《Mondays (Jensoo Convert)》"You were never mine to keep anyway."

Jisoo collected her flustered self. She wasn't used to Jennie being so forward. It was a change. A change she'll most likely grow to like. She pulled her varsity jacket tighter to her body and took a deep breath in front of the bathroom mirror. Once she was satisfied and calmed, she walked out of the bathroom to head back to the lunch hall. On her way, she caught a glimpse of her 'ex', more or less she would call it, scurrying along the hallways on her way to the library.
"Nayeon!" The volleyball player shouted. Nayeon slowed down and whipped her head towards Jisoo. A smile formed on her lips as she watched the brown eyes girl saunter her way to her.
"Hey." Nayeon breathed. "What's up, nerd?"
A throaty chuckle escaped Jisoo's lips. "Shouldn't I be calling you a nerd? Let me guess. You're on your way to the library."
"Good observation, Kim. It's not like it's behind me or anything..." Nayeon teased as she pointed to the glass doors behind her with a sign 'Library' on top.
"Alright, alright. You made your point." Jisoo let Nayeon seize the moment. She looke at her and suddenly felt guilty. She brought a hand back and rubbed the back of her neck nervously. "Haven't seen you in a while... you know since..."
"I've been busy." Nayeon decided to step in. "Everything is kind off getting hectic in the last month and a half of our school year with finals and all."
"Yeah... It's a pain in the ass." The dark haired girl hoaxed.
"Shut up, Chu. We all know you've been on top of everything. Grades, sports, and even a Prom date." No hint of malice was laced in Nayeon's tone. The soccer player hit Jisoo's arm playfully. "You finally got the girl." A sad smile was drawn on her face; a smile that the other girl couldn't ignore.
"I'm lucky." Jisoo stated with a small sigh. "I'm lucky to have a friend like you. Jennie told me what you did."
"Oh, Jisoo it was nothing." Nayeon tried to dismiss.
"No. It's not just nothing. It's everything." The pale girl countered. "You put your own feelings aside to help out Jennie to ask me. You knew I liked her and you knew that if she asked me that I would say-"
"Be happy." Nayeon finished. "I wanted to ask you, Jisoo. So bad. Like so so bad. And trust me seeing Jennie prompose to you in front of everyone as she claimed you like that, hurt like a bitch. But it was all worth it. I saw you glow."
"You know I would have said yes to you if you did ask, right?" Jisoo remarked.
"I know. You want to know why I know that? Because you're a good person, Jisoo." Nayeon smiled. "However, I'm a consolation prize compared to Jennie."
"Her promposal was pretty hard to beat." The brown-eyed girl joked.
"It was." Nayeon agreed. She looked into Jisoo's eyes as she said, "You really love her don't you?"
Jisoo nodded.
"That's good because she really loves you too." The hazel eyed girl spoke softly.
Nayeon took a step towards Jisoo and wrapped her arms around the pale girl. Jisoo didn't hesitate to do the same, resting her chin on Nayeon's shoulder.
"You're a good friend, Nayeon."
"And that's all I'll ever be... a friend."
The school bell rang, which meant the lunch period had ended. Jisoo and Nayeon split apart as the students emerged out of the lunch hall to their lockers and next classes, one of them being Jennie.

The brunette exited the cafeteria talking to Rosé. She was laughing about something the other girl had said until she saw Jisoo pulling away from Nayeon. Her smile faltered slightly and she felt a small tug in the pit of her stomach.
"Rosie, I'll catch up with you later." Jennie declared as she left the girl to march over to Jisoo and Nayeon.
"Okay..." Rosé trailed off, walking the opposite way.
Jennie tried to control her growing temper as she approached the two girls. She stealthy slid her hand down Jisoo's arm to the hand to intertwine them. She was marking her territory.
"Hey guys." She greeted with fake enthusiasm.
Jisoo looked down at their hands and arched an eyebrow. "Hey, Jendeukie..."
"How's it going, Kim?" Nayeon chuckled as she noticed the entwined hands. She couldn't help but feel a little proud for still getting Jennie to get all jealous over her and Jisoo's relationship.
