《Edge of Glory | Supergirl 1》Chapter 7

Leah flew beside Kara, swirling in the air, making Kara surprised since Leah was able to fly without the help of a cape. Leah smiled over at Kara, catching up to her, "You said I'd need a lot of practice."
"I guess I was wrong." Kara laughs, but notices something red on Leah's suit, "What?"
Leah turns her head to see a drone, but once the drone notices the two girls had spotted it, it flew off. Kara races after it, almost forgetting that Leah was beside her, but luckily the other blonde was able to keep up, even though she had little to no training. Kara uses her laser vision to ignite the drone and explode. Leah dove down and caught a piece of it.
Leah flew back up next to Kara, "Is the DEO following us?"
Kara took it, shaking her head, "You've got to be kidding me."

Katie groans, pulling herself off the floor, feeling an intense pain in her back. She forced herself to face Agent Vasquez again, her fists up to cover her face. "Again."
"You sure? We've been going at it for a good three hours." Agent Vasquez put her hands down, "You're tired, Schott, and you need a break."
"No." Katie yells, "I need to learn how to control whatever the hell is happening to me!" As she screams out in exasperation, a bright light engulfs her wrist down, flames erupting from her palms and creating a blast of fire around her, eyes blazing red. Vasquez jumps back from the flames, before it could harm her, she stood in shock, eyes wide as she looked up at Katie.
Katie wrapped her arms around her body, stopping the flames from coming. "I'm sorry! I-I didn't know I could do that."
"That must be part of your solar manipulation." Vasquez glanced down to the floor as she spoke to Katie, the charred ground around them was pitch black, "Let's get you away from the sun, maybe it'll stop you from absorbing power."
Katie rubbed her arms, blinking a few times as the red flares down to it's normal brown. "I don't think that's the case, I was able to use these powers from just absorbing a radiation blast. What if I could absorb radiation from a microwave, or-"
"Schott, you're overthinking it, let the scientists and doctors figure out what's going on, for now you just need to learn how to control your... powers."
"Powers." Katie scoffs, "Powers, this was literally forced upon me by some crazy man in an elevator."

"We've already told you who did this to you." Vasquez states.
"And he mysteriously died!" Katie exclaims, throwing her hands in the air, "Some wannabe scientist fucked up my life because his corporation didn't go well, STAR Labs." Katie belittles, "It's a pretty cool idea, becoming a superhero, but then I remember that I light things on fire!" She lifts her hand and a flame surrounds it, but she controls herself and makes the flame disappear by shutting shutting her fist. "When can I go to work? Miss Grant has emailed me about how annoyed she is that I took a 'vacation'."
"Director Henshaw says that you'll be allowed to leave once we are sure you won't cause harm to civilians."
"That could take days, months, years!" Katie groans, "My brother is doing double at work, he's taken my load because Miss Grant was so mad about me leaving for a short time, short time, may I repeat. She expects me to be back once my vacation days end."
"Then let's hope you get your powers down."
"Then let me practice again."
"You-" Vasquez points at Katie, "-need to eat and regain your strength for now. Then we'll continue your training. You were so excited at first."
"At first." Katie repeats, "At first I thought it was pretty cool until I lit my room on fire because I got scared while watching a film."
Agent Vasquez cringed, thinking of her own room lighting on fire, "I understand you do not like your situation, but the faster you learn to control this-"
"Yeah, yeah." Katie waved her hand, leaving the room, Vasquez following behind her easily, but noticed how Katie's shoulders were slumped.
"Thought we'd return this to you." Leah dumped the technology on the table, Katie's eyes falling on it. Kara gave Katie a small wave, which she responded with a nod.
"I thought we were clicking," Kara says.
Henshaw raised an eyebrow at the two super blondes, "Okay..."
"People who click don't spy on each other!" Leah exclaims.
"If I were following you, Ms. Danvers, Ms. Grant, you would never know about it. This is..." He lifted the drone, "Not one of ours."
"Then whose is it?"
Katie took it from them, making Henshaw surprised that the small girl would take the initiative, "There are no marking, but I've seen this tech before."
"Alien origin? Possibly Astra's?" Henshaw questions, ignoring Katie's statement.
Alex shakes her head, "No, Katie is right, this is from earth, not alien. It's incredibly advanced, though, Katie how do you recognize it?"

