[ start of second chance at first line part two ]

at school, after enduring countless hours of maths and biology, an interaction speaking of lunch involving Allison, Scott, Stiles, El and Jaden, and a threat from Lydia, the Argent and Hale girls were being introduced to two lacrosse players from the team.

"Eleanor, Allison, meet Will and Dan!" Eleanor smiled friendly at the two boys in front of them and gave a small wave.

"Hi, it's nice to meet you."

Lydia smirked, looking between the two pairs confidently, fiddling with her strawberry blonde locks absentmindedly. "They're the new girls, they just moved here. You must already know of Elle, she's already got quite the reputation from my party the other night."

Dan nodded, eyeing Eleanor as Will did the same, although his attention mainly focused on Allison. "Yeah, yeah, I've heard of you, just never got the pleasure to meet you. How are you liking it here, girls?"

Both Allison and Eleanor turned to look at one another for an answer, however replied shortly with a shrug. "It's been good so far, I like it."

"Well, hopefully you can catch up later? A certain three guys are looking for you Ella." Lydia glanced down the hallway and giggled deviously, pulling Allison, Dan and Will with her as both Scott, Jaden and Stiles caught up to her.

Stiles huffed. "So, Lydia's been introducing you to everyone?"

"Yeah, she's still being unbelievably nice to me. She's been so lovely to me and Allison, it's really surprised me." Jaden scowled, glaring holes into Dan and Will at the end of the corridor.

"You're not getting a boyfriend until we leave this place." Eleanor rolled her eyes at his overdramatised statement, shoving him slightly.

"They weren't actually bad guys, Will even complimented Allison's jacket. Give the overprotective brother role a break."

Scott's breath hitched in his throat as he grabbed her shoulders, a look of urgency plastered deep into his eyes. "The jacket. Where did she get it from?"

"Scott, breathe. Derek left it in her locker, she forgot it when he drove her home the other night."

Without hesitation, Scott took off down the hall, nearly knocking into Allison as he caught up to where she was, leaving Eleanor, Stiles and Jaden to head to their next class together.

Eleanor didn't even catch a glimpse of Scott after school when the bell finally rang, and so she was not the least bit surprised when he appeared at the Hale house later that day, shouting through the trees as he neared the building.

"Derek, stay the hell away from her! She doesn't know anything." Both twins already knew that Derek had exited the house to greet Scott, and so they watched from afar, keeping a curious eye on the two.

"What if she does, Scott? Just because your little buddy Stiles has googled werewolves and you think you know all the answers, doesn't mean you're correct! You don't get it yet, I thought you would considering El and Jaden are your friends, but I'm looking out for you Scott. We all are."

Eleanor and Jaden took this as their cue to join in on the conversation. "Think about what could happen, S. Yesterday was a disaster on the field, but it could get even worse. You could be out on the field, the aggression takes over, and you shift in front of everyone. You're mom, all your friends."

Eleanor nodded in agreement with Jaden. "And then everything might fall apart."

Scott stayed silent, glaciated between the three siblings, conflicted. He stood still for a moment, before deciding the best thing he could do was leave the premises and figure out how to control this, whatever this was. Something seemed odd to him, the way El's eyes were redder than usual, how Jaden's hair was disheveled and how Derek seemed even more distant than usual. They all seemed to know something he didn't. He could sense it. He could also sense that it had something to do with the patch of replaced mud next to the house.

"Derek, we're home from school!" Eleanor called, shutting the door slowly behind her as she slung her bag off of her back and onto the table in the kitchen.

Derek immediately ran into the room, shutting the door loudly behind him, his posture stiffer and his eyes tainted a faint red. "What are you doing home so early?"

Jaden squinted, reaching for his phone as he checked the time. "We aren't. It's quarter to four Der,"

"Have you got any plans for tonight?" Derek's intrusive question made Eleanor furrow her eyebrows.

"No, why?" The elder brother became more shifty at this answer, glancing between the twins and the door behind him.

