《Unexpected》[21] - milkshakes

It had been almost a week since Maxwell's and Willow's date at the sunflower field. They had been texting whenever they get the chance. But they both understood that they were both busy, and their worlds did not revolve around each other.

Everett on the other hand, was miserable. His friends had been trying to cheer him up, but nothing seemed to be working. However, they were quite surprised to find out Willow had moved on, but part of them knew that she wasn't gonna wait around for Everett to come around and realize his mistake. The boys were curious as to who Willow was involved with, but they didn't want to upset their friend, and they couldn't just go up to Willow and ask.

Marissa had been... more of a bitch than usual. She was snapping at everyone — not that she hadn't before — but she was more cranky and annoying. People avoided her like a ticking bomb that was about to explode any minute. The whole school found out about what she did. To be fair, they already saw Marissa as someone who would stoop that low if things don't go her way. Originally, she was gonna try to play victim — and play victim she did. She tried to make Everett seem as if he cheated on her with Willow. She even went as far as to making a whole scene in the cafeteria and sobbing in front of everyone to make her story believable. Luckily, someone had overheard in the halls, and recorded everything.

Some people were relieved that Marissa finally got exposed. A lot of people started to give Willow pity looks, but she never looked their way. She didn't want nor need their pity — she had enough of those already — not that she wanted them in the first place. Even Everett's group of friends were relieved. Deep down they knew Willow wasn't in the wrong. But they felt disappointed and disgusted with themselves that they weren't there for her. Not only did she lose Everett, but she lost her friends as well.

One thing that did confuse them, however, was how Willow never tried to explain herself. Most people would beg for forgiveness and a chance to explain. But Willow just went on with her life — letting people believe she cheated on Everett.

It was currently lunchtime and Willow was sitting with Isaac and Violet. They were just conversing about their lives and such, when Marissa started throwing a fit once again.

This had been going on since Monday — four days. Marissa was standing on a table and stomping and crying, trying to play victim as always. It was quite embarrassing to be honest. But everyone gave her no mind, and continued their conversations with their friends.

"Why won't anyone listen to me?!" Marissa shrieked as she stomped her foot down and crossed her arms with tears streaming down her face.

Hearing the girl's high-pitched voice echoing through the cafeteria made everyone cringe and cover their ears.

The second hand embarrassment everyone got for her was through the roof. It was sad that a high schooler, who is about to go to college next year, was still acting like a child when things don't go their way. Willow minded her business as always, she didn't really care or think too much about it. But deep down, she wanted Marissa to get better. After all, many people who act like Marissa probably have problems at home and tend to act out in school. Even though the popular girl was never nice to Willow, she still hoped Marissa the best because no matter how fucked up someone is, they still deserve a chance to redeem themselves. Besides, karma will most likely come back to bite Marissa in the ass one day. But Willow did hope that the girl will grow out of this "phase" and become mature some day.

Obviously Marissa being Marissa, she did try to approach Willow, blame it all on her, and call her rude names, but every time she tried, Dylan and Mason would always stop her. They were always watching over Willow to make sure she was okay. So when they see Marissa try to come up to her, they always step in front of her and tell her off. And like the immature person she is, she would stomp away as she muttered a series of curse words under her breath.

The cafeteria was full of whispers that week. Everett and Marissa were the latest gossip of the school. Many people were debating about Willow — many people sided with her, and they knew she wouldn't do something like that to Everett.

"Pay up! I told you she was innocent. She wouldn't do that!" One boy exclaimed as he put the palm of his hand out to his friend, indicating that he wants his money. It wasn't unusual that some people made bets when it came to the whole situation. The people who sided with Willow also benefited from this by winning bets they had going on.

Of course, there will always be people who don't like you. It doesn't matter if you mind your business or don't care — there will always be someone who is bothered.

Soon after, the gossip got boring and everyone moved on with their lives. It was pretty sad that many high schoolers were highly invested in other people's business, but hey, that's high school for you.

"You okay Will?" Violet asked her best friend as she popped fries in her mouth.

They were currently eating at a diner that was nearby their school. Willow had ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries and a chocolate milkshake while Violet opted for chicken tenders with a vanilla milkshake — stealing Willow's fries.

"Yeah, why? Is something wrong?" Willow asked, her face expressed with worry.

"No.. you know, with the whole situation and all, I forgot to ask how you're doing with all of it. How are you?"

"I'm okay V. Just overwhelmed. You know, I don't really like being the center of attention... but I'm doing alright. Just relieved I guess? I mean I don't care what people think of me, but that doesn't mean it doesn't worry me sometimes." Willow said as she took a bite of her burger.

"You sure? You don't have to lie to me Willow. You know I'll always be there for you."

"I know. And yes, I'm sure. Besides I have Max." Willow said as a big smile broke from her face. "Oh, I never got to tell you about our date last week."

"He picked me up from school, and we got Wendy's. After that, he took me to this sunflower field. We ate and talked until the sun went down. I know he always puts a front, but he treats me well and makes me happy V. I feel like I've known him for my whole life. It's like... He was everything I could've wanted from someone." Willow said happily as she sipped her milkshake.

"I'm happy for you Will." Violet said as she grinned, happy for her best friend.

If only Willow knew what she was getting herself into by getting involved with Maxwell.
