《Edge of Glory | Supergirl 1》Chapter 5

Leah stood beside Kara, staring down at Leslie Willis, her hair was no longer blonde it was now a bright silver, even her skin became a deathly white.
"I truly hate hospitals." Cat mumbles, "How much longer until it's appropriate for us to leave?"
"Mom, you don't mean that."
"Oh, I do. I am intensely germ-phobic. And I'm not crazy about Leslie's new do. It's very Katy Perry."
Kara held her hands together, "If you didn't care about Leslie, you wouldn't be paying for this hospital room. Does she have any family?"
"None that she has mentioned."
Leah glanced at all the flowers, "Then, who were those from?"
"Her fans. Apparently, there's a whole shrine in front of Catco. I'm certain I'm going to have to step over it when I go in."
Kara sighs, her solemn eyes staying on Leslie, "Supergirl must feel awful."
Leah scrunched her eyebrows together, "Why?"
"The pilot was saved, she prevented the CatCopter from crashing into the ground, and Leslie is still alive. I put her in that helicopter. If anybody should feel guilty, it's me. Not that I do. Okay, that's long enough. We've paid our respects, and I have a company to run. After you."
Leah glanced over at Kara, "Come on."
"There was another girl." Cat states, turning to the two, "Find out who she is, and what her relationship to Supergirl is."
Leah's eyes widen, quickly following Kara out of the hospital room, "My mom is going to find out I was the other woman."
"Trust me, she hasn't found out that I'm Supergirl, you're safe."
"Now my mom is going to label me."
"Well, it's going to better than Supergirl."
Leah wraps an arm around Kara, "I think that name is amazing."

Katie stared at Miss Grant walked in the room, turning to Winn, "Did you see the photos all over social media?"
"Yeah, Leah used her powers." Winn mumbles, "Do you think Cat knows?"
"Uh..." Katie glanced at her, the woman was pacing in her office, then she began to type on her computer. "I'm not so sure..."
Then the T.V. went crazy, news reports popped up. "Uh... Oh wow."
"New reports coming from CatCo plaza, claiming yet another superhero. The mysterious woman from last night, who saved the pilot from his untimely demise, is now called Captain Marvel."
"She labeled Leah."
"Captain Marvel?" Winn questions.
"KERAH!"
Katie looked around, but Kara was not here, so she quickly scrambled into Cat's office, "Miss Grant, you gave Kara the rest of the day off, remember?"
"Right." Cat pursed her lips, noticing how Katie kept glancing at the TVs behind her, "You have something to say?"
"Uh, why did you name her Captain Marvel?"
"Marvel, short for marvelous." Cat puts her glasses on the table, "The captain adds effect."

"Oh..."
"It's Thanksgiving, Kathy." Cat waved her hand, "You and your hobbit brother may go."
"Oh um..." Katie nods, "Okay, uh. Are you and your daughter having Thanksgiving together?"
"That is none of your concern." Cat points out, she coughs, "But if you have to know, no, I have a lot of work to do, and Leah understands that. She said she found plans."
"Right. Have a good night Miss Grant." Katie quickly left Cat's office, moving beside her brother, "Let's go to Kara's."
"Why? We still have work."
"Miss Grant gave us the rest of the night off..." Katie replies slowly, taking in Winn's astonished expression.
"She did what now?" Winn moves his head to stare at Miss Grant, but Katie smacked the side of his head, "Hey, ow!"
"Don't stare." Katie scolds, "Let's just go before she changes her mind."
"Yeah."

Leah stood awkwardly as she watched the group prepare the Thanksgiving dinner, she was unsure of what to do. Katie noticed this and pulled her over, sitting her down beside Kara. She then sat over by Winn as Eliza set the turkey on the table.
"Kara, your oven's not the best. Would you mind giving it a quick five seconds or so?"
Kara pulls her glasses off and uses her heat vision to cook the turkey. Katie huffs, "Huh, or you could do that."
"She comes in handy." Winn laughs.
Eliza smiles, "I have to admit, the first time she did it I was a little worried. What if we were all eating radioactive turkey?"
Everyone laughs, even Leah who felt welcomed even if this was her first real encounter with everyone.
Alex cuts off the happy tension, "It's no worse than the microwave. We'll all live."
Eliza's tone changes, staring at the glass of wine Alex was drinking, "You're having a lot of fun, Alex. Let's get some food in you."
"Yeah." Katie pops in, tapping her fingers against her thighs, "Everything looks great."
"Oh, especially the pie," Winn adds, receiving a scolding look from Kara.
"Oh yes." Alex snarks, "That is the best pie in the galaxy. Or so I'm told."
"So, before we eat, I thought it would be nice if we went around and shared what we were grateful for, or any other feelings that we might want to share with family and friends, so let's share. Okay, I'll go first, um... I'm grateful for everyone here. My two best friends in the entire world, my sister who's always had my back, my long lost cousin who I missed dearly, and the woman who always treated me like a daughter."
"Thank you, sweetie."
"Alex do you want to go next?"
"Nope." Alex chugged her drink down.
Kara puffed her cheeks out, "Winn, why don't you go?"
"Yeah, well that's easy," Winn says nervously, pulling at the collar of his shirt. Leah glanced at Katie looking uncomfortable.

