《Whodunnit? A Manor Of Mystery》Whodunnit? A Manor of Mystery ~ Bed Bomb

BOOM! A large explosion wakes the guest around 3:10am. "What the hell!" Kyle shouts. The guest rush out of their rooms, panicked and sleep deprived. The fire alarm goes off, and smoke seems to be pouring from one of the guest rooms. The door is blown to smithereens, and a look inside shows Jennie's burnt and charred body laying limp on the floor.
"Holy shit!"
"How did this happen?"
"Where the hell did this come from?"
Those are the words the guest each express as the ceiling sprinklers spray water like a cannon. In their navy blue and gold, silk pajamas, the guest stand where the explosion was. The room is still smothered with smoke and ash. Some of the guest cough and wheeze, while others stare mystified and horrified by the death of Jennie. All the guest are sleep deprived, and yawn as Thomas enters the room, in his pajamas as well.
"Poor Jennie." He expresses. The guest have now gathered in the study. "However, this murder cannot be left unattended. You may gather with your groups and begin to decide which of the following 3 areas you would like to conduct your investigations; The morgue, the last known whereabouts, and the crime scene. Chose wisely.
Once again, the groups have shifted. Kyle, Alex and Katie go to Katie's bedroom and sit on the floor. They brush the ashes off of each other and then Begin to speak, voices gruff. "Maybe I'll take the morgue" Kyle says between coughs. "And I'll get the crime scene, are you okay with the last known where abouts?" Katie directs to Alex. "That's where I was planning to go."
"You're lucky we are letting you back in... for now." Dave grunted. "Whatever, I just want to solve this case, like everyone else." "I'm more concerned about making it out alive actually." Kallista butts-in. "Good point, we need to work together though, so we can get as much information as we need." Greg indicates. "How about Kallista and I take the crime scene? Dave and Winter take the morgue, and Greg takes the last known whereabouts?" Sami suggest to her group. "Sounds like a plan." Greg answers. "Great." Winter grumbles.
"Ah, so it would seem you have made your final decisions on which area you would like to pursue. Who here would like the crime scene?" Kallista, Sami and Katie raise their hands, and exit the room swiftly. "The cold morgue?" Kyle, Dave, and Winter raise their hands. They walk out, with a nervous gait to their step. "Finally the last known whereabouts, in this case, the theatre." Alex and Greg follow Thomas down into the basement theatre, cautious of what could be lurking down below.
THE CRIME SCENE: Dwindling fires still burn with a bright, orange glow. Ashes coat the carpet and a large, crescent explosion marks the back center of the room. "The source of the explosion clearly came from over there" Sami explains. "Yeah, but what caused the explosion?" Katie asks. Kallista walks through the embers, dodging the small flames, and stops at the mattress. Like many other things, it seems to be torn to shreds. She flips over the remains and finds something remarkable. Sami and Katie join her to find a large space of the mattress to be cut out, and a thin metal plate sits in the space. "Pressure plate, possibly" Kallista whispers to Sami. Katie notices, but doesn't take much interest. "The explosive was planted here" Katie says. "So we just have to figure out how it blew up."

THE MORGUE: Kyle enters the room first, trailing behind are Winter and Dave. Dave watches Winter's every move, and makes sure she doesn't fool him again. Jennie's body lay lifeless on the examination table. Her body is charred and burnt. "Her skin is black." Kyle gasps. "To be expected after fatal burns" Dave states, eyes watching Winter. "The major burns seem to be at the torso and arms, so the fire or explosion was set around there" Dave continues. "That'd make sense, because her head and lower legs aren't as burnt at the rest of the body," Winter concurs. "Good job, Doctor Dave!" Kyle half-jokes.
