Nathaniel's POV

I waited long enough it was killing knowing she was right behind those doors... Yet I couldn't see her. When I heard Nick raise his voice I used my werewolf hearing to listen in on what was being said. "What about Nate? Huh? He choose his mate over you and he's the reason you even in this situation" the bastard was trying to throwing me under the bus. I got up from my spot and made my way to her room. I stopped mid stride when I heard her delicate voice.

"Why are you doing this? We're not talking about Nate right now and if Nate did find his mate I would have let him go just as I'm doing with you" she said to him. We had spoke about the possibilities of finding our mates. I told her when the time came we would deal with it. I know that if I had found my mate under different circumstances I would have made the decision to end things with Alexa. She knew this as well as I did which was why when I found out Nick was her mate I told her I wouldn't stand in the way. This whole situation is so messed up. One person changes fate and it affects everyone in someway or another.

I couldn't stand not seeing especially with Nick filling her head with half the story. I turned the knob to her door and walked in. My heart dropped Alexa was in a heated kiss with Nick. When he pulled away he thanked her. She made her decision... She choose him. I guess there was no point in sticking around if she was only going to tell me she had chosen her mate. I closed my eyes for a second taking a deep breath when I opened them she gasped as her eyes peered into mine. I quickly left closing the door behind me. I walked down the hall with my head low when I bumped into someone. I quickly steadied the person. I looked up a noticed it was Hannah. "Nate! Look what you did that was the last chocolate cake they had in the cafeteria" she huffed looking at the splattered cake on the floor.

"I'm sorry Hannah I didn’t see you there, I thought you went home?" I asked. She was the one who was going to take the news hard. I shook my head looking a her rounded belly. "I was but I decided I would wait for Nate. He's going to need someone for support when he walks out that door" she said sadly. I was shocked Hannah had no idea. I sighed how could Nick do this to her? I watched as she continued to look down at the cake. "Hannah how about I take you to eat up the road and I'll by you another chocolate cake?" I asked she looked at me her blue eyes shined with excitement. "But what about Nick? I think I should wait Nate... Even though the cake idea is tempting... I'm going to wait for my mate" she said smiling. I nodded "Okay but if for some reason you need someone you call me, and I’ll be here" I said because the poor girl had high hopes for her and the family she's going to have with Nick. She looked at me funny, but nodded in agreement. I left her behind and walk out the hospital I shut my link off. I didn't want to talk with no one.

I made my way to my truck after sitting behind the wheel for what felt like hours. Just thinking how I'm going to sit back and watch them together. I sighed and started the ignition and made my way home. It hurt to know I would never share the love I have for Alexa with no one else and I would never be with my mate. I had to be strong I would be happy for her. I will be there for her whenever she'll need me. I pulled up to the house and I was surprised to see Alexa's mother sitting at my steps. I got out of my truck and made my way to her.

"What are you doing out here? You could have waited inside" I said to her she smiled sadly. "It's fine I don't want to cause any problems with Dahlia right now; she's upset with me and I don't want to push her any further away from me then she already is." I looked at her you could hear the sadness behind her words. "Well Mrs. Rose you don't have to wait outside any longer this is my home and you are welcome here anytime. C’mon in, I'm sure you didn't come here just to see my handsome face?" I said trying to lighten the mood.

"Please call me Melania" She said while laughing which was the exact way Alexa's laughed only Alexa's was more like music to my ears... I shook my head god I was going to miss her. We made our way into the kitchen area. "Would you like something to drink?" I asked as she sat on the island stool. "A glass of water is fine" she said I filled her a glass of water and pulled a muscle milk for myself I was feeling drained I needed some protein.

I sat across from her, she took a sip of water. Then looked at me. "I want to offer you the Alpha position in the Silver Moon Pack. Julius gone there needs to be someone to take his place. I know things don't normally happen like this. Since I was the one to kill him the Alpha title would go to me but I'm in no position to be an Alpha so I'm offering it to you" she said nervously. I was at a lost for words I didn't know what to say. Taking on a pack was a big responsibility not only that what about my pack here.

