《Edge of Glory | Supergirl 1》Chapter 3

Katie gaped at the TV, "She didn't."
Winn groans, "Oh good God."
Katie dragged her hands against her face, conveying her thoughts of Kara saying she was related to Superman. She gabbed Kara, "Ah. Interesting choice mentioning that in an interview."
Winn pulled at the collar of his shirt, "Isn't that a little dangerous?"
"I didn't mean to. I got confused and it just popped out. She... She tricked me. She's like a villain. She's like a super interviewing villain."
"That is literally the most boring power ever."
"KERAH!" Cat screams, "Oh, and Cookie."
"She's not even trying now." Katie groans, following behind Kara into Cat's office.
"Kathy, good." Cat waved her closer, "You and Olsen did a great job getting me that interview with Supergirl."
"What?" Katie glanced at Kara, wondering what she was talking about.
"Jimmy told me that it was you who actually got Supergirl to go to that interview, and I thank you for it. I never knew such a girl could be friends with Supergirl."
Katie shut her mouth, and nodded, "Uh, thanks. Is that all?"
"Yes, you may leave." Cat waved her hand.
Katie walked out, her feet taking her to James' office, "You told Cat that I was Supergirl's friend and the reason you got the interview."
"Yeah, Kara said you were the one to help convince her."
"I only gave her a little advice, I never-" Katie groaned, "Now Cat thinks I'm a close friend to Supergirl."
"Well technically you are."
"I know that, but now I'm on Cat's radar."
"Wouldn't you want to be." James smiles, "I mean, you're job will get better, you sit and write articles everyday, but you never show them to her."
"Because they're crap." Katie mumbled, crossing her arms over her chest.
James leaned back on his desk, "I didn't mean to pry, but I may have read you and Winn's resumes."
Katie opened her mouth in an 'o', she shook her head, "So you found out that I originally signed up to be a reporter." She laughed, "I'm stuck behind a desk, working as an IT, and I'm fine with that."
"Well, with Cat in your gratitude, you might be a reporter soon."
Katie rolled her eyes, but still smiled nonetheless, "Sure, sure. And by the way, be nice to Kara."
"Wh-why-?"
"Buh-bye."
Katie walks out to see that Kara was gone, "Uh, Winn, where did she go?"
"She said she was going to that secret Covert operations thing that her sister is apart of."
Katie slowly nods, "Right, we're supposed to act like we don't know about that."
"Also, I have a great idea."
Katie glances at her brother, "Your ideas are always horrible."
"This one is perfect, a base of operations."
Katie scrunched her eyebrows together, "What in the world are you talking about?"
"There is an office, the previous tenant Ed Flaherty died, and no one has taken that office, sooooooo."
"So you want to transform it for Kara."
"Yes!" Winn paused, "Wait, no, no, uh, for all of us."
Katie smirked, "I'm sure." She checked her watch, puffing her cheeks out and adjusting her glasses, "Well, I need to head out."
"Where to now? I don't want to be the only one working on our office."
"That was your idea." Katie pointed out, "I'm just going to grab us lunch, since I'm the one who has a longer break than you."

"That is only because-"
"I do more work." Katie cut him off, skipping to the employee elevator. She tapped her foot against the ground, when it stopped at the 5th level and someone walked in. Katie gave him a smile as he clicked for the bottom level. She leaned against the wall, noticing the suitcase. "Did you come here to voice a plan to Miss Grant?"
"Something like that." He turned his head slightly to look at her, "What's your name?"
"Katie Schott, you?"
"Not important."
"Uh..." Katie shifted her weight, suddenly feeling uncomfortable, wanting to leave the elevator.
"You're Winslow Schott Senior's kid."
Katie's body tensed, "I don't like to talk about that."
The man clapped, "You'll do perfectly fine, hopefully you're strong."
"What?" The man opened his suitcase, which held a small device which looked very similar to a bomb. Katie pushed herself off the wall, holding her hands up, "Whoa, uh, what are you doing sir?"
"This won't hurt you, well there is a possibility it could kill you."
Katie's eyes widen in terror, "Please-"
"Trust me, you'll be thankful." Her clicked the button on the device and threw it at Katie, she screamed as she caught it on reflex. The device emitted an ear piercing sound, and she dropped to her knees, covering her eyes, her screams getting louder as pain erupts in her body. Then the device shot a wave out and pushed Katie back into the wall of the elevator. The man bent over and picked up the broken device, "Goodbye Miss Schott. My name is Harrison."
Katie blinked a couple of times before passing out in the elevator.