"Oh, you know...lunch is all." Jennie replied lamely causing the pale girl to snort. She turned to Jisoo and stared her down.
"Right." Nayeon said awkwardly. She pulled her bag to her side and rummaged through it. "Anyway, here was the footage from yesterday. Good speech by the way. It was promising." She extended her arm with the tape for Jennie to take.
"I'll take that." Jisoo swiftly snatched the recording and slipped in her pocket.
"Jisoo!" Jennie whined, as she tried to grab it from the dark haired girl. "Hey, that's mine."
"Actually, it's ours." Jisoo proclaimed. She turned to Nayeon and grinned widely. "Thanks for doing that again. I owe you."
The other brunette snapped her head to face Nayeon and squinted her eyes. Nayeon swore she saw fire in them. "Uh no... you don't owe me anything, Jisoo. It was my pleasure. Besides, Jennie and I have an understanding." The soccer player looked at Jennie knowingly. "I'll see you guys around."
"Nayeon, wait." Jennie let go of Jisoo's hand and jumped on Nayeon as she engulfed the girl in a hug. "Thanks for helping me." She said sincerely. She let go and linked her arm with her teammate once more.
Nayeon waved goodbye before turning around and walking in the library.
"Why were you two hugging?" Jennie said abruptly to Jisoo.
"Uh, what?" The taller girl asked in confusion.
"Nevermind. How long have you been out here..."
"Like a couple of mi-"
"With Nayeon."
Jisoo furrowed her eyebrows at Jennie and pulled her arm from the brown-eyed girl. A smug smile crept on her lips. "Jendeukie, what is going on with you?"
"What? Why? What do you mean?" The brunette cleared her throat and averted her gaze from Jisoo's.
The dark haired girl cupped the girl's chin and made Jennie face her. "Look at me, will ya?" She laughed softly. "Are you... are you jealous?"
Jennie rolled her eyes. "No. Does it look like I'm jealous?"
"Uh yeah." Jisoo said bluntly.
"Well I'm not."
"Then what's with the questions?"
"I like asking questions!"
"About Nayeon?"
"About anyone!"
Jisoo huffed. "I wish you weren't so stubborn. Just admit that you're jealous."
"But I'm not." Jennie scoffed, crossing her arms in front of her chest.
"Whatever you say, Kim." Jisoo hummed before untangling the girl's arms from her body and grabbing one of Jennie's soft hands to join with hers. "C'mon. We're going to be late for class."

At the end of the day three more promposals occurred but none compared to Jennie's.
Jennie looked at Lisa with an impish grin. "So now it's only you and Rosie, Manoban."
The Thai groaned. "Tell me about it."
"Any idea if anyone is planning to ask you?" Jisoo asked.
"Nope." Lisa sighed as she ran her hand through her hair.
"Oo, how about that guy from the soccer team!" Jennie exclaimed with excitement.
"Bobby?" Both Lisa and Jisoo said in unison. They looked at each other and busted out laughing. The brunette tilted her head at her teammates, confusion evident on her face.
"Jendeukie, he's-" Jisoo started.
"Not interested in me." The tall girl gave Jisoo a pointed look. "I don't think he's going to be asking me anytime soon."
"Why not?" Jennie retorted completely missing the small hints dropped by the two girls.
"He's uh... asking someone else." Lisa tried to explain.
"Oh, that's too bad." The brunette patted her teammate on the back. "Maybe if you don't go with anyone, you and Rosie can just go together as friends."
Jisoo coughed hysterically while Lisa knitted her eyebrows. The Thai threw the dark-haired girl a puzzled look before answering Jennie. "Rosie and I aren't exactly on good terms right now..."
"You guys were literally just singing together last night!" Jennie flailed her hands up. "What the hell happened?"
"That was all an act." Lisa replied as she casually shrugged her shoulders. "We both knew how important last night was for you and decided to ignore our problems for one night."
"What problems?" Jennie pressed.
"Jendeukie, I don't think you should get into this." Jisoo tugged Jennie by her arm.
"No." Jennie growled at the pale girl. "As her best friend, I deserve to know." She turned to Lisa. "We don't hide anything from each other, Manoban. What's going on?"
