《VIKING PRINCESS》Chapter Twenty-Two

The next morning she woke on the ground next to Hvitserk who was on his back. She sat up and smiled after deciding to wake him. She scooted closer to him and hit his chest.

He sat up as quick as her hand hit him. He started coughing and hitting his chest and stopped upon hearing a laugh.

He turned his head to the side to see Grace laughing loudly with a hand over her mother and about to fall. "It's that funny, huh." He said with a chuckle as she shook her head finally calming down.

They were interrupted from their conversation by Ubbe who had said they must go see Ivar. She sighed and stood still in the cloths from yesterday and raked a hand through her hair.

They made their way to where he most likely was. But upon arrival we're stopped by a group of men. "Let us through. Do you know who we are?"

A man with gray hair walked up and looked at Ubbe then to her. "We know who you are. Ivar told us that Grace can come through." She rolled her eyes as they made way for her.

Once she walked past she stopped and waited for her brothers. Hvitserk put his arm around her shoulder as they walked to Ivar. "Ubbe! Hvitserk! Grace!" He yelled but the last name was a surprise to him.

"Did you take a look around? The work on the strengthening the defenses is doing well." Ivar said as a man was tattooing his back. "Why do you need a personal bodyguard, Ivar?"

At the words Ivar looked to Grace and saw her roll her eyes with a neutral look on her face. "What." "We were just stopped by your bodyguards. Why do you need them?" Ubbe wanted an answer but Ivar was most likely not willing to give.

"Hmm? Do you need bodyguards against us? Against your brothers?" "Of course not." Hvitserk leaned against a barrel and Grace walked over to put her arm around his shoulder.

"Then why have them?" "I'm a cripple. I need a bodyguard." She snorted but quickly covered her mouth with her hand. "Not from what you did yesterday." She told him as Ubbe started speaking. "It's not just the bodyguard, Ivar. The fact is, you never seem to consult us about anything. It's as if you think you are now that leader of our Great Army."

She watched Ubbe move level eyed with Ivar and scoffed. She hated when they fought about stuff but at this moment she was on Ubbes side. Ivar held up his hand and signaled for the guy doing the tattoo to leave.

"Do you think you are the leader?" "No, I don't." She rolled her eyes as Ivar looked to her then back at Ubbe. "Why would I ever think such a thing?" "Since all you think about us gaining power by killing, Ivar." She told him moving away from Hvitserk.

"Sister, you don't understand." She held up her hand and he quieted down as Ubbe spoke up. "I'm glad to hear you say that because you are not the leader. We three and Grace are the leaders together. As our father would have wished."

She smiled softly at Ubbe as she was included because she knew Ivar probably wouldn't have included her. "We are older than you, Ivar. You can't push us aside. It's unacceptable." "No, you're right, Hvitserk. But you three have to understand that it is harder for me to share and stake my claim."

She saw Hvitserk scoff and she moved her hands behind her as Ivar continued. "I truly want to be your equal but in order to do so, I have to do better than you. I have to make you forget that I'm a cripple." She rolled her eyes as she never saw him for what he was.

She always included him in everything and never discriminated against him for his disability. "Listen, Ivar, we know what you are. And we accept what you are. It makes no difference to us, especially to Grace. You are just our brother."
