《A Daughter of Thanatos( Nico di Angelo )》Chapter 25

Grace led us inside her house and Shadow was as tense as ever. "Relax, girl!" I whispered to her.
"Don't you think I would if I could?" She said. She sighed and ran a hand through her hair. "We shouldn't have came here..." She muttered.
"Why?" I asked. "Cuz, they lady infront of us is insane!"
"Dude, she's your grandma." I told her.
"Dude, she's the lady who made my life like Tartarus!" She scowled at the ground and stomped ahead of me.
I sighed.
"What was that about?" Nico asked. I jumped and put a hand over my heart. "What the hec!?" I whisper yelled. He rolled his eyes and looked at me again.
"Yeah, yeah. Now tell me what happened."
"Nothing." I mumbled. "Riiiight...." He dragged.
He looked on forward and it took some time for his outfit to sink in.
He wore a black shirt inside his aviator jacket, black jeans clinging onto his waist, and a black beanie. He had his skull ring on and his sword was strapped to his waist.
THIS BOY IS TRYING TO KILL ME.
Breathe Clara, breathe. This doesn't affect you. His dark eyes don't affect you. His dark hair doesn't affect you. His pale, pink lips don't-
"Are you checking me out?" Nico asked, bringing me back into reality. "What?" I asked, confused.
He furrowed his eyebrows. "Nothing." I felt my ears get hot.
Please tell me he didn't catch me staring. Please, please, please...
I pulled on his sleeve. "What is it?" He shrugged. "What, it was nothing."
I glared. "You're a jerk." I said to him.
He smiled.
Like, actually smiled. No smug behind it, I think.
"It's been awhile since you called me that." I furrowed my eyebrows.
Huh, it has been a while since I called him that...
"Well, start getting used to it again. Cause I'm going to be calling you that now." I closed my eyes and grinned. He scoffed. "Really? You're proud of that? You seriously need higher standards."

I stuck my tongue out at him. "Deal with it." I said.
He rolled his eyes and walked ahead of me. Ughhh! Why does this keep happening?
I pushed my legs to walk faster. "Why? What's something that I should be proud of?" I asked him.
"Oh, it's you again. Missed me too much?" He asked. I punched him hard on the arm. "Shut up."
"Now, now. Fighting isn't allowed inside the house." Grace said.
I looked over at Shadow and her jaw dropped. "WHAT?!??!?!" She yelled.
Instantly, her grandma's head snapped over to her direction and glared and Shadow.
"Blade, you got something to say to me?" Grace snarled. Shadow's eyes widened. She shook her head and her grandma turned back to us. "Okay? No fighting inside the house." She smiled at us and began walking again.
My jaw dropped now.
Whoa, Shadow was right about her grandma. But how can she be that bad?
Grace led us into her kitchen where the smell of oatmeal cookies made my tummy rumble. "I hope you kids like oatmeal. That was Miranda's favorite before..." Grace paused and looked down. "It's alright, I really like oatmeal." Her face beamed at what I said and placed a whole plate of cookies for us. She smiled and said, "Eat up now."
I gratefully dug in and moaned. "Gees gar goofd cookies!" I scarfed them down and burp. "Yummy..." I looked up and saw them all staring at me...
"What?" I asked and Nico's jaw dropped. "Y-You basically inhaled all the cookies..." I looked down and saw the empty tray. I smiled sheepishly. "Oops."
Andy just smiled and shook her head. "Still have that cookie addiction dontcha?"
I nodded.
"Okay then! What did you sweethearts wanted from me anyway?" Grace asked.
"We're sorry for the late notice, but is it okay if we stay over for the night?" Nico asked. Grace nodded. "Of course you can!"
"You boys can sleep in the guest room. The girls can sleep in Blade's old room." We nodded and followed Shadow through the house.