"I know what I'm asking is something big of you and you don't have to answer now... But I want you to think about it. I know you love my daughter and to be quite honest I know enough to say her staying in this pack will deteriorate her. Sliver Moon has tons of families that unfortunately some of the males were forced to become what Julius wanted" she stated.

"Melania... I don't know. I mean there's so much to think about. Right now Alexa may have other plans with what she wants. You may want to talk with her first" I stated I was the only one that knew what she and Nick decided. I knew big things were going to come from their decision. I heard footsteps coming down the steps from the side of the kitchen. Melania froze I looked behind me and there stood Dahlia who was shooting daggers at her mother.

"What are you doing here?" She hissed. I narrowed my eyes at her and stood from my chair. "Dahlia, that is enough. This is my house therefore who I invite is none of your concern. If you have a problem with that you can turn right back around" I said in a harsh tone. I was tired of her attitude.

"Fine! You both are one of a kind. I don't want to be surrounded by selfish people like use anyways!" She yelled and stormed off. I sighed pinching the bridge of my nose.

"She hates me for leaving them..." I turned to see Melania in tears. "I don't blame her I should have tried to reach out and look for them, but how could I? I thought I was doing the right" she whispered wiping her tear stained face. "I don't think she hates you she's just upset and once she knows why you did what you did she'll forgive you" I said giving her a little hope.

"I know that once Alpha Nick comes back this evening he's having a meeting on what's the next move with the Silver Moon pack" I said as she nodded her head. "I heard I will be in attendance. I have to get going I have my son with one of women from my pack... He can be a handful... One day you'll see what I mean when you have your own" I froze I wouldn't be able to have kids I could try but it was very difficult and rare for another she wolf can hold a pup through full term. I smiled back at her. "Well I guess I will see you tonight" I said as I walked her out the door.

I leaned against the door frame and sighed so much shit has happened in the passed month I feel extremely drained. I could feel someone trying to push through mind-link but I kept my wall up. I headed up the stairs to my room. I inhaled deeply because her scent was still lingering around but it was slowly diminishing. The thought cause my chest to tighten. I need to get my life back on track. I'm the fucking beta I needed to be the strong arrogant prick I was before I met Alexa.

I took a long shower, and made a quick dinner. Since Dahlia decided to cook just enough for herself and Mason. Man that girl can really hold a grudge. I bite my tongue around her because she's Mason's mate and Alexa's sister but I can only take so much I'm going to have to have a talk with him about her. It was night and we were supposed to meet at the pack house for a meeting. I was running late but no one seemed to notice my absence. I had to settle my mind before I faced Nick.

Pulling up to the pack house there were car I've never seen before. Sliver Moon pack must be here already. I could see Adam with Nick and they seem to be in deep conversation. They both noticed my presents and Adam called me over. I took long strides to where they were. "What's up with you Nate I've been trying to get ahold of you" Adam said. "I'm sorry I just had to clear my mind so I closed off everyone but I'm here now" I said I could feel Nick stare on me.

"Adam can you give us a minute?" Nick asked. Adam looked at both of us skeptically. "Are you both going talk or should I stand by just in case things get physical?" He asked with one brow raised. I smiled because this time I won't be causing anything physical. "We'll be find Adam... Thanks for your concern" I said he laughed throwing an arm over both of us. "Oh my boys are growing up so fast" he mocked in a high pitch voice. All three of us laughed breaking the tension, as he walked off he turn pointing two fingers at his eyes signaling he’s watching.

"You know we've known each other since we were in diapers you were always there for me and supported me when I became Alpha. I couldn't have asked for a better beta than you" I looked at him he was telling the honest truth and I knew this.

"Nick we were like brothers man... What happened?" I questioned.

"Dude you sleep with my mate... but, that’s partly my fault... we're brothers Nate and I messed up along the way making wrong decisions which lead us to the place we are now" he said by now we walked by the falls. I looked down as the mist floating in the air kissed my face. We both stood with our hands in our pocket. In a comfortable silence. "And for those reasons I couldn't ask for a better person then you to take care of Alexa... I love her bro but she and I will never workout the way it's supposed to. I understand that now as much as I hate it I'm going to have to be okay with it" I heard everything he just said, but it didn't make sense I saw the kiss him thanking her for choosing him.