"I slapped Rosé in the face." Lisa confessed.
"W-what?" Jennie said in disbelief. "Why would you do that?"
"She said some things and I kinda got mad at her. I snapped and next thing I knew my hand made contact with her face."
"When did this happen?"
"A few days ago..."
"And you're just telling me now."
"I told you I didn't want to stress you out."
"What could she have possibly say that made you slap her across the face?"
"She uh- she..." Lisa choked. She felt a tear in brim of her eyes and tried to hold it in.
Jisoo saw the taller girl struggle at her next words so she decided to put an end to it. She wrapped her arms around Jennie and placed her mouth next to the brunette's ear. "Hey, that's enough." She breathed before signaling Lisa to go.
The Thai wiped her eyes and rushed out of the pair's sight. Jennie tried to go after her but Jisoo held her tighter.
"Let go!" Jennie hissed as she watched her best friend run off to her car. "Jisoo! I need to talk to Lisa."
"She's not ready to talk yet, babe." Jisoo remarked in a hush tone as the pet name slipping off her mouth. "Give her time."
"She needs me! Let me go!" Jennie attempted to squirm out of Jisoo's grip but she couldn't. She was getting frustrated and angry. "Fuck! JISOO! UGH... LET GO."
"Calm down." The dark haired girl eased.
"DON'T FUCKING TELL ME TO CALM DOWN!" Jennie snapped causing people to turn their heads.
"Jendeukie, listen to my voice." Jisoo lulled. "Cage the tiger. Tame the anger..."
"Fuck you!" Jennie barked making the taller girl cringed.
"Jennie please." She begged. Jennie shut her eyes and tried to even her breathing. She knew she was out of line once she heard Jisoo's voice so vulnerable. She repeated those words in her head and stopped fighting with her.
When Jisoo felt the brown-eyed girl relax she let out a sigh of relief. She loosened up her hold on Jennie and rested her chin on the girl's shoulder. "Thank you." She whispered.
"Can you take me home?" Jennie mumbled softly.
"Yes, of course."
-
Jennie paced back and forth in her room while Jisoo hunched over the desk attempting to do her homework. It's been hours since the brunette's outburst in school. Hours she's been thinking about what happened with Lisa.
"I- I just don't get it." She grumbled. Jisoo put her pencil down and spun her chair to face the brown-eyed girl. "It's not like Lisa to keep secrets from me. She tells me everything but now... today she... it was like she was scared to tell me."
"Jendeukie..." Jisoo croaked. She stood up from the chair and walked over to Jennie. She took the girl's arm and pulled her down to the bed. "Hey, it's okay. She just wasn't ready."
"Ready for what, Chu?" Jennie spoke up. She looked up at her teammate and met her brown pools.
Jisoo let out a big breath out and bit her bottom lip. She knew either Rosé or Lisa should tell their secret relationship to Jennie but seeing the girl so hurt caused her pain. She released her lip and pursed it together.
"I'm going to tell you something but promise me, Jennie, promise that you won't freak out." The brown-eyed girl declared.
"Promise." She nodded.
"I saw Rosé and Lisa kissing a few weeks ago... it was the day I carried you off away from your locker." Jisoo shared. "Today, I confronted Rosé and she told me everything. Her and Lisa had been in this 'relationship' if you can even call it that... they're fuck buddies, Jendeukie." The other girl lifted an eyebrow. "For two years and along the way they've developed feelings for each other."
"So your telling me that our Rosie and our Lisa have been hooking up the past two years?"
"Yup."
"Those sneaky bitches."
The dark haired girl chuckled lightly.
"And now they like each other?"
"Well... yes."
Jennie rubbed her temples trying to wrap around the idea of her teammates, no best friends hooking up behind the scenes. She gaped at Jisoo. "But that doesn't explain why they're pissed at each other... is the fight just a façade?"
"No." Jisoo shook her head. "Lisa did slap Rosie."
"Why?"
"You see you're not the only one who have a friend on their shoulder." The pale girl teased. "Rosé saw Lisa talking to Bobby and got jealous. She said some nasty things to her and Lisa just lost it."
