《The Will Of The Cat》Chapter Five: Preliminaries

Johny wakes up to an empty existence. He is laying on a white floor within a white void. Sitting up he sees that he is surrounded by nothing. He gets to his feet rubbing his eyes. Staring into the abyss, he pondered if he was still dreaming.

Johny starts to wander.

He begins moving one direction for a while, then breaks into a sprint after what seemed to be 15 minutes. He stays running until his legs go limp and he collapses.

He lays down for awhile, then he tries using his energy.

Nothing.

He stays on the ground, catching his breath, thinking. Thinking of a solution.

Johny then came to a theory: he would have to die.

Just a thought of death, and suddenly a pistol appeared in front of him. He quavers a bit then grabs it, the cold metal sending a shiver throughout his body. He hesitates, then stands up.

Cocking the gun, he puts the barrel to his temple. He stands there, shaking.

"It's just a dream", he says to himself.

Johny then takes a deep breath, closes his eyes, and pulls the trigger.

As he collapses to the ground, he sees his blood spill onto the ground, everything turning red as he falls through the floor.

Johny, now surrounded by water, opens his eyes fully. He's floating upwards, through this sea of glass, and ocean of separation. The whole time, visions going through his head. Nightmares one would never want to recall.

He stays ascending for what seems an eternity, until he nears the surface of the water. He sees the light of the stars glimmer off it's surface. The water is cold. He wants to scream for air, or just just out of agony. He tries to think through his flurry of thoughts.

Nothing.

Johny tries using his energy, but each time he tries forcing it out his body would begin ripping itself apart. He screamed this time, as his body didn't stop, the air escaping his lungs. Blood began surrounding the water in which he was floating and suddenly he flung himself into consciousness, or so it seemed.

Johny sits up looking around, almost frantically, catching his breath. He was in his room. This is his actual room, not the one in the cabin. Another vision?

Johny gets up and walks out into the hall. The white walls now covered in some type of markings. He followed them, leading him towards the living room. He looks down and sees a younger version of himself sitting on the floor messing with his energy, trying to make a ball of lightning.

He grins at himself then notices a flash of gray and black streak by. Startled he looks around and sees it happen again, like tv static. He focuses and sees a towering figure hulking over him.

Eyes were everywhere. Johny felt a cold chill go down his neck and his eyes widened. He started to turn around slowly.

A static sound started to fill the room. The scene faded and Johny awoke.

"What was that?", Johny questions getting up. His heart was slightly racing and his chest felt tight. It felt like something was clutching his heart.

The entire memory of the dream disappears, as if to say, "What was what?".

Johny just shakes his head and looks around.

He's surrounded by trees towering over him and tall grass. The pungent aroma of nature becoming a common scent for him. The sound of water flowing could slightly be heard in the distance along with birds.

"What am I doing in the forest?".

He starts to explore for any trails or anything that would lead towards the cabin. Suddenly, a familiar voice started speaking to him.

"Morning! You must be wondering why you're in the forest. Well, this is your preliminary exam. To be accepted as my disciple you must complete this 'camping trip'. The objective is simple, just make it back to society alive within one month . Oh, and the use of energy manipulation for this exercise is strictly off limits. Well, good luck! I will monitor your progress as you move along. If you fail in any sense, then a punishment shall be decided of promptly".

Johny stood there taking in all this info then realized, Masahiro brought him here.

"Whaa...?!", was all he could respond.

"I don't even know where I am!", he shouted.

Silence.

"Stupid cat. Dragging me further into the woods for this nice, fun little 'camping trip'. Worst of all I can't use energy", Johny mocked in a way.

"Alright then, we'll play by your rules", he boasted accepting the challenge.

He looks around for a moment and finds the tallest tree and begins to climb it.

Breaking three branches and nearly falling twice, he reaches the top and looks around. A sea of trees, a few hills, a few mountain ranges, and a cliff can be seen from the vantage point.

Slightly disappointed that climbing the tree didn't help much he descends. Once he reaches the ground he starts making his way towards the cliff to see if that could help any.

He walks for a few moments and realizes that he hasn't seen or heard any animals other than the birds in the distance.

"That's strange", he contemplates looking around.

"I wonder if there's any bears or wolves in this mountain".

Pushing the thought aside, he continues walking until he sees the cliff above the treeline.

"Almost there", he says aloud as if trying to assure himself.

Suddenly he hears a branch snap. Whirling around he sees a grizzly bear walking towards him.

"Oh, umm... Hey Mr. Bear, and how are you doing today?", he comments before turning around and breaking into a sprint.

"Nice chat, bye!".

He stays running for about four minutes until he decides to stop to look back. He relaxes and takes a sigh of relief seeing that the bear didn't chase after him. As he goes to walk forward the bear is in front of him.

"You're kidding, right?", Johny questions with a little chuckle.

The bear just stares at him blinking.

"I'll take that as a 'no'".

Johny then closed his eyes and took a deep breath.

"Alright then, eat me!", he shouts opening his eyes.

The bear is nowhere in sight. Johny looks around and sees that the bear is completely gone.

"Did you run away?!".

Johny stood there for a moment contemplating what just happened then continued on his way towards the cliff. Once he reached the cliff side, he looked up. It was about 300 meters high.

"Is there any way around?", Johny questioned looking each way.

"Nope. There's no way around it. At least not for a few miles. Guess I'll climb it", Johny gulped.

Johny then began the arduous ascension. Losing grip a few times near the middle, he starts to climb faster. A few rocks break off as he gets closer to the top and as he finally reaches the top he flips over and lays flat on his back catching his breath.

A few minutes pass and Johny gets up looking at the progress he made. He can't help but smile.

He looks around for any sign of his house and sees a familiar body of water a few miles off.

"Seriously? Is the house over there?", he whined.

"And it's barely mid-day?!", he continued.

"I need to find some food. Some water too", he says hearing his stomach growl and feeling the temperature increasing.