"Nick I don't understand... I saw you two at the hospital..." I said looking at him as he gave a sad smile and nodded. "It was my goodbye kiss" he whispered. Looking down at his shoes. I didn't know what to say. He clapped his hand on my shoulder. "Take care of her Nate... She deserves it" he said and walked away. Leaving me there dumbfounded. She didn't choose him... I got it all wrong I need to go to her I quickly turned and made my way to my truck until Adam linked. 'Nate we need you here we're starting the meeting' he said damn it I forgot about that damn meeting I groaned. I walked over to the pack house where everyone was seated in circle form. You could feel the tension in the room as two different pack sat amongst each other. As I walk towards the front I nodded towards a few and I was surprised to see Addison and her mate Bryson here. She smiled when she saw me causing a warning growl from her mate. I guess I'm still a touchy subject.

I made it up to the front where Nick was with Adam and Melania. I looked at her she smiled. "What's going on?" I asked Nick who looked at me sadly. "Melania has told me of the proposition she offered you. I had offered to combine packs but she refused. Technically the land they are on belongs to Crescent Falls but my father had given it to him to start up his own pack to get away from him so we're trying to come up with some sort of compromise" he stated. You could see it in his eyes that this whole situation wasn't something he wanted to deal with right now.

I looked over at Melania who was looking at Nick annoyed. She knew that Nick was Alexa's true mate. "Alpha Nicholas... Julius may have done his wrong doing that I didn't agree with, believe me...but there are families who had no idea what he was doing some have lost their mates their children I'm willing to pay for the land we live on. The only thing we'll share would be the town and schools" she said to Nick.

"What about an Alpha you still need a male leader by your side?" He ask while Melania looked my way with pleading eyes. I took a deep breath maybe it's for the best for me to take the Alpha position for the Silver Moon. I can take Alexa the bond between her a Nick will eventually die down. But then there's my brother and my friends that I wouldn't be able to see on a daily basis. I'll figure things out as I go. I stood strong stood by Melania gave her a light nod which in return she gave me a genuine smile.

"I'll step in as Alpha of Silver Moon Pack" I stated firmly I heard Adam choke on air while Nick looked at me in total disbelief. "Nate... Do you understand what your saying?" Nick asked in a harsh tone I nodded

"Nick I understand completely... Now try and understand me. This will be the best for both of us and you know what I'm talking about" I said narrowing my eyes at him. His eyes were turning a shade of charcoal grey. His wolf was surfacing this is the soul purpose I'm doing this. Him seeing her everyday with me would kill him slowly. 'Nick relax... This is not the place just get this meeting over with so I can leave' I mind linked to him. He looked at me his eyes return his shade of blue. 'This is it then...' I nodded.

Nick turned to the packs sitting before us. He cleared his throat. "We have come to an agreement... Sliver Moon and Crescent Falls will not join as one. We will be neighboring packs and work together if needed. We will share the town and the schools but same rules apply in order to cross over into each others territory you must receive permission from the Alpha which is me of course. I will step to the side so that your current Luna Melania can speak" Nick stated as he stepped to one side and Melania took his place. She looked around nervously I gave her a slight nod. "I will be appointing a new Alpha for Silver Moon" she stated you could hear gasp and chatter around the room. "Once everything is settled and clean on Silver Moon territory you will meet your new Alpha in due time we will start a new life, a better one… you all may return home." she stated and smiled at her pack members. Nick walked over to me.

"You know we'll have to do a stepping down ceremony... I don't think one of those have been done in ages" He said while shaking his head. "I'm sure Adam will do the beta position justice" I said sadly Nick put out his hand and I shook it while pulling him into a hug. "I'm going to miss you bro" Nick said pulling back I chuckled "Nick I'll be a couple hours away... We'll work this out... Let me get out of here because I got some explaining to do to someone" I said not wanting bring her up again in front of him. He nodded and smiled. I turned and ran towards my truck I didn't want to mind-link her I wanted to see her face to face. It was about and hour away hopefully Mary won't give me a hard time for being there so late. "Baby here I come" I said to myself.

