《A Daughter of Thanatos( Nico di Angelo )》Chapter 26

I went out of the bathroom and looked left and right.
Whew! She's gone.
I walked out and I smelled something that made my mouth water. I sniffed the air.
Mm, steak...
I ran to the kitchen and there was steak at the center of the table. Some gravy, chicken, and soda.
"Darlin', you know you can a sit and eat, right?" Grace smiled and pulled out a chair. "Oh, yeah. Sorry." I smiled sheepishly and took a seat.
"It's fine. Blade, pass the gravy." Shadow handed her the gravy and dug into her food. I grabbed a plate and went for a steak with my fork. The same time, Nico went for the same steak.
I glared at him murderously. He glared the same amount. I hit his fork away. He hit mine back. "Sorry, but this one was mine." I said.
"I touched it first." He said. "Nuh-uh! I touched it first." He hit my hand with the fork and took the steak. My jaw dropped and I felt my face get hot.
I stood on the chair and jumped on him. "MY STEAK!" I pulled on his hair and pinched his ear.
"WHAT THE HEC?!?!? Get off me!" I smiled and laughed at his horrified expression.
I got off him. I took the steak and climbed over the table to my plate. "My steak." I started munching on the steak.
He got up and brushed himself off. "Crazy."
"Jerk."
"Maniac."
"Jerk."
"Psychopath."
"Jerk."
"Would you stop saying that. It's getting old." He said.
"Jerk."
He groaned and I continued to eat my steak.
"Um?" I looked at Andy. "Can you pass me the chicken?" I nodded and passed her the plate. "Thanks."

"What did I say about fighting inside the house." Grace scolded us.
"Clarissa started it!" Nico yelled. My jaw dropped. "Liar, Nico's a liar." I pouted.
I began to sob and tears poured down my face. "Awe, sweetie!" Grace went over to me and hugged me. "Nico, apologize." Grace said, rubbing my arm.
"No way!"
"Nico!" She snapped. He rolled his eyes and sighed. "Fine, I'm sorry."
I stopped sobbing and crying instantly. "You mean it?"
He groaned, but nodded.
I grinned. "Okay, you are forgiven." I hopped off the chair and went to Shadow's room.
I sighed when I entered her room. I felt so tired and my muscles ached bad. My back was still sore from my 'promise' scar. I plopped down on her bed and closed my eyes. I heard the door make 'click' sound. My eyes snapped opened and saw Shadow there. "Hey Shadow." I relaxed and smiled at her.
Hey, Clare. I was wondering if we could go outside? I want to show you something."
I nodded and followed her.
We went onto her front porch and sat down.
I gazed out at the sky and my eyes widened. The sky was dark enough to actually see the stars. I felt calm in the darkness and leaned back into the bench. "I'm sorry for bringing you out here." She said looking down. "It's okay," I said. "The dark is really pretty." Shadow sighed. "Yeah..."
"Clare, have you ever wanted someone so bad, but you know that deep in your heart that you'll never have a chance?" I shook my head. "No, not really. Why?"
She looked down at her fingers. "'Cuz it hurts so damn much." She looked at me, her eyes glassy. I pulled her into a big hug.

"It's just not fair." She sobbed into my shoulder. I closed my eyes. Seeing Shadow cry was difficult to see. She seemed so strong and confident. I couldn't bear to see her cry. I want to know who this person is.
"Shadow, who's this person?" I asked her. She looked at me and her eyes were red and her nose a bit pink.
"A-Andy."
She sobbed. She went back to my shoulder and comforted her a bit 'til she fell alseep.
Shadow likes Andy. Andy likes Cole. My head hurts. I ship Candy, but Shadow's cute with Andy too.
Wait, why am I even thinking about shipping who with who? Stop it, Clare. I'll just ask Shadow later.
"Hey." I looked up and saw Nico. "Hi." I said.
"Need some help there?" He pointed towards Shadow and I nodded. He picked her up bridal style and we walked in.
Andy was sitting with Cole on the couch poking each other. I looked back from her and Shadow. I frowned a bit.
Nico placed her on the bed and she snuggled up in the covers. He sat across from me on the ground and we faced each other. "Are you okay? Besides, you know...?" He shifted a bit and I shook my head.
"I'm tired, sore, and waiting for 'promise' to heal." He nodded. "I hope you know that you're kind of my friend." He said awkwardly. I smiled. "Cool."
"'Cuz you're kind of my friend too." He gave me a half smile.
"So why was Shadow crying?" He asked me. Should I tell him? I'm not sure if Shadow would like me to tell him though...
"Was it, because of Andy?" I looked at him shocked. How did he know? "Did Shadow tell you?" I asked him. He nodded. "Yeah, it was." I sighed. "I really hope Shadow can figure this out. You know, how to avoid Andy and Cole?" He nodded. "It must be hard for her seeing them act so in love." He said.
He stood up and had a hand held out to me. "Come on."
I grabbed onto his hand and he pulled my arm. I came tripping over my feet to Nico. He came catching me in his arms.
"Uh, N-" He shushed me and hugged me tighter. "Just shut up for once." He told me and for once, I actually listened.
He pulled away and held to the sides of my face. I looked deeply into his dark eyes. He lightly kissed my lips and I closed my eyes. He pulled away.
I opened my eyes again. My eyes were wide.
"Good night, Clare." He let go and left the room.
I inhaled deeply. "Curse you Nico for making me feel this way." I whispered.

[Discontinued] Armus : First Draft
THIS FICTION HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED. I don't recommend reading this, since the chapters are a bit haphazard (containing new edits which don't really fit in with the latter half of the story).

NOVA INTERIT.US
It's 2063, and the town along with much of the nation are in disarray. The decay started years before the Great Event. Our town still had hope thanks to the five families, who'd created a blockchain based water distribution system for the locals, a valuable secret hidden from the Global Water Commission and their network of mercenaries. Earlier in the mid-2040's, right after the state secessions of Idaho, Montana, and Texas, the Global Council of Water Commissioners made their deals and moved into towns throughout the country. They called it "the integration." The Commission and their contractors integrated with municipal water departments, using their organized network to invade like parasites on local services. It all coincided with the 29th Amendment to the United States Constitution, later referred to as the Regional Trident Plan. Nova is a story about survival, power structures, the turning of relationships, and the networking between people and the systems to which they belong. It’s about A.I. blockchain possibility, and its potential for human betterment versus our detriment. It’s about the question of whether or not we need to be saved from ourselves, and by who or what? The Great Event at the end of the first chapter might just be what actually saves us. The epilogue will take place in 2517. This scene is fully sketched and the full arc of the novel is set. I expect to finish Nova Interitus by summer of 2023. This is realist hard-sci-fi dystopian fiction. I hope you find Nova to be a challenging and consuming story. This is not something I planned to write. It all came to me in a dream and I haven't been able to stop writing it. This Royal Road posting is basically a beta test with chapters and drafts to get some feedback and see if there's any readership for this narrative. For the full experience read Nova on Substack. I will be narrating a podcast version later this year there. https://novainteritus.substack.com/
