《Unexpected》[19] - sick

"Hey Willow, you alright?" Her best friend said as Willow got in the car. It was Monday which meant they had school.

The date was great, Willow had an amazing time, but she somehow got sick.

Usually when she got sick, it was bearable and she was able to get on with her day, but today, she was exhausted and cold. Her eyes were bloodshot red, her eye bags were darker than usual, she had a killer headache, and had trouble getting ready. Not to mention that she couldn't sleep because she was freezing her ass off.

"Yeah, just tired. Didn't get much sleep last night." The tired girl said while shivering, clutching her hoodie closer to her.

"You should stay home. You don't have to go to school." Violet tried to reason with her.

"It's not like I'm gonna do anything at home." She reasoned as she put her head against the window.

The girl sighed and started the drive to school.

"How was the date?" She said trying to change the topic.

"It was great. He took me to this waterfall in the woods. He always made sure I was comfortable and okay. We swam for hours and then he kissed me..." Willow smiled as she recalled what happened that night. "He apologized for being rude and you know, everything he did... He confessed how he likes me and wants to make it up to me..."

Violet smiled, she noticed how happy her best friend was. She hadn't seen her talk like that with a huge smile on her face since you know.

"I know you said to be careful which I plan on doing, but I feel like I can trust him. He makes me feel safe you know? It feels like I've known him forever when I've only met him a few times." Willow blushed as her smile got wider.

"I'm happy for you Willow." She said with a smile. Everything her best friend said, she knew the feeling. It was how she felt with Isaac — with him being the school quarterback and all, she thought he would fit into those stereotypes, so when he asked her out, she was skeptical. Obviously she gave in and he treated her like how she should be treated. He always made sure she felt safe and kept asking if she was comfortable. All in all, he made her feel safe.

"I think I really like him V. But what if he hurts me? What if he breaks my heart?" Willow was starting to have doubts. Maybe it was because she was hurt before or because Maxwell seemed too good to be true. Yes he did have rumors about him and a dangerous persona, but he was different with her.

"Don't think about the 'what if's', if you dwell too much on what could be, you'll miss out on all of the great opportunities in front of you. Go with your gut. You said you trust him, so go with that. If he hurts you, I'm sure Oliver would beat him up so bad, he would have to walk with a limp." Violet reassured.

Before they knew it, they were already at school.

"C'mon, let's go. Are you sure you're gonna be okay? You look exhausted Willow." Violet said with concern, touching her face to see if she was okay.

"You're burning up Will." Violet said with worry.

"I promise I'm okay. I took medicine after breakfast. I'll try to sleep during lunch or something. If anything happens, I'll text you." Willow said, attempting to reassure her best friend.

Knowing her best friend is stubborn, she decided to not get so worked up on the matter. "Okay, but call me if you don't feel well." Violet said sternly.

"I promise. Now let's go." The sick girl said, linking her arms with her best friend.

Tick Tock

Tick Tock

Willow stared at the clock on the wall as the second hand passed, trying to pass time.

It was currently second period and this day could not get any slower. Not to mention the headache that Willow had and to top that all off, she was sick and exhausted.

The girl mentally cursed herself for only bringing a hoodie. Although it was sunny outside, whenever she got sick, she would literally freeze.

The teacher was typing away on her keyboard and this did not help her headache at all. Deciding to put her head down, she immediately regretted not staying home today. She'd rather much be in bed trying to sleep rather than be at school.

However, before she could even close her eyes, she had received two text messages — one from Violet and one from Maxwell.

How are you feeling? Do you need to go home?

She knew her best friend was worried about her and only wanted her to get better, so she didn't mind her nagging and telling her to text her if she needed anything.

I'm okay and no. I promise to text you if i need anything.

Although Maxwell was quite busy, he still made time to text her. She understood that he was busy so whenever he sends her a text, her heart flutters because for once in her life, someone actually makes an effort. As the saying goes, "If he wanted to, he would". She already knew he had a life and was well aware that he had work and other businesses to attend to.

Hey baby, are you feeling okay? Do you need me to bring you a jacket? Medicine?

Willow and Maxwell had been texting non stop since their little date. She wasn't planning on telling Maxwell that she was sick, but on Sunday, he wanted to FaceTime her, so of course, that's how he found out. However, when he found out she was sick, he immediately went to her house, cancelling all of his plans and made her chicken noodle soup. He even stayed with her until Oliver came home — of course, he had asked Oliver before going to their house, not wanting to face the older brother's wrath. It took Oliver some convincing, but he reluctantly agreed in the end. Plus Oliver was worried about his sister, but he had a date with his girlfriend. He was aware that she was sick, but she assured him that she would be okay and made him go, even when he told her that he was willing to cancel because he knew Diane would understand.

The whole day consisted of Maxwell taking care of Willow, from feeding her to making sure she took her medicine and drinking a lot of water. The whole time, Maxwell was apologizing to Willow. He felt guilty because he's the one who took her out to the lake, to which she ended up getting sick. However, Willow kept telling him that it was okay.

Hi, I'm okay, just tired. I don't need anything.

Are you sure? I'm sorry. It's my fault you got sick, I should've taken you somewhere else.

Yes I'm sure and it's not your fault, I promise. I had fun. Don't worry about me, I'm okay.

Promise?

I promise.

Obviously it was odd to see Maxwell so soft and whipped, as Romeo had stated many times teasingly. But he was willing to do whatever and act however as long as it meant that Willow was happy. He has never felt like that before and besides, Willow's happiness was his top priority. He was willing to do whatever it takes to make up for all the times he was rude to her.