Jaden stepped forward, eyeing him suspiciously. "What are you keeping from us?"

Derek sighed, letting go of the door handle as he pulled up a chair, slumping into it as he gestured for Jaden and El to do the same. As soon as they were sat around the table, Derek reached to hold both of their hands.

At this, Eleanor had become extremely worried, her hands beginning to shake for the news that awaited her. "Derek, you're scaring me."

"Look, I, uh don't know what to tell you," He started breathily, his leg bouncing up and down and he tried to let the tears burying themselves in his eyes.

Suddenly, it clicked for Jaden, and he immediately pulled his hand up and shot up from his seat, staring at the door intensely before looking back to Derek, his eyes filling with tears. "No."

Eleanor's eyes flickered between the two. "What? Der, Jade, what's going on?"

"No, no. Please tell me, please tell me I'm wrong." The tears welling in Jaden's eyes overflowed and Derek stood up, moving towards him. However, Jaden shook his head and headed for the door.

"Someone," Eleanor choked, "Someone needs to tell me what's going on."

"She's dead, El." Jaden muttered, sniffing slightly. "Laura's dead."

The words that had fell from Jaden's lips caused Eleanor's silence. Subconsciously, she had held her breathe, and her mind had gone haywire with the idea that her older sister was dead. She couldn't be, she would have felt it.

Eleanor released her breath shakily and shook her head, refusing the idea. "No, no she's not."

"Eleanor-"

"You're wrong. She's not dead Derek, she's-" Eleanor hiccuped, interrupting herself as she brought her hands up to her mouth. "She's not dead,"

Derek sighed, a tear rolling down his cheek as he moved forward, toward Eleanor as she shook her head repetitively. "You're wrong. You're wrong, she's fine. She's not-"

"El, it's going to be okay." Her older brother pulled her into his chest, rubbing her arm as she shook.

"Laura can't be dead, Der." She let out a small cry at the words that had left her lips.

"I would've felt something. She, she's my sister, she can't be dead."

"She'd been gone over a month El, you weren't connected to her." Derek replied calmly, holding his little sister tightly as she hiccuped, letting out a loud sob.

Shaking her head, consistent tears rolling freely down her cheeks. "No, no. It can't be, no. Laura, she's- I just-"

As the sobbing got louder and she became more shaky, she leant against Derek, pulling him to the floor desperately as she clung to his shirt, the state of denial decreasing slightly.

Jaden watched from the doorway silently, before joining the two on the floor, all three siblings crying for their fallen sister. They had lost a loved one, and it was the most painful thing Eleanor had yet to experience.

The hurting continued, and the memories with Laura that Jaden, Eleanor and Derek held within them got pulled even closer to their aching heart, the reality of losing her was heartbreaking.

"Can, can I see her?" She hiccuped, her crying still yet to seize as she continuously wiped her face furiously.

Derek shook his head solemnly. "I buried her before you got home, I'm sorry. I wish it could be different."

All three siblings looked between one another in despair as Eleanor sighed. "Yeah, me too."

Eleanor, Derek and Jaden watched Scott as he left and Eleanor sighed, turning to her two brothers, avoiding eye contact in fear of her emotions becoming too much. "I'm heading to the hospital, Lydia wants me there."

Derek furrowed his eyebrows, concerned for his sisters wellbeing. He knew that being an empath with haywire emotions did not settle well, and all he wanted to do was make sure that Eleanor was safe and happy. "El-"

"I need to go." With that, she climbed into her car, starting the ignition before driving off, trying to focus more on the directions of the road and less on her family.

It took a mere few minutes to arrive at the hospital, meaning that Eleanor arrived just as Lydia and Jackson. Jackson demanded he wanted a shot in his shoulder to boost his performance in lacrosse tomorrow, and Lydia didn't want to wait around in the hospital by herself. Allison was busy and Eleanor was Lydia's only friend available, and so here she was, sitting with the strawberry blonde in the waiting room of Beacon Hills Memorial.

"So, want to tell me what's going on?" The question caught Eleanor off guard and Lydia rolled her eyes.