Kara's phone suddenly rang, "Oh, sorry guys, I'll turn it off. Oh, it's James. Um, sorry, sorry. I'll make it quick."
Katie shook her head, but Kara stood anyway, leaving the group in awkward silence. Leah looks around, then to Eliza, "So, uh, I hear from Kara that you're a scientist. That's... cool."
"I am a bio-engineer. Alex is in the same field. You know, I guess being a lab rat, it runs in the family." The three looked down at their hands, knowing this was not going to end well.
Alex put her glass down, "There is something I have to tell you."
"Okay. Is everything alright?"
"When I was at Stanford, I was doing research in genetic engineering. And my work and connection to Kara, it came under scrutiny. And I was recruited by the government. I'm not just a doctor. I'm an operative for an organization called the DEO. We monitor alien life here on Earth. I work in the field with Kara. I mean, that is my job, Mom, I look out for her."
Katie smacked Winn as if to tell him to do something, so he moved forward, "I would be happy to carve this, Eliza."
"Are you out of your mind!?"
"Oh, here we go."
Katie lifted a plate, "Who wants green beans? Uh..."
"How could you do this, Alexandra?"
Katie sunk back in her chair, looking over at Leah, "She called her 'Alexandra.' This is gonna get ugly."
"How could I do what? Devote my entire life to watching over Kara? Well, I don't know, maybe it's because it's what you've told me to do since I was 14 years old."
"You lied to me for years!"
"Is that what you got from all of that? So, Kara risks her life to protect other people, and she is a hero. And yet, I do the same, and I'm in trouble? That... is perfect." Alex stood up, getting ready to leave.
"You think your father would be proud of this?"
"I will never win with you." Alex slams the door shut.
Katie coughed, "Uh... Well, I think that we should go. Leah, you coming?"
"Please." Leah quickly grabs her things, she went to her cousin, giving her a hug, "We'll talk later."
Katie tugged Leah out, all three releasing a loud sigh once they left the room. "So you guys want Chinese?"
"Since I'm starving, that sounds absolutely amazing." Leah agrees, "Oh we've never been introduced. I'm Leah Grant."
Her hand was extended towards Winn, who looked at it, "Uh, well, I'm... I'm Winn Schott, it's... it's nice to meet you."
Leah gladly takes his hand, shaking it, "Nice to meet you too."
Katie pursed her lips, arms crossed over her chest as she stared with an amused expression at her brother and Kara's cousin. "There is a rumbly in my tumbly friends."
The two pulled their hands away, "Right." Leah grins, "Let's go eat."
"I was thinking we could just order some takeout." Katie walks down the hall, "And go to our apartment and watch some American Horror Story."
"Yes, I need to catch up on that series." Leah agrees immediately, "Let's go." She stopped the twins, "We could always fly."
"Fly?"
"I'm up for it." Katie put her hands on her hips.
Leah put her arms around both of them, "Hold on tight!"
Winn screamed as Katie laughed loudly, "We're live there!" Leah landed on the balcony, Winn turned around and threw up, Katie patted his back, "It's fine, I reacted the same way."
Leah winced, "I am so sorry. Should have warned you, the first time is the worst."
"Yeah, it is." Winn groans, wiping his mouth. He turns around, facing the two females, "I never want to do that again."
Katie lifted her hand up, "You'll want to, it's a great feeling once you get used to it."
Winn waddled into the room, "I'll go order the food."
Leah stared at Katie oddly, watching the female, "Why is it I feel my powers strengthen when I'm next to you?"
Katie glanced back at her, "What do you mean?"
"The power radiating off of you, I'm surprised Kara has not noticed." Leah stalked closer, her hands lifting up touching the air around Katie, "The power coming off of you is the same as the red sun of this planet."
Katie backed up slightly, "Well, I don't know what you're talking about, slightly freaking me out."
Leah took a step back, "I'm sorry. It's just, you're human, how could this kind of energy come off of you?"
"Kara called me a metahuman."
"A superhuman?" Leah walked in behind Katie, "What happened to you to cause that?"
"I'm not sure, the DE..." Katie coughed, unsure if she should talk about it, but thinking of Kara she said it anyway, "The DEO is running tests on my blood to see what's going on."
Leah nodded, sitting down and lifting up a few items of clothing, "What are these?"
"Suits, Winn made a lot of them."
Leah lifted one up, "I like this one."
"Keep it." Katie sat down, "I mean, you're Captain Marvel now." She laughs, "Go try it on, you're a Superhero now, your mom already branded you."
Leah rolls her eyes, but released a small snort, "Of course she did. I mean, since I already revealed myself might as well go with it."
"That's the spirit."
Leah moved into Katie's room, pulling the suit on, it was really modest, it covered her whole body, a cat suit. She pulled the whole thing on and walked out, watching as Winn dropped the phone in his hand, "She's-she's wearing the suit I-Wow."
Leah twirled in it, "It's missing a cape."
Katie snorts, "Wow, Kara was the same."
"I-I'll make a cape." Winn scrambles to pick up the phone, luckily he finished the order.
"So you're gonna fight crime like Kara now?" Katie questions.
"Only if she needs help." Leah answers, "Or all the time because I've never used my powers like this."

