《Am I really though? (Sanderssides HumanAU)》Eight: Roman

Roman got up. He looked at the clock as he walked towards the living room area. Okay...so it was late. Like real late. Why hadn't Patton, or anyone for that matter woken him up? Roman walked around only to find Logan and Virgil asleep huddled against eachother. Why were they on the floor? Roman shook them awake.
"Guys?" He asked. Logan opened his eyes and panicked. He sat up and looked around relaxing a little but then he glanced back at the door.
"Shit...Virgil?" Logan shook Virgil awake. Virgil opened his eyes. "You didn't happen to be awake long enough to hear if he brought Patton back did you?" Virgils eyes widened and he looked towards the clock.
"Lo..." Logan's eyes widened as well.
"Guys what's happening?" Roman asked.
"Remus took Patton at around 7:30 this morning. It's now almost 10pm and there's no word from Patton or Remus..." Logan stated.
"My brother wouldn't have hurt Patton would he have...Logan you don't think he's still using that against him right?" Roman looked down. "You don't think he's still mad about Patton's dad?"
"Shit..." Logan looked at the door. "God I should have taken his place but we just let remus take him-."
"Logan relax!" Roman cried. "God I...I remember when he got sent away years ago, Patton and I we got closer after he left...Patton admitted to being so scared of Remus after awhile but Remus was his only friend so he basically did all that he said without hesitation because he was scared of losing him...you don't think-."
"He wouldn't." Logan shook his head. "He promised." Suddenly the door opened and they all looked up.
"Patton's a little...drunk." Remus chuckled.
"WHAT DID YOU MAKE HIM DO!?" roman cried.
"Just drink an entire bottle of alcohol, you know...break another promise he made not only to himself but to his dad. He won't be my friend anymore Roman, what have you said to him about me?" Remus got closer to Roman and punched him in the stomach. Roman groaned and fell to the ground.

"WHAT THE HELL REMUS!" Virgil tried to run over but Logan held him back.
"Logan, do me a favor and go check on Patton?" Remus turned to face Logan. Roman coughed and nodded his head.
"I...I don't want to leave you alone with them." Logan grabbed Virgils hand.
"Lo...please go check.." Roman coughed again. "On him."
"Virgil and janus come with me then I can't let you-."
"Aww your gonna leave Roman all alone?" Remus got closer and lifted Logan's chin.
"You won't hurt your own brother, I refuse to trust you with these kids!" Logan grabbed remuss hand. Remus raised an eyebrow.
"Really? You really think that was a good idea?" He asked. Roman stood up.
"Just let him go check on Patton with the kids, please Remus..."
"How about instead, YOU ALL SHUT UP!" Remus left the room and came back a few minutes later carrying a half conscious Patton.
"Patton!" Virgil reached for him but Remus pulled him back. "Remus please you can't hurt him anymore please he's drunk...."
"Oh hush, he's adorable when drunk." Remus laughed. Roman glared.
"Touch him I will kill you." Roman growled.
"Well, you did steal what was mine Ro. And that's not very nice." Remus cooed as Patton leaned on him more. "Isn't he so cute."
"Don't touch him!" Logan cried. Virgil quickly grabbed Patton from Remus and slowly walked to Roman who took Patton.
"Aww over protective?" Remus laughed. "Come on Lo, we've got stuff to do." Logan went to grab his hand but Janus pulled him back. "Jesus where the hell did he come from!?"
"I will not stand here and let you do this! You monster!" Janus shouted.
"Janus stop!" Virgil cried. Remus screamed.
"YOU WILL PAY FOR THAT YOU STUPID-."
"NO! Enough!" Logan cried. "Him being locked away the first time was enough! I will not let you hurt these kids ever again! You stay away from them forever!"

