《Pied Piper | {K.NJ}》Chapter 12

You thanked Namjoon when he passed you a cup of coffee.
It was a Saturday and Seokjin had to go for work half-day while Jimin needed to attend a family gathering. You had nothing better to do so you decided to drop by at Namjoon's house. Only because you were bored, no other intentions.
You were surprised by Namjoon's appearance when he answered the door. His clothes were smeared with paint. There was some on his face and his hair was a bit messy.
So, currently, you stayed seated on the chair beside him in the art room or so he called it as you watched him paint. It was the first time you had seen his paintings this close. There were several hanging on the wall and some leaning against the wall. At the side was a bookshelf which was filled with books, paint brush holders, photo albums and cute figurines.
When you came in, you didn't see Min anywhere so you asked him and he told you that Min often goes around the neighbourhood all the time, probably to find new targets.
"He helps you find targets?"
"More like he sets the targets. He makes sure they are experienced in love and at a certain age. He wouldn't want to crush someone's first love or bring pain to another. He, himself, feels guilty for this. That's why when you came the first time, I was actually confused."
"Does this mean Min didn't plan on choosing you as a Pied Piper?"
"Rather than choose. It was a mistake. A play of fate you can say."
You didn't really understand what that meant but going deeper into that topic would just confuse you even more. So you decided to ask him something else. One that you had been curious all this while.
"Why do you have to play the flute?"
"I don't have much of a choice?"

"That child didn't do anything wrong."
Seokjin glanced up from his book and pushed his glasses up on his nose. He was at the Hoseok's cafe with Min and of course Min was in his original form. He wouldn't want to look crazy, talking to a cat at his friend's cafe although Hoseok wouldn't really care but others would.
"I know but how do I start?"
"Just say it."
"Wow great advice, mr devil. So I'm like supposed to tell her I'm the angel of life and you are the devil of death. And somehow this kinda thing had happened for a while and it is about time to solve things because I kind of found the person again. Right. Perfect. As if she would believe me."

"She's seen Namjoon playing the flute with music notes floating in the sky and eyes glowing and she's seen me, a talking cat. Besides don't you feel tired pretending to leave for salary work when you are actually going around to take care of humans' life? At least think for Namjoon?"
Seokjin looked down at the coffee in his cup and thought about it. He groaned and pulled his hair out in frustration. He just couldn't do it.
"Look. The sooner the better. She'll find out soon anyways."
"I know...but I'm afraid she will hate me."
"She won't. That child is different. She'll understand."
"I hope so too."
••••••••••••••••••<>••••••••••••••••••
"What do you mean by that?"
Namjoon peeked at you from the side of his eyes and then focused on his painting again.
"Well, if I don't play the flute and get a target, my heart will break. It's either break or be broken."
You looked at him with wide eyes. You did know that he was rather forced into performing his duty but you didn't know that this was the reason behind it.
"Is there a way to stop it?"
"Well, we've been finding one."
This meant that they hadn't find one yet. You looked down as you felt bad. He noticed your expression and let out a small sigh. He placed his brush down and patted your head.
"Don't worry. I'll make sure I won't have to break hearts anymore because I don't want to keep playing the flute and make you not be able to sleep."
"Have you ever tried not playing it? Besides the time you caught a cold?"
"Yes I did. I didn't play for a few days and I ended up at the hospital."
"T-the hospital?!"
You looked at him in shock and he just chuckled. He nodded his head to answer your question.
"It showed up as heart tumor on the result but obviously we all knew it was the process of cracking the heart. The Doctors couldn't figure it out so they just thought it was cancer."
You glanced up at him and he smiled at you, assuring you that it's alright.
"Instead of talking about that, why don't you go look around? I'll be taking time to complete this painting though. You'll get bored just watching me paint."
"I don't mind watching you paint."
He blinked his eyes and looked at you. Soon, a suspicious looking grin formed on his face, making you regret what you said instantly.
"I take that back," you said as you rolled your eyes and he chuckled.
You stood up and walked around the room. You admired the paintings that were laying around in the room and one actually caught your eyes. It was on the floor, leaning against the wall so you knelt down to get a closer look.

