Things had been a little rocky lately between you and your boyfriend Alan. Ever since they had expanded and bought up another space in town, he had become neglectful towards you. Three weeks you were told as you helped load up stock into the back of Edgar's van. Three weeks of trying to help him stay sane and less stressed was met with a lack lustre response. Alan had always been a little into himself in that he wasn't used to talking about himself all that much. Now that he was brushing off your ideas for date nights or even asking Sam to help with fixing up the store, it was beginning to get to you.

As understanding as you could be, you were beginning to feel hurt. Finally, it all combusted on a Friday night. You had walked down to the boardwalk to pick up Alan from the store. There was a beach party going on, a late night barbecue and free music. It was something you had looked forward to all week since he had relented and agreed to go with you. Now, as you pat down your dress and walk inside the familiar store, the excitement buzzing from you had dropped. The bright smile you wore fell.

“Alan?” You asked.

Piles upon piles of fresh stock was lying around the place, the two you had been looking for were huddled around the register. Frowns on their faces and from the looks of it, an argument had taken place.

“Baby? What are you doing here?” Alan asked as soon as he saw you.

Adding insult to injury he had forgotten. From the looks of his attire, old ratty sweats and a shirt stained with paint you were certain he had not remembered. Shaking your head you took a deep breath before reminding him, “Do you not remember? We were supposed to go to the party on the beach tonight.”

Edgar nudged him as he rounded the counter and left not wanting to hear the outcome.

Alan had been confused until you had told him, his eyes widened ever so slightly as he cursed under his breath. From his stance you could tell he realized.

“Sorry. My head's been occupied since the move.” Alan came closer until he was inches from you, greeting you with a quick peck to the lips.

“But I reminded you throughout the week? I thought everything was fine.”

“Yeah, I know baby.” His hands took yours, squeezing as if he knew he fucked up. “I’m sorry I forgot. We can always go next time if you want?”

“Next time? What are you talking about Alan, surely Edgar would be okay with finishing up?”

“There’s a lot to get done.”

That was it. Maybe you were being irrational but right now, you just wanted to be with your boyfriend and for the umpteenth time he had blown you off. You wouldn't dare say you felt pushed to the side but inside it was building up.

“Fine.”

“Fine?” Alan confirmed, not picking up on your frustration. Oblivious as always.

You hummed out a yes and before you could let out your frustrations, you decided to just let it go. “It's okay, I guess you are pretty busy. We can always go together next time.” You said calmly, forcing a small smile on your face to hide the disappointment. A hand touched his shoulder gently and you excused yourself, letting him get back to what he was doing before.

Maybe you could find your best friend and go anyway? Why get dressed up when you weren't going anywhere? With that mind-set, you decided to have a look around and forget about the conflict.

Sam ran by, breathing heavily before pushing past the glass door and shouted for Alan. Resting his hands on his knees, he waited until his friend appeared In front of him. Luckily, he had gotten tonight of helping off, courtesy of not wanting to especially when there was a party being thrown on the beach. From what spewed out of his mouth, or rather what was picked up, Alan grew worried. From what he got, Dwayne next to his girlfriend’s name was not a good thing. After they left the vampires alone, namely the Emerson truce, things were supposed to be cool between the two groups. Well that was until Dwayne had worked his way into your life as a best friend, one that no one was going to tell you of their secret. One, because they didn't want to risk the boys going after you and two, because from what you tell him, Dwayne seemed to like you.

Then it had him thinking about earlier. “Fine, is good isn't it?” Alan asked, remembering how you had sped off after your assurance of being okay.

“Good? if you mean good was set on fire and shot into the sun.” Sam snorted.

“Really?” Sometimes he wished he was more privy to picking up on these things. Everything could get tipped on it's side and he wouldn't care, unless it was you. Right now he was getting ripped into by Sam, pointing out the reasons why you might be upset with him purely off of what Alan had reiterated.

“That's cold.” Sam finished.

It was then that Alan couldn't hold it any longer.

“Edgar's in the back room. I need to go.” Alan brushed past Sam and made it to the door before Sam had complained about switching places, thankfully it wasn't resentful just exhausted. Alan darted off, not caring who stared as he ran for the beach.

Wanting to find you faster, he hopped over the last few stairs before searching the crowd of people congregating near the littered bonfires and booze. Alan wrinkled his nose at the pungent smell of cheap beer as he looked for the colour of dress you wore. He didn't think you would come to the party by yourself, citing you felt anxious around people usually. That didn't seem to be the case as he finally caught sight of you. Hanging around by the edge of the crowd were you, his girlfriend and the blood sucker.

That wasn't the only thing he saw as he paused a few steps behind. You had leaned up on your tiptoes and kissed him. Tanned hands looked torn between holding your shoulders or pushing you off. Alan made that choice for you, angrily storming up and turning you around by your shoulder. The vampire had a look of surprise on his face as Alan checked you over.

“What the fuck was that?” Alan asked.

“You- you're not Alan.” You slurred, hands grasping onto Alan as you peeked at the dark haired vampire. Shit. You had forgotten Alan wasn't coming with you. Dwayne had been a last minute ask, but unfortunately he seemed to bring out the wild in you. Stomach was unpleasantly full and your blood ran cold when you realized, it had not been Alan you saw after you came back from the toilet.

You had just kissed your friend.

“No I'm not.” Dwayne confirmed, earning a scathing look from Alan. He said nothing more, knowing that it would make the situation worse. Not that Dwayne particularly cared about Alan but because he valued you and because he didn't want to cause trouble for you.

“You kissed a vampire. How could you?”

“I- I didn't mean to. I thought he was you and I got upset thinking about earlier.” You admitted, voice falling as you hated hearing him angry. Now it was about to get a whole lot worse and you couldn't believe what was going on. You felt better holding onto him, not at the same time you desperately wanted to rub your lips clean.

“What did you mean? We look nothing a like.” Alan retorted, not even hiding the offence his words carried. But of course you didn't know the real reason why Alan didn't particularly like your friend, other than Dwayne rubbed him the wrong way.

“I had to take my contacts out earlier, had a migraine after I left.”

Alan wanted to chew out the vampire but as he turned to see the creature, he was surprised but thankfull that he had left.

“I- I felt like you were ignoring me and I felt like shit because- because I just want time with you and-" The tears streaked down your face as you gasped out words. Your throat felt funny and Alan held you closer to him, relieved that it hadn't been his initial thought but a little mistake. Then when you let out your feelings, he began to let it seep in. Had he been neglecting your recently? Sure there were times where he had more work to do but you usually came in and helped or brought food. Then again he knew it wasn't exactly the same as staying the night or relaxing together like you two usually did when you were free. He led you to the stairs, supporting your weight as you cried and he comforted you.

Alan didn't sat it right away but he felt bad. More so, that it took this long to realize. The store they were opening alongside the current store had put him in overdrive, his tunnel vision of quickly getting things sorted took over. It was just a shame he had completely flew over your feelings without thinking or even remembering a goddamn date you were desperate for.

He sat you down, an arm around your shoulders bringing you into his chest as the other ran through your hair. Words of comfort and apologies were said over and over by the two of you until there was calm. Alan had forgiven you, telling you that you would be staying the night so he could take care of you. You had forgiven him for what he admitted and accepted the not so much as an offer but an order. It felt nice to be carried by him.

“I'm going to take care of you.” He tucked a piece of hair behind your ear and whispered, “I'm going to do better.”

“I love you.”

“I love you too.”