THE LAST KNOWN WHEREABOUTS: Alex and Greg cautiously enter after Thomas into the basement theatre. The theatre is covered in gold accenting and had a total of 3 rows of chairs. The screen is still on, with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows playing. "This is interesting" Alex motions Greg over. "The tapestry is completely ripped off, someone or something must have ripped it. "Look at this too." Greg walks over to the front row chairs. The remote sits on the floor, with the 2 n batteries popped out of the back. "Maybe she dropped it?" "Maybe, I also think she might have been intoxicated, because of the half-full wine glass." Greg and Alex finish their investigations and exit the creepy theatre room.
"Ladies and Gentleman! It is time for you and your teams to put 2 and 2 together to solve this crime." Thomas tells the guest. The 2 groups form, one forms in the study, the other the breakfast room. A light drizzle had turned the sky the color of charcoal, and Water droplets hit the pool. "Winter and I were at the morgue, it seemed to be fairly normal, the burn wounds all typical." Dave explains. "The most damaging wounds seem to be located around the torso, back, and arms." Winter finishes. The group looks suspicious of her thoughts, but Dave nods, telling them she is telling the truth. "The last known whereabouts were very creepy. She was watching Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and must have gotten up to go somewhere, maybe to bed. The curtain was ripped of, the remote was broken on the floor, and a half-filled wine glass was in the cup-holder. She might have been drunk." Greg finishes his analysis, and his group ponders his great detective skills. "Me and Sami found a rectangular cut out on the bottom of the mattress, as well as a silver, thin plate that might have been a pressure plate." Kallista informs her group. They continue to discuss the crime.
"So they still want Winter, after all she did." Katie spits. "We have what we need, we just need to piece it together." Kyle soothes. "At the morgue, her body was very burnt, more so at the torso and arms. I believe the explosive was placed around that area." "At the crime scene, A cut out in the shape of a bomb was in the mattress." "And at the last known whereabouts, the remote was dropped and broken, and the curtain was ripped off from the wall." Alex concludes his groups findings.
"My dear guest, the killer has left another classic riddle for you to uncover!" Thomas shouts, and the guest form a half circle around him, anxious for the next clue. "Many rooms fill the manor, one you need to climb a latter." There is no doubt where everyone runs to. They all dash up the steps, almost fighting their way to the top, and run to the end of the hallway upstairs. A wooden latter sits under a gap in the ceiling, leading to the attic.

Alex, Katie, and Kallista are the first people up. 8 pieces of paper sit on an old, rusted table. Each guest has made it up, and is now reading. "Find a place where the cool are laid back, or maybe you'd like a rusty old shack." Many of them whisper. Alex, Kyle, Dave and Kallista jump down the latter, followed by Katie, Sami, Greg, and Winter. Alex, Kyle, Dave and Kallista dash down the steps and head to the basement. "A place where the cool are laid back, dead bodies are cold, and laid to rest." Dave pants, Sami now follows them. Greg and Winter look outside around the pool. "Like, cool people lay around the pool?" Winter suggest, doubting herself. Meanwhile Katie runs outside, it begins to drizzle again, and she runs even faster. She reaches the old wooden shack about 1/2 a mile away from the manor. She regains her breath, and pushes the old door open. On a small shelf, a golden envelope sits, waiting to be opened. She reaches for it, and opens it. SPARED is writen in black, script lettering. "Yes!!" Katie exclaims.
Alex, Kyle, Dave, Sami and Kallista now enter the morgue, to find yet another piece of paper. "A picture is worth 6 words." They all read aloud. Dave and Kallista run out and upstairs towards the study, meanwhile Alex, Kyle and Sami each head towards the theatre room. They stare at the screen in awe as 6 words appear. "Find the explosive in Jennie's room." They all start running, however Sami cannot catch up fast enough and Alex enters the room first. A bell rings, and many of the guest groan with anger. Alex sees a small, rectangular bomb sitting in the middle of the room. "Well, this was helpful." He sighs. Words written in fancy, dark blue writing say; MATTRESS BOMB.
