《Leather Jacket Girl (girlxgirl)》Chapter Twelve

A few days later, it was time to go back to school. I felt a lot better. I knew that I had a tendency to be sensitive, especially as far as Emmy was concerned but this was different. I knew that I needed to control my jealousy and I would do just that. At the end of it all, Emmy was my best friend and that was all that mattered to me. Well, partially all that mattered to me. I knew that I had strong feelings for her that I wasn't sure would ever go away. What did it matter, though? I loved Emmy and it wasn't worth potentially risking our entire friendship over this. There were other girls. There were other girls, yes, but there was only one Emmy.
I looked up at the blue sky as I sketched in my art book and simply exhaled.
I decided that I would be kind not only to myself but Emmy, too, and Courtney, too. I needed to get to know Courtney better though and I had realised that. I decided that it would be nice for me to go and grab some cookies from the cafeteria so that I could give them to my friends as gifts. They would like that, especially after the whole brownie debacle. I still hadn't mentioned that to my mother. It seemed too upsetting to say anything about.
School was made better because of my friends, though and so that was why I wanted to do something nice for all of them.
I walked into the cafeteria so that I could purchase the cookies and then turned around to find Courtney sat down behind me, scrolling on her phone.
I went to sit with her and she looked up at me. Her bright blue eyes were complemented greatly by her thick eyelashes but that wasn't the point here! I hadn't come over here to get distracted by a pretty girl.

"Do you want a cookie?" I asked her.
"I'm allergic to hazelnuts. Only if I eat them, though. So, don't worry, you don't have to throw the cookies away like they're a heinous criminal," she joked.
I met her with an apologetic expression at that.
"I'm sorry, Courtney. I really didn't have a clue," I said.
"It's okay, Clarke. Don't worry about it," she replied.
Courtney gazed back down at her phone and I quickly realised she wasn't texting anyone at all. She was playing Flappy Bird. How had she even got a hold of Flappy Bird? I could have sworn that it had been discontinued ages ago.
Courtney cursed under her breath as she lost and then looked back up at me.
"Catch the grape, go!" she said.
"What?" I asked her.
Before I could even fully comprehend what she was doing, she flung a grape at me.
I swiftly opened my mouth to catch it.
Courtney chuckled.
"That was entertaining," she said.
Safe to say she was a little unpredictable, apparently.
Courtney's eyebrows furrowed together soon after that, as she looked back towards her phone. It seemed that she had gotten a text. She then looked back up at me and her eyes narrowed. I had to question whether I had done anything wrong, which actually seemed fairly ridiculous. How could I have done anything wrong? I had simply been sitting there with her and she had been the one to throw green fruit at me!
"I'm going to class," she said.
"Okay do you want me to-"
"No," she said, not letting me finish, as she walked away.
Well, someone had all of a sudden decided to take a swim in the angry girl pool.

I gave a slight shrug of my shoulders, as the bell rang which signalled that it was time for me to get to class anyway.
At least Emmy took one of my cookies. I explained to her the little Courtney situation.
"And then she just walked away, really?" Emmy asked me, as we sat down next to each other inside the classroom.
"Yeah! It's weird, right?" I asked her.
"Definitely weird," Emmy said in agreement.
"Girls!" Mr C said, as he dragged a finger across his lips to signal that it was time for us to be quiet.
Emmy gave him an apologetic look in return for that but it didn't stop her from soon turning back to me.
"Did you ask anyone out?" Emmy asked me.
"I'm planning on it," I grumbled.
"Who?" Emmy asked me.
"I can't tell you that, you'll say you have dibs," I said.
Emmy raised an eyebrow at me, then, but I wasn't about to tell her my secrets. No way.
Fortunately, I did manage to get some of my math work done despite being slightly distracted.
Once we were done, we stepped back out into the hall to meet with Elijah.
"I may have made the both of you a cheat sheet for the next exam. I must preface this by saying that you can't use it to actually cheat but it's there if you need it," Elijah said.
"You're the best, Elijah! Thank you," I told him with a grin.
I knew that the two of us could always rely upon him to help us out when need be.
"I do my best," Elijah said, as he raised one of his slightly muscular arms up to move through his hair.
Elijah allegedly spent hours in the gym on the weekends, according to Emmy.
I could believe it.
"Let's go and eat outside. It's a nice day," Elijah said.
The skies were blue and by the time we had got back outside again I found that there was a gentle breeze, too. It was almost a perfect day. The only thing that could have made it better would have been if Courtney hadn't been so quick to get up and walk away. What was going through that girl's mind? I wasn't sure but now I felt more curious than ever to figure it out than ever before. That was only part of the parcel, though. I still had to figure out how I was going to ask her out. This whole thing seemed to be more difficult than I had initially expected.
