《Vikings, Mini Drabbles》Halfdan: Forseeing eyes

The rumbling night sky woke you up, followed by that flash of light. The smell of rain used to calm you. You enjoyed the rain but in some odd way it felt kind of different. Your stomach turned upside down, that pressure pushing from the inside out, a warning? You remembered the disagreement from a week ago, between two different kind of people. Both fighting for the same thing and only one party getting it ... Halfdan got it and in a way that terrified you. The rumbling of the storm outside made your muscles slightly tense. 'WHat is it?' His voice sounded so awake and clear as it always sounded. You looked aside, trying to find those dark eyes but instead you found an even bigger darkness. 'Nothing.' You whispered. He moved, instantly boxing your head on one side with his elbow and on the other side with the caring touch of his fingertips. 'You always were a bad liar.' He noticed with a slight tug on his lips. You closed your eyes on just that light feeling, almost forgetting why you were away in the first place. 'I have a bad feeling.' You confessed. His fingers stopped caressing as he narrowed his eyes a little. 'About last week, it feels like they are coming, can't subscribe it.' You muttered into your own thought, looking away to the flash of a thunderstrucks through the window. He pushed his finger against your cheek, moving your head in that demanding gesture so you had to look at him again. 'I'm going to keep you safe.' He said. You smiled, nodding on his promise. 'I know.' 'Then sleep and let me worry about the rest.' He whispered, kissing you so gently before he held you close.

In his arms everything felt safe, but it was just for a few hours before you startled up by a far distant scream. You jumped up in the bed, turning your head to look into the darkness. In just seconds Halfdan was already dressed and grabbing for his axe. 'You stay here.' He commanded you coldly. 'Halfdan,' you silenced yourself as he came your way and kissed you strongly, forbidding you to say anything more. 'Be safe.' You whimpered against his lips. He pulled a dagger out of his belt and gave it to you. 'Stay here.' He repeated himself. You silently followed that command.
Dressed you sat on the edge of the bed, waiting, listening. You heard screams and cries, balder and metal against metal. Closing your eyes leaded to all kinds of possibles outcomes. What if? That was the question that kept you busy. It was only when the got seem to get closer that you tensed more. You heard people running by, the smell of a fire. You jumped up, pressing yourself against the farest wall of the house. 'This is it!' You heard somebody yell, followed by that defining kick against the door. You had no fighting skills and yet here you stood with a dagger and no self control, looking to two men who were twice your size. 'Just what we were looking for.' One giggled half drunk. 'What do you want?' You asked, pointing the dagger towards the both of them. 'You, seems like Halfdan invested his treasure from last week already we have to take revenge by doing something else.' The other explained. They were quick to box you in and for the first time you felt afraid. One came so fast that your instinct and fear reacted faster, plunging that dagger right into the flesh. You silence a cry when he dropped down, pulling that dagger out of his own chest. 'You foolish girl, you will regret this.' The other baldered, grabbing that dagger out of his friends almost death body before forcing all his powers onto you. But instead he froze as Halfdan pulled his axe right out of his back. You just looked to the two bodied, shocked by the horrors of your own actions and these events. 'Y/n,' Halfdan urged, laying a head around your cheek to refocus your eyes. 'told you I would keep you safe.' He said. 'I killed him.' Nothing more, nothing less before he pulled you into a protected embrace.

El's Revenge
“Revenge is not for the dead- we, as the living, take revenge to relieve the burden we feel,” I whispered into the air. “Salvation for the people who suffered because of you,” I watched as the city burned in the flames. “Salvation for the people like me, who believed in the proclaimed heroes when in reality they were the devils.” I smiled faintly as the ‘holy land’ of those ‘saints’ was destroyed. I heard rustling sounds as Charlotte came to stand next to me, grabbing my hand. “El, are we the bad guys?” If I was still the same as I was before, I might’ve broken down and started crying. Now, it was different. “A villain is just another victim. They cry and mourn, it’s just that no one heard, leading them into madness. It’s one of the reasons why we know the most, but care the least.” I took a deep breath. “We may be the bad guys in other peoples’ eyes, but in my story, we’re the heroes.” Charlotte took in my words for a while and pondered, before nodding in agreement. “As children, we loved the heroes, as adults we understand the villains.” I looked at her and bonked her on the head, earning an angry glare from her. “Hey! You’re barely an adult yourself you know,” she grumbled. I laughed and ruffled her hair, before countering her. “At least I’m not 12. You can’t even be considered a teenager at that age.” After that, we silently watched the flames ravage the land, before leaving.
