❝ so he's a flirt. a complete ego maniac ❞
•••
Once again, almost the entire game Sophie was on the bench along with Julie. Julie didn't go on the ice once and Sophie played for twenty seconds before Bombay switched her out for Fulton.
"So much for being fun," Sophie muttered to Kenny who was sitting next to her on the bench.
"Hopefully next game he'll let you and Julie play more," Kenny grabbed her pinky.
Before Sophie could respond, their team had scored one last time right before the buzzer ending the game went off. Sophie and Kenny jumped up from the bench, cheering for their team. Dean made his way over to the pair of best friends, smiling at the girl. Sophie jumped into Dean's arms as he spun her around. She kissed the top of his head quickly before Fulton pulled her into a hug.
"Kenny did she just?" Dean looked over at the other boy.
"Yes she did," Kenny smiled.
Dean's cheeks dusted a light pink for a moment before he shook it off. It was just an in the moment thing for her probably. The team made their way back to the locker room, wanting to get out of their sweaty uniforms. Well everyone but Julie and Sophie was majorly sweaty.
While some of the team hit the showers, Julie and Sophie went straight to their locker to change. Sophie didn't have enough time on the ice to even begin to break a sweat. She pulled her jersey and pads off as she hummed a song she heard a band on Sunset Boulevard playing.
After pulling her shirt back over her sports bra, Sophie tugged her jean skirt that she had in her backpack over her spandex. She didn't feel like putting actual jeans back on right now.

"Hey want to check out LA for a bit together?" Sophie closed her locker to see Adam standing next to her.
"Hell yeah! I really need to get my mind off of not playing today," Sophie joked as she threw her bag over her shoulder.
Adam laughed and told her she could some his play time next game as the two walked out of the locker room together. As they walked out of the building Adam held her bag for her as she slipped on her cardigan over her shirt. She thanked him as she took her bag back and swung it over her shoulder.
"So when do you and Julie begin working with Dominic?" Adam asked as they walked down the sidewalk, kicking any rocks they saw.
"Let's see. We're playing Iceland in two days, so tomorrow I think. And then the day after our Iceland game we'll finish up anything that we didn't get down tomorrow," Sophie explained as she tugged on the sleeves of her cardigan.
Adam smiled and told her it sounded like fun. They agreed on going into a cafe they saw across the street to grab some lunch. As they walked in they went up to the cash register to order. Seen as Adam had paid for Sophie's breakfast this morning she insisted that she pay for his lunch. Adam rolled his eyes but agreed nonetheless.
"Okay so um, I don't deal with feelings well," Sophie started out as she put her head in her hands, sighing. "Holy shit this is hard to say. I really like Dean and I don't know what to do. It's so weird to say that out loud and like I have a feeling that our feelings are mutual but also at the same time I don't want to ruin anything. Please make me shut up Adam."

Adam smiled at her as she turned a bright shade of red. Sophie let her head fall against the table for dramatic affect as she softly groaned. Adam spotted one of the workers bringing their food over and told Sophie to sit up. The person sat their food, the two teens thanking them.
"Soph, Dean is so into you it's almost sickening. He looked like he was going to rip Coach's head off today when he pulled you off the ice. I want someone to look at me the way Dean looks at you," Adam told her as he mixed his soup around a bit.
Sophie jokingly rolled her eyes as she shoved her forkful of salad into her mouth. The two had decided on sharing a club sandwich while Sophie got a salad and Adam got a soup. The two continued to eat while every once in a while Adam threw out a teasing remark to Sophie.
Once they finished their lunch, the two decided to head back to their dorms so they could relax a bit more. On their way back Adam and Sophie stopped at a little store to pick up some snacks and some drinks for their rooms. Sophie made sure to grab Kenny, Fulton, and Dean's favorite type of snacks before walking with Adam to the cash register to pay.
"Alright someone open up! We're about to drop everything," Sophie yelled as she used her forehead to knock on her brother's door.
"Soph stop using your face to knock on the door!" Adam scolded as he struggled to hold his bags.
Dean opened the with a look of confusion on his face before seeing the two with their full. He quickly grabbed most of the bags from Sophie and set them on the table in the room. Sophie grabbed a few from Adam as the two also walked into the room.
"So this is what you were doing," Dean chuckled as he looked into the bags that the two had brought into the room.
"Had to make sure everyone is taken care of," Sophie joked as she jumped onto Dean's bed.

Beast
A threat to the galaxy has come from another, and the Union of intelligent life will go to any length to stop it. Military Quarantine has held for hundreds of thousands of cycles. Traders, merchants, colonists, and Pirates live risky lives along the fringes as the politics from the inner systems fail to see the larger threats beyond their borders. A lone human finds himself far from home with no memories to how he arrived. A failing Trade vessel plays on a desperate gamble, while a malicious parasite searches for a suitable host. ............................................. Author's note: Beast is a story that I wrote a long, long time ago. Some of you might have read it then, back when it was posted on reddit over at r/HFY. It was my first webfiction and made in the spirit of that subreddit's "genre" of humanity being awesome. But, it is also a story that has bothered me a little bit. Just like most new writers tend to do, I made mistakes and errors that feel painful to reread. A Space Opera will be a Space Opera, but I had prose that makes present-me cringe. Still, at the same time, the story is still very much a tale I've never given up on. It was my first adventure into fiction: Beast was a crazy adventure with bodysnatching aliens, galactic war, threats from across the universe... Posting this story here is a way to try and redeem myself a bit. I won't call it a complete rewrite, because it's not, but I have wanted to go through and correct some of the major issues Beast has for a long time and put it somewhere more accessible to read (instead of as posts/comments on reddit) and I figure that now is as good a time as any. Additional corrections you might notice are welcome.

Leave Bad Enough Alone
Something has been amiss in the city’s theaters as of late. The local bards have long done a respectable job of keeping the audiences entertained, weaving high concepts with skillful performances. But lately, a new set of bards, and their illusionist cohorts, have captured the crowd’s attention. Compared to the theater’s usual fare, their work is hackneyed and poorly plotted, with unskilled acting, bad special effects, and unsatisfying resolutions. Worst of all, the audiences like their work more, and these upstarts are far more profitable than the city’s decent bards! Clearly, there must be some dark secret behind the success of these newcomers, and it’s up to the city’s true artists to find out what it is and expose the conspiracy! Or maybe the city’s bards have just become too hopelessly pretentious and derivative. It’s hard to tell. But investigate it they must! Failure is not an option! Victory, or...well, they’ll have to get day jobs or something. Original cover image generated by NightCafé.Master story list here.

An Average American in A High-school Academy Anime
An American versed in narrative tropes and more than mildly acquainted with anime wakes up in a completely different bed than the one he went to bed in. Now he has to scramble to understand where he is, what's going on, and hope to God he isn't in a relationship drama. I don't expect this to be good or well-received, but I have plenty of time this quarantine, so I'll try to get a chapter of 4000-10000 words out every one or two weeks. (haha) Please let me know how it can be improved. I'm an avid reader of fiction, but I've never really fallen down a rabbit hole so hard that I can name all tropes and settings and such by heart. I'm not sure if this will be effective satire, so I preemptively apologize. Inspired by: "My Life is Not a Manga, or maybe..." by EO Tenkey and "The Simulacrum" by Eganthale. Check them out if you want probably better stories than this one.