Winn held his sister's hand, waiting for her to wake up. In a blink Katie sat upright, making Winn recoil. She scanned the room, when she finally recognized the plain white hospital sheets covering her. "Where is he?"
"Where is who, Katie? They found you passed out in the elevator."
Katie fixed herself so she was comfortable, "There was a man in the elevator with me. He had this bomb looking thing, and he detonated it right in front of me."
"Well whoever this man was, Kara will catch him."
Katie looked at the TV, "Uh... I think she has better things to deal with."
Winn scrunched his eyebrows together but looked at the screen, where Kara is basically getting it handed to her by this guy in a metal vest. "Well, we could always call the police."
Katie rubbed her arm, "If I'm fine maybe I imagined it."
"If you're so scared, maybe you should tell the police."
"But what if it was my imagination?"
"That would make me even more worried than I already am." Winn groans, "At least tell Kara so she can tell that secret agency."
"I will." Katie smiles, "Can you check with the doctor to see if I can leave? I feel fine, nothing hurts other than the back of my head, where I fell on it."
Winn nods, scrambling out of the room, "Yeah, I'll get to that."
Katie laughs as her brother rushes out of the room to find the nearest doctor, she stares out the window, she sighs, and gets out of bed even without the permission of the doctor. She felt fine, and the sun against her skin was giving her extra energy to get up.
"Miss Schott, I highly suggest that you sit back down."

