《Peridot x Human!Reader》Chapter 5 - Blankets and Balance

Your eyes shined brightly at the new found idea that your new roommate was an alien. It astounded you. You looked at Peridot in amazement.
"So what else can you do, Peri?" You chimed to her. Your smile was almost face splitting as you looked towards her in curiosity.
Peridot looked at you in utter confusion as to how excited you were about herself. Was it really a big deal to humans? Peridot started in, "First of all, your pronunciation of my name is incorrect." She put one finger up, "Peri-" and then put another finger up, "-dot. Put the two of those syllables together and then my name can be pronounced correctly so." Then she put her two fingers together, "Peridot. See, human? Simple." She had a mousy grin on, as if she had taught you something new.
You had to cover your mouth from the small giggles you had escaping, finding it funny that she still didn't understand that you were using a nickname for her. "No, Peridot, it's a nickname. Remember what i said before? it's just a way that you can shorten your name so it makes it easier and cooler to use. "
"C-Cooler?" Was it cooler to be called a shorter way of speech? human ways didn't make any sense sometimes.
"Yeah." You simply put. you smiled warmly at her. maybe you would only use her nickname when she made herself more comfortable with the living conditions. "So anyway, Peridot, what other things can you do?"
"Things?" Peridot stated back. "Well, i use to be able to walk correctly until.." She stopped, remembering that you knew nothing about the Crystal Gems and how Steven was involved. Peridot decided to leave you out of the mess for now. no reason to explain things to you. You had no part of the matter as far as Peridot was concerned. Explaining the reason behind the loss of her boot would only lead to further questions. "Until I...Lost it.." She quickly covered up the true reasoning to the lost footwear.

"Oh? Well that's a bit of a bummer. Why not just take the other boot off so you can walk more properly?" You started to question. Wouldn't it be logical to take one boot off if you didn't have the other one?
"No!" Peridot quickly retracted from you, shielding her last boot from your reach. "Don't touch my limb enhancers!" She started to get nervous. The enhancers were pretty important to Peridot, as she had made them herself.
"Okay okay. i won't touch them." You stated in protest with your hands up slightly. You found it weird that she would want to keep them on, but whatever make her more comfortable, you guessed.
"Peridot uncurled a bit, realizing you weren't going to try and take them off of her. You stood up at that moment and started to look around the house for materials. If Peridot was going to live at your place, she was going to need her own space. And you had just the idea. You searched for a few pillows and blankets and a curtain or even a thinner blanket to make a sheet out of.
Peridot's curiosity got the better of her and urged her to follow you in pursuit. As you rummaged through a storage closet, you retrieved some of the things you had been looking for. as you grabbed a pile of pillows and blankets, you walked into your room, nudging the door open with your foot. When you got into the room, you plopped the items onto the floor and turned back around to search for a curtain rod. You knew you actually had one laying around when you bought them initially for your own curtains on the windows. You had some spare ones that you hadn't used and kept put away.
As you turned around though, you had bumped into a curious green Peridot who was following behind a bit too closely. "oof! oh, sorry Peri! are you okay?" When you bumped into Peridot, the alien had fallen over on her rump, already imbalanced from her lack of one boot.

You had hurriedly got down to help her up, but Peridots embarrassment of following you and then falling down only caused her to burn bright green on her cheeks. "I-I'm fine! I was only observing!
You slightly chuckled. "That's fine, Peridot. It's okay. But you might be more stable if you took the other boot off." You hinted down to the unbalances of herself.
"N-No!" She stuttered. "I'm fine!" She lumped her way back into the hallway, watching you from a bit farther now.
As you nodded to her, not persisting on her hardheadedness, you walked upstairs to get into the storage bins you had in the upper room. The only thing up there was largest closet for storage and another bathroom. As you found your necessary item, you started your way back down the stares. You then heard a quick stepping and then two loud thumps, followed by a cry of pain. you rushed around the corner to look down the stares to see a Peridot at the bottom.
You shouted down to her as you quickly made your way back down. "Peridot! are you okay? how far down did you fall?" You were worried that she may have severely injured herself. aside from a few pin pricks of tears from pain swelling in her eyes and a rough looking head of hair, she seemed okay.
"I-I'm fine! i just.." She glared down at the boot. She was frustrated that you were right. the lone boot was causing her imbalance and she hated it.
"Hey, it's okay! look.. i understand if you really like your.. limb enhancers..but it's probably not safe to keep it on any longer." You said with genuine concern in your voice.
She struggled for a second in her mind, not wanting to give in, but knowing it was for the best. Peridot slowly nodded her head in hesitation and pressed a button on the side of the boot. it made a loud shutter noise and let loose of Peridot's leg. She wiggled her foot out of the socket it was in and quickly held the boot close to her. you could now see her for her real size after she took off the rest of the limb enhancers from her arms as well.
As she held her gadgets close to herself, she looked up at you in embarrassment. "Oh my gosh! your such a cutie!" You squeaked. you smiled at her as her face burned a new shade of green. "I am not!" She gave a cracked scream towards you as you made your way back to your room with a bit of a giggle.
You made quick work of the curtain rods and then threw a thinner blanket of the pile through the loops. it made a quick curtain that would easily be pulled around so that Peridot had her own personal space. It may be a small area but it seemed to suffice.
You gave your own touches to it, laying down a thick mattress of blankets and a pile of pillows as well. "Well," You said as you started to back away from the corner. "How do you like it?" Peridot slowly moved in on the little space in the corner of your room. She sat down and looked around, stood back up and shut the curtains. She then proceeded to open and close them a few times, as if to see how it worked. Opening them up once more, she sat back down again, and then lay back, flopping back onto the pillows. Her mind seemed to be blown by how comfy the new found area of hers was. She then got up once more to grab her barren limb enhancers and set them into her corner, shutting the curtain as she stepped in.
Before she shut them all the way, she peeked out from behind the blanket. "T-Thank you, Hu- i mean, uh.. (N)..Thank you for this.." Her eyes dodged to the side and then sunk behind the blanket some more.
You smiled at her warmly and happily, enthusiastic about Peridot's appreciation for what you had done. Your welcome Peri!"
