《The Midnight Man》Chapter 16 - Back Home

After a few boring months of healing in the hospital, Sam was discharged. The Midnight Man seemed to disappear like ashes in the wind after Sam attacked him. Sam had been going to therapy once a week, and he felt so much better. His legs and arms had no scratches and the burns on his body were looking better; you could hardly notice them now! Sam had been living in his childhood home with his kind and loving parents. He still missed Colby, Jake and Katrina, but therapy helped him realise that they are all still in his heart.
Sam's parents had recently left for a vacation in Hawaii so Sam was left home alone. He was eating his dinner at the kitchen table when out of the corner of his eye he saw a light flicker. It was the living room light. Sam walked into the living room and turned the light off, so it would stop flickering and it worked. Sam ignored it and walked back to the kitchen.
'It's just a faulty lightbulb, nothing more.' He thought to himself. Sam continued to eat his chicken soup when he suddenly heard a static noise coming from the living room. Sam got up and walked to investigate the noise. The TV had turned on, but it was just static. Sam reached for the remote and as soon as he had it in his hand, the TV turned off. He didn't even press the button!
'What is going on tonight?' He thought to himself, putting the remote down. He walked back to the kitchen table and sat down. Nothing happened for a while until Sam started washing the dishes. He was shaking and accidentally cut himself with a sharp knife.
"Ouch!" Sam cried loudly as blood dripped from the cut. There were no bandages, so Sam decided to wrap his finger in paper until he could find something else to use. Sam walked upstairs to his room and sat on his bed as he scrolled through his phone. After about 10 minutes, the power went out.

"That's strange," Sam thought aloud as he lit a small purple candle for light. His finger had stopped bleeding, and the paper was getting annoying, so he took it off and put the paper on his bed. Sam walked down the hallway and the stairs. He wanted a torch. Sam walked into the living room and started looking through draws, trying to find a good torch to use. Suddenly the piano started playing. Sam turned around quickly and saw the keys moving by themselves! He screamed and sprinted upstairs,
"WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME?" He screamed. The Midnight Man had tricked Sam. He had waited for so long. He had planned it out perfectly!
Sam slammed the door and immediately saw the paper with his blood. He looked down at the small lavender-scented candle in his hand. With his back pressed firmly against the hard wooden door, Sam got his phone out. 12.00 exactly. Everything clicked and Sam burst into tears, The Midnight Man had tricked him into doing the ritual again. The memories replayed over and over again in Sam's head, it was like watching a movie on loop.
Sam took a deep breath. He had to do this. It was just him, but this time he wouldn't let The Midnight Man win. Sam realised that he had lost last time because he tried using brute force. The Midnight Man was far too strong, so Sam had to outsmart him this time. He had no other choice.
"I'm doing this for you Colby, Kat and Jake. I'm doing this for you." He said.