"But I feel absolutely fine."
The doctor sighs, walking up to her, Winn close behind, "The back of your head busted open, and I..." The doctor pauses as she checks Katie's head, "There's nothing there."
"See, I told you, I'm fine."
"I'd like to keep you for a couple more hours or so, just to do a couple tests, after I'll have you signed out."
Katie sighs, but complies with the doctor, "Fine, Winn, check up on Kara for me, and tell her I'm okay."
"Sure."
The doctor moved her hair around, searching for the wound that she was sure Katie had, "It seems like the wound was just my imagination..." The doctor glanced at Katie's brunette hair, noticing specs of dry blood, "There's blood in your hair, but I see no wound."
Katie shrugged, "I don't know where it came from to be completely honest."
The doctor took a flashlight out of her pocket, looking Katie in the face, she pointed the light at her eyes, "Dilating normally."
"So everything if fine?"
"A couple more tests and we'll start on your paperwork to get out."
After two hours of the doctor testing and asking questions, Katie was finally allowed to leave the hospital. She checked the time and cursed, she was going to be late to that stupid party Miss Grant was hosting. She took out her phone to see twenty text messages, 19 from Kara and one from Alex, just as a check up.
She dialed Kara's number, "Hey, I just got checked out-"
"Are you alright? Winn told me, are you for sure you were attacked? The party is starting in thirty minutes, are you going to be ready in time?-"
"Kara, slow down." Katie laughs, walking for her shared apartment with her brother, who had already texted her that he left for the party just in case she didn't get out of the hospital in time, "Yes, I am completely fine, no I'm not sure if I imagined getting attacked or not, and I may be late for the party."
"Then we'll be late together."
Katie yelped and placed a hand over her heart, and started at Kara, "Did you fly here?"
"Yes, now come on." Kara tugged Katie's hand, pulling her into the side ally, "Hold tight."
"Wait, Kara-" Katie screamed when Kara just lifted off without hesitation, then they were at Kara's apartment. Katie reeled over the ledge and threw up, "Not okay, I was... not ready."
"Sorry."
Katie adjusted herself, "Kara, I don't have a dress-"
"Borrowed a couple from the DEO." Alex smiles, holding two hangers up, "Thought you two could use it."
Katie and Kara thanked Alex, quickly getting the dresses on, and headed off to the party. "Alex said they were bulletproof dresses?"
"Yeah." Kara laughed, walking down the hall.
Katie giggled, "I might end up keeping this dress."
♕~♕~♕~♕~♕
"You look upset." Katie walks up beside her brother, who glanced at her dress.
"You look gorgeous."
"Do not change the subject." Katie raised her hand up, she noticed Kara and James dancing, "Oh."
Winn sighs, "She was enjoying herself with me and then James, he-"
"It's fine Winn." Katie rubbed his back, "There are plenty of fish in the sea, trust me."
Glass shatters above them, making multiple people scream out. Winn pushed Katie behind him on instinct when Reactron appeared, "Where is Supergirl?" He sent a blast of energy at the sign behind Kara, lighting it completely on fire.
Katie moved away from Winn, getting closer to James in the process, "Where did Kara go?"
"To change." He mumbles.
Reactron approaches Maxwell, who holds his hands up, "Don't suppose my fixing your nuke suit earns me a hall pass?" The sound of Reactron's suit powering up rang in Katie's ears, when Kara-Supergirl-landed a kick on Reactron before he could harm Maxwell, "Twice in two days. I should put you on the payroll as a bodyguard."
"Get somewhere safe."
"Good idea."
"I am sorry for what happened to you." Kara says, "But you are going to jail."
"I'm sure one day I will." He breathes in heavily, "But you won't live to see it." He sends a blast into Kara. He sends another blast, but Kara covers herself with her suit, it reflects off of her cape and hits Katie, causing Winn to scream out.
"NO!" Winn ran to his sister, who pulled herself up, "Katie, don't move."
Katie groaned, but was able to stand with no problem, she absorbed the energy blast, "W-winn, you saw that too right?"
"Oh shit."
"Hey, Krull! Krull! Know who I am? Jimmy Olsen. I'm the closest thing Superman has to a best friend. You wanna see him hurt? Killing me would do that. Come on." James runs off, Reactron leaving through the hole he created in the ceiling.
Kara ran over to them, "Katie are you okay? How are you standing?"
"She-she absorbed the energy, Kara, my sister-"
"You need to worry more about James." Katie cut him off, holding her stomach, where the blast got her, "He needs you more than me."
Once Kara flew after Reactron, Winn forcefully moved Katie's hand from her stomach, but there was no wound, just skin with soot on it, "Katie..."
"I don't know, Winn."
"Was it that man?" Winn questions, the twins leaving the already empty building, "Could this be an effect to that bomb you saw?"
"I don't know, Winn. I don't know." Katie repeated, almost terrified that she just absorbed a radiation blast, that she survived a radiation blast.
♕~♕~♕~♕~♕
Kara walked Katie into the DEO, the doctors taking her away. Hank Henshaw had multiple protests, until Kara explained that Katie absorbed the blast Reactron sent her way.
Katie looked around, "So this is the infamous DEO?"
Alex smiled, as the doctor drew Katie's blood, "Not so infamous apparently."
Kara rubbed the back of her head, "She's my best friend."
Henshaw walked over to Katie, "And you said this man's name, with that 'bomb', was Harrison."
"That was all he said, I could describe what he looked like if you'd want." Henshaw nodded, "He wore glasses..." She explained his looks to him, having people search up for possible matches.
Kara rubbed Katie's back, "Are you okay?"
"A little overwhelmed." Katie answered truthfully, she poked Kara's belly, "I guess I've got superpowers as well."
Kara laughs, "Yeah, we could be a crime fighting duo."
Alex stopped the two, "Don't get ahead of yourselves, and Kara..." She gave a worrisome glance at Katie, "Uh..."
"Say it in front of Katie, I trust her."
"I just call a call from Clark, he said another one of your cousins-"
"Wait, Clark Kent?" Katie cut in, "He's Superman?"
Kara opened her mouth, "Right, you weren't with Winn when he found out." She quickly turned her head to Alex, "Wait, another cousin."
"He just found out recently that your cousin Ka-El came to earth the same time as you, but she had already left her pod by the time he got there."
"Ka?" Kara's voice hics, "She... she's alive."
"Who's Ka?"
"My cousin, we were born the same time, she practically grew up with me." Kara mumbles, "Alex, do-do you know where she is?"
"Clark says her name is Leah, he met her recently in Metropolis, said she was heading this way to visit her foster mother."
"Do you know who?"
"It may be a coincidence, but..." Alex paused, "Her full name is Leah Grant."

Anti-Hero: Journey of Fear
There is a story where the hero makes friends, completes quests, and saves the world. This is NOT that story. In the VR world of Fate: Experience Acute Realism, the main character cuts his way through both the players and NPCs alike. This story takes a close look at how a true full immersion VR would be played. The setting is an open VR world where the players struggle to survive with a lack of knowledge and the NPCs panic in regards to the Travelers invading their world. The anti-hero of this story is cold and calculating. Sparing no one from his reign of terror he gives into occasional bouts of kindness before he is forced back on the path of blood and tears. For where there is a hero who seeks to bring people together to help the world move forward, there is an anti-hero who brings people together to seize the world for himself. WARNING: This story contains extreme violence, in every single chapter. This story contains references to sex, but no explicit scenes. This story has light to mild swearing. My chapters normally range from 4,000 to 5,000 words. This story does not contain happy endings, middles, or even beginnings.
