.
"Oh Susan why aren't you here? Why did you have to forget?" She turned and walked across the hall to the front of her own room. As she reached for the gold doorknob, she looked above it, and written across the left door in bold Golden writing, it read:
She was filled with gratitude, for in Cair Paravel in the Golden Age, her door said the very same thing. "Caspian, you are making it very hard to stay mad at you." She said shaking her head. She opened the doors, and just dropped to her knees. Her room looked exactly as it use to be over thirteen hundred years ago. She felt tears fall down her cheeks as she walked around and gently touched all the fabrics and decorations in her enormous room. She didn't care that she was crying. She calculated that it had been over twenty-two years since she had seen her bedroom in the Golden Age. She still remembered the last morning before riding out with Ed, Susan, and Peter in search of the white stag during the Golden Age. She had been twenty-three then. So much had happened since she had reigned and yet here she was, standing in an almost exact replica of her bedroom, and four years younger than she had been when she lived in the castle.
She looked to the right, where her closet was, and suddenly remembered. "Supper! Oh I'm going to be late."
She hurriedly started looking for a dress to wear and was suddenly over whelmed with all of the choices. She unconsciously grabbed a plain green one, and tried to put it on. She groaned out loud when it got stuck at her chest. "Of course! Caspian must have saved ones that I wore when I was here last. I won't be able to fit in anything!" She said frustrated, suddenly wishing she didn't have any curves, so she could fit into her favorite dresses. She decided she might try one of Susan's dresses, so she went in Susan's room and put on a dark forest green dress that Susan often wore when she rode in the forest. It was a little loose on her, but Lucy had always been petite. "I never thought I'd see the day, when I would be wearing Susan's dresses." She whispered to herself as she went back into her room and walked up to her dresser, and looked at herself in the mirror for the first time in days.
She heard herself shriek. Her hair looked like a matted reddish brown nest, and her face was absolutely covered in dirt and dust. She looked down and noticed all sorts of brushes and combs, as well as several perfumes. After she spent a quarter of an hour carefully combing her long curly auburn hair, she was satisfied when it fell in beautiful waves down her back. She quickly braided it down her back so she could get a head start on getting ready for bed after supper.
She decided she wouldn't wear her crown until tomorrow, so that left her with one more thing. Her face. She didn't see a towel nearby, so she licked her hands and started rubbing the dirt off of her face.
Fifteen minutes later, a very flushed Lucy appeared in the dining room. Edmund, Caspian, and Peter were already seated and eating, but when they saw her enter, they stood up and bowed as propriety had commanded.
"You're just in time Lu." Peter smiled, gently pushing her chair in after she sat down. "I have to admit, it's rather strange seeing you wearing Susan's dresses." Peter said as he sat right next to her.
"Yes. I believe I was twelve years old when I was here the last time. I believe most of my dresses were altered last time so they would fit properly."
"If you would like we can make some more for you, or we can make adjustments for your original dresses." Caspian suggested across the table.
"I would love to keep my old dresses, I have so many memories." Lucy said looking at Caspian.
"I have kept some from the Golden Age, I'm sure if you look hard enough you will find some that still fit." Caspian answered.
"Oh I shall try again." Lucy smiled, then frowned. "Where's Rilian? Shouldn't he be eating with us?" Lucy asked.
"He wouldn't enjoy being with all of us, unable to move." Caspian said as he took another bite of food, indicating he was done with the subject.
But Lucy wouldn't back down so easily, And she knew that the shy little brown haired prince would start coming to supper whether his father wanted him to or not.
After a short supper everyone claimed to be exhausted except Lucy. She had practically begged Peter to take an evening stroll with her. "Oh come on, lets do it another night Lu, I'm exhausted."
"But do you not remember you and I walking the castle grounds every night after supper? We have such wonderful memories in the gardens." Lucy pouted. After a terribly long silence, Peter sighed.
"Fine. But just a short one." He said with a smile.
Edmund scoffed. "And the sky is pink."
"Oh do hush, Ed! Come on Peter!" She said excitedly as she took his hand and abandoned an amused Caspian and Edmund in the grand dining room.
"I forgot how happy she was." Caspian smiled after the two had left.
"Oh she isn't always like this," Edmund replied. "Just when she's in Narnia."