"Here's you room." She told the boys. They walked in and shut the door behind them.
Shadow walked a few doors down to a room. "And we'll be sleeping here." She opened the door.
The room was a dark purple with white curtains. There was a small twin size bed and a side table. There was a wardrobe aross from her bed. She had a tipical kind of room.
Oh, and not to forget all the different sorts of knives against the wall.
Each knife had a picture above it of a little girl. The larger and sharper the knife got, the little girl seemed to be a little older.
"Hey, Shadow?" I asked. "Hm?" She hummed. "Is that little girl you?" I pointed to the pictures and she nodded.
"Yep, that's me." She took down the very first knife and sighed. "Ahhh, my very first knife."
"That's... very sharp." I said. She held the knife out at me and I jumped back instinctively.
"I was just handing the knife to you." Shadow handed Andy the knife instead. "Ooh! Shiney!" Andy exclaimed. "I know right." Shadow said.
"Let's also not forget sharp." I said, taking the knife out of Andy's hands. "But I wanna play with it!" Andy pouted. Shadow handed her another knife the was much shinnier and sharper. "YAY!!!! THANK YOU SHADOW!!!" Andy screamed.
"Lower your voice, or else that hag'll c'mere and start yelling at us." Shadow told her. "OKAY!" Andy screamed. I had to cover my ears.
"I'll get the sleeping bags ready." Shadow rushed out the room and left me and Andy. "So..." I began.
"I got a knife..." She said. She looked at me and a weird glint was in her eyes. My eyes widened and she smiled devilishly. "Five, four," I darted out the room and down the stairs.
You ask why I'm running? Well, let's just say that we invented a game where knives, throwing, and running were involved. Yep, and Andy ALWAYS hits her target. I still have the scars. This game used to be really fun until we found out how bad our cuts could get.
There's nothing wrong with that.
"Clare... Come out, come out where ever you are..." Andy sang. "Shit..." I cursed under my breath.
She stopped and turned my direction. "Clare?" She asked.
I weighed my options. Either run to the kitchen where Grace is, but still have a chance of getting knife. Or run to the bathroom and lock myself in, but have a greater chance at getting knife.
Plan number two, here we go...
I ran as quick as I could to the bathroom. "HIYAAA!!!!" Andy screamed as she threw the knife towards me.
I jumped for the door and managed to only get a cut on my cheek when I looked back at her.
I went inside and locked the door. "Whew!" I breathed. "When did I ever think this was fun!?" I shook my head. "Gods..."
I looked infront of me and saw the cut. I got some toilet paper and held it under the faucet, while the water drenched it. I put it against my cheek and winced. "Ow..."
I got dry toilet paper and held it against me cheek. "Curse you, Andy..." I shook my head and sat on the closed toilet.
"*knock**knock**knock*" My head snapped towards the door.
"Andy, stop playing with the knife and give it back Shadow already." They knocked again.
"Andy-"
"Ugh, it's not Andy you idiot!" I heard Nico's voice say.
"Oh. Well go away! I'm trying to poo here!" I yelled at the door.
"Ugh... Thanks for that horrible mental image!" He yelled back. I grinned. "Your welcome!" I said.
I heard his footsteps stomp away. "And I'm the idiot... Hmph, how rude!"

Savage Hunters
Giant monsters roam the land Civilization is frozen in a savage age. For the beast slayer Alden, power and survival are one and the same. The ancient evil that once ravaged his village and murdered his ancestors has returned. At the same time, politics hurls Alden and his crew into gladiator pit battles for control of the throne. When Alden takes possession of a cursed sword promising untold power, the hunter is determined to save his people by slaying every giant monster standing between him and the throne. But the angry ghost trapped inside the blade has other ideas. Buckle up for the brutal LitRPG ride of a lifetime Savage Hunters is an alternate-world neolothic fantasy. Characters grow their powers with explicit stat blocks presented right in the text, including levels, attribute scores, and unlockable skill trees. Experience is accumulated by battling enormous monsters the size of buildings. Political intrigue and romance elements ramp up as the series progresses. I originally wrote this story after playing Monster Hunter with my niece. She was 12 at the time, already an avid reader, and wanted to read my other published books. I'm a licensed psychotherapist specializing in severe trauma so I tend toward darker fiction. I told her my usual books are too brutal for her but I'd write her something special. The result was this series, which has been praised by both teens and adults for its depth and universal appeal. It begins with an emphasis on cultural elements because I consulted with a trained anthropologist to craft this neolithic setting down to exacting social detail. After these opening chapters, it rapidly shifts to an action-packed adventure. The first 3 books are fully written as of November 2020, totalling approximately 69 chapters. The first book has been professionally edited already. The following two books require some editing which I'll do on a chapter-by-chapter basis as releases progress. I welcome reviews and comments. Writing is a passion, and reader engagement makes my labor all the sweeter.
