《One Moment, One Breath》Chapter Six

Her first two weeks of school had passed fairly quickly and she was starting to become more comfortable with her new vampire friends. Rose was easily her favorite because of her quick wit and dark humor with Emmet being a close second. Alice and Jasper didn't count of course because then she would be biased.
She had spent every other night over at the Cullen's house getting to know them all and letting them get to know her as well.
She, Alice and Jasper had made a little progress on their history project but there was no real rush as it wasn't due until the week before the end of the semester. They had also grown closer, becoming more like friends than simple acquaintances which Aleesia found herself absolutely loving. It was a positively euphoric feeling being so close to her mates, even if they didn't know it. She found herself loving even the small gestures and touches from the two who to this point were still unaware that she had imprinted on them. Edward had been very kind to keep that particular secret.
Aleesia felt conflicted when it came to her mates. She wanted to tell them but felt like it might possibly ruin what little happiness she had found being by their side if they reacted badly. She'd had it basically beaten into her brain from a young age that she was a mistake so she couldn't help but feel like maybe they were better off without her, that it was better she just keep a little distance and watch over them that way rather than risk telling them and potentially hurting them. It was a shitty situation to be in quite frankly and she hated every second of it. She wanted to tell them.
Right now Aleesia was curled up in a corner of the library with one of the books Jasper had recommended on the Civil War. She was avoiding them and avoiding her feelings and she knew it wouldn't last. Eventually they would hunt her down and drag her back to the cafeteria but she just wanted a moment to herself to wallow in self pity.
They didn't need her. They are happy just as they are and there was no reason for her to selfishly ruin that.
Something warm and wet ran down her cheeks and she reached up, brushing the tears away. She marked her page and set the book down before bringing her knees up to her chest and wrapping her arms around them. She rested her head on her arms and took a few steadying breaths.
Crying wouldn't do anything. It wouldn't magically make the situation any better but she still couldn't stop it. It had been a long time since she had cried, the last time being when she was four or five and the leaders explained to her what she was and that she would never truly be one of them. The day that they told her that she was a monster just like her rapist father.
She sighed and untucked her legs before grabbing her bag and heading for the door. She couldn't cope today. It was just a sucky day in general and she didn't really need to be here so she made her way out of the school and to her car. She climbed in and sped away from the school and the further she got, the worse the hollow feeling in her chest became. It was okay though, it would be worth it in the end as long as Alice and Jasper were happy and safe.

Aleesia pulled her car into her driveway and jumped out, slamming the door a little too hard behind her as her emotions began to take away her usual steel grip on her control. A growl ripped from her burning throat and she dropped her bag into the dirt, not caring that it would probably get rained or snowed on, and darted away into the woods.
Aleesia gave into her senses, and followed the earthy smell of the local wildlife. She heard a loud thudding heart nearby and followed it to a small clearing where a large moose was grazing peacefully, completely unaware of the killer that watched him. She didn't hesitate and didn't bother to make it a clean kill as her instincts took over completely, ripping into the bulls throat savagely. Blood spilled, coating not only her parched throat but also staining all down the front of her shirt. At that moment, she couldn't care less. In minutes the moose was dead, drained almost completely and her thirst was somewhat sated but her emotions still burned like a wildfire. Dangerous and out of control.
"Damnit! God fucking damnit!" She cursed, yelling into the empty forest.
Why was she like this? Why had her emotions suddenly gotten the best of her? She had been fighting them just fine for two weeks! Taking a ragged breath, she lowered herself to the ground a short distance from the dead animal. She needed to calm down so she could go home. It was too dangerous to be around anyone when she was like this. Music usually helped but when she patted her pockets for her phone she cursed, realizing she had left it in her bag which was still on the ground by her car.
She let out an aggravated cry and threw herself back onto the ground, grunting slightly as her head smacked a rock. Slowly, she let her eyes drift closed and did her best to drown out the world around her, forcing her rapidly beating heart to slow down. The sounds of the forest slowly faded into the background. Even the insects and wind become silent as the grave as she let her body lull itself into a deep sleep.
She woke up several hours later when the air had cooled exceptionally and her clothes were soaked, signaling that it had rained. She found it odd that the cold wet droplets hadn't woken her earlier, giving her time to seek shelter in the trees. Her emotions were better in check but she felt worn out both mentally and physically which was wierd for her.
"Perfect," She muttered to herself, standing up from the hard ground and dusting herself off. Not that that did any good because the dust that clung to her had now turned into mud.
A hot shower sounded pretty freaking amazing so she turned from the field and ran back to her house, stopping only to grab her bag from the ground outside. She tossed it down onto the couch before running upstairs to her room for a fresh set of clothes. She took her time in the shower, washing away all of the mud and blood from her hunt, letting the boiling hot water soothe away some of her stress.
Soon she emerged and made her way into the living room, wearing a thin spaghetti strap tank top and some boy shorts to sleep in. It was past two o'clock in the morning so she knew no one would be stopping by so she didn't bother dressing for anything but comfort.
She couldn't sleep though so she made herself busy completing school work and working on the group project, doing research. She meticulously typed out her notes, making sure to cite her sources.