Alexa's POV

After Nick had left I tried getting through to Nate but he had his wall up. That man is many things but stubborn is his middle name. I asked Dr. Mary if I was able to get out she told me she had to run some test and make sure my blood levels were okay than I would be able to go home and rest. I groaned as I stared at the clock. It's been hours since she's took my blood.

'How are you doing? I know that earlier was hard for you but we'll be okay' I whispered in my head to my wolf.

'I'm okay I have been on protective mode since everything happened to make sure we're all safe' she said happily.

'I feel like most my body is fully healed' I said to her. 'Having Nick around was a big help... But now there's only one wolf we need...' She stated.

'Nate...' I whispered.

I pushed the nurse button for the millionth time. "No Alexa the results are not in yet" Nurse Ivy said through the intercom I sighed "Thank you Ivy... Sorry for pestering you" I said tiredly. I was going to have Nick go after him but it wouldn't have been the best idea. There was a knock at the door. "Come in" I called. Dr. Mary came in smiling.

"So I heard through the grapevine you’re looking for your test results" she said I nodded and smiled. "Yes and I'm sorry for buzzing so much it. Actually it's pretty addicting! having someone at your beck and call with just a push of a button is pretty awesome" I said with a giggle.

"I might one of those to take with me" I said while Dr. Mary chuckled.

"Well Miss. Rosé I have your results..." She said as her body language changed from happy to nervous, which caused me to get a little antsy as well.

"What is Dr. Mary?" I questioned nervously. She looked at me and smiled.

"I'm sorry sweetie that's very unprofessional of me. I just saw something on the chart that caught my eye" she placed her chart on my side table.

"Let me take a listen to your heart" I sat up as she put her stethoscope in her ears and listened to my chest then my back then to my stomach. Once she was done she looked at me and said the words I thought I would never hear. "Alexa... Your pregnant" I gasped covering my mouth with my hands. As tears filled in my eyes.

"Are you... Are you sure...?" I asked. "Yes, very...in fact when I just listened to your abdominal I heard two very strong heart beats" I started to cry and giggle at the same time this can not be happening... "If that's true Dr. Mary they won't last full term Nate is not my mate" I said sadly.

"Oh sweetie... That maybe true and we'll just have to keep and eye on you. It's all up to your wolf on how she handles caring another males pups other than her mates. Your wolf and your body will know what to do if this is what you want of course?" She asked. Of course I wanted a family but the question still stands if Nate will after him seeing me kiss Nick all kinds of assumptions maybe running through his head.

"Yes... I want this more than you know" I said placing my hand on my belly. I'm going to be a mother... My heart grew ten times bigger. Knowing I was pregnant by the man that I grew to love brought me into a new high.

"Alexa I will get together a care package and a list of do's and don't s it may take an hour just try and get some rest" she said as she walked out the door. I groaned another hour here alone. There was a knock at my door my heart started beating a mile a minute what if it was him behind that door. What do I say... 'Hey sorry you saw me kiss Nick...it meant nothing but I'm having your babies' I thought shaking my head I guess I'll just see what comes out my mouth.

"Come in" I said in a shaky tone. I breathed a sigh of relief it was only Jonah and Val...and Michael. "What are you guys doing I asked. "We came to see you baby girl... It's so boring with all these damn trees around, and all you hear are animals... I'm use to the city life sweetie" Jonah said I laughed this guy was to much. "I'm sorry we don't have flashing lights and people fist pumping down the blocks over here" I said with a chuckle.

"I know tell me about!" He said. I looked over at Michael who stood off to the said not to far from Val. I looked between both of them with on brow up. She rolled her eyes." If your wondering why he's here... Well he won't leave me alone" she said annoyingly. I looked over at Michael who was pissed.