"I was pursued to work at some place, which I completely forgot about, I followed my brother in his field instead of taking the job." She tilts it around, "This is extremely advanced, jeez."
"Yeah, no kidding. That thing was like trying to swat a fly in a tornado."
Hank snatches it from Katie, "If someone is targeting two of my assets, I want to know who it is. We'll handle this."
"You can trust him, Kara."
"I hope you're right." Kara turned to Katie, "You all right here?"
"Yeah." Katie rubbed the side of her arm, "As alright as I can be."
Kara smiled kindly at her friend, "I'm sure you'll get the hang of your powers soon."
"Hopefully."

Winn holds the phone to his ear, wincing as the woman spoke to him, "Please don't yell at me, this isn't my job."
Kara pulled over him and took the phone, "Cat Grant's office, this is Kara."
"Please, do not make me cover phones for you ever again."
Leah laughs, "How about I make it up to you? How about we have dinner sometime?"
Winn's eyes widen, "L-like a d-date?"
Leah raises an eyebrow at him, "Yeah, like a date."
Winn tugs at the collar of his shirt when Kara suddenly exclaims, "Ms. Grant won the Siegel Prize for Women in Media!"
"Oh yeah." Leah mumbled, "She already knows."
Winn nods, "I didn't know that she could smile... if it wasn't based on cruelty to others."
Leah rolled her eyes, lightly pushing Winn, "The ceremony is going to be in Metropolis tonight."
"I better book a plane right away."
"I didn't tell you about it because I knew you would have this reaction. I know you think it's a stupid award, Mother, but I won it. I don't ask for very much. Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize that it was such a burden being a grandmother.Keira!"
Leah and Kara recoil back, "Ow."
Kara ran into the office, leaving Leah alone with Winn, who suddenly remembered that she asked him on a date. "So... Uh..."
"You're not getting out of the date." Leah states suddenly, making Winn jump, he just wished his sister was here, she always helped him in these kind of situations, or embarrass him.
"Well, uh, what are we going to do."
"Dinner." Leah says simply, "But if it helps, we can go somewhere simple, not extravagant."
"That will... will be nice." Winn smiles down at her, now realizing that Leah was a couple inches shorter than he was.
"It's a date."
Kara came walking over to Leah, "Uh... so I'm babysitting your brother tonight."
"Carter?" Leah questions, "Why? What happened to the nanny?"
"Broke her ankle." Kara answers, "I just couldn't let Miss Grant not go get that award after the way her mother acted."
"Yeah, I don't like grandma that much. She's a real bitch."

Katie sat in the small chamber, looking around at the metal walls, "So what do you want me to do again?"
"Your powers are derived from the son, so flame on."
Katie puffs her cheeks out, putting her palms against the walls, concentrating on heating it up, she took an intake of breath and opened her eyes. They flared gold as flames came from her hands, engulfing her entire body. She created an explosion, which caused the metal chamber to blast into different areas. A bunch of foam fell on her, extinguishing the flames, she lifted her hands up and wiped the foam from her glasses.
"Well shit."
Vasquez came running over to her, holding up some clothes, "Here, get dressed."
Katie glanced down and noticed she had completely burned her clothes right off. Her hands flew up to her body, instinctively covering her breasts and crotch area. "Oh God!" Katie snatched the clothes quickly, "We need to do something about that."
Vasquez laughed loudly, "You're going to need a suit that can withstand high temperatures and flames."
"Yeah." Katie pulled her underwear on, then the jeans, "I'd rather not have my clothes light on fire, especially ones that I like to wear."
Vasquez nodded, "Of course, Henshaw has already been talking about making you a suit that is suitable for such occasions." She turned once she was sure that Katie was covered, holding a bracelet out, "This should counteract your powers for now."
Katie took the bracelet, holding it up, turning around inspecting the bright silver metal, she poked at the red inner part, that looked as if it was glowing, "What is it?"
"It's similar to a solar panel, but it's much stronger."
Katie clicked it on, suddenly feeling as if she was hit by a truck, "Oh shit, is this what a hangover feels like?"
"Your power comes from solar energy, and since the bracelet it absorbing the solar energy, you're no longer feeling energized."
Katie groaned, rubbing her head, "I need like fifty Tylenol."
"Your body will just reject it." Vasquez shakes her head, "You're just going to have to walk it off."
Katie lifted her arm up, "Does this mean I can leave the DEO?"
"Not yet, we need to make sure the bracelet will work and is not just a temporary fix to your powers."