"Good work Mr. Alex!" Thomas pats him on the back. "My guest, you may discuss information within your rooms as you please, for I have a good surprise. Instead of getting dressed up for state your case, you may write it down on complementary paper provided in your suites. "Yes!" Sami exclaims. The guest sigh with relief. "And tomorrow, we will have a PAJAMA PARTY!" Thomas does a horrible disco dance move. "Lord o lord!" Dave laughs. Please, write down your case, and get some rest!" Thomas smiles. "Umm, actually. I found something guys, inside the rusty old shack. A spared card with no one's name on it." Katie shrugs. "Ah, well the killer clearly liked that you used your head, so you already have a spared card!" Thomas congratulates her, no one smiles. "Please, all of you, begin to state your case in written words." Thomas leaves, and so do the guest.
A peaceful night with the slight tapping of rain is all the guest have. After a long day of investigations, they are all glad to be able to sleep. But not before one important thing, writing down their case. Their ultimate conclusion of how Jennie died. Each guest leaves their note under their door, and heads to bed.
That night, rain pours down hard, and loud thunder crashes from all over. The whole house seems to shake and for a couple of minutes, the power goes out. The power flashes on and off throughout the entire night. When the guest awaken, the sky is clear again.
Kallista, Dave, Greg, and Katie are up first. Each one has their own colored pajamas. Kallista; black, Dave; light blue, Greg; yellow, Katie; green. Then Winter, Kyle, Sami and Alex follow them in. Winter; dark blue, Kyle; burgundy, Sami; orange, Alex; gold. "I must say, you all look smashing!" Thomas jokes, himself wearing white pajamas. "However I must interrupt our little get-together for a moment, for it seems one of you has blown the killer away! Good job to... Alex!" Alex gasps a little, but smiles proud. He hugs his other 7 companions and looks up a Thomas. "Let's hear the BOOM Jennie made in her final night."
"Killing Jennie was blast! As she sat quietly watching the Deathly Hallows, I planted a rectangular shaped bomb in her mattress. She had so much wine, she was drunk, and very tired. She got up, wobbled, and dropped the remote. She then staggered and ripped off the curtain of the theatre room. She managed to get up the steps, and into her room. She then collapsed on her bed. That caused the pressure plate to activate and ignite the bomb! She was then blown to smithereens. Loud and proud, your killer!"
"Alright, Katie and Alex, you both are already spared, as for the remaining 6, we shall soon see." Winter, Dave, Sami, Kallista, and Greg look nervous, meanwhile Kyle looks fairly confident he shall be spared. "Kyle, will you begin?" Thomas gestures. The other group mumbles with anger. "Few!" Kyle says sarcastically. SPARED. "Kallista, let's continue with the K's" She rips open her envelope from the other side, and flip it towards everyone else. SPARED. "Dave, now you." "Please... Please... Please..." Dave pleads. He sighs, and the black script reads SPARED. "Greg." Greg quickly whips out his card and faces it towards his group.
The bloody print reads SCARED. "Oh no Greg!" Sami cries. He does a half smile, and Thomas begins again. "Sami, you please." Her face shows a look of pure terror. She flips it over. "You're scared?!" Katie asks, puzzled. Sami cries softly into her hands, and Greg comforts her. "Winter, last but not least." She's spared yet again.
"My dearest apologies to Sami and Greg, but please, try to enjoy the party!" The guest slowly get back into the mood as time passes. They share chocolate milk, have a pillow fight, and share confessions. "I hate cake" Katie laughs. "What is wrong with you!" Dave laughs back. "Maybe one of us should confess who is the killer?" Winter half-jokes. "Maybe we should confess who we though was the killer, no harm done to anyone?" Greg suggest. Everyone nods in agreement.
"I think it's Winter." Alex confesses
"Sorry Kyle, I think it's you." Dave explains
"I suspect it's you Alex" Greg points out
"Me too." Kallista says dully
"Winter, I believe you are the killer." Katie states
"Sorry Sami, I think it's you." Kyle insist
"Odd enough, I think it's you, Kyle!" Sami almost laughs
"Kallista I never trusted you." Winter confesses
"There, now we all know." Winter finishes. It stays silent for a couple of seconds. The sunlight pours through the windows, and shines onto the pajama party. "Maybe we should go get dressed?" Katie suggest. Everyone agrees and they head up to their rooms to freshen up.