"You must be utterly ridiculous if you thought I wouldn't be able to tell. Now, why are you so upset?"

Eleanor squeezed her eyes shut, thinking subconsciously about Laura. It felt as if she could smell her. "It's nothing Lyds."

"Are you-"

"I am positive. Thank you for asking though." Lydia nodded, giving Eleanor a small smile as she looked toward the entrance.

She cleared her throat. "Isn't that your friend Stilo?"

Eleanor would've burst into hysterical laughter at the attempt of Stiles' name if she wasn't in such a foul mood, however she wanted to stay away from both him and Scott for as long as she could. They knew her better than anybody and it would only be a matter to time until they figured it out.

Therefore, she cursed under her breath and slipped further into the seat, muttering. "Don't let him see me. Please?"

Lydia furrowed her eyebrows in confusion but nonetheless played along and made sure that Stiles could not see her brunette friend, jumping as her Bluetooth began ringing, pressing the accept button as she began to talk to her mom.

After a few minutes of Lydia and Ms. Martin talking to one another, the conversation haunted and Jackson appeared from the doorway of a doctor's room, rubbing his shoulder tenderly as Lydia stood up, making her way towards her beloved boyfriend. Eleanor, however, tried to be as discreet as possible, manoeuvring beside Lydia as she ignored what she could of Stiles as he read through a leaflet.

"Well? Did he do it?" The fiery girl asked impatiently, crossing her arms over her chest.

Jackson nodded slightly, wincing. "Yeah, he told me not to make a habit of it but a cortisone shot won't kill me."

"You should get one right before the game too, the pros do it all the time. Are you going to be a high school amateur, or do you want to go pro?" Lydia leant into him seductively as Eleanor cringed, looking away from them both, only to catch the attention of Stiles.

He frowned in concern upon seeing the redness of her eyes, but before he could say anything to her, Eleanor was whisked away by the power couple of Beacon Hills.

"So, Eleanor, why didn't you want the loser to see you?" Jackson questioned smugly, rolling his eyes at her as she shrugged absentmindedly.

"No reason, don't worry about it stud." And after that, there was nothing else to be said, and Jackson drove into the preserve, much to his dismay, to drop Eleanor at home.

"This is a Porsche you know, not an all terrain vehicle!" He snapped, wincing as the car jumped slightly as they approached the old house.

"Shut it J, it's not like you paid for it." Lydia defended, turning around to glance at Eleanor squished in the back seat, mouthing a 'sorry' as she shook her head.

When the car finally pulled up, Eleanor sighed in relief, clambering out of the car without hesitation, thanking them shortly before waving them off as they drove away. She couldn't wait to jump in the shower, and forget everything that had happened today.

She hesitantly made her way into the house, trying to avoid Derek and Jaden at all costs. She sped up to her room and immediately dropped her things into her bed, stripping as she made her way into the bathroom, jumping in the shower to let the hot water steam over her tense body.

The emotions that she had been letting in since she found out overflowed from her eyes and mixed with the stream of water flowing over her head, disguising her tears.

She merely let them fall, busying herself with the task of watching her long brunette locks of hair thoroughly, as well as the rest of her tired body. This only took around fifteen minutes, and so she hopped out of the bathroom, towel wrapped around her, only a few minutes later.

She searched through an array of big flannels, previously owned by either Jaden, Derek, Scott or Stiles. They came up gigantic on her small figure, however they were comfy to sleep in and wear. The nearest one to her was Stiles' old red and black flannel, and so she slipped it on along with her shorts and a pair of socks.

Afterwards, she spent some time blow drying her hair, until it was back to her consistent wavy locks. Her arms wrapped around herself as she walked out of her bedroom, deciding that she wanted to find comfort in both of her brothers at such a difficult time.

However, as she stepped toward Derek's room, all she could hear were the heavy breathing and light snores that left his mouth, and Jaden mirrored his unconscious actions, leaving Eleanor alone with her thoughts about what had happened today.