"I have to call Lisa." Jennie tried to stand up to get her phone but Jisoo was quick to pull her back down.
"You promised." Jisoo scolded.
"I just need to talk to her. I won't say a thing about this."
"Okay fine."
The brunette flashed a small smile at Jisoo before leaning in to place a chaste kiss on the girl's cheek. "Thanks for trusting me." She pulled out her phone and dialed Lisa's number.
"Hey, Lisa. You doing okay?" Jisoo heard Jennie say before she disappeared in the hallway. She grabbed a pillow and buried her face in it. Rosé was going to kill her for telling Jennie but she was too head over the heels for the brunette not to say anything.
-
Lisa was sprawled on Jennie's bed. She held an old yearbook from freshman year above her as she flipped through the pages.
"Lili! Can you please pay attention?" Jennie cried out from below. She was on the floor with her textbook lying in front of her.
"I am." Lisa replied while flipping to the next page. She snorted when she saw Jisoo's face on the Science Club wearing big, bulky safety goggles. "Nini, look at this. Jisoo is such a nerd in this photo."
Jennie scrambled to her feet and scanned the yearbook for Jisoo's face. She found the girl in the middle with a cheesy grin and giggled. "Oh my god! That's so funny!" She took out her phone form her back pocket and snapped a shot of the girl's face.
"But let me tell you, puberty did Jisoo good." The Thai pointed out. "Look at her now, three years later and she's the hottest chick in the school."
"I wouldn't say THE... I think Irene got her beat." Jennie said smoothly.
Lisa craned her head up to meet her best friend's eyes and arched an eyebrow. "Really. Nini, Irene is not here. You don't have to do that thing where you try to defend her name or something. Just admit that Jisoo is hot." A sly smile crept on her lips. "Hotter than Irene for sure."
"Yeah okay." Jennie scoffed. She climbed up next to Lisa and nuzzled closer to her. "Who do you see yourself going to Prom with?"
Lisa flipped the page and shrugged. "I dunno. Probably Rosie."
The brunette gave the taller girl a weird look. "What?"
"You know 'cus I don't see any guys worthy enough to take ME to Prom. They all fuckboys." Lisa answered casually. She glanced at Jennie and asked, "how about you? Do you see yourself with Irene on Prom day?"
"In all honesty, no." Jennie chuckled in melancholy. "Irene and I aren't the same as we use to be... She's more distant these days and ummm..." She debated on telling Lisa about what she had seen Irene do and decided against it. "Yeah. She's been distant."
The Thai closed the book and focused all her attention to the smaller girl cuddled up to her. "You think she's cheating?"
"Maybe."
"Then you should probably call it quits, Nini."
"But I love her and she's all I know..."
"You know Jisoo." Lisa retorted with a smirk earning a playfully slap in her arm.
"Why do you and everyone push Jisoo and I together?" Jennie glared at her teammate. "We are complete opposites."
"I've never seen two people more perfect for each other than you two." The tall girl responded honestly. "You'll see."
"How about you, huh? Ms. Cupid with the arrows. Any love memories to share?" Jennie teased, poking Lisa on her sides. The other girl squealed and pushed her back a lightly.
"Nini stop!" She whined.
"Tell me, you probably have some juicy secret."
"Okay fine." Lisa breathed in and out. "Rosie and I kissed." She waited for Jennie's reaction before aborting the confession.
The brunette gaped and stared at Lisa with wide eyes. "Are y-you serious?"
"Nah, chick!" The middle erupted in laughter. "I'm kidding." She wasn't.
Jennie shook her head and let out a choppy chuckle. "Um... I thought for a second you were serious there."
"What if I was?" Lisa asked curiously. "But I'm not! But what if I was...serious."
"Then I'd start wearing a captain's hat to sail my ship!" Jennie exclaimed with a warm smile.
"Rosé and I are your ship?"
"I've never seen two people more perfect for each other than you two." The brunette mocked. Lisa rolled her eyes and opened the yearbook once again. Jennie scooted closer and focused on fetus Jisoo. "You're right. Jisoo did get hot."
"Hotter than Irene, correct?"
"I wouldn't oppose."
