"Where's Kira?" Scott asked Malia as she joined Scott, I, and Theo, who caught up with us right before we contacted everyone about what we found.
"Still at the library," she responded.
I looked at the text from Lydia and put my phone in my pocket, saying, "Stiles and Lydia are at the hospital."
"Doing what?" asked Theo.
"Lydia's trying to figure out what happened during her surgery."
"How long are they going to be there?" Scott asked.
"They said they're just waiting for the power to come back on."
Malia and I carpooled to the hospital while Theo and Scott took their own vehicles. We met at the entrance and walked in together.
"You guys try to find Stiles and Lydia. I'm gonna find my mom," Scott said and went the opposite direction.
"We should split up. We'll cover more if we're all spread out," Theo said.
"Great idea. Malia and I will go this way, you just-" Theo interrupted me.
"I'll go to the floors above," he said and ran off.
"Something's not right," Malia said as I followed her down a long hallway.
"I know. I feel it too." Right when I said that, the lights above us flickered.
"Malia, Brianna, what are you doing here?" Melissa asked, approaching us.
"We're looking for Lydia and Stiles, but now I think Scott's in trouble," I explained. I have the same feeling in my gut like earlier after Scott had an asthma attack, or memory trigger. Still not sure what really happened.
"He was looking for you. Did you find him?" Malia asked her.
"I haven't seen him," she said and hit the button to the elevator.
As we got into the elevator, my hearing was triggered. I heard the static and the clicking and I immediately knew it was the Dread Doctors.
"Third floor," I said and clicked the button.
The elevator dinged and when they opened, we saw that one of the Dread Doctors had Scott pinned up against the wall. It was easy to tell that he couldn't breath again.
The Dread Doctor looked at us and cocked his head to the side, like he was waiting to see what we would do.
Malia growled and extended her claws. The Dread Doctor threw Scott to the side as Malia charged for him first.
Melissa stepped forward but my arm shot out in front of her. "I'll get Scott. Stay here."
I didn't even give her a chance to respond before I ran out the elevator, pass Malia and the doctor who were fighting and right by Scott's side.
"Come on, Scott," I scooped my hands under his arms and pulled him up to his feet. "Let's go."
I practically dragged him all the way back to the elevator. Scott fell against the wall, gasping for breath.
"Malia, let's go!" I yelled at her.
Melissa pulled something out of her pocket, pulling a lid off and brought it closer to Scott.
"Wait. What is that?" He gasped out.
"A bronchodilator. It'll work," she said and stabbed it into his leg.
"Malia!" I yelled when I realized that the Dread Doctor had her pinned up against the wall.
I pushed off from the ground and ran right at the Doctor at full speed. I pushed him off of her, sending him to the ground.
I picked up Malia who had fallen to the ground as we ran to the elevator. I could hear the Doctors footsteps behind us as we ran. I don't know how he was walking, but still so fast.

Melissa was literally trying to push the elevator doors shut as we jumped in.
"Watch out!" She yelled. There was a huge bang as the Dread Doctor made impact with the elevator doors right as they closed. The elevator rattled as it began to move again.
I looked down at Scott who looked like he could breath again.
He shook his head at what just happened and said, "We never should have read that book."
***
I stared down at the body laying on the medical table. The way his throat was sliced, and the run-off of the blood. There was something about his death that just didn't look like the Dread Doctors work. There also wasn't any mercury coming from his wounds like I've seen in the past with other dead Chimera's.
"Do you know him?" Theo asked Scott and I.
Apparently while Scott, Malia and I were occupied with one of the Dread Doctors, Theo and Stiles saw this boy get killed by another one.
"His name's Josh. He was a junior," Scott stared sadly down at Josh.
"Cover him up," I whispered, tearing my gaze from the junior. This can't be happening any more. I can't deal with more bodies.
Stiles lifted up the sheet, placing it over Josh's face.
"Which one did it?" Scott asked. "The one with the cane?"
Theo looked surprised by the question, but he still nodded.
"What are we going to do with him?" Stiles asked. "We can't just set the alarm and leave. That's how Tracy disappeared."
My mind flashed back to the night where Malia and I saw Tracy die, right in front of us. My heart ached for her. She didn't deserve that. Nobody deserves that.
"All right someone's got to stay here with him."
I was about to offer myself but Theo spoke up instead, "I'll do it."
We all stared at him and he shrugged. "It's not like I had a big Saturday night planned."
"Thank you, Theo," I nodded to him and he sent me a small smile.
Scott's phone vibrated in his pocket. He pulled it out and read the text from whoever it was. By the look on his face, it wasn't good.
"What is it?" Stiles asked, his voice hinted with annoyance.
"Another one. Another chimera."
"Do you know who it is?" I asked, picking my car keys up from the counter, ready to leave whenever.
