《Pied Piper | {K.NJ}》Chapter 7

You sat in your room, trying to put the puzzles together but it was not summing up to your liking. The pieces just wouldn't fit.
After Namjoon told you that his flute was not his, all the theories that you managed to come up with were proven wrong and you would need to reanalyse the entire situation again.
You thought of the moment with Namjoon a few minutes ago. You asked him to let you meet that person or at least tell you who that person is but he just told you to give him some time. You knew it was no use trying to force him to tell you so you just decided to put it aside for the time being.
He's way too secretive.
You took your bag out and realised the shopping bag on your bed that had been laying since you went up to your room. You got up and grabbed it.
You saw the yoghurt and face masks that he had added in. You sighed as you took those out. You couldn't help but smile as you thought of him.
"He must've felt guilty."

Namjoon was on his way back home after sending you off. He was having a good mood since he got to see you. He just find you adorable and interesting to stay with. However, his good mood was kind of ruined when he saw a familiar lady waiting for him in the middle of the pathway.
"Kim Namjoon. How could you do this?"
'Not this again.' He thought to himself as he rolled his eyes before heading over to her with a fake smile.

It was a torture for him. He had to stand there for almost an hour, listening to her cry and complain. He knew this was the aftermath of breaking one's heart but to go through this everyday was hell for him.
Sometimes it's just words, sometimes it gets physical like he gets slapped although he always managed to dodge it.
It's not that he enjoys what he's doing but it was his duty. He was fated to do it so he had no other choice.
Obviously he felt bad to see the effects of what he had done to them but he couldn't relate to their pain. He was just doing his job. He didn't care about feelings. He was taught that way.
He finally managed to leave after the girl balled her eyes out and decided that she was done.
"I'm home," he said but didn't receive a reply. He never received a reply but there would be a noise to welcome him back. However, there was none today.

He walked around the house and searched. He stood in the hallway and folded his arms, trying to figure out the situation, after scanning the entire house.
"That's strange."
He scratched his head and shrugged his shoulders. Instead of just wondering about, he decided to head to his room and wash up.
After he had completely finished doing whatever he had to, he sat in his room with the flute on his table. It was going to be night time soon which meant that he would have to perform his duty.
He wondered who his target would be tonight and the thought of playing the flute reminded him of you.
He wet his lips as he gave it a serious thought. He wasn't sure if he should do it but he knew it was the best way.
"Well, the earlier the better."
He grabbed the flute and got ready to start.
••••••••••••••••••<>••••••••••••••••••
You prepared dinner for the night while Seokjin rushed back home and went up to wash up. He apologised for being so late and you gave him a sweet smile, telling him it was fine.
The two of you had a quiet dinner and a rather rushed one as Seokjin had to make an important video conferencing with his clients.
You just washed the dishes, wiped your hands and turned on the TV which was showing your Favourite drama. You just let it play as you took out your notebook and tried to make sense as you read the things you had written about Pied Piper but of course nothing popped up in your brain.
It was the usual timing again when the flute sound entered your ears. It was rather bearable at first unlike the other times. Maybe it was because you had gotten used to it but the fact that your heart still beats like crazy was not something you could ignore.
As you continued listening to it, you found the music quite strange. It was definitely different from the other times. This one was strangely calming and you didn't feel that strange sensation that makes you want to follow the sound. Rather this forced you to think of him.
You wondered how he looked like when he's playing the flute. You thought of his face, his eyes, his smile, his dimples... basically him. You wanted to see him so badly as if you haven't just seen him a few hours ago.
You tried to control the temptation for a while but it just made your heart ached. This was a different feeling so you weren't able to adjust to it. You closed your eyes shut and breathed in and out slowly.