She didn't dare wake either of them, for she knew that what she was feeling about Laura was mutual, and that their sleep was much needed. She wished she could do the same, but her body would not let her, instead forcing her awake to remember exactly what she had found out only hours before.

It was still so raw, losing Laura. When Eleanor first met her, her older sister had tried her best to bond with both of the twins, and Eleanor took a shining towards her and over the course of perhaps a month, the Hale family felt whole, completed and not at all distanced.

Laura had been the closest thing Eleanor had to a mother figure, besides Melissa, Scott's mom. Laura was indeed family, and so of course Eleanor felt much more attached to her at that point, she felt as if Laura could fix anything for her, help her with all that she needed. That's why, when she had gone missing, Eleanor felt as if part of her were missing, that their was a void where Laura used to be.

Eleanor did not like showing this, perhaps it was because she had hoped that Laura would come back and everything would be okay again, that there was no need to worry over that feeling because it wouldn't go on forever. Eleanor never talked about her older sister after she had disappeared, her friends had noticed this, but still, she seemed so happy and cheerful to think that she was missing.

This is the first time Eleanor had ever actually talked to anybody, including her family, about Laura, and she deemed it unfair that it was in such a foul situation. The one time she voiced her concerns about her sister to her brothers, and it was because they were beginning to mourn her death.

The thoughts of all of this were a blur in Eleanor's mind, and she was only drawn away from said things when she had heard the voice of Stiles and Scott.

Why would they be here? Thinking that they wanted to check up on their best friend, Eleanor got up from her bed and down the stairs, wrapping a blanket tightly around her to keep herself warm as she opened the front door slowly, trying to make as little noise as possible.

The cold air of Beacon Hills gushed around her and she shut the door silently behind her, quivering in her footsteps at the cold and the memories that would not leave her mind. She was dismal, distressed and disdainful.

As her mind continued to haze and she stepped around the corner of the house, finding Scott and Stiles, her whole body immediately froze. It felt as though her heart had stopped beating and all the air had been knocked out of her as she stared down at her older sister, deceased, bruised and bisected. Her whole body felt like it was shutting down as she dropped the blanket that surrounded her to the floor.

"Dude, what the hell do we do now? Wait until the cops show up?" Stiles questioned Scott, staring down at the familiar, yet unrecognisable individual lying beneath them.

"I - I don't know, Stiles. Your dad said he was on his way, right? So there's no point in leaving now."

Stiles scratched the back of his head nervously. "Yeah but what if Eleanor or Jaden see us? They're going to know that we did this."

"Too late." Eleanor heard Jaden call from beside her, however she did not look up to see him or his expression, she was too busy staring at her older sister.

Both boys twisted around to find their best friends, tear stained faces and horrified eyes as they looked down at the girl whom had been unburied. The same girl who taught Eleanor how to drive, the same girl who took Jaden to his first soccer game, the same girl whom the Hale's were related to.

Stiles looked from Laura to the twins, still not fathoming who she was as he stuttered. "C'mon guys, you have to believe us now! You're brother did this, to a poor innocent-"

"Sister." Eleanor breathed, tears overflowing as she stepped forward, towards Laura as Jaden tried holding her back.

Eleanor made eye contact with both of the clueless boys, her tears becoming consistent. "That's not just some poor young girl, that's my sister."

And with those words spoken, Eleanor could no longer hold herself together and she ignored Scott and Stiles' grief stricken faces as she sobbed, collapsing against her twin as her cries became uncontrollable. In Eleanor's eyes, the stars were falling from the sky, the moon had followed and the earth was crumbling at her feet. Her whole universe had been ruined.

And as the Sheriff and his deputies rolled up at the house, and the lights were all shining on the four best friends, Eleanor just about gave up. She knew who they were coming for, she knew what Scott and Stiles had done, she knew that they were blaming Derek, she knew that he would be taken away.

She watched as the Sheriff neared the four, his empathy increasing with every step, and she instantly connected to Derek, fearing the future about to become the present.