Until death? (Old Version)
This is the dated Version. Please search for the rewrite. Ever been a god? Well I was! Until I died.... and got judged by the other gods! Apparently they didn't like the whole idea that my Faith is the only true one! Oh and for the record: The Apocalypse wasn't intentional, ok? Though, I admit that ultimatively, I caused it. Seems like I got sent onto a vacation as punishment! Or so I hope? ——————————————————————————————— Reading Order of the Multiverse-Books ——————————————————————————————— Author's Comment: I was asked about reading my work on other sites. The answer is simple: Currently I am not active in any other networks than royalroadl.com. Only here, I correct mistakes and errors. If you read it anywhere else and have to pay for it, or have to deal with an annoying amount of advertisement, You Are Being Betrayed. You would do good if you make other people in that network aware of it. This is a free project of mine for the purpose of having fun. And if people try to make money with it you shouldn't bother visiting their website. The only one whom I actually allowed to have my work on his website is Armaell who invested the time to compile them into pdf. (http://armaell-library.net/author/andur)

Nevertheless, A Fantasy World
Aldieas, a world where five races exist in harmony namely, the Humans, Vasters, Serensis, Oreals, and the Alpsis. Before, this world was bathed in a gruesome bloodbath because of countless war between the races that created their own kingdoms. The lack of progress of the Era earned the disapproval of the God who created the world resulting in sending thirteen Demon Lords to dominate the world and erase any existing races. As the five races fell into despair, they summoned a hero as last resort to fight off the Demon Lords. The hero that was summoned, a lone man, has brought hope and salvation to everyone. Eventually, the hero defeated the Demon Lords but because of what he witnessed about this world, he himself becomes dismayed and chose isolation. Thousand of years has passed and the world has reached a new Era. Right then, the Hero decided to check on things. Author's Note: Do think that this is extremely similar to my other story settings. It's slightly r-15 but I guarantee that any explicit will be tone down. Further emphasis on the story genre will be updated soon.

The Core of a Factory
An abandoned steampunk arms factory, in the middle of a conflict torn former state of the Empire it served, gains a soul. This transforms it into a Lord, capable of turning land into power. Beset by enemies on all sides it must figure out how to win the war its creators lost a century ago. This is a progressive Dungeon Core novel (which is to say the core will progress and expand in scale, eventually) across multiple dimensions with different characteristics (e.g. steampunk, magic, mythological). It has rationalist leanings (paragraphs of reasoning) and litrpg leanings (there are stat blocks). The core game mechanical idea is something like "what if different flavors of magic power actually did come from controlling land" and then the story is: "what if there was a flavorless (artifact deck) dungeon core". Chapters will be relatively short (my aim is that in three column format each would fit on a wide screen monitor), the first few chapters - setting up the main character and mechanics - are currently the longest in the entire series. I write chapters in blocks, and then release them one a weekday (M-F; 6 PM GMT, unless RoyalRoad's publish thing screws up) until I run out. There may be a few days of gaps here and there if someone finds an egregious error I have to re-write around or if I am behind. In general though one can read this once a weekend. I may do slight retconns and edits, I'll make sure to put it in an authors note if I do.

"In my defense, I hadn't actually been trying to get hit by a truck." Artemis wakes up alone in a giant futuristic facility with no hint of where she is, how she got here, or what this means. Yet within two weeks, she is shot at with all the guns, a voice is beginning to speak in her head, and she is tormented by a seemingly sentient and possibly trollish space Roomba. Her only hope is Scarlet, another girl who is a complete stranger and almost shot her in the head. Oh, and she has fox ears and a tail. That is possibly worth mentioning. Artemis is not a nerd. Hardcore OP-ness
Most people pray for good health, a loving family, and to win the lottery. I asked “Can you send me to a game-like fantasy-style world? It can't be too unrealistic, but also, it would be nice if I was immortal to some degree. Oh yea, no rape or slavery either, cause then I'll have to spend the whole time trying to create a perfect society, and I'd rather not have to deal with all that nonsense. No other players either, cause that always creates a ton of annoying drama, and I just want to have a fun, relaxing, and enjoyable time.â€Three years later, after I had completely forgotten about all that… well, better late than never I suppose. The moral of this story, is to be careful what you wish for; also, cuteness is justice, so don't complain if adorable bunnies beat you to death and devour your corpse.(Warning: This story includes profanity, numbers, humanity, nudity, uncomfortable realism in a fantasy-world, awkward but mild sexual-content, descriptive violence and gore, nekomimi, necrophilia, bizarre and disturbing sexual-content, offensive language, plus all of the other things that disclaimers usually have to tell you about. Do not read this if you dislike transportation, virtual reality, fantasy, or other similar genres… or me, because I'm the author.)I'm only posting a few chapters on this site, but there are over 100 on my wordpress. https://mike777ac.wordpress.com/hardcore-op-ness/