You counted down to three as you did that and once you reached three, you opened your eyes and stood on your feet.
You glanced at your brother's room upstairs and you confirmed that he was still busy with his work when you heard him talking to whoever that was. You headed to the front door and without making any noise, you left the house to head over to his.
••••••••••••••••••<>••••••••••••••••••
You knew the tracks as usual. This would be your third time heading to Namjoon's house because of that flute sound but this would be the first time you were heading because you wanted to see him.
Although the flute was mainly responsible for this decision, there was a small part of you that wanted to watch him play his flute as well.
You were about to head straight to his house when you saw a lady, dressed in her nightwear you supposed, going there. You hid behind the wall that cornered his house and watched her walk towards his house.
She seemed rather controlled. She didn't look like she had her conscious because her eyes were lacking in focus and her steps seemed way too timely perfect for a normal human.
She stopped in front the gates, not moving at all to open it. She just stood there as if she was waiting for someone. And as expected, Namjoon appeared from the dark, still playing his flute. He was approaching towards her but he didn't stand too close.
He paused playing for a bit and you could clearly see him smirk before he placed his mouth on the lip part and blew into the embouchure hole.
You noticed the certain change in the atmosphere. It felt cooler than before but not enough to make you shiver. Also, he was no longer playing the piece he was before. This one was the usual one. The one that caused you sleepless nights.
You wondered what the difference was and why he decided to play it. But that was not the most important thing right now. What you saw was extremely amazing and unbelievable.
The flute was literally glowing and music notes were flying out of it. It was floating in the air and surrounding the girl who still didn't seem to have regained her conscious.
You gasped and couldn't seem to take your eyes off the sight. You were not able to make sense to anything you were saying and you couldn't form the right words to describe what you were feeling.
You didn't know if you were just too shocked or too amazed but you knew one thing for sure. Nothing about Namjoon was normal. You were convinced that he may not even be human from how he looked currently.
He was wearing normal clothes; white shirt and black pants but he didn't look even one bit close to human. His eyes were literally shimmering in blue which you knew were totally black just a few hours ago.
The setting just made everything more magical. The moon was right behind him and the moonlight shone only at him as if it was a spotlight and he was performing a show.
The girl stretched her arm out to him and the musical notes that were surrounding her got closer to each other, closing the gap in between each line and disappeared when Namjoon finished playing and bowed.
The moment he was done, the girl collapsed onto the ground but he managed to pick her before she did. His eyes were back to black and there was no more moonlight. The show was over and you just saw the best flute performance in your life.
Namjoon carried the girl in bridal style and looked at your side. You automatically shifted to hide and you didn't know why you did that. You were about to turn back to him when a black cat ran past you and you got distracted.
You saw the cat stopped and looked at you for a while. It's eyes were yellow and rather intimidating yet kind. The two of you had an eye contact which was very weird until it turned around and returned to heading off somewhere it planned to from the start.
Only after it disappeared from your view that you remembered about Namjoon. You looked at his direction but he was gone and so was the girl.
Everything was just too shocking for you to accept. It wasn't that you weren't expecting that Namjoon might not be human. He totally didn't look like one but you couldn't confirm that yet. But you were definitely not expecting to see such a show.
This is getting way too interesting for you that you couldn't ignore it any longer.
No matter how dangerous things get, you will definitely figure it out. Figure out why your heart just had to pound so crazily because of this sweet sound of the flute despite not being the target.

Shadows in the Dawn Mist
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] - Winner November 2020 When a young woman is lured back to her homeland for the opportunity of a life time, she must face old fears. But never would she think that facing up to her past would change everything. Is History written by the victors, or by someone or something else...? *** I started writing this a few years ago and eventually fell out of love with it. I never finished it and my newer books are being written in different writing style, and genre with a more planned process. I decided to revisit it for the writathon and found that it wasn't as hopeless as I'd come to think. Hopefully, I've improved as a writer since them so the consistency may vary. Its been good to revisit and analyse my writing which I feel used to have some clunky and obvious dialogue which I'm trying to fix. This will always be my first novel and I hope, with a little exposure, I may come to like it again. Thanks for reading!

Then look no further than the daily life of a cultivation judge. Yang Qing, is a young genius cultivator from a low-tier family whose only safe choice to get resources and hopefully lead an easy life led him to the courts of the Cultivation Order Society. Author’s disclaimer: Hey there this is my first novel so any criticism will be well taken though beware I’m a million-year-old monster who has cultivated the way of the sword to the peak. The daily life of a cultivation judge will be true to its name so it will be heavily on the slice of life lane with a bit of action here and there.Meaning we will see the life of Yang Qing when he clocks in and out. Hopefully, it will be one of those novels you read if you need to relax or are in a slacker mood like one of those otakus who listen to the noises of cicadas in the summer famously used in most animes. And it is in the slacker spirit that chapter release will be on Wednesday,Thursday and Friday. Sank yuuu Cover art by Conny Schneider on Unsplash
