Finally I made it home. I placed my keys down on the front table and noticed a white paper bag on the tabletop as well.
"Jordyn?" I asked throughout the house only one time. There was no answer.
I grabbed the bag without looking inside of it and brought it over to the kitchen. I was a little surprised when there was no food on the stove or oven. Jordyn always gets home before me and she loves to make us both some dinner, but tonight there was none.
I looked in the living room and she wasn't in there either, strange...
I set my phone down on the kitchen island countertop and pulled out the only piece of clothing that was in the bag. A baby girl's dress...
I took a seat on the stool and just held the dress. I wasn't mad that she bought it. I wasn't upset, not at all. I was happy.
It sparked joy that she was shopping for our future baby's clothes. More than sparked, there were wildfires in my heart.
As I looked at the baby dress, I was reminded of Jordyn--the love I have for Jordyn. I let out the tiniest chuckle and placed the dress gently on the counter.
I walked over to our cabinet and grabbed a mug and a packet of hot chocolate. I got some hot water in the mug and lightly poured the chocolate dust into the water. I stirred it all together with a metal spoon and added some of her favorite mini marshmallows at the very top. I placed a swirly straw in the drink and held it in my left hand as I carried the dress in my right hand.
I walked up the stairs and the door was opened just a crack. I pushed it open with my foot and I saw Jordyn sleeping soundly on her side of the bed. She looked peaceful.

But I couldn't let this drink go to waste...
So I banged my foot on the door, loud enough for her to jump up from her sleep.
"Hey, darling." I said like nothing was wrong and walked over to her. She smiled and sat up in the bed. "I made you some of your favorite hot coco." A bigger smiled plastered on he cheeks as she took the mug from me.
"Thank you." She took a sip and looked at the time on her phone. "Oh my god, I slept through dinner time, I'm so sorry."
"Don't worry about it, I can whip something up." I lightly laughed and put my hand on her arm. She eased back in the bed and placed the mug on her nightstand.
She rubbed her eyes a couple of times before I said another word.
"So," I looked down at the bed. "I found this in a bag when I got home." I pulled the dress out from behind my back.
She looked like a deer in headlights. She really had no idea what to say and I couldn't read her reaction clearly.
"Oh, I thought I'd get Vivian that to give to River." She smiled lightly and looked at her wedding ring.
"Jordyn." I made sure she looked me in the eyes. "This is a baby's dress. River's three years old, she won't fit into this and you know that." I tilted my head, wanting the truth.
"Oh no, is it really?" She grabbed the dress and a smile immediately formed on her face.
"Babe." I put my hand on her arm. "Did you buy this for our future baby?" I asked and she didn't respond with words. She looked into my eyes for a few seconds then back down to the dress.
"I--I--uh." She stuttered. "I want a baby." She admitted while looking at the dress. "I want to have a bunch of kids running around the house in the summertime. I want to make little kid snacks for them. I want to teach them things. I want to be the mother I never had."

"Jordyn--" I tried to say, but she stopped me.
"But I'm terrified. I've been terrified for years."
"About what? How come you never told me." I sat closer to her on the bed and held her hand.
"I've been scared that I'm going to get pregnant on accident and we're going to lose the baby again. I can't go through that again, I can't love our baby so much and then be told that he or she's not going to be alive at the end of nine months." A tear fell off of her cheek.
"Hey, hey, hey." I sat right next to her and leaned her head on my chest as I rubbed her back with my hand. "You don't need to be scared, we aren't going to lose this baby again."
"How do you know that?" She sniffled.
"Because we weren't ready to be parents at that time. We were so young and we didn't know what we were going to do with our lives. But look at us now--" I lifted her off of my chest and looked her in the eyes. "We have a beautiful home, we are stable, we have friends and family around us who can support us. We're ready to have a baby." I smiled as a tear fell from her cheek. I wiped it away with my my thumb.
"Do you really think so?"
"Of course I do. I know you're going to be the best mother these kids could ever ask for." I squeezed her hand.
She looked up to me and wiped a tear away off of her cheek.
"Do we just--?" She laughed.
"I'm getting that baby inside of you." I pushed her back onto the bed and began to kiss her soft lips.
She giggled as I kissed her lips over and over again. I stood up off of the bed and I flung my black belt off as it landed on the floor. I kicked my black shoes off as well as my shirt.
I hovered over her body and breathed against her neck. "Take your clothes off."
I helped her sit up as she lifted her shirt over her head. I grabbed the hem of her pants and slid them off of her body. I let out a deep breath as her body was there in front of me. It's always an honor to have her after a long, hard day at work.
She arched her back as I reached under her body to unclasp her bra. I was practically a natural at doing it. I threw it across the room and left kisses on her neck and lips.
"Ethan--"She whispered against my lips. I stood up and slipped my pants off as well with my underwear. I did the same to her, I slid her underwear down her legs as she bit her lip lightly.
"Go." She let out another sigh.
A smirked crept up on my face and I reached in my nightstand drawer.
"What are you doing?" She asked.
"Shit, are we seriously out?" I stood up and looked in the drawer with both eyes. "How are we out of condoms? Do we fuck that much?"
"Ethan." She pulled closer to her and tilted her head.
"OH! Right!" I gasped and slammed the drawer door closed. "We don't need those."
She laughed at me.
I know Jordyn's always wanted this with; to have kids. We had it, but we lost it. Now's our chance to finally get that dream of ours back.
