《The Midnight Man》Chapter 17 - The Plan

Sam sat with his back leaned against the door for a while as he thought up a plan. Sam took a deep breath and stood up. He was ready. Sam opened the door and was hit with the strong smell of smoke. Sam gasped and sprinted through the darkness into the kitchen. He turned the oven off and opened the door as several clouds of smoke filled the air. Sam examined the lump of charcoal in the oven and sighed.
"Nice cake," A sarcastic voice chuckled.
Sam turned around, but no one was there. He shook his head. He couldn't let The Midnight Man distract him again. 'Stay focused,' he thought to himself. Sam walked to the garage and started rummaging through boxes full of old junk.
"Yes!" Sam exclaimed as he held up a medium-sized cardboard box. Sam rushed upstairs in the darkness. When he got into his bedroom he noticed that he had left his candle downstairs! Sam reached into the box and took a candle out.
SLAM!
Sam turned around to see his door closed.
Click!
The door is locked! Sam pounded on the door.
"MIDNIGHT MAN!" He screamed. Sam heard maniacal laughter but couldn't tell what direction it was coming from. Sam took a deep breath and rushed back to the box on his bed. The Midnight Man really wanted Sam to do something wrong again! Sam lit five white candles and placed them on the floor in a pentagon. He reached into the box again and pulled out some black crystals, sage, white roses and salt. One by one Sam placed the crystals and roses around his room, and then lit the sage. He sprinkled a circle of salt around the candles. Sam put the salt down and walked towards the salt circle. He was safe once he was in there.

Suddenly Sam's door flung open and The Midnight Man stepped inside. The Midnight Man pulled Sam back and pinned him to the wall.
"LET GO OF ME!" Sam screamed.
"What's this?" The Midnight Man asked, pointing at the candles, salt, roses, sage and crystals.
"It's none of your business! Now let me go!" Sam yelled, trying to get free.
"Looks demonic"
"Yeah, it's supposed to."
"Hm. You weren't trying to get rid of me, were you?" The Midnight Man asked. Sam had no response. "Oh, Sam! You cant get rid of me! I'm The Midnight Man! The Midnight Man never leaves!"
"Oh, yeah?" Sam stalled. The Midnight Man noticed the box on Sam's bed.
"What's this?"
"Nothing! Don't look in it!" Sam said
"Why?"
"You wouldn't understand."
"YES, I WOULD!"
"No, you wouldn't."
"I'll prove you wrong!" Said The Midnight Man. He had one weakness, he was extremely curious!
"You can't go over there anyway. If you do, you'll have to put me down," Sam stated calmly.
"I'll just take you with me!" Said The Midnight Man, not realising that to get there he would need to pass over the salt circle.
"Okay then, I don't think you'd understand what's in the box though."
"YES, I WILL!" The Midnight Man screamed punching Sam hard in the stomach.
Sam cried in pain as The Midnight Man walked towards the box, holding Sam by the neck.
"AAA!" The Midnight Man screamed as he dropped Sam and fell to the ground in pain, clutching his leg. Salt was like acid, and it burned The Midnight Man like fire! Sam landed safely inside the salt circle. The Midnight Man got to his feet.
"YOU WILL PAY FOR THIS!" The Midnight Man screamed. "It's only 1:30, anyway. I will torture you from out here until eventually, you'll have to come out! You'll never last two hours in there!"
"Yes, I can! You just wait and see!"
"Fine. I will. And you'll see everything a demon like me can do!" The Midnight Man started laughing. Could Sam wait two hours? He could barely survive one!