"Come on Lo, you deserve to be punished." Remus glared at Roman. "No supper for you three." He dragged Logan from the room. Roman immediately checked on Patton and layed him down on the couch.
"Are you alright Patt?" Roman asked. Patton started crying.
"I-I'm sorry." He started crying harder.
"Shh Patton it's okay." Roman looked at Janus and Virgil. "You two okay?"
"Will Patton be okay? What type of alcohol is in his system? Do you think water will help ease away the-."
"Janus, breathe. Patton will be alright..physically that is. He promised his dad he'd never touch alcohol ever again. His dad passed away and he told himself he'd keep his promises...." Roman looked down at his hands remembering that he also promised his dad he wouldn't date a guy ever. Roman wiped his eyes.
"Roman?" Roman looked up at Virgil. "Are you alright?"
"I just realized that I'm one of the promises Patton has broken." Roman moves hair from Patton's face.
"What do you mean?" Virgil asked. Roman laughed.
"Patton told his dad, after Remus basically forced him to come out, that he was gay. His dad didn't accept that and they got into a fight and Patton promised his dad he'd never ever date a guy. God I'm so stupid these promises no matter how stupid they were meant a lot to Patton after his dad passed, no matter how horrible his father was I let him be and I wanted him to be happy and keep his promises why did I not think of this one..."
"Maybe because you and Patton are in love roman. What did remus mean you took what was his?" Janus asked. Roman looked down at Patton again.
"Remus...had a crush on Patton." Roman played with Patton's hair. "When we were in high school him and Patton were caught skipping class, remus had alcohol and of course Patton accidentally drank some. His dad was so angry with Patton and Remus that he got Remus sent away..."
"Roman, this isn't your fault." Virgil said. Roman laughed.
"Remus is punishing everyone I love, he's evil. I know this isn't my fault what he did to Patton but I just wish I could have stopped it..." Roman wiped tears from his eyes. "I hope he never does this again."
"It'll be okay, Patton just needs rest he'll be okay." Virgil smiled. "He'll be okay."
"He'll be okay..." Roman repeated. "Okay wait...when did you kids last eat something?"
"Urm...like....right before I left the hospital." Virgil said.
"I...when Remus kidnapped me." Janus looked away. "You Roman?" Roman looked down.
"Uhm...same." He sighed. "I'm more worried about you kids than myself right now..."
"I'll be fine." Virgil replied quickly. "Besides, even if I did eat he'd probably make me throw it up again."
"Virgil...how much did the hospital say you weighed?" Janus asked.
"101..." virgil looked down sadly.
"VIRGIL THATS SO UNHEALTHY!" Roman cried.
"I know, I'm sorry but after everything I couldn't...he just kept making me throw it back up I couldn't bring myself to eat knowing I wouldn't be able to keep it down at all." Virgil looked at the door. "I'm just scared he'll make me keep throwing up until I fade away into nothing...."
"I'm so sorry Virgil." Roman stood up and walked over pulling him into a hug. "We'll keep you safe I promise."
"You promise?" Virgil asked. Janus smiled.
"I promise." Boy he would regret that one.

Vast Asleep
The story of Kingard the Binder in the aftermath of Broken This short story is the epilogue of Broken, the second book of the Chronicles of Mother's Gate series. It’s a great follow-up to the novel, a bonus story that adds extra layers but is set apart from the full-length narrative. Vast Asleep follows the story of Kingard, who finds himself caught in a world called Mother's realm, bathed in glowing light but strangely stuck in place. He encounters his greatson Varyan there, and learns that his experiences are likely dreams. As he grows more accustomed to the loving realm around him, Kingard remembers fear and trepidation about the face of the world, and he loses contact with his companion. This story answers the question, Is Kingard really dead? with a tentative no, and new mysteries brewing. It also raises the question, What's happening while he's awake? and includes an excerpt from the sister story Ride Awake, about Kingard's situation with the Colkh'rak. Praise for Tales of the Known World Bookends: Loved it. The difference between the two stories is great! The difference between the epilogue and prologue is astounding. So much light and love in the first story. You feel safe reading it. Healing. The second, so much darkness, pain and despair. The choice of vocabulary is awesome and makes an impact. And this set of short stories ties the two books together so well. -- Dana V. of Texas ★★★★★