It was a painting of a boy playing a flute under the moonlight. The boy didn't look anything like Namjoon. He had black hair, pale skin and small framed. It was just a silhouette so you couldn't really tell how he looks like.
"Did you paint this too?"
Namjoon paused painting and tilted his head to pay attention to you. You pointed at the painting and he studied it for a while before shaking his head.
"I didn't paint that one. That belongs to Min."
"He paints?"
"Ah no. It was given to him by someone important."
You formed an 'o' with your lips and returned to study the painting again. You figured that the boy in the painting must be Min.
"Is this his original form?"
"You can say that. He's a devil but he's not really hideous looking. You could say he's actually pretty cute."
You nodded your head and then stood up to find something else to keep you entertained. You walked towards the shelf and checked the figurines. Your eyes landed on the photo albums and you looked at Namjoon, seeking for permission. He beckoned you to proceed.
You took the albums out and carried them with you as you sat down on the floor so that you could look at them comfortably. You spread them around you and started going through them one by one. You couldn't help but smile as you saw pictures of little Namjoon.
"You were so cute."
"I'm still cute but not as cute as little kitten."
You gave him a look and he grinned at you with his dimples flashing on the side of his cheeks. You shook your head as you laughed and continued to check the photos.
You noticed that there were no pictures of his parents in any of the photos. There was only another boy in the photo. Someone you didn't know. He had a brown hair, big round eyes, innocent and looked like a bunny.
"If it's not a burden, may I ask you about your parents?"
"I don't have parents."
You apologised immediately and he shook his head to tell you that's not what he meant.
"I did tell you I'm a human but I'm different."
Your ears pricked and you turned to pay attention to him fully.
"I'm a gift to an angel by the Gods."
••••••••••••••••••<>••••••••••••••••••
Min took a sip of coffee and placed the cup down. He folded his arms across his chest and tilted his head.
"Are you worried about her?"
Seokjin nodded and played with his fingers nervously. He was still unsure of how to inform you.
Both of them were still at Hoseok's cafe although it was closing time. Hoseok didn't mind though. They had ordered several cups of coffee which meant more cash flowing in for him but he was rather concerned by the serious atmosphere they were giving off and also Min had been staring at him for quite a while.
"Why don't you ask the grim reaper then?"
Hoseok's eyes widened. He turned around to look if there was anyone who heard. Luckily there was no one and he let out a sigh of relief. He glared at Min and pouted.
"Don't bring me in this."
"Who would have thought such a bundle of sunshine is a grim reaper, an acquaintance of mine?"
Hoseok cleared his throat and reached to take another set of empty cups from their table. He glanced at Seokjin who was sitting there, feeling unsure of what to do.
"Hyung... I think you should just tell her. I'm sure she will understand."
••••••••••••••••••<>••••••••••••••••••
You stared at Namjoon, feeling confused about what he had said. Your brain was not processing it really well. It's not because you couldn't accept the fact but it just felt weird hearing it.
"A gift?"
"You see I'm created by Gods and did not really go through the you know normal procedure that occurs between the parents before giving birth. I'm a human because I have warm blood flowing through my veins but I can't say I'm normal."
"I see..."
"You don't really seemed affected by it."
"I guess too many things had been going on and this was kind of expected in a way?"
Namjoon let out a small chuckle and nodded in agreement. You continued flipping through the pages and noticed that the little boy with brown hair was almost always part of the photos.
"Who is this boy?"
You lifted the photo album up for him to see and pointed at the photo which had the picture of the boy who was together with him.
"Oh he's Min's gift."
You brought the album down to observe it for a while but as you lowered it, a photo fell off. You were about to ask more question about the boy but stopped when you picked up the photo that dropped.
You held it in your hand and you felt like everything just went blank. You felt like there was a lump in your throat as you couldn't believe what you were seeing.
"W-when was this taken?"
Namjoon stopped painting and looked at you. His eyes fell on the photo that you were holding and he gasped in shock.
"T-that is..."
"Why is it that my brother look exactly the same even though this was years ago?"

Essentia Animus
Second Book of the Soul - Celesi Veil Trilogy When the living essence of three girls are put at risk, giving room for a second essence within themselves, even their hyper developed fantasy world might not be enough to contain their new found ambitions. Another story of another world, these three girls must adapt to their new essence, all while each is left to question if they are truly still even alive. While this story is a sequel of the previous story in the trillogy, it is also fully capable of standing alone in its own light, taking place in a distant corner of a Celese returning readers will be otherwise incapable of recognizing. However, the events of the story are a spoiler for the previous book, in case that matters to anyone. This story takes place over two centuries after the events of Vitae Memorandum, when Celese had developed into an advanced world, improved to a point that it is much like modern-day Earth while still using the gift instead of technology. The Aethyx languages are still present in this book, and even English still exists in the world after the events of the previous book, but are much less of a focus after the same closing events of the previous book. What is instead important is how the ending events of the previous book had resulted in the start of the Instrumentation Era, and exactly how the gift translates in a modern-day sense. While this book is still effectively a fantasy world of its own kind of magic, it isn’t the classical medieval scene that would be typical for such a story. The laws of science still do not exist in Celese, but that didn’t stop it from developing into something that looks similar enough. Earth itself still remains present on the other side of the veil, and its previous exposure continues to shape and advance Celese into the world it has become. This story contains scenes exibiting mania and similar dark themes, as it goes to great length to explore concepts of life and death. While the degree of such themes should not be considered to be as serious compared to matters such as actual horror, the psychological depth is still siginifcant enough to be potentially concerning for people sensitive to matters of this nature, such as any individuals with concerns questioning matters of suicide, mental harm, or a variety of emotional injuries. While none of these subjects actually occur in the story, readers who are currently troubled by such matters may find themselves considering old wounds if they are especially capable of empathy while reading, which could lead to furthered emotional or mental stress. Readers with a high capacity for empathy may find themselves troubled by concerns regarding any potential lack of mental/emotional control as well as considerations regarding the meaning of death. Readers who appreciate subtle dark themes in a story may instead find this to be an interesting twist of the same idea.
