《Edge of Glory | Supergirl 1》Chapter 8

"You're going on a date with that desk troll?"
Leah rolled her eyes at her mother's outburst, "Mom, he's cute and really sweet. He has a job, working for you, by the way. So if you want to do a full background check like usual go ahead."
"Last time it was that girl from Greece, and before that, that boy from Spain." Kat waved her hand, packing her suitcase, "Why don't I have a butler or something do this."
"Because you're independent and a raging feminist."
"Correct." Kat smiled up at her adoptive daughter, pushing her 'light' luggage for a day event. "Well... Uh, sweetie, are you-do you really like this boy?"
"I mean." Leah sat down on her mother's bed, "He's very cute, like an attractive older guy kind of cute, and you know how I like nerdy guys, and may I repeat, he is sweet."
"I understand that, but I don't want you leading on another guy." Kat sighs, sitting down beside her daughter, leaning her head against Leah's shoulder, "Before I leave, remember to check in on your brother."
"I know, I know. Kara is babysitting him." Leah waves her hand, moving up to head out to her date, "I need to get dressed for my date."
"What kind of date is it? He's poor, so I'm assuming something cheap."
"Wouldn't know, I said it was completely fine for him to decide."
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Katie stared at her brother oddly, watching him trip around the apartment, playing with the bracelet on her wrist, "What in the world are you doing?"
"I have a date."
"With who?" Katie raised an eyebrow at him, knowing damn well that Kara was not the female that was currently making him so frazzled.
"Leah."
"Kat Grant's adoptive daughter, the other Kryptonian in your life?" Katie burst out in laughter, "You're joking right?" She noticed the long pause, "Oh my God you're not. Really? She said yes to you."
"She actually asked me out."
Katie choked on her own saliva, "Wow! You finally have a date."
"Coming from you."
"Touche." Katie sneered, then falling back on the couch, almost lighting it on fire from her bracelet. "Oops."
"I thought they said that bracelet would stop your powers."

Katie rubbed the back of her head, "Well, they said it might have a couple of bugs."
Winn looked at her, backing up ever so slightly, "Okay."
"Where are you bringing her?"
"Well..." Winn winced, "I, uh, haven't thought of that."
"You need to think of it, isn't your date in a-" Katie checked her watch, "A half an hour. Bro, you're actually fucked."
Winn's eyes widened, flinging into his room, "KATIE HELP ME!"
"Bring her to a restaurant or something. Like, do you even have the money to be bringing her on a fancy date?"
"Do I look like I've got a money?"
"Good point." Katie messes with her hair, "Well, do you know enough about her?"
"I need to know! I want to know." Winn cries out from his room, coming out in his normal attire. "Please, I need help."
"Bring her out to a cafe, a simple date. Get to know each other, and then actually spend money on the girl."
"That's not something I was expecting from a girl."
"Should I light your hair on fire?" Katie snapped.
"No, I think I'm good." Winn checked his watch, "I need to go get Leah."
"Have fun." Katie laughs, "Bring protection!"
"Shut up!"
"Love you!" Katie calls back, her eyes falling back on her bracelet. "Damn, I need to go back to the DEO."
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Leah grinned at the small cafe that Winn brought her too, "This place is absolute-"
"I know, I know. It's cheap, but Katie-"
"Winn." Leah stopped him, "I was going to say it was absolutely adorable and I love it. I hate fancy schmancy restaurants, even if I grew up on Krypton."
Winn had a mental sigh of relief, "H-how was it? Uh, growing up on Krypton?"
"I..." Leah pondered how to answer the question, "Well, it was actually pretty boring. I came from a prestige family, and most of my time was being spent trying to negotiate a peace with Daxam, our twin planet."
"You were a child, why would you be negotiating?"
"Well, technically I was used in negotiations."
It clicked inside of Winn as he released a long 'oh', "Arranged marriage? Were they that desperate to fix things?"