"Come quickly my dear guest, a note has been left from the killer!" Thomas shouts up the stairs. The 8 remaining guest run down the steps, almost tripping, to hear what the note says. "Today we shall play a little game, the one that fails, shall be the one that wails. Archery, Running and Equestrian, too! Hopefully the one that loses shall not be you!" Thomas stares deeply into the note. "It seems we are going to have a small little Olympics! Clothes have been left on your bed!"
The guest come back, wearing blue gym shirts and shorts. Thomas is dresses as a referee, as well as the 2 maids. "Let's begin, follow me to the outdoor area!" Thomas waves his hand, signalling the guest to follow, they do, but cautiously. They walk along a stony path, not making a single sound. "We'll begin with archery!" Thomas explains. 8 targets are set up, each around 50 feet away from a wooden post holding 8 bows, and a sheath of 2 arrows per bow. They each knock an arrow, and prepare to fire.
Katie, Kallista, and Greg each get the bulls-eye. "Very good, you 3!" They smile as the others clap. "Shall we begin track?" The athletes make their way over to the track, and begin to take their places. "To the pond and back" Thomas explains. "GO!" Thomas shouts, and they each run, faster and faster until they reach the pond. Kallista, Katie, Greg, and Kyle reach the pond first. Then comes Sami, Dave, Winter and Alex. They all begin to run back and first to cross the finish line is Greg, then Kallista, Katie, Kyle. Last is Dave, Winter and Alex.
"Where's Sami?" Katie worries. "Sami?" "Sami?" "Sami!" The guest each shout her name, and hear nothing. They take the long walk back to the pond, and her dead body draps the ground, with an arrow to the head.

The Werewolf Cheerleader
Being a cheerleader is easier than being a werewolf. Jessica Tumbleleague is a typical teenage girl who loves being a cheerleader at Moondale High. But after an encounter with a werewolf in the woods, Jessica discovers a frightening world she never thought is real. Dangerous magic, deadly fierce spirits, and other malevolent creatures. Now Jessica must fight the forces of darkness to protect her hometown while balancing her supernatural life with her high school life. But can she control the beast within herself? Note: This is a rewrite of the original with the same name. I decided to change the third-person style to first-person because I liked Jessica's voice better. She is funny and very strong. With the story only focusing on her, I can keep the mystery suspenseful and the reader can experience what Jessica is experiencing. It is a typical YA style, but it is fun to write as your main character. There are changes, but the first and second books will be similar to the third-person chapters. Let me know what you think and I hope you will enjoy this new version of the Werewolf Cheerleader. I will post the chapters every Friday in the afternoon. P.S, there is a Werewolf Cheerleader short story published in the Tales of Dungeons, All Hallows book. Titled The Werewolf Cheerleader: Castle and Ghouls. The short is also in first-person, which made me decide to change the book series into first-person. The link is below if you want to check it out. https://www.royalroad.com/amazon/B08MCS82R5
8 279Gods How I Hate Nature
While there are always choices in life, lately they’ve all tended to skew between bad, terrible, and suicidal. Tome finds himself typically choosing the latter. As if people and plants consistently trying to kill him wasn’t bad enough, he finds himself sent off to a Mage Spire along with a self-righteous other worlder (as though there were any other kind). Add to this some powerful figures in black, a sadistic instructor, an uptight law keeper, and Tome just wants to go back to his room, down a pint, and forget about everything… But, when someone starts a fight, especially someone bigger and stronger, you bide your time and strength. Before you can get revenge, you have to settle for surviving and slowly gaining power. That means accepting the most suicidal choices, doing the jobs no one else will do, always smiling, and not slitting that other worlder’s throat… (The story will incorporate comedy, but it will be a dark story. This won't be a happy, uplifting tale, but it also won't be too morose or depressing. Though if you're rooting for the other worlders, then I suppose it will be...)
