"-so it must equal 84" i finished, staring at the math textbook in front of me.
"good girl" mr gordon whispered in my ear, "i'm beginning to think that you don't need these lessons after all. maybe you're just here because you really do want me"
i had to try to control the vomit that was rising in my throat after hearing his words.
"nope" i replied, "i'm here because i need the extra help"
but i shouldn't have said that.
i received a hard slap across the face.
"don't you dare speak to me like that" he spat at me.
i could feel anger pumping through my veins and tears pricking my eyes.
"say you're sorry" he said.
i kept quiet.
"NOW" he growled.
"i-i'm sorry" i whimpered, feeling absolutely pathetic.
"good girl" he said, "now get out of my sight. you will receive your punishment tomorrow"
i had never ran so fast in my life, and i didn't stop until i was at the library.
"are you alright, dear?" asked janet, looking quite concerned. "you're out of breath!"
"yes" i answered, forcing a smile. "i just couldn't wait to get here"
it was a terrible excuse, but terrible excuses always worked on janet.
i took out my book and settled down onto my beanbag.
"are you sure you're alright?" asked scar boy from his armchair.
i was slightly taken aback. i was so caught up in my own thoughts that i hadn't even noticed he was there.
"y-yes" i stuttered, trying not to catch his gaze.
i was afraid that if i let him look into my eyes, he would know that i was lying.
"i'm remus, by the way. remus lupin."
even his name was beautiful.
"i'm evelyn hart" i replied.
"that's a.. that's a very p-pretty name" he stammered, whilst that shade of pink rose to his cheeks again.
"thank you" i smiled softly.
he didn't say anything else, and once again looked at his book.
but his eyes weren't actually moving across the page.
"happy reading, remus" i whispered.
"happy reading, evelyn" he replied.
that night we walked home together.
it was 11pm and pitch black, but i felt safe with him.
i felt safe with him from the moment i first laid eyes on him.

8 584Reaching for One's Desire: Kane's Ascension
After living most of his life as a worthless orphan, Michael Kane only desired for the chance to make something of himself in this world of monsters and magic. In a world where only wealth and power mattered, he was literally at the bottom of the food chain. He fucking hated it. Always having felt that he was destined for something greater than what was essentially a beggar’s life, Michael held hope that things would change with the arrival of the Day of Gaia’s Gift, which happened exactly halfway through the year. It was the day in which everyone that was fifteen years old was given access to the System and was given a ‘Class’ depending on your aptitude, two if you were exceptional and lucky. It was his hope that he was given at least one class worthy of becoming an Adventurer, which would help him start his path to a life of wealth, fame, luxury and pleasure. Being an orphan that never knew his parents and having no one that he cared for nor that cared for him, it was not surprising that these were Michael’s goals. Little does he know, that he is destined for even greater things.

8 334Dark Winter
It is always darkest before the dawn. After the divorce, Katie Fox was forced to live with her mother in New York after the judge ruled that her father, a former Army Ranger, wasn’t stable enough. They called him ‘that crazy bunker guy’ or ‘that paranoid freak.’ Whatever they called him, Christopher Fox was a Prepper. He taught those willing to listen how to survive in a catastrophe and how to prepare for the end of the world. More than that though, he was her father and she would rather spend her life in his underground bunker than another minute in that New York highrise. So, she ran away. The date is November 28th, Black Friday and hell has been unleashed on the world. A freak storm mixes with a deadly virus that turns its victims into mindless hunters of flesh. Katie will have to use everything her father taught her to survive and reach the safety of his underground bunker. Note from the author: Thanks for stopping by! The plan is to upload a chapter every Saturday or Sunday (as my schedule allows). Hope you enjoy the story!

First and foremost, I must apologize as this story is currently on an indefinite hiatus. School, my main project, and writer's block have gotten in the way. I was rather unprepared when I began posting this and kind of just did it on a whim. Thus, I shall ensure I am thoroughly prepared before posting anything else, but I plan to return to this someday to conitnue it. What better retirement plan for a scumbag than to become a demon? Whether he likes it or not, that's Berrick's only choice. Heaven thinks hell is getting a little lukewarm and Berrick is just the guy to heat things up again. Follow Berrick as he works for home and hell as one of the few Egg Guardians. Author's note: Are you looking for bad writing, terrible dialogue, short chapters, and slow releases? Then you've come to the right place! This is honestly just something I'm writing for fun and figured I'd publish while I'm working on my main project, but I always appreciate constructive criticism so I can improve. Picture obtained on google.
