Nico di Angelo's P.O.V
I heard a scream and I looked back.
Clare was on the floor, unconscious. I ran over to her and picked her up bridal style. The rest of them crowded around me. "Is she okay?" Cole asked.
"Of course she is! That's why she screamed in pain before she went unconscious." Shadow said sarcastically.
"Oh, dear!" Aphrodite exclaimed. She rushed over and placed her hand over Clare's forehead. "She's burning up!"
"I'll take you five to one of my assistants." She led us to a room where a middle aged lady sat in the side of the room. She was seated at a desk and seemed to be looking at some documents.
"Miss. Margie, do you need anything?" She asked. Aphrodite nodded and made some room for Clare.
I laid Clarissa down, as gently as I could. The lady rushed over to Clare and checked her forehead, just like the goddess. "She seems to have a fever."
"This is..." She began. She turned Clare around and there was blood on her back. My eyes widened as I looked down at my bloody hands.
She lifted her shirt and the word 'promise' was carved on her back.
We all gasped at it? "H-How?" Aphrodite asked, baffled. Andy looked like she was about to cry and Shadow and Cole were still recovering from shock.
"I-I don't know." Shaking her head. She got up and went to get something in another room. "Do you guys have any ambrosia or nectar?" Aphrodite asked.
I nodded. I grabbed some from my backpack and went to Clare. I gently held her neck and put some ambrosia in her mouth. I moved her jaw so she could chew it. She swallowed and her breathing went back to normal. But it didn't stop the bleeding. Only lessened her fever.

"Tsk, tsk, tsk. Clara, how many promises will you make and never keep them." Violet said.
I was back at the playground again. Violet holding a more dangerous knife. "What are you talking about?" I asked her.
"It's nothing, Nico. I promise." I glared at her. "I keep my promises, if you didn't know."
She glared at me. "Are you sure about that, Clare?" I nodded. "LIAR!" She screamed.
The force of the sound waves caused the place to shake.
The scenery changed. I was looking at a younger me. I was riding my scooter down the street and just found a younger Violet, who was bruised and bleeding. "Are you okay!" Younger me asked.
She was crying and shook her head. "Daddy hurt me." Past me's eyes widened. I hugged her and she flinched. "Come on, I'll take you to my mommy. She's nice." Little Violet nodded and got up.
We walked back to my house and went inside. "MOM!!!" I yelled.
"Coming!" She ran to us. She gasped at Violet. "Oh, my! What happened to her? Are you alright?" She led Violet in and I followed.
The scenery changed again. This time, we were outside her house and the police just finished taking her father in.
"Thank you, Clara!" She smiled and happily cried in my shoulder. "You're welcome, Vi. I promise, your dad won't ever hurt you again. If he does come back, he'll have to go through me."
The scenery changed again. I don't know where I was though.
Violet was in the corner of the room and she was bruised and bleeding. Crying like there's no tomorrow.
"You bitch! You thought that you can get rid of me. You're," Punch. "fucking," Kick. "worthless!!!" He stomped his foot on her stomach. She coughed out blood and her breathing faultered.

"I wish you were never born! And I wish your mother never left me you!" He picked her up and started to choke her.
Violet's eyes rolled back and she stopped breathing. Her dad continued to beat her even though she was already dead.
Violet died. I broke my promise. I couldn't protect her this time.
The scenery changed back to the park.
Violet was in front of me, holding back her tears. "You broke your promise."

Clare started to groan in pain. I took off the wet towel on her forehead. "Ow..." She groaned again.
Her eyes shot open and we exhaled. "What happened?"
She tried to get up, I pushed her back into bed. "You have a fever and you're injured. I don't think you should be getting up yet." I told her.
She groaned again. "Did you find out where Selene and her hubby are yet?" I shook my head.
"Not yet, but we will." I said. "Hey! Did you forget about us?" Shadow asked. Clare laughed, but groaned afterwards.
"I was so worried! Don't do that again!" Andy exclaimed. Clare rolled her eyes playfully. "Sorry."
Andy went over to her and hugged her. "You scared me." Andy started crying.
Clare flinched. "My back hurts..." Andy pulled away. "Who did this to you?" Andy asked.
Clare hesitated for a moment. "I-I don't know..." I sighed. "Get some rest." I told her. She nodded and closed her eyes.
I went outside to find Aphrodite. I went into her office and closed the door. "Um, can we know where Selene is?" She looked up and smiled.
"Of course." She laid a document down on her desk and slid it over to me. "She met this man named Jake Lewis."
"A handsome man, but has a minor defect." I looked at her confused. "What's his sickness?"
"He has something called psychosis. A mental illness." She looked down sadly.
"So you're saying that a moon goddess fell in love with a hot psycho?" I asked. She nodded.
"Isn't this great!" I sarcastically exclaimed.
"You guys should go. You don't have much time left." I thanked her and went back to Clarissa.

"Okay, first step: Let's make some Brandy." ...that's a maybe then. Author's note: I love the idea of kingdom-building novels and think the genre has a lot to offer, but I don't think many authors do them very well. Here is my attempt. The novel has a strong focus on politics and kingdom building, with occasional action and a bit of humor. Have fun. Cover was made by MrZombie Updates three times a week. First ever time writing so I'll definitely be listening to any constructive criticism you guys have to offer. I'll even pay attention to straight up criticism if I can see some merit in it. I hope you all enjoy.