By the time she finally began to feel tired again the sun was up and it was time for school. She didn't bother to change, just threw on a half buttoned emerald green and blue flannel and some gray loose sweatpants. Alice would probably have a conniption but she didn't feel like making an effort today. She was too damn exhausted. A quick glance in her bathroom mirror revealed dark circles under her eyes. She shrugged it off and pulled her messy dark hair into a bun on the top of her head then headed for the kitchen to grab something to eat.
She checked her fridge and cursed herself again when she realized she didn't have many options and decided on an apple that had seen better days. She bit her apple, grabbed her bag and headed out the door, preparing herself for another day of hell.
By the time she arrived at school, the parking lot was nearly full and she pulled into her usual spot next to the shiny black car that belonged to Jasper. People eyed her warily as she walked from the parking lot to the main building where her locker was, making sure to keep their distance. For once the mortals were being smart. She was not in the fucking mood today.
She was halfway down the hall, nearly to her locker when she heard a voice call out, "Fucking gross. You can't even dress like a normal person for school?"
She paused for a second, knowing it was directed at her, but bit back her anger and decided to keep walking. Pria was not worth it and Aleesia couldn't care less about what she thought of her sense of fashion. The stupid bitch didn't know when to shut her mouth though and her next comment froze Aleesia in her tracks.
"So what, are you fucking the Cullens now?" Pria sneered, making Aleesia's head whip around.
"What the fuck did you say, You insufferable cuntwaffle?" She hissed, fighting every instinct she had that was screaming for blood. Pria had picked the wrong fucking day so talk shit.
Pria had the sense to look momentarily frightened before she smirked and said, "I mean it's kind of obvious. You follow them around like some kind of sick puppy. I pegged you for stupid but not for a whore."
Blood. She wanted her blood. She could practically feel it running down her throat already. She wanted it , but she would not take it. She didn't want to have to look into her mates eyes and see the disappointment if she murdered this stupid human.
As good as her control on her bloodlust was though, her control on her anger slipped and a second later her fist was smashing into the stupid girls face hard enough to break her nose but not hard enough to kill her or draw blood.
The second after it happened she felt two restraining hands grip her upper arms from behind, pulling her into a hard chest. Jasper's tell tale cinnamon scent filler her senses, calming her by a fraction. Just enough for her to regain control.
Pria was on the ground gripping her face whining. Aleesia smirked, proud she had done enough damage that maybe the stupid bitch would keep her mouth shut now.
"Let's go, Darlin'. Calm down." She heard Jasper's deep southern drawl and her attention switched from the injured mortal to her mate. Butterflies erupted in her stomach at how easily the endearment slipped off his tongue. She felt a huge wave of calm wash over her and she instantly knew Jasper was using his gift, which she greatly appreciated at the moment.
Aleesia nodded and mumbled, "I'm good, Jas. Thank you."
Jasper released her arms but slid one hand into hers, gripping it rather tightly as he pulled her away from the crowd that had formed. Again, her heart jumped at the action but she brushed it off, telling her self he was just trying to make sure she didn't go back and murder the idiotic girl.
He led her to an empty classroom and the first thing she noticed when she entered was that Edward and Bella were there, restraining a rather distressed looking Alice. The second they saw them enter and the door was closed behind them, the two vampires released their sister.
A fraction of a second later the pixie was slamming into her, knocking both of them into Jasper who caught them easily in his arms.
"I was so worried! I saw it! I saw you kill her and I was so scared! Are you okay? What happened?" Alice rushed out, backing up a fraction of an inch to scan over Aleesia's rumpled form.
"I'm fine, Alice. The bitch just got under my skin. I'm okay now, I've got control." She answered, flinching slightly when Jasper's hold tightened on her at the cuss word. He really didn't like when she cussed and she found it almost funny in a way but confusing in others.
Alice's cold hands came up to cup her face and Aleesia's face turned bright red as the vampire spoke, "And why haven't you answered any of my calls or texts? We were worried sick!"
"I'm sorry my phones probably dead. I haven't checked it since yesterday. I was....busy." She mumbled, feeling slightly uncomfortable with the four pairs of golden eyes burning into her.
She heard Edward let out a frustrated sigh, knowing he had seen in her mind exactly why she hadn't checked her phone. He had been quietly urging her to just fess up since the day after he found out, adamant that Jasper and Alice would accept her wholeheartedly. She ignored him though, still fearing that they would see her for the monster she is.
"You're not, and they won't." He piped up from the corner of the room where he and Bella had sequestered themselves away from the frustrating trio of clueless lovers.
Aleesia's glare shot to him and she hissed in her head, Shut it Edward before I shove a pole up you immortal ass and use you as a halloween decoration!
There was a tugging on her backpack, then a tapping sound and Jasper spoke up, "Your phone is dead, and wet. Why is your phone wet Darlin'?" He asked, handing it to her.
Aleesia blushed furiously and snatched ph phone, tucking it into the pocket of her sweatpants. The action caught Alice's eye as she backed away a little more, eyes scanning Aleesia's tired form.
Alice's face scrunched up and she breathed out, "What on earth are you- No, you know what? You look exhausted and I'm done with this place for the day. We're going home and you are going to sleep!"
Edward snickered as Alice grabbed one of Aleesia's hands and one of Jasper's, dragging both of them from the room and out to the parking lot.
"Do you think she will tell them soon?" Bella asked, her voice full of concern.
"I sure fucking hope so. Listening to their thought's is pure torture!" He huffed, pulling his wife into his arms and planting a sweet kiss on her forehead.
In the parking lot Aleesia did her best to protest as she was dragged at a slightly inhuman speed toward Jasper's car.
"Alice! I can't keep missing school! I need to graduate, you know!" She huffed as they reached the car and she was unceremoniously but gently shoved into the back seat where Alice joined her.
"Don't worry, I'll tutor you on what we missed today. You need some rest! No arguing! And don't think for a moment you're getting away with not telling us why you disappeared yesterday!" Alice replied, quickly pulling the seat belt across Aleesia's chest and clipping it into place.
Aleesia scrambled to find a way out of this, knowing it was going to be hard to escape Alic's grasp. Jasper climbed into the front set and started the car just as she blurted out, "What about my car? I can't just leave it here!"
"I'll have Emmet bring it to our house for you." Jasper replied as he reversed out of the parking space and sped out of the parking lot.
Shit, Aleesia thought to her self, How am I going to get out of this?