"It's Hayden," Scott replied, putting his phone back in his pocket.
"Liam's friend?"
"Yeah, Liam brought her to my house. C'mon we've got to go." Scott sent me a nod and headed toward the exit of the animal clinic.
"See you there?" I asked Stiles, following him out.
"Yeah," he replied and gave me a quick kiss on my forehead.
Before I left, I turned back to Theo.
"Um, if anything goes wrong-"
"I'll text you. Don't worry," he smiled.
It was awkward for me to say that since I still don't trust him 100%, but he's helped a lot lately. I feel like I should help him out also.
I left the animal clinic without another word. I made it to Scott's in no time. When I got there, I let myself in. I could hear voices upstairs so I followed them into Scott's room.
"Hayden?" Scott knocked on the bathroom door. "It's Scott."
There wasn't a response.
"I know that you're scared, but we just... We want to help."

Silence once again.
Scott turned around, his back to the door as he spoke to Liam.
"I can hear her heart beating. She's really freaked out. What happened?"
"She was okay when we got here. I went to text you for two seconds and she locked herself in," Liam stuttered.
"Why?" Stiles whispered.
"I don't know."
"She's definitely a chimera?" Scott asked.
Liam nodded, "She said she heard a voice saying, 'Your condition improves.'"
"Okay, that's unsettling," Stiles said and made his way to the door. I grabbed him gently by the hand and pulled him back.
"Let me talk to her. Girl to girl?"
"Babe, this isn't girls talking about boys or whatever you guys talk about. She's a Chimera, it's different," Stiles replied.
"Not necessarily. Girls generally feel more comfortable when they have a girl friend by their side. Why do you think we go to the bathroom together?"
The boys shared a look between themselves, then took a few steps backwards out of my way.
"Hayden? Hey, it's Brianna. You remember me right?" I looked back at the three boys who were staring at me intently. "Look, I know you're scared. I've been in the same position you're in and frankly, it was terrifying. But it get's better, I promise. And you can trust us, we're your friends. We're here for you. We just need to tell you the truth, Hayden. And that kind of thing is better face-to-face. Listen, either you're gonna unlock the door or I'm gonna have to break it down. And I know Scott will not be happy if I break down his door. It's okay that you don't believe us or if you're not ready to talk. Just... I gotta know you're okay in there."
There was a long silence so I figured she wouldn't do anything. I turned back around and shrugged my shoulders. At least I tried.
I got into the position to break it down, and right when I was about to jump, she unlocked the door and opened it a little.
Stiles and Liam came closer along with Scott who was the one to slowly push the door open.
Hayden slowly lifted her head up, her eyes glowing yellow. It wasn't till then did I notice her claws and teeth.
"I believe you." Her comment directed toward me.
****
I looked down at the map Scott lays in front of Stiles and I. He had it turned toward him so it was upside down for me. I placed my hand on top and twisted it around to where I could see.
"We're back to telluric currents?" Stiles asked annoyed.
"If the Dread Doctors didn't like coming into Eichen House because of them, maybe we can use them to protect Hayden," Scott explained.
"Okay, so, besides Eichen, where's the strongest convergence?" I asked, looking at the map.
Scott leaned down and pointed to the place he had highlighted orange and said, "We're standing on it."
I looked around me and grimaced. "Aw, school? Really?"
I hate this place.
"You wanna hide her in the high school? For how long?" Stiles asked.
"If we have to, all night."
"Ugh," I groaned. "We have to come back to school?"
"You don't have to do this if you don't want," Scott said.
"Please, of course I do. One, cause I don't want another person dead, and two, well... I'm in this forever. I was sucked into all this the second I met Allison. There's no way I'm backing down now."
"We need to convince Hayden not to say anything to her sister yet. She's working a double tonight, and she thinks Hayden's staying at a friends," Scott started to elaborate more on the plan.
"But it's just a school, though. You know, I mean, it's not exactly a fortress," Stiles argued.
"Lydia's got an idea for that. Remember how Valack quoted Tesla? Frequency and vibration. She thinks that he wasn't saying that just to sound smart. She thinks maybe it was a clue."
"To do what, exactly?" I piped up.
"Disrupt their frequency. Parrish took three cell phone jammers from the station. He thinks he can broaden their range of frequency. It's a long shot, but it's the best we've got right now."
"Who all will be at the school tonight?" I asked. I think I had an idea of everyone but I wasn't sure if Mason or Theo would be there.
"Me, you," Scott began. "Hayden, of course. Liam, Malia, Lydia, and Parrish will be outside monitoring the jammers."
"Why won't you be there?" I asked Stiles.
"Theo and I are gonna watch over the body. No one got it last night so we're gonna set up a camera and sit outside," Stiles said. I could tell he wasn't happy about having alone time with Theo. But, I'm glad he won't be at the school. I wouldn't want him to get hurt.