"We've always had problems with them. It was really awkward too since the Prince was like twice my age, but I was meant to be wed once I hit sixteen, which would have been in a few years."" Leah stared at the menu, "You think we can just get ice cream? I really want sweets."
"No, no problem, I was actually really craving ice cream, but I wanted to be courteous."
Leah released a small laugh, "No need if you want ice cream just say something, because I love sweets, and am totally chill with going straight to that instead of dinner."
"THERE'S BEEN AN EXPLOSION! SUPERGIRL-"
Leah released a sigh, "I guess we've got to postpone this huh?"
Winn smiled, "Next time I'll bring you to an ice cream parlor."
"I get to choose which one then." Leah bends over and gives Winn a kiss on the cheek, she pulled away with a grin, fixing her glasses, "See you later."
"And I'll see you on T.V. in a couple minutes."
Leah ran outside, pulling her top off over her head, her glasses came off as she flew to where her cousin was. "Supergirl!"
"Captain Marvel." Kara released a sigh of relief, "A little help."
Captain Marvel flew into Kara's spot, holding up the building, still having trouble with it, but was able to keep it up as Kara repaired the inside. "Hurry."
"It's harder than it looks."
"So is holding up this building."
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Katie pulled at her bracelet, looking at Kara and Leah, "You were supporting the weight of 120 pounds per square foot, multiplied by five floors. Not bad."
Leah moved her bangs from her hair, messing with her suit, "Why would someone plant a bomb in that building? What was in there?"
"A lab developing a new, non-lithium battery. Cutting edge."
Katie nodded her head, "Could be industrial espionage."
"This might be one to let the FBI handle." Henshaw sighs.
Alex shook her head, "I don't think we want to do that, sir. These are fragments from the bomb. I found the exact same technology inside the drone Kara and Leah brought in yesterday."
"So whoever was spying on us was also behind the bombing?" Kara questions.
"Yes."
Katie cringed, "I think I have a lead."
"Maxwell Lord?" Alex asks.
"Yeah."
"Both the bomb and the drone used an advanced fiber optics relay system. It's not even on the market yet. And it was developed by Lord Technologies. I would know, this man tried to get me to join his company."
"He flirts with my mother." Leah gagged, "And me."
Katie nods, "Yeah, he does that."
"Let's pay Maxwell Lord a visit."
Kara stopped Alex, "Wait, how? You can't just walk in as DEO agents."
"We won't."
"Okay..." Kara was shocked when Alex pulled out a blank badge and watched it change into an FBI badge, "That is cool."
Alex took off, paused and turned around, "Katie, you're coming with me, you need some field practice."
"What?" Katie glanced at Henshaw, who gave her a nod of approvement, "O-okay."
"I have to get back to work." Kara states, watching as her sister and best friend leave the DEO.
Leah smirked, "And, by "work," do you mean James?"
"No." Leah chuckled at Kara's response, "Especially not now. His ex showed up. Lucy Lane."
Leah paused, "As in Lois Lane? Our cousin's girlfriend?"
"Her sister. She's gorgeous, she's smart... smells nice. Hell, I want to date her."
"Well, was she out saving the world?"
"She's a lawyer for the military, so, yes."
"Can she fly?" Leah nudged her, the grin not leaving her face.
Kara sighs, feeling hopeless, "I wouldn't be surprised."
"But if James broke up with her and then moved all the way out to National City, then why would he want to get back together with her?"
"He told me she broke up with him."
"No." Leah states, "No, no, do not talk to James about her. That is a first-class one-way ticket to the Friend Zone."
"I am not in the Friend Zone."
"You've spent more time in the Friend Zone than the Phantom Zone. Okay? You're that girl. You always want to help, so you... listen to their girlfriend troubles, and... Instead of being the girlfriend. Right. Kara, you've had to pretend to be someone else for most of your life. But you don't have to hide with James. He knows your secret and he likes you. Besides, what kind of idiot would choose Lucy Lane over Supergirl?"
Kara pushes her cousin, "I've missed you."
Leah gave her a side hug, "Right back at you. I'll meet you at work, I need to take a pitstop."
"To meet with Winn."
Leah nods, "Yeah, I said I'd walk with him to Catco."
"Have fun." Kara sang.

Eleknar's Heir, The Infernal Prince (Demonic LitRPG)
A LitRPG and Epic Fantasy adventure: The son of a mafia boss finds himself abruptly plunged into an alternate world where he must find a way to survive the horrors of a realm called Oblivion, make pacts with demons, form unnatural friendships, and figure out what the hell is going on – all while dealing with the depressing reality of his past. An artificial intelligence has ascended into godhood and has thrown Trey’s home into Chaos, pulling millions of people into an enchanted new life... or, in Trey's case, a violent nightmare. As far as he can tell, he is locked into what the system prompts call a ‘Death Game.’ Here, artificial reality is manufactured for the enjoyment of a being called the All Spirit, and he has a very real chance of truly dying. Just how real is this place though? Is it merely a simulation, a realistic game of life and death… or is it something much more? Elves, dwarves, undead, and other races only thought to exist in fairy tales are now a reality. Black magics, pantheons of gods at odds with one another, predatory symbiotes, and an unholy calling, the significance of which he has yet to grasp, are all entangled with his fate. ============================================ ============================================ Some things to expect when reading this book series: - Brutal storyline where no character is safe and choices have real consequences. Heavy on action, survival, and adventure - An isekai. The main character struggles to find himself, repeatedly crossing the line between good and evil as other important characters influence his life - Harem (explicit), though this only starts about 180k words in. - Good amounts of crafting, town building, and guild building later on - Good amounts of fantasy-related LitRPG stats, rank ups, and evolutions. Heavy focus on demons and black magics - There will be many points of view, but there is only one primary/main character that takes up 90% of the POV - A long storyline. Currently (as of 7/26/2021) I have about 1500k words written, though much of it will have to be heavily edited and re-written. I also plan to go far beyond 1500k words if people like the story (A lot of it is also in the 'backstories' book that explores the guildmates, the link is below) - Chapters will have an average of about 4k-5k words, a little longer than most other books on RR, though there will be exceptions for more and less. I just didn't like posting chapters that didn't feel complete, and 2k words often felt like too little. - If you like super-heroic and goody-goody characters, this story is not for you. ***Updated once a week***