"And Kira?" The question made Scott's face fall.
"Uh, she doesn't think it's safe for her to go."
"Because of what happened at Eichen?"
He nodded and picked up the map. He folded it up and put it in his bag.
"See you tonight," Scott said to me. He nodded a goodbye to Stiles and left us.
"You think this will work?" I asked him, taking a seat at the table.
He followed my actions and took a seat also.
"I hope so."
"Can I ask you a question?"
"You just did," he replied with a stupid grin.
"Ha ha," I fake laughed. "No, another question."
He laughed at himself and nodded for me to continue.
"Did the cuts one Josh's neck look weird to you?"
His smile faded and his body stiffen. I couldn't help but tune in to the rhythm of his heart, which sped up really quick.
"I didn't really get a close look." He cleared his throat and crossed his arms over his chest. "There was a lot of blood when we got to him."
I stared at him intently. There was something off about what he said. I couldn't tell if it was a lie or not, his heart was beating fast the whole time.
"Listen, if something happens tonight..." I placed my hands on the table and leaned up a bit. "Like to me-"
"Like what?" He uncrossed his arms and placed his hands on top of mine, twiddling with my fingers.
"I don't know. Anything could happen tonight. I just want you to not worry about me. I'll be okay." I know what will happen tonight. I know it won't end well.
"I'm always going to worry about you," He shook his head at what I just said. "I constantly worry about you. Even about the tiniest things. I worry if you're too cold or too hot. If you're happy or sad. I worry that I don't tell you how much you mean to me enough. So you can't tell me not to worry about you, because I'm constantly doing it."
It was kind of awkward to do but it just felt right. I pushed my chair back and leaned over the table, grabbing his face in my hands and kissing him passionately.
He kissed me back, tangling his fingers in my hair.
When we pulled away we were both staring deeply into each others eyes.
"I love you," I hummed happily.
"I love you too."

A Virtual Invasion

How will the world fair when no one even knows its doom is one barred gate away? Fortunately, the traitor has a plan. Maybe with a bit of luck and planning, he can build a force to defend the world without anyone realizing it. Author's Thoughts: What is litRPG (From wikipedia) - LitRPG, short for Literary Role Playing Game, is a literary genre combining the conventions of MMORPGs with science-fiction fantasy novels.[1] LitRPG is a literary genre where games or game-like challenges form an essential part of the story. A LitRPG work simultaneously narrates the story of characters inside and outside of the game-world. At least some of the characters in a LitRPG novel therefore understand that they are playing a game: they are 'meta-aware'. So, while Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is a fantasy novel, a book about people creating avatars and interacting in a Lord of the Rings MMORPG would be a LitRPG novel. Why do I read them? You know, I am not too sure. I love MMOs. I played them, quit them, joined up and repeated the cycle. They are fun! They are a massive waste of time but so are most games. Do I want to read about someone else playing them? Sort of?The advent of VR and the possibility of VR someday becoming so immersive that you can't tell them from reality sets the imagination on fire. What if this could be life? But most stories fall short. At the end of the day the protagonist hangs up his VR helmet and goes to have dinner with his mom and dad or other family and it becomes meaningless. It's like the story that ends because the main character woke up and nothing you read matters. There have been some books that explore the concept of the intersection of reality and total immersion VR. Enders Game is a classic. There were a few others that escape me but they exist, however, the cross between the game and reality is weak.So what if the game was real? The technology needed for total immersion VR is so advanced that by the time we reach that goal technology should have naturally evolved to include several items. You must have direct neural input. You simply can't have a total immersion (all senses and perfect presence) experience without this basic prerequisite. If you have direct neural access, you can probably do neat things like feed knowledge and skills directly to that person. You can undoubtedly do many horrible things as well. Muscles are controlled by the brain. If you control the brain why would you let the body just sit there and rot? A person that sits unmoving for 24 hours a day will have their body whither away just like a coma patient. However, if you control the brain you could control the muscles. On a basic level, this would be isometric impulses, working muscle group against muscle group to avoid atrophy. Taken to its logical conclusion you would be able to gain muscle mass and program muscle memory. The flip side is that you could remote control their body... but let's not go there. So what would people do if it were real? Well, they would probably limit and regulate it since the drawbacks are very obvious. Even if you look at the basic aspects of this you can see some negative possibilities. Look at the Sword Art Online anime. Personally, I think they missed the boat by putting a bomb in the VR helmet. Do you really need a bomb when you have direct access to the brain? So what kind of events would you need to have a situation where the obvious drawbacks haven't been explored? Maybe a society where the advancement of technology has so far outstripped the explorations of its applications that ignorance was truly bliss? Okay, so I had to put in an alien invasion to kickstart the premise, but that was just one of the possibilities.
